the first pause in fighting since the israel-hamas war began. after weeks of intense negotiation, a deal has been reached, and it will begin with the release of 13 hostages from gaza in just hours now, as part of the agreement, israel will adhere to a four-day cease-fire, but continued to bombard gaza until the moment it went into effect at midnight let's get right to nbc's claudio lavanga for more on all this we know it took a lot of help from countries, including the u.s. and qatar to broker this deal let's start with what we can expect over the next few days. >> reporter: morning, jessica, that's right the deal came into effect at midnight eastern time, marking the beginning of a four-day pause in the fighting. well, now, as you mentioned, later in the day, we expect to see the first 13 out of a total of 50 hostages to be freed by hamas from gaza, in exchange of the release of 150 palestinians

who are currently in jail in israel most f most, if not all of them, are expected to be women and children this deal was set to go into place thursday, 24 hours ago, but then there was a postponement this nerve-wracking wait for families waiting to hear whether their family members were among the hostages to be released and for palestinians to endure another day of bombing both sides hope this deal will go beyond four days. israel has already said it is ready to extend the truce for each day for any additional ten, ten hostages released by hamas, even though it's not clear whether when or if hamas will release more than the 50 hostages about 200 truck luxury allowed in gaza to deliver much-needed
