were shot and that it is more te shooter. a live look at the scene right now are still investigating this morning, thousands of people were already out celebrating juneteenth when it happened last night. the sideshow started sometime after 8:00 in the evening along grand and belleville avenues. then about a half hour later, police broke up a fight. the chaos which followed left officers overwhelmed. we had 28 officers and four sergeants out here, so we had a full detail monitoring this event because we knew events were going to happen and we wanted to make sure people had a safe time, but unfortunately that did not happen. now at this time, police say there are several people in the hospital, but that everyone so far has survived. oakland police also tell us that at one point, officers were punched and pushed. some of them were hurt. one person was arrested for assaulting an officer. we will continue to monitor this story

both on air and online. and in our next half hour, we'll take you live to the scene where bob redell is gathering more details. census village was a beautiful celebration. all right, it's time to get a look at that forecast for us. this morning. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect. how is it looking kari? yeah, we're starting out with some low clouds this morning. our usual marine layer that keeps those temperatures cooler in. yesterday was very pleasant. as we take a look at what to expect today in berkeley, we're starting out with temperatures in the low 50s. it will be 62 degrees at noon, and we'll stay in the 60s throughout the day. maybe just a touch warmer for some spots like san jose instead of 77. we're up to 78 today, and so we're not seeing as much of a big change compared to what we have ahead. it's going to be another day like yesterday as we officially welcome in summer. so we'll talk more about some high heat in our weekend forecast. that's coming up in a few minutes. back to you. thank you. well, developing this morning, tensions are rising once again between israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and the biden administration. netanyahu

accusing the us of withholding weapons and ammunitions to israel, slowing progress in the war against hamas. today in the bay's alice barr. live for us in washington dc this morning. and alice, now there's their high level meeting that has been put on hold. marcus. that's right. and the white house is saying behind the scenes that this meeting was not officially set. so it's not officially canceled, but it was certainly in the works and now is not. and that message from prime minister netanyahu, it was spoken in english. it was posted on social media and appeared geared toward an american audience. and it seems clear white house officials didn't like what they heard. in a new diplomatic divide, a meeting expected today between high level u.s. and israeli officials postponed u.s. officials saying they will not reward israel with the washington. sit down now, after israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu leveled this accusation, it's inconceivable that in the past few months, the

administration has been withholding weapons and ammunitions to israel. israel, america's closest ally, secretary of state antony blinken, adamant that the u.s. publicly paused just one shipment of 2,000 pound bombs that is still under review because of our concerns about their use in densely populated area like rafah that remains under under review. but everything else is moving as it normally would move the white house saying billions of dollars of arms have continued to flow into israel, calling the suggestion of any other delays categorically untrue. president biden has warned that certain weapons shipments could be halted if israel launched a full scale assault in rafah. but despite intensifying violence in the southern gaza city, where more than a million palestinian had been sheltering the white house maintains israel has not crossed a red line. and now growing concerns over a new front line, as israel signals it

may soon launch a fresh offensive along its border with lebanon, where israeli forces and iranian backed hezbollah militants have stepped up strikes against each other as the u.s. works to avoid all out war. president and prime minister netanyahu is set to address a joint session of congress next month, despite pushback from several democratic lawmakers. frustrated with his handling of the war and the humanitarian crisis in gaza, marcus had u.s. representative ro khanna on our show just yesterday, saying that he would not be attending that meeting. so all right, well, thank you so much, alice. well, today the supreme court could issue few decisions in several high profile cases. the justices will hand down more rulings in just a matter of hours. one of them is former president donald trump's election trial. he is arguing on grounds that any official acts he took while in office are immune from prosecution. now the

court is also taking up an abortion case. the biden administration challenged an abortion ban in idaho, saying it violates a federal health care law, which says treatment must be allowed in medical emergencies. idaho argues its law does allow abortions to save a woman's life and finally, the court has also been asked to rule on whether people can be fined or jailed for sleeping outdoors on public land when shelters are full. an appeals court decided this type of ban is cruel and unusual punishment, but leaders in some western states have said it makes it harder for them to regulate encampments within the city limits. 507 this morning, tributes pouring in for the say hey kid baseball icon willie mays will be honored today. beyond the bay area today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco, ginger. there are more opportunities for people to pay respects and be part of baseball history right?

5:11 am
some very heavy downpours. but the center of the storm is well south of texas and is expected to make landfall very soon. here there are parts of texas because of the high waves along the coastline. we are seeing some flooding in those areas, but overall we're expecting about 1 to 2in of rainfall there, much of it in mexico. and here's a look at the names as we're getting this season started. alberto kicking off the 2024 atlantic hurricane season. you can see a lot of the other names here that we have. and of course, this is expected to be a very busy hurricane season, so we'll continue to monitor that as we wake up and head out this morning. beautiful sunrise over walnut creek once again. very colorful, due in part to the wildfire smoke that we are seeing. and we're looking at still some mild temperatures for today up to the mid 70s for fremont and upper 70s for the tri-valley livermore 83 degrees, as well as 83. in santa rosa we will have a big heat up starting

go. hang out and enjoy some cooler weather. it's the valleys that are going to be heating up. and as we take a look where we're starting right now, we're in the low 50s and there's a light wind in san jose. it's in the upper 50s, and we've been dealing with some drifts of smoke may get a little bit worse today. unfortunately, as we're seeing much more of the smoke from the site's fire spreading across the north bay, that will also be moving into the east bay into the early afternoon and continuing into the evening. so the sky is going to look very hazy today, but also you may smell a little bit more of the smoke. we are seeing the wind shifting in from the north, and so with a lighter wind, and it's also coming from the direction of the fire, that's once again going to bring it down into the east bay, and it will at least become a little bit more breezy into this afternoon, into the evening. but we're still looking at some mild weather for today. concord we're going to see a high of 85 degrees and 77 in napa. in san mateo, 68 degrees.
5:22 am
so still cool there. los gatos, 83 degrees. look at what happens tomorrow. some of our temperatures are going up almost ten degrees. we're up to 94. in fairfield, 91 in morgan hill, and still some 70s for the peninsula into san francisco. slightly warmer on saturday. but look at that. triple digits for concord and upper 90s. pretty widespread for santa rosa into the east bay down to the south bay. so it's going to be a hot one this weekend. but then as we compare that to san francisco here, we're in the mid 70s. so definitely a big change. but it's still going to be comfortable there. mike is it looking better in san jose? it is because the slowing as we thought was just because the last of the crews clearing from north 87. so a great drive here throughout this portion of the south bay, even farther south, san gregorio right behind my name. oh thank you gabrielle. and looking over here toward highway one, we do have a couple of crashes in san gregorio, and that might be affecting both directions of highway one.
5:23 am
again, this is just down south, south of highway 84. the cut over there. now, as we look at the rest of the east bay, there's a little build for the north bay out of the westbound out of vallejo, but the rest of the contra costa county looks just fine here and a smooth drive out of dublin. the volume is starting to build out of the altamont pass. looks

out of oakland. several people have been shot. this is during a juneteenth celebration in and today in the bay. bob redell joins us from the scene. bob, the question a lot of folks want to know is, are those shooters off the streets? as far as we know, they are not. no arrests yet in connection with this shooting that took place here along grand avenue near lake merritt, between the intersections of euclid and bellevue, we're at you can see opd there still on the scene. they're not here to do their investigation. that part is wrapped up. they're here just to assist this person who's doing cleanup. what? you can't see are the number of markings on the ground. indicate where the bullet casings were at. but if you look over here, we're on the side of the edward jones building, where you can see one of the bullets went into the building itself through that glass, or a number of shots fired here last night. opd tells us yesterday there were about 5000 people celebrating juneteenth around lake merritt, about 2 to 3000. in this specific area where we're at, they say it was peaceful until

around 815 last night, when some drivers and motorcyclists, they began an illegal sideshow. in this intersection where we're standing, as you can see in this video, that someone posted on social media, then there was a fight that broke out down the street, police said. the crowd started heading that way. now a witness tells us that someone during that fight set off some fireworks. then there was gunfire. it is not clear how many people were shooting their firearms. and as you can see in this same social media post, people started running for cover. oakland fire, the department fire department says they treated at least four people for gunshot wounds. police say other people took private transportation to the hospital. it's not clear if they were shot as well. we all came out here to celebrate our culture, our freedom. you see, people are still out here singing and dancing. this is not fun. just two, 2 or 3 years ago, this happened and it seems to be a repeating cycle. it needs to be some kind of change in the

sunset at 831, with a very seasonable weather that we'll see today. and unfortunately we have unusual slowing for highway one. in fact, a full stop right now of both directions. because of this crash, one vehicle kind of went down the hill. there and another vehicle may be on the roadway. that's probably why they stopped both directions of traffic just north of pescadero beach there. so watch for that portion of highway one. if you don't know where that is, well then you don't drive there and that's okay. it's pretty far south and along the coast. everything else over here along the edges of the bay moving very smoothly. south bay just showing that little bit of slowing we typically see at this time on a on about 540 on highway 101, a smooth drive coming out of the altamont pass. no surprises here. the third of three games over at the coliseum. just the note because it's a midday game. and so at the game gets out, that may be some traffic coming past the area building for the evening commute, but we're looking at a lighter commute

stir. it's causing a stir. i mean, it's caught even israeli government officials off guard, much less the american government. the israeli prime minister posting the video to social media. here's a clip. during world war two, churchill told the united states, give us the tools. we'll do the job. and i say, give us the tools and we'll finish the job a lot faster. now it is true the us has been withholding some weapons, particularly heavy bombs, over the concern of heavy civilian casualties. the us has also warned israel not to invade rafah, a city of more than a million gazans. the united states has canceled a meeting with israeli officials over this new video. israeli journalists on social media say netanyahu made the video without informing advisers or the military, and a columnist for israel's oldest newspaper suggested netanyahu's visit to the us and is addressed to congress should be delayed until after the us election. big day for the us supreme court decisions are due to be
5:47 am
published today in tomorrow, and we are waiting on a bunch of really big ones. let's go through them quickly. there's the question of presidential immunity brought by donald trump. there's also an issue over january 6th, prosecutor sessions, emergency abortions, domestic violence and guns, and also homelessness. now, a little more detail on each of these cases in a country where all people are treated equally under the law, there are was one person above the law. that is the argument donald trump is making. he says a president has to be free to break the law as president in order to make the decisions necessary to run the country and not be prosecuted for it afterwards. as for january 6th attacks, the supreme court, looking at one of the charges brought against many of the rioters obstructing an official proceeding which was their stated goal. but critics say that law was designed to stop things like witness tampering and shouldn't have
5:48 am
been used in the january 6th case. if the high court were to rule that the law was used improperly, charges against some of the attackers could be dropped or reversed. the abortion case centers around idaho's defense of life act, which says an emergency abortion can only be performed to save the life of a woman. the federal government says that violates federal law requiring hospitals to protect the health of anyone who seeks care. we're also waiting on a decision on guns, our laws that prevent domestic abusers with restraining orders from keeping their guns constitutional. or should we give them their guns back? the plaintiff in the case points out there's nothing in the second amendment about domestic abuse, and a case. california watching carefully. can you make it illegal to sleep in public, particularly if there's nowhere else to sleep? because the shelters are full? is sleeping a basic human right or can it be
5:49 am
legislated? now, that's not all of them. there are 23 decisions outstanding, but those are some of the big ones. court decisions will be released at 7 a.m. our time could be all of those decisions, some of those decisions saving the rest for tomorrow, we don't know now, we do know the presidential immunity cases, one of the lower courts that have been waiting on eagerly to move forward with the prosecution of donald trump. and yet the supreme court has been saving that one until the last or second to last day. marcus all right. we'll continue to follow two. thanks, scott. well more american swimmers punching their tickets to the paris olympic games. but in some cases, it's the same old, same old. now, the first one off, they have a new u.s. record there. so during yesterday's trials at indianapolis, matt fallon from warren, new jersey, won the 200 meter breaststroke and the process shattering the u.s. record by nearly three quarters of a second. g's meantime, the legend just keeps getting larger for the one time stanford swimming sensation
5:50 am
katie ledecky, she dominated in her signature event, the 1500 meter freestyle. ledecky, raising some eyebrows there. yeah, yeah, because she was wearing a university of florida swim cap. but that's where she trains now. so i guess she can do that. she's still a cardinal. always a card. right. so after the race, she actually talked about being excited to defend her title as well as plans to drop the 200m in paris to focus on the relay. i've been on it every year since 2013, so, it's something that i'm always fired up for and that's why i keep swimming the 200. i just want to continue to, you know, be ready for that relay push the other girls, you know, nbc bay area will bring you exclusive coverage of the paris olympic games. it begins just over a month from now. opening ceremonies on july 26th. yeah. all right. well, you are if you are headed to the santa cruz boardwalk, there is a new ride for you. the surge. it spins and lifts up to two dozen riders up
5:51 am
into the air. this is the second new ride to open on the boardwalk this year. the dream wheel opened last month and trending this morning, a giant dragon is atop the empire state building as we speak. and if you think that the inflatable itself is impressive, wait until you see what it took to install it. we actually got an inside look months long process to bring that big idea to life. the inflatable dragon part of a campaign this is for hbo series house of dragons. but how they get it there. you're asking, well, who else bets but a team of 20 master riggers, led by james marksberry and about 270ft of fabric and 1,500 pounds. there you know what? they actually had to repel down just to make sure it was secure. and that building. exactly as designed. but we spread the body around using different hoists from different levels. and then we started tying it back, deflated. now the project is the
5:52 am
first of this magnitude at the empire state building, and now it is also the place of perhaps the most special marriage proposal in the city. yes that's james who helped install the dragon, asking his girlfriend to marry him. and you know what? i'm glad she said yes. yes. now get me down. all i want to do this. and you said no. no. she said yes. so congratulations to them. wow. i mean, maybe they could save that and then use it in the macy's parade at some point, or the wedding you could ride in on it. yeah. all i can picture is that thing coming unmounted. and then there's just these people seeing a dragon flying through the city. goodness. tourists are like, what? all right, well, kari, it's the first day of summer. that's exciting. yes it is exciting. and we, unfortunately, are going to have some summer like, temperatures coming our way. we're going to enjoy today while it's still mild. and we're starting out with some fog and a little bit of the mist and drizzle over san francisco right now, you can kind of see it on
5:53 am
the camera. well, as we take a look at san jose, it's cloudy here as well. we're in the upper 50s and it's 52 in san rafael. we are also going to have to deal with more of the smoke, the wildfire smoke that's been farther to the north from the sites. fire has been spreading across calistoga, over towards santa rosa. as we go into the next few hours, you're going to notice that you may smell a little bit more of that smoke around napa and fairfield today, and then it continues to move off towards the east as we go into this afternoon, but definitely more of an impact for us for today as we get a lighter wind in san jose. we're starting out with our temperatures in the mid 50s, and it's going to be partly to mostly cloudy for the next couple of hours, but eventually clearing out temperatures warming up into the mid 60s at 10:00. and then into the mid to upper 70s for later today. and then we're seeing that high temperature up until about 4:00. and then shortly thereafter, the temperature starts to drop as the wind
5:54 am
increases. but we are staying mostly clear and our temperatures today will be very much like yesterday, but slightly warmer in los gatos with a high of 83. we're up to 73 in hayward and seeing some mid 80s for concord into the afternoon along the coastline. it's in the low 60s and 72. in redwood city. san francisco will be in the upper 50s for the marina district and to the outer sunset. and 63 in the mission district, mill valley, 70 degrees today, while santa rosa will hit a high of 83. let's take a look at concord and what to expect. there will be a quick spike in temperatures from friday to saturday, reaching into the mid 90s, and then we'll drop it back to the mid 80s from sunday into much of next week. so we are going to have a significant warm up here over the next few days, and we're going from 83 to today 93 tomorrow. and the hottest day will be on saturday. the good thing is that with our microclimates, there will still be some mild places and cooler
5:55 am
weather places where we can go to cool off, and that will be along the coastline, as well as san francisco, where we're going to see those temperatures peaking up to about 74 on saturday and then back to the 60s on sunday. mike, you're saying that the folks are back to work today? yeah, you can see it here at the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights were actually turned on for less than an hour, about 45 minutes yesterday. today they'll be on probably for the typical duration. look at the backup in the middle and it's slowly building. no drama coming through the east bay, but still we have the bills for highway 37 in the north bay and highway four to pittsburgh and bay point. we'll take you out here toward the tri valley, a smooth drive in out of the altamont pass, a little bill for altamont pass road and for vasco as well. so the drive time, much bigger already than it was yesterday. we're at 23 minutes from marsh creek, down out of contra costa county to 580. you see the bill for highway four 580 as well. the rest of the bay shows a smooth flow of traffic. i do have an update for highway one. just got this seconds ago. highway one has been reopened
5:56 am
just north of pescadero. we have the crash involved a number of vehicles there and reports of major injuries, but we have traffic control in place. i'll continue to follow the reports, but you can now access highway one through the area. once again, back to you all right. thanks so much, mike. well happening now, nearly 60% of americans feel like they are coming up short in their emergency savings. a new survey from bank rate shows it was below 40% back in 2018. more than one quarter of all americans have no emergency savings at all, while nearly 3 in 10 have some but not enough to cover three months worth of expenses. the build up of your savings, they say. experts anyway, they recommend you setting up a direct deposit from your paycheck or an automated transfer from your checking into a direct savings account. much more ahead on today in the bay, including breaking news from overnight. several people shot in oakland following a wild sideshow at what was supposed to be a celebration. the officers also hurt during the chaos and
