5:48 am
i am worried about it getting much worse. >> experts recommend reducing your dog's contact with a large number of unknown dogs. if you know that another dog is sick, make sure you keep your pet away. sick dogs should stay home and seek care. avoid communal water bowls and consulting your vet on vaccinations for your pet, so many proactive steps that pet owners can take. 5:47 right now. today is president biden's birthday. >> and scott mcgrew, for his friends and family it's all about celebrating. for his critics, it's all about those digits, his age. >> his age, 81. good morning to you. he's the oldest president of the united states ever. to be fair, he was the oldest president yesterday when he was just 80. the president's public schedule shows he has the turkey pardon today on his birthday. the turkeys are named liberty and bell. earlier this weekend the president and first lady and some turkeys who were not so lucky got together for dinner

with members of the u.s. military. new polling shows former president trump ahead of president biden in a nationwide survey. within the margin of error, but still worrisome for the biden campaign. when we show these nationwide polls, i remind all of us, that's not how we elect a president. it's not a popularity contest. if it were, hillary clinton and al gore would have been presidents. much more worrisome is this number for mr. biden. this is an approval rating for people 34 and under. many of those young people upset over the president's strong support of israel. young people telling pollsters they want the white house to be more even-handed in the conflict. now, the white house has been calling for pausing in the fight again israel and hamas terrorists to protect the palestinians that everyone is worried about. it's not as if those voters are going to turn to trump over the israel issue. trump is equally supportive of israel. i'm sure he would say the most supportive of israel.

where the two candidates disagree is ukraine. brand new picture into our newsroom of secretary of defense lloyd austin meeting with president zelenskyy in kyiv. president biden pushing congress to find more money for ukraine. you'll recall trump cut that funding off. that was the genesis of his first impeachment. it sounds as if a deal to release hostages snatched by hamas terrorists is close. senator richard blumenthal speaking on "meet the press," saying as much as he could. >> what gives you confidence that americans are likely involved? >> i have a high degree of confidence that americans will be involved. there are nine of them, and a green card holder, perhaps more. but americans' involvement will be an imperative i think for the president, rightly so. >> so clarify, blumenthal was talking about the american hostages, not necessarily american forces. of course everybody in washington and america are saying good-bye to rosalynn carter who passed away over the

weekend. i had the pleasure of meeting her at her church in plains. she was 96 when she passed away. there will be much more ahead on the "today" show. a funeral a week from wednesday. >> she will be missed. thank you. maybe it's a little too soon to make a joe montana comparison here, but the niners brock purdy just did something no niner quarterback has done in more than 30 years. the niners hosting buccaneers yesterday at levi's and everything was clicking on offense. purdy threw three touchdowns, including one long one to brandon aiyuk in the third quarter. the niners winning 27-14. purdy had a perfect quarterback rating, something last none by a 49er when joe montana did it in 1989. the niners cannot celebrate too long. they do head to seattle for a game on thanksgiving night. you can watch that right here on nbc bay area. it kicks off a little after 5:00 p.m. >> a lot of fun there. weather-wise, we're in for a

nice week. you were mentioning it's windy. >> it's still windy. we had that weather system move through over the weekend. now we're seeing high pressure coming in. when you have low pressure next to high pressure, it makes that air flow very quickly. and our hills are really getting the brunt of that this morning. so the wind advisory continues for all of these areas shaded in orange, up until 9:00. and some of those gusts still at about 20 to 30 miles per hour, maybe slightly higher. i think we are past some of the highest wind gusts. the storm system has moved off to the east. we're seeing high pressure move in and there's an area of low pressure off the coast that will continue to weaken. looking at yesterday evening, we had wind gusts at mount st. helena reaching 47 miles per hour, 40 to 50 miles per hour wind gusts, the highest at mount tam at 52 miles per hour. as the wind calms down, our temperatures will be dropping in brentwood. at 8:00 we're starting out at 51 degrees and reaching into the

lower 60s. we're headed for the mid to upper 60s all around the bay area, and then with sunshine tomorrow it's going to be beautiful. san jose reaching 73 degrees, and upper 60s across parts of the inland east bay into the north bay. as we go through the next several days, looking ahead to see what else is out there, the next storm system coming in will continue to weaken, but may bring in spotty showers to parts of the north bay on thanksgiving morning. then we go into a dry but cooler weekend, so our temperatures drop after that system moves through. and we'll see just a few spotty showers, but other than that, it's really dry throughout the week, and san francisco will continue to see highs in the 60s. mike, you're seeing the metering lights on at the bay bridge? >> yes, and i'm seeing the impact over the last five minutes, i've seen traffic start to stack up. nothing major, nothing unexpected. it's 5:53 now. typically turning on between 5:35 and 5:40. we're hearing about a minor
