life. >> she's been reunited with her brother and her sister. it was magical that a brother and sister who for 50 days waited and hoped that abigail would come home and abigail, when she saw them, was just elated. and with her cousins as well. and so it's going to be a very slow process and it's 50 days. and having seen her parents murdered, but at least she's home safe. >> the truce extension set to expire tomorrow is also allowing more humanitarian aid to reach gaza, fuel and clean water are especially needed, the first of three american aid packages is on its way into gaza with things like food, medical supplies and winter clothing. >> david noriega is in tel aviv, israel, for us, what more are we learning about these hostages who just have been released. >> reporter: 12 hostages are now

safely in israeli territory, in the hands of the idf, that's ten israeli citizens and two thai nationals, among the group of ten israeli citizens, the young zest a 17-year-old girl and the oldest is an 86-year-old woman. so we can now say, i should say actually once we see the release of palestinian prisoners on the other side, should happen in the next hour or two, once we see that we'll be able to say that this cease-fire agreement was successfully extended by one day. as you mentioned both sides have indicated they have agreed to an extension of another day after this, tomorrow, and both sides have said they're willing to extend it even further day by day as long as hamas is willing to release hostages and israel is willing to release prisoners. back to you.

>> david, this temporary cease-fire allowing the aid trucks to bring in much needed supplies, do we have a sense of what is still needed there, though. >> reporter: yes, you're right that's the other big part of this agreement is allowing aid trucks into the gaza strip, not only that allowing that aid to be distributed throughout this trip especially in north, the heavily battered part of the military campaign. food, blankets shelter equipment, like tents and mattresses and much needed fuel like gasoline and cooking gas, every time you speak to health -- for example palestinian red crescent personnel they make a point of saying the aid they're receiving is not enough. there can never be enough humanitarian aid to undo the

damage as a result of this humanitarian campaign. the aid that does make it into the strip is of vital importance of the people who receive it. one thing we've been paying attention to is humanitarian aid designed to help people deal with weather conditions, it's getting cold here, people need things blankets and tents, given how many structures have been destroyed in gaza strip as the nights get colder can make the difference between a family and an elderly person stage alive and healthy or not. i know the people on the gaza strip are hoping that the cease-fire is extended because every day of no fighting means more aid they can receive. >> that makes sense. david, thank you so much. right now, back in this country, millions of people are dealing with the first big winter blast of the season, lake effect snow already covering parts of the midwest and east coast, but the big story is the wind and bitter cold and if you don't feel it yet you might feel

it later this week, meteorologist bill karins is tracking where all this weather is heading. but we begin with jesse kirsch. >> reporter: outside of erie, pennsylvania, in edinboro, more lake effect snow hitting the great lakes region since yesterday and what we're looking is at snow that comes from cold wind sweeping aross the great lakes and at the same time you have relatively warm waters in those lakes so the water, the heat and moisture gets swept up, becomes clouds and then you get snow out of it and that's what we're looking at here, no strangers to snow in this part of the country, but a reminder we always see from officials in snowstorms is to be more cautious on the roads if you need to drive and local police here in edinboro telling me that's more pressing of the first snowfall of the season. they want to get drivers back in

the mindset of winter driving. not just snow we're seeing in parts of the country for people who are staying dry they may still be getting hit with brutal cold temperatures up and down the east coast, ten to 20 degrees below average right now, but for people seeing the snowfall, parts of the great lakes getting this lake effect snow could continue to see snowfall into tomorrow. back to you. let's bring in meteorologist bill karins for the big picture here, bill, what are you seeing right now. >> reporter: the end of this lake effect snow event tonight into tomorrow morning. typical for this time of the year. we'll watch a couple on additional inches. right now, we still have lake effect warnings for cleveland and eie. syracuse, heavy snow. as far as some of the snow totals, just north of syracuse, 23 inches, flarm with the buffalo bills, at orchard park,

they picked up 16 inches. >> what are you tracking on the west coast? >> kind of quiet, very quiet, that ends, especially in the pacific northwest. into friday, one weak system goes through thursday, light snow, but a more powerful storm will come into pacific northwest. the lower elevations are going to bet some significant rain out of this and definitely some wind, too, this is not a storm for central or southern california, even the atmospheric river will mostly miss the central portion of the sierras. skiers are looking forward to getting snow in the mountains. not this time for northern california. but definitely for the you rockies. the storm system continues, this is all the way into sunday, too, so the rainfall total forecast from our government weather

what comes back when you give your love away. from my grandmother what came back was this unshakable strength. a fierce, determined, adventurous love that sustained her on these long journeys. >> reporter: that was of course him talking about the love she gave out to the world but the other thing that we heard repeatedly was about the love story between former president carter and rosalynn carter, married for 77 years, one of the more moving moments today came when their daughter got up and said, listen, because my father can't speak today in front of you i'm going to share some of his words about my mother and he read -- she read one of the letters that he had written to her some 75 years ago while she was -- while he was serving and just talking about how wonderful she was, how he continues to fall in love with her over and

over again. to see the former president sitting there in audience at the age of 99 was certainly a moving moment as well. >> truly moing remember his longtime wife switching gears, some video to show you and it's pretty bizarre, what do you see here? you might think it's a construction vehicle driving at night, but look closer, this is a hot pursuit, police officers in michigan chased this 35,000 forklift for over an hour and then they figured out the person behind the wheel was a 12-year-old. nbc news reporter maya egland is on this us for. >> reporter: this video is wild. the 12-year-old mild schooler stole a construction vehicle parked outside a middle school, the keys were apparently hidden inside the unlocked vehicle.

police caught up with the kid going 15, 20 miles per hour on residential road. you can hear the officer saying that the forklift is being lowered a and not to approach the front of the vehicle. . pursuit lasted an hour. when the 12-year-old stopped driving just before 8:00 p.m. he was taken into custody and put in a juvenile detention facility. no injuries reported. ten cars were hit. this was, quote, a very dangerous situation that could have ended with serious injuries, they also added that the investigation into all of this is still ongoing. kate. >> all right, a wild one. maya, thank you. disgraced former attorney and convicted killer alex murdaugh is back in court today, he pleaded guilty to state charges earlier this front. the victims of his crimes are confronting him in court.

guad is following this story. can you remind our viewers about the charges in this case? >> reporter: originally he was charged with over a hundred financial crimes, bank fraud, money laundering and tax evasion, after making a deal with prosecutors murdaugh pled guilty to 22 of those financial crimes, 18 victims, today's hearing included some of the victims in the courtroom giving their impact statements essentially speaking to murdaugh face to face, how they trusted him and how hard it was to believe he had taken so much money from them. >> my heart goes out not only to my family, but today to hear all these families you did wrong by, those children that you stole from, everything, they lost a

mother, and you stole every dime from them. i just don't understand. do you not have a soul? >> reporter: the house keeper who worked at the murdaugh home. he got money are a settlement and kept that money, that's why she was talking about the kids, just one of the victims who was able to speak in court today. >> notably we also heard from murdaugh himself, what did he tell the court before sentences in. >> reporter: we did, one of the reasons this was so important to have this hearing the judge needed to accept the deal he made for the 22 crimes that he pled guilty to, which included a 27-year sentence, the judge was to decide if he was going to accept that deal, here's murdaugh speaking in court today. >> i do care about each and every one of you, i'm so sorry.

welcome back to "the fast forward." the city is not giving up on baseball. a group of local fans, community leaders and investors are announcing a new team. kris sanchez has more on the oakland ballers. >> this is a different version of the gold and green. we are talking about the old land b's. they say no way will they root for the a's when they go to los angeles. the b's will be part of the pioneer baseball league, which will be that group's first west coast franchise. the new team's founders say their focus will be on creating a community centered team that

plan will pay off in the long run with new housing and new jobs. later today, san francisco's supervisors resume a debate critical on retaining control of the housing approval process. it follows the recent passing of a state deadline requiring the city to eliminate red tape and speed up permitting. without action, the city may have to yield to state authority. supervisors didn't act in time. a committee yesterday did take two steps to comply with state rules and extend that today, which the full board will take up today. san francisco must meet state goals to provide more than 80,000 new housing units in seven years or lose out on critical state funding. it's going to be another cool day. here is kari hall with our forecast. >> our temperatures today will still be cool, but about normal this time of year headed for the low to mid 60s for the east bay and the south bay will head for about 68 degrees. it will be cooler tomorrow as we

ground 41 miners are finally freed, stranded inside the himalaya. meagan fitzgerald has the latest on the rescue operation. >> reporter: after more than two weeks of being trapped inside a collapsed tunnel in northern india those construction workers were just freed. the rescue effort happening over the last few hours, they worked through the night, manually digging through rocks and debris, to reach these trapped workers, they had to resort to their hands after a drilling machine broke down, working on this massive project which is aimed at connecting various sites together through a network of roads but a landslide caused a portion of the nearly three-mile-long tunnel collapsed. these guys survived on food, water and oxygen supplied through these thin pipes. family and friends were waiting

at the mouth of this tunnel to welcome them back. doctors here in the u.s. are urging parents to be on high alert as hospitals across the country are seeing a spike in flu and rsv cases in children. >> nearly 2300 people were sent to the hospital the week of the 18th. now there are worries that number could spike even higher after people gathered for thanksgiving. dr. kavita patel joins us on set, where are we seeing the spread of the flu and rsv. >> we're seeing in states that we had seen in the early cases of the pandemic as well as other kind of tripledemic, with the thanksgiving travel we had recently we'll see these patterns emerge across the united states. >> how can you prevent it. >> prevention is key. let's go back to that the bakes, putting a mask on, covering when

that by your choice? >> reporter: an apple spokesperson pointing us to this privacy page saying namedrop was designed to share contact information with only your intended recipients. you can also choose the specific contact information you want to share, and just as important, which information you don't want to share. so, viral videos like this one on tiktok, with more than 2 million views. >> if you're sitting next to somebody on the subway or on the bus, they can get all your information, this is a huge security risk. >> reporter: are not completely accurate. this woman later clarifying her claims. >> while it's true that it doesn't automatically share like i thought it did it does open you up for exploitation of people who are ahead of the game. >> reporter: that has some people calling the warnings fearmongering, bangor, maine, with the reassurance that your phone is not downloading your contact list into iphone you walk by at the mall. is this new feature a security risk? >> i would not consider this to be a security risk.

deals. scott keyes the co-founder of the website going. scott, good to see you. what are so much the deals being offered for travel tuesday. >> good news and bad news when it comes to travel tuesday deals, the bad news in a little bit, but let's start with the good news, southwest offering 30% off nearly all flights whether you pay with cash or with points, that's a stellar deal. especially if you've already booked a southwest flight you can go back re-book it and pocket that 30%. alaska airlines offering roundtrip flights as little as $78, some stellar deals happening on those airlines as well as jetblue. that's the good news. the bad news, most travel tuesday deals are a bit of mirage, the best deals are happening throughout the year not just on this one day in late november. >> scott, what are some on tips for folks looking to get some of

those great deals you're talking about on travel tuesday? >> i think the best tip, if you're hoping to take a winter vacation, is to circle january 8th on your calendar, now, why january 8th? that is the date when flights drop as much as 80% off of their christmas and new year high. let me give you a couple of examples. there are flights from los angeles to tokyo, travel in late december, $1996 that exact same flight january 10th through 17th, just two weeks later, $427, nonstop, round trip. a discount of 79%. so looking into early january is the best time to get really cheap flights especially if you're just hoping to take a getaway this winter. >> we're writing down january 8th is the key date. so there's fine print, though, right, on a lot of these deals, the details. you got to pay attention to the details.

timing. what should people keep in mind? >> the biggest detail -- i hate recommending, just check the fine print, the biggest details to be on the look out is the date restrictions, many of these deals, whether they're southwest or alaska, are only on flights available in january or february, maybe march, not through let's say, may, june and july, and so you might have flights that might not otherwise be quite as enticing. but the biggest thing for folks to be aware of is that the best deals are on advertised sales. this is the common open secret in the airfare industry, look they might be advertising $800 roundtrip flights to europe that may sound wonderful, but an unadvertised deal that happened a couple of days ago, boston barcelona for $286 nonstop roundtrip. those deals are happening throughout the year without any advertising --

carb-laiden meals having things with fiber. increase your water intake before you eat. and portion control. probably the hardest one, because portion control is hard when you typically want to eat more of these foods that you may not see for the rest of the year. keeping the end in mind first is always going to help. >> so, stress comes into play, too, right, lot of people get stressed around the holidays. how do we keep away from stress eating. >> stress and anxiety really come from people when focus too much on the future or on the past, so staying present is another way to minimize the stress and always realizing that you can't control everything and in that creating a routine, stick to your routine and your habits that's very helpful to minimizing stress during the holiday season and also having boundaries, keeping away from things and/or people that may push your boundaries and make you a little bit more stressed

nbc bay area responds to a senior whose cellphone discount turned upside down. his bill cost him more with the discount. so he called chris chmura's team. >> ron in walnut creek says he asked t-mobile about a senior discount. he was told he would pay $50 a month less. not so bad. he agreed. then ron's next bill rolled in.
