identijeopardyizes t voting rights act. good morning, brie, what did the judges decide? >> reporter: good morning, frances. the new ruling from the eighth circuit court of appeals found that only the federal government can sue under section two of the voting rights act, which provides protection against discrimination in voting loss. most voting rights acts claims are brought by private citizens and groups, but this decision says only the department of justice can file a claim because the language in the law does not include a private right to action this applies to the seven states in the eighth circuit t it was centered on a case in arkansas similar challenges have recently within made in alabama, georgia and louisiana, and they were all successful the states were ordered to redraw their maps. but, the eighth circuit judges just decided that only the u.s.
