least one overnight fire as the start of a heat wave arrives. a lot of our concerns have to do with the public and safety, and what they're planning on doing for the week. with extreme temperatures descending on the bay area, we're tracking heightened fire danger. and what you need to know with the 4th of july holiday around the corner. plus, oakland's leadership crisis could reach a critical moment today. the key hearing that could put the mayor's fate in the hands of the voters of oakland. this is today in the

bay. thanks for joining us on this tuesday morning. i'm kris sanchez, i'm in for marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we start with team coverage this morning on this microclimate weather alert. bob redell is at the scene of an early morning brush fire. but let's get straight to meteorologist kari hall. she's been tracking just how hot is expected to get really over the next few hours. yeah, and it's going to ramp up quickly with those temperatures and the excessive heat warning for these areas in pink will begin at 11:00. this morning. and it has been extended through saturday evening. so we have a long duration heat wave where our temperatures for parts of the bay and the coast will reach into the 80s and 90s, and then these areas in pink, which is a step up from a heat advisory, will be under temperatures that will hit up to 110 degrees. we normally have our cool start to the morning, but right now we're already seeing temperatures ramping up and it's at 87
6:02 am
degrees in vacaville, the hottest spot there. but mostly 50s and 60s. as you get ready to head out the door, here's a look at our high temperatures for today. much hotter than yesterday, much more dangerous. and that means you have a shorter amount of time before this heat may start to impact your health. so make sure that you're staying hydrated throughout the day. and if you do have to work outside, taking lots of breaks in the shade, and we're going to continue to track even hotter temperatures in our forecast, that's coming up just ahead. all right. thank you very much. that's concerning because fire danger and especially big concern right now over the coming days, especially with this added element of illegal fireworks for the 4th of july. and already firefighters are looking into the possibility that illegal fireworks started one fire just last night. today in the bay's bob redell is live this morning in concord, where another fire caused a scare this morning. good morning to you, bob. good morning, chris and lauren. i did speak earlier with a battalion chief with con fire who was here on the scene at the lime ridge open space here in
6:03 am
concord. and he believes this small wildfire. you can see the burn scar there. you still see some smoldering. he believes that this fire overnight could have been started by illegal fireworks, because he believes the fire started in the middle of the hill. this is not confirmed. they would still need to investigate if they were even going to do that. but that is his belief based on years of experience of fighting these kinds of fire. fire started around 245 this morning. you can see a time lapse video of it progressing. it burned about 6 to 7 acres on this hill. it did come close to a neighborhood on north ridge drive, which is on the other side of the hill, but con fire was able to stop and put out the fire. now the bc tells me a dozer line that was dug before the fire season helped them a lot. a perfect illustration of why defensible space is so important when you have structures and neighborhoods up against hillsides. last night, another fire in the hills above berkeley. this was on grizzly peak. you can see in this video that it took off fast, but firefighters quick response kept
6:04 am
it to just two acres. they again believe that that one was also started by fireworks. cal fire is urging residents to not set off fireworks themselves because they know all too well. and we're seeing it this morning and last night how they can spark a fire in an instant. it happens every year. we see it often and again, we strongly encourage residents to let the professionals do the show. a lot of our concerns have to do with the public and safety, and what they're planning on doing for the week. some cities do sell safe and sane fireworks. those are legal, cal fire says. make sure there's always an adult around if you're going to be lighting those that you're away from any vegetation and that you have some sort of water water source, whether it be a pail of water or a hose nearby. reporting live here in concord, bob redell today in the bay. it's so concerning. everyone really needs to be on high

alert. thanks for the latest there, bob. and pg&e is now listing ten northern california counties on its planned power shutoff watch list that includes napa, sonoma and solano. these are done in the event of high fire risk, the utility also encouraging everyone to prepare for potential power outages by making sure your flashlights are working and your electronics are charged. our consumer team just recently stood feet away from this intense fire exercise that leveled this tiny home in just a few minutes. it is one video reminder of just how quickly a wildfire can spread and lead to devastation. engineers say we can all take some simple steps right now to reduce our risk. consumer investigator chris chmura says the next few minutes could one day save your home. watching a tiny home burn down right next to one that didn't really opened our eyes before the first flames, we spoke with
6:06 am
engineer ann cope. i'm the chief engineer for ibbs. ibbs is the institute for building and home safety, which studies fires and says these two homes look alike. but there are differences you can learn from and possibly fix yourself. let's start at the bottom. mulch and plants lined the first few inches of the house that burned down. even though this plant is beautiful, healthy, and green, it will absolutely ignite. she's right. it did ignite during the fire. the tiny home that survived had plants too, but they were away from the walls, plus rocks and pavers circled the house, not mulch. we got this hardscaping at the big box store, for like $5 a foot. moving on and then focused on the next five feet away from the house, namely the fence, a wood fence with shrubs connected to the house that burned. the house that survived had this metal fence instead of the wood fence. everything within these first five feet is noncombustible and also noted the siding, vulnerable wood on
6:07 am
the left, tougher composite material on the right. also wide open heat funneling eaves on the house that burned but enclosed eaves on the house that survived. those are more expensive adjustments that might require a pro, but ann says they're worth it. we're talking about cutting your risk in half. if you make significant changes, only consult licensed contractors and get a couple quotes to make sure you're not overpaying. another way to stay prepared. get up to the minute updates right to your phone or any breaking news or weather alerts. just download our nbc bay area app. it's available for all devices. 606 right now and happening today. embattled oakland mayor sheng thao will likely learn if she'll face a recall this november. city council members are expected to approve a resolution for a recall vote in the general election. the city clerk last month announced. organizers gathered enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. the recall comes as the mayor deals

not only with budget crisis, but the fallout from the recent fbi search of her home. it's still not clear what agents were looking for, or if she'll face possible charges. also today in oakland, police officers plan to demand city leaders reject potential cuts to the police force. council members are planning to finalize a new budget today. two plans are under consideration. one includes the mayor's original proposed budget, with amendments from the council and a contingency with more cuts if the coliseum sale is not finalized by september. the second option leaves out the coliseum sale, calling for $63 million in cuts, including public safety. the oakland police officers union is seeking a rejection of that proposal and instead hiring an outside budget expert. union leaders are holding a news conference this morning. later this morning, vice president kamala harris will make a quick stop in the bay area. right now, she is in

southern california, and she and second gentleman doug emhoff are scheduled to arrive at sfo just before ten this morning. the couple is attending an undisclosed event later this afternoon. they are scheduled to depart for washington before dinnertime and taking a live look at downtown san jose. it looks cool in that picture, but kari is telling us that we are starting off with hot temperatures already this morning. yeah, parts of the bay area starting out with some warmer temperatures, and we can just feel the difference even if it's just a few degrees when you walk out the door and it's 65 compared to the 55 we're used to, and it's 57. in san francisco, 57 in san rafael. so we are going to see some of our valleys heating up very quickly over the next few hours. take a look at our trend in dublin at 7:00. we're at 70 degrees, and at 11:00 it is 92 degrees. and we can see a lot of numbers on here. those are the highs that will reach over 100 degrees for
6:10 am
several hours throughout the day. and that is what makes it so dangerous to have such a long stretch of hot weather through the day, and not much cooling at night as we go into the next few hours, we're already at 99 degrees at noon in napa and in san francisco it will be in the low 80s. we are looking at those temperatures up to 110 degrees, most likely higher in a few spots like concord, as well as fairfield and all the way up to ukiah. so we're going to be tracking more of this dangerous heat over the next few days. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. mike's been trying to save us some money at the pump. yeah, we're looking for the lowest numbers we can find. considering you have higher numbers than i want right there. let's look over here. this is actually good. look at the first number on all these prices. we'll start with our south bay low. it's a cool 3.95 at cupertino. car wash on north deanza boulevard. still under four bucks as well, but barely in oakland we're going to point to 399 at arco on telegraph avenue. and one more under four bucks. same price

morning. we are under a microclimate weather alert right now at 614, as we take a look at a sunny san jose and a hazy sky. also watching that air quality as our temperatures heat up high levels of ozone today. and we'll see those triple digit temperatures pretty widespread across our inland valleys. we'll take a look ahead as we approach our 4th of july holiday. in all of the concerns we have coming up in a few minutes, kari mentioned holiday, and that's what we're seeing as far as that volume of traffic looks like holiday week traffic. a lighter build on the san mateo bridge. but we do have a couple of spots for tracking, including that crash in san jose, and we'll check in on that bay bridge toll plaza as well. coming up. well good morning. very happy tuesday to you. futures calling for a lower open as we watch bond yields rise. now analysts at the wall street journal say bonds may be pricing in a big republican win. not just the white house but the senate as

slightly more unhealthy air quality. it is a spare the air alert, moderate air quality for the north bay as well as the coast and the bay, but unhealthy for sensitive groups in the east bay, as well as santa clara valley. as we get not only a lot more pollutants, but more ozone, which is very dangerous for you to breathe in as we deal with this heat, drink lots of water, take breaks in the shade and take care of pets and livestock. and be mindful that in a parked car could reach over 150 degrees. so not even a few minutes is okay for your pets or children to be left in a vehicle and the 4th of july barbecues, you have to plan ahead. make sure that we're only grilling on paved surfaces, being careful with those coals. and also if you're enjoying the water, wear a life jacket and be mindful of water safety. here's a look at antioch, one of our hot spots, and look at the trend in our temperatures. if you do have some outdoor activities to get done before, 9:00 is probably the best time already. at 10:00,

it's 88 degrees. at 11:00 it is 93 degrees. and look at how hot it gets as we go afternoon into the rest of the day. it just keeps going up and up and up. 106 at 4:00 and still 106 at 5:00. and then gradually it's coming back down, but it's going to take a while before it really cools off. we're headed for 112 degrees in fairfield today. the hottest temperature on this map, with a major heat risk all across the bay area 107 in napa and santa rosa and tomorrow it gets even hotter in some spots, like fairfield going up a degree, ukiah going up to 112. we'll be in the upper 90s for san jose and a lot of highs over 100 degrees for the south county. it just continues into thursday. so the more days we have of heat like this, it's going to start to add on how it's affecting you. those sleepless nights, those really tired days, and also dealing with a lot of sweating and dehydration. just try to do what
6:23 am
you can to take care of yourself. as this heat continues throughout the weekend into next week and in san francisco, we're in the upper 80s tomorrow. but then coming down a few degrees for the weekend. mike, you are tracking a crash in san jose. yeah, and it's still here, but it officially is demarcated as a crash, not a disabled vehicle. no injuries reported and everything's off to the shoulder, but there's 101 just north of 680. as we look at the rest of the map, including that area, everything moves very smoothly. there's minor slowing here and there. the backup, though, finally showing up at the toll plaza as scott was talking about chicken in a bag. back to you. all the filthiest day of the year when it comes to america's beaches is almost here, but we can all do our part to keep them clean. next on today in the bay. how to protect nature as part of your holiday. you're watching today in the bay

as many people will celebrate the 4th of july at bay area beaches or in tahoe. but did you know that the day after the fourth has become known as the dirtiest beach day of the year? that's according to surfrider, the nonprofit ocean conservation group whose volunteers picked up 100,000 pounds of litter last year after the holiday. they're calling on all of us to do our part and protect our beautiful coastline. we believe that things can be better, which is

6:31 am
a heat wave is about to settle in and with 4th of july coming, greater fire danger from record temperatures to the threat of illegal fireworks, we're tracking all your conditions. this is today in the bay good tuesday morning to you. 630 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia and i'm kris sanchez. we are under a microclimate weather alert this morning. fireworks already seem to have started. an early morning fire in concord. according to firefighters, that is in large part because of where the fire started. that determination, they did manage to limit the damage to several acres along lime ridge open space, but the fire danger will likely only intensify over the next few days. we have team coverage this morning. our thom jensen is live in one county
6:32 am
where shutoffs have already started by pg&e and just ahead, first responders will lay out their extreme heat strategies as well. but first, let's head over to meteorologist kari hall. she's leading our coverage this morning with a look at the conditions right now. and we're starting out with some mild temperatures this morning. but we know that quickly that heat is going to be hitting today. and an 11:00 an excessive heat warning will begin for these areas shaded in pink and along the bay. it's going to be a heat advisory where our highs will reach into the 80s and 90s. this dangerous heat will be prolonged over a period of several days. so we're going to start today by day. see the effects of this hitting us harder as we're right now seeing temperatures in the mid 60s, it may not be this cool tomorrow morning or the day after. we're already at 87 in vacaville as we're headed for 109 degrees there today. a major heat risk and how this could quickly impact your health as we deal with hour upon hour of those highs over 100 degrees for
6:33 am
those inland valleys. unfortunately, tomorrow it gets even worse and our heat risk turns to extreme. as you're seeing those purple contours there on our valley maps across the bay area, as we are once again going to have several days of not only the high heat, but also some breezy winds and extremely low humidity and some air pollution that may be harmful to your health. so we're watching all of these risks here and talking more about when we may see some relief in that extended forecast that's coming up in a few minutes. back to you. thank you. kari. so that extreme heat is also bringing the elevated threat of wildfires. and as a result, pg&e may have to cut power to thousands of northern california customers. today in the bay's, thom jensen is live in the north bay, where some of those psps shutoffs are possible and some parts are going to be closed as well as a precaution. right, tom. good morning. yeah. and we've just heard, you know, a little bit ago that some of
6:34 am
those public safety power shutdowns have already begun in vacaville, for instance, several customers have already lost their power this morning as part of those tools to prevent wildfires up north of calistoga in lake county. also, some folks have already had their power shut down and open spaces like this here in fairfield, in the city of fairfield, where at rockville hill regional park are now closed. the parking lot, including the trailhead gate, and there are signs up showing the fire danger. fairfield also closed spyglass and the surface ranch rolling hills open spaces in addition, pg&e says there are potentially eight counties that could face public safety power shutoffs, including three in the bay area. the utilities there's a possibility of psps events here in solano county already started in vacaville and in neighboring napa county and in sonoma county, that means no air conditioning, no refrigeration when you need it most. a possible power shut down during these soaring triple digit temperatures beginning today. but pg&e says it's a needed tool
6:35 am
to prevent wildfires, and the utility says its workers are ready to respond when something happens. our crews will get out there in the field, all hands on deck, patrolling, making repairs, and once we determined there's no hazards in the field, we will re-energize the power for customers who are impacted. the counties are also included in a red flag warning, which started last night and run through tomorrow night. fire agencies across the bay area are asking people to be extra careful, especially as the 4th of july approaches, asking folks not to come out to open spaces like this, use fireworks that are already outlawed in most counties. also, they're asking people to obey all of the local fire agency firework laws around their different jurisdictions because the fire danger is so high. and remember, when you're out in these areas, it is going to be so hot. remember to stay hydrated, because that was one
6:36 am
of the areas where the emergency crews really see a lot of calls during these heat waves. as for people who are in dehydrated or having heat stroke and those sort of medical emergencies because of the heat, we're live in fairfield, thom jensen, today in the bay, a pretty preventable. so make sure you drink your water, wear your sunscreen. thank you. tom well, as the heat wave takes hold, bay area firefighters certainly on heightened alert. joining me live this morning is santa rosa fire marshal paul lowenthal. thanks so much for getting up early. although i'm sure you're always on this heightened alert. now, we know that it's already been a pretty active fire season so far. what is your response been? has it been different? you're seeing it increasing so far this year. you've got crews ready and able to go. yeah. we've absolutely seen an increase in fire activity a lot earlier in the season than we would have liked to see, but that's as a result of a lot of the rainfall we received and how much our seasonal grasses have grown and how quickly they've drawn out given the conditions. with that, we're already seeing, like i said, an increase of fire
6:37 am
activity not only locally but around the region, around the state and that's definitely a cause for concern as we head into this holiday week. so you know, how we see, like the chp, they've got increased patrols over the holiday weekend and whatnot. do you have more staff on on standby as well for something like this? given that the threat of 4th of july fireworks, dangers, etc. yeah, there are measures that are taken really across the entire state, here in the north bay, additional resources have been, staffed up at various departments where there's a need either to extended response times or just where there's just a need for additional staffing. you'll likely see a lot more of that staffing in place on the actual 4th of july day, when it's the holiday when we expect a lot more activity. and that not only includes firefighters, but often additional police officers as well as fire investigators and fire prevention officers for fireworks patrol. and i would imagine, you know, we talk about heat stroke just for, you know, everyone to be aware, keep hydrated. tips to your staff as well. looking at here locally,
6:38 am
at least seven, if not more days of 95 degree plus temperatures, heat exhaustion is definitely a concern of ours and we want to heat it, head it off before it even gets to that point. and it's just important to make sure that we're paying attention to those that are vulnerable, check to make sure that people that are starting to get thirsty, heavy sweating, nausea or weakness are definitely moved into a cooler area. and we want to absolutely avoid heat stroke. heat stroke is no joke. it's something we want to absolutely call 911 for. when somebody starts to become confused, dizzy, start to lose consciousness. activating the 911 system as quickly as possible is critical. all right? and it's critical that everyone plays it safe. we've been saying it all morning long. leave the fireworks to the pros. you have any other advice for folks? know the fireworks is a is definitely a concern of ours. we actually had a couple of grass fires yesterday. one of them, we do believe was a result of fireworks, illegal. and it's important to realize that not only our safe and sane in illegal fireworks, both illegal
6:39 am
in a number of communities, but they're definitely, going to cause some significant issues as we head into this week, just with how dry things are, the winds, it's just we we'd prefer to leave the fireworks to the professionals this week, and avoid anything that could spark a wildfire. well, hopefully it will be a nice, calm 4th of july for you and your crew as well. paul lowenthal, thanks so much for joining us this morning. and we want to tell people as well, you know, many bay area cities actually preparing by opening up cooling centers to provide water power outlets, free wi-fi. our team has compiled a list of all those locations for you. just use your smartphone camera, scan the qr code on your screen, or go to nbcbayarea.com to find a cooling center near you. it is 639 now, and as soon as tonight we might know the results of a special recall election involving two members of an embattled school board. at 8:00 tonight, the polls close in the election to recall sunol school district board president ryan jurgensen and trustee linda hurley. each of them voted to
6:40 am
ban the flying of the pride flag on campus last year. the decision made national headlines. the district superintendent also recently announced her plans to retire. so if that recall is successful, that school board would be left with just one trustee. a live look now at the golden gate bridge and the bay bridge toll plaza. two of the main traffic arteries expected to fill up as drivers hit the road for the 4th of july holiday. if you're one of them, triple a has some advice for you. if you're hoping to leave today. the worst time to travel will be between two in the afternoon until 6:00 tonight. if you want better conditions for your drive, consider waiting until after 7 p.m. if you're hitting the road tomorrow or on the 4th of july. the worst travel window is 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. again, the best time is any time before noon, and it's interesting because we've seen kind of lighter traffic. i felt at least yesterday with maybe some people on holiday already in the
6:41 am
mornings. exactly. so triple a will call them captain obvious as well for the bay area, because we know those patterns any day of the week. let's look at the roadways right now though we do have a backup, but it's not as heavy of the commute. and i'll show you the example here. the bay bridge toll plaza, which you guys just showed it is backed up and full, but it's only full to about the 880 overcrossing. and then as we look at the map, the pressure coming into the area not really that heavy. we're seeing a little build through berkeley, a little through richmond, but really not a major issue. we can anticipate more traffic, but the easy drive getting there is great tuesday, more traffic than yesterday. so we do see some slowing for 680 down toward walnut creek. and from time to time we see slowing for 24 right around the caldecott tunnel. no major concerns around the bay except for this one. crash involving a number of vehicles there slowing now 84 approaching 680. there may be crews removing some of those vehicles. we're looking at a smooth drive, but remember that we have the event at levi's stadium tonight and that means disruption and delays for some of the vta lines. so check their website. back to

with the pressure within the party to replace biden. former president trump, meantime, has asked the courts to delay his sentencing due next week. because of that new decision from the supreme court that not only gives presidents some immunity from laws during their time at office. it prohibits prosecutors from asking questions about the crimes motives. trumps payoff to an adult film actress took place long before he was president, but some of the evidence that prosecutors gathered, like how he signed checks to his lawyer to mask the payoff, were made while he was president. now, legal scholars are really still thinking through this major, just the enormity of the decision yesterday that there is one person, one office that's above the law. it was actually today, july 2nd, that the us continental congress voted to create its own united states independent of a king in her

scathing dissent yesterday, justice sotomayor wrote, the relationship between the president and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably in every use of official power. the president is now a king above the law. i want to show you president biden's reaction last night. i'm going to run a fair amount of it because this is such a big change in the way america understands its relationship to power. this nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in america. each each of us is equal before the law. no one, no one is above the law. not even the president of the united states. with today's supreme court decision on presidential immunity, that fundamentally changed for all. for all practical purposes, today's decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what the president can do. this is a
6:48 am
fundamentally new principle, and it's a dangerous precedent, because the power of the office will no longer be constrained by the law, even including the supreme court of the united states. the only limits will be self-imposed by the president alone. i concur with justice sotomayor's dissent today. she here's what she said. she said, in every use of official power, the president is now a king above the law with fear for our democracy, i dissent. end of quote. so should the american people dissent. i dissent. may god bless you all, and may god help preserve our democracy. meantime president biden will be at the dc city emergency operations center this morning for a briefing on extreme weather, including, of course, that upcoming incoming hurricane laura. thank you very much. one to follow. well with the 2024 paris olympics now a little more

26th. nbc bay area will bring you exclusive coverage throughout the paris olympic games. should be fun. it's getting close. it is getting very close, we are talking about that high, high heat though. and, you know, tom was talking about people getting dehydrated. if you're trying to be outside. and when we say stay hydrated, if you feel thirsty, it's probably already too late. and you just have to try to catch up. but we are, of course, encouraging lots of water throughout the day as we enter into some of the hottest temperatures we've had so far this year. and not only that, we're having to limit time outside as we deal with high levels of ozone, which will be unhealthy to breathe in. it's going to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. that means if you have asthma, any kind of breathing problem or heart condition, you do want to make sure that you're limiting your time out there. we're seeing a pretty high measure of some of the ozone and the smoggy conditions today. as we typically see during heat waves, but we also usually have a nice, cool morning to reset the day.

and we're starting out with some mid 50s in parts of the north bay. we're at 57 in san francisco and san mateo, but other areas haven't had that nice recovery where we're at 87 to start out the morning right now in vacaville and there, it's going to reach 109 degrees for today. and we're also looking at a lot of highs over 100 degrees for the east bay into the south county and extending over toward los gatos. and the north bay is going to be 104 degrees and higher up to 109 in ukiah, also warming up in san francisco. and that continues tomorrow as well, with a high of 85 degrees across the bay into oakland, 94 degrees and 107 in livermore. tomorrow is the peak of those temperatures as we see widespread extreme heat risk and how this could quickly impact your health. and it just continues into thursday, as we're not going to see those overnight temperatures coming down as low as we look ahead.

we'll spotlight walnut creek where we do typically have some hot temperatures. this is going to last into the weekend with highs over 100 degrees and then 90s. but there is not really a major cooldown we're seeing here . extending the forecast out ten days. so as we take a look at our inland 7-day forecast through the 4th of july, we're seeing some extremely dangerous temperatures. and in san francisco it's going to be very warm there. but coming down a few degrees here and along the coastline as we make it into the weekend. mike, you are looking at a slow drive coming out of richmond. yeah, we had to build up at the richmond bridge. it was kind of sudden and now easing up once again, but we will see that volume start to build over the next hour. and then things will probably lighten up pretty quickly around these parts of the bay. 680 did show a lot more slowing over the last 15 20 minutes, but now again, it's kind of starting to smooth itself out. so that might be that early burst we're talking about. also, 880 and 680 show a typical build as you're coming down same same latitude just south of 580. no major

concerns except for the one with the crash on highway 84. it's now being cleared in the area, so we're starting to see some improvement as you come down towards 680. and there's that volume through dublin. it's there, but not a major problem. back to you. all right. thank you very much mike. it is 652 and happening now. we're learning two of the south bay's most popular movie theaters may have just played their final films. indiewire reports the showplace icon theater and kitchens in san jose's valley fair and mountain view village at san antonio center have each suddenly closed. people are also talking about on social media. this is all after the operator, which is based in the midwest, closed all four of its u.s. locations. while we couldn't get our own information, tickets are no longer being sold on fandango and the google listing for the theaters now says permanently closed. while we are back with a last check of our top stories this morning, including fireworks that are already tied to at least one bay area fire. and this is happening as we are

forward with a look at the top stories on today in the bay including decision day in oakland, embattled mayor sheng thao will likely learn if she'll face a recall this november. city council members are expected to approve a resolution for the recall vote in the general election. the city clerk last month announced organizers gathered enough signatures to qualify for the ballot. the recall comes as the mayor deals with not only a budget crisis, but with fallout from the recent fbi search of her home. it's still not clear what agents were looking for, or if she'll face possible charges. firefighters say an overnight grass fire in concord. you're seeing it here on your screen might have been sparked by illegal fireworks. it happened in the middle of the lime ridge open space, just
6:58 am
before three this morning. the fire did burn several acres near north ridge drive, but it was completely out within about two hours. meanwhile, illegal fireworks also believed to have sparked a fire in the berkeley hills on grizzly peak. that one started at ten last night and burned about two acres. cal fire is urging everyone to avoid setting off fireworks. if you use safe and sane ones, make sure there's always an adult around and that you are away from vegetation and have a water source handy. remember, safe and sane, not legal in all communities. pg&e says in some cases, weather related planned power shutoffs are already underway, and that includes about 40 customers in vacaville and nine customers in calistoga. utility is warning about shutoffs in napa, sonoma and solano counties due to elevated fire risk. everyone is encouraged to prepare for potential unplanned power outages by making sure your flashlights are working and your electronics are charged on many
