exchanged for hostages there's intensive diplomacy going on behind the scenes. chapman, do we know anything about whether or not this truce will be extended beyond today? >> reporter: well, good morning, phillip and frances. we know that negotiations are under way in qatar. the cia director burns along with the head of israel's intelligence agency, the mossad, in qatar, trying to see what they can do to extend this temporary truce. now qatar, of course, has been central in mediating this current truce in exchange of hostages. burns focussing on ways to extend the temporary pause beyond this two-day extension to bring all the hostages home as well as possible long-term solutions to this war. a senior administration official tell nbc news, but there are questions as to what happens once they exhaust the exchange of women and children. what happens when they need to

exchange men and military-fighting-age people and how do they continue these exchanges with hostages held by groups other than hamas. there are questions in place. but yesterday saw the release of 12 more hostages taken on october 7. that includes ten israelis and two thai nationals. yesterday national security council spokesperson john kirby saying that the president and the national security team are in constant engagement on this situation. really, hour by hour, focussing on getting aid into gaza, as well as getting the hostages out of gaza and keeping this pause in place. he thanked president el sisi of egypt for helping facilitate % gade i aid into gaza. there's hope that more hostages could be released and that
