was sold over ten years ago. there's also a bond measure that was passed by voters in de to help fund this project. now there are 56 units and this is what i want to point out. these units are going for 60% of market rate. now we talk about making it in the bay and how expensive it is to live in the bay area. the one bedroom units here are going for 16 to $1700, two bedroom units for 21 to $2200, and three bedroom units for $2,800. the school district superintendent recognizes affordable staff housing, is a powerful tool to recruit and retain new and highly qualified staff for the school district. income is very, challenging in this area. you know, you need a high income to live in this area. and so having this below market housing really helps our staff be able to stay in this area. and many of our staff actually have been commuting in for, you know, from petaluma and

this appears to be musk making good on his threat to leave san francisco and california over political differences, the latest of which was a california policy banning school districts from notifying parents when the children change their gender identification. now, musk bought twitter in 2022. you might remember the bird came down and then the x went up. now the x is down again. according to the chronicle, since taking over x, musk battle the city over that unsanctioned x sign. also over an effort to turn empty offices into bedrooms for traveling workers. he was also sued by the landlord for not paying rent. now, x's departure is the latest blow to san francisco, which, according to real estate company cbre, has a 37% vacancy rate as of last quarter. however, the good news here is that that number seems to be stabilizing. laura. we'll see where it goes from here. thanks so much, chris. well, starting as soon as today, the parking rules are

at 8:00, at 61 degrees, and then going into the late morning into the afternoon, we're warming up to the mid 80s at noon and reaching into the mid 90s today. so it's going to be hotter than it was yesterday. we'll see those hot temperatures through at least 5:00 and then starting to quickly come back down. once that breeze picks up for the evening. but as we take a look at all of our microclimates, temperatures range from 60s to over 100 degrees. so it really just depends on your microclimate. as far as what kind of weather you'll experience today. but the south county, it's going to be one of the hotter spots in the bay area mike, you're checking out the bay bridge? yeah, we have a build up here. and then i saw a traffic report for a disabled vehicle near one of your fast lanes here near the hov lanes, and that's the side that is backing up right now. typically, it would be the middle. so i think that this disabled vehicle is kind of gumming up lanes right now. i don't know exactly which one is blocked. but here's lanes one through four actually 123 through six over here. that would be one of your left lanes.

it looks like everything on the approach is fine. now that you know about it, you can shift over to your right just a bit if you want, but it may be clear in the next couple of minutes it should be. we're still looking at a smooth drive for highway 37 and highway four. pretty predictable patterns there. and overnight we've had the construction going on. it seems to be just clearing now, coming into fairfield, out of vacaville for westbound 80, but eastbound overnight also had lane restrictions. just keep that in mind for the next week and a half over there. we also have the tiburon tiburon dock that's closed yesterday and today. and so there are bus alternates posted there on the golden gate transit website because this impacts the golden gate ferry back to you. thank you mike. well struggling to make it in the bay. still ahead here on today in the bay. the rising cost seniors are now facing the options those struggling should keep in mind to help stay afloat. plus, any minute now, vice president harris should make her own vice president. we'll have that. let's check in with our investigative reporter, candice nguyen. the santa clara county office of education is under federal review for how it

over dublin this morning and we are starting out clear compared to yesterday. it's such a different picture. we had clouds yesterday morning but it's already clearing out and temperatures will be hotter this afternoon as temperatures warm up much more quickly compared to what we had yesterday. we're headed for the low 90s here, but this is the hottest day of the week. we'll talk about a slight cooldown in our forecast coming up. oh, kerry looks at the sunlight. i look at the headlights and there's more of them coming southbound on 101 through palo alto. no surprises here. easy build a predictable build for the peninsula. the east bay does show some slowing. we'll show you where that exactly is happening as it happens. coming up. well, happening today, bay area anti-nuclear activists plan to mark 79 years since the dropping of two atomic bombs in japan, ending world war two on august 6th, 1945, the u.s. dropped the first of two atomic bombs, the first in hiroshima and then in nagasaki. the exact number of deaths has never been known, but some estimate it exceeded

200,000 deaths from both bombings. bay area demonstrators this morning plan to gather for a march outside of lawrence livermore lab, calling for an end to nuclear weapons programs. 546 any moment now, kamala harris will announce her choice for vice president today, and scott mcgrew harris and her new running mate. well, they will also hold a big rally today in pennsylvania. yeah. that's right. so pennsylvania, does the fact that it's pennsylvania mean anything? one of her possible picks, josh shapiro is, of course, governor of pennsylvania. harris said she would announce her pick no later than tuesday. and it is tuesday. i'm honestly a bit surprised she hasn't yet. keep in mind, it's almost 9 a.m. eastern time. it would make sense for her to be ready for the day's morning shows, but of course they could do that tomorrow. conventional wisdom says it's one of three men mark kelly, the astronaut and fighter pilot turned senator from arizona. he's on the left. maybe if it's not him, it would leave an easy. if it is him, it

recession. thank you very much. well, it is very hard for people to make it in the bay. we know that. and it's even getting even harder for seniors. they're looking for assisted living. one expert says bay area costs these days can range anywhere from 4000 to $20,000 a month. one recent u.s. news and world survey found nearly 1 in 3 adults know someone who ran out of money and could no longer afford their senior living situation. a similar amount have known someone who experienced issues with quality of care. the ceo of one peninsula senior placement business says getting some help can make all the difference when it comes to navigating the right path. for someone looking on their own. with so many variables, it's hard to differentiate and see, okay, where am i a good fit, and what works for my financial situation, what works for the care that i need and then my lifestyle? she says it's important to keep in mind financial assistance is often available, including medi-cal,

dina has her hands full. dina is working hard with the two girls, and he gets to be a hero. kind of how it goes sometimes. so i've heard. yeah all right. back here in the bay, a little warmer. summers hanging on. summer is definitely hanging on today, and we're going to feel hotter temperatures with the south bay under a heat advisory for this afternoon. and we can see the difference compared to yesterday. it's all clear as you're waking up and heading out. and then we also will have, because of the breezy winds, an elevated fire danger in the hills. and then we're also monitoring for those hazy skies due to wildfire smoke. we know the park fire is still going. there's numerous fires happening across the region and some of that smoke every now and then starts to move in. but as we take a look at our forecast for berkeley, we're starting out in the upper 50s and mostly cloudy will be at 62 degrees at 10:00, headed for the mid 70s. nice and very comfortable here. but then
5:54 am
as we head to the south bay, there will be already a wide range in temperatures for the afternoon. milpitas 83 and 98. in morgan hill and gilroy today. you can see upper 90s and even up to 101 today in antioch. while we will see some upper 90s for walnut creek and danville in fremont it will be 84 degrees and 78 degrees. in oakland, 73 in san mateo and san francisco, also reaching 73 downtown. while the marina district will be in the low 60s and then in the north bay up to 100, in ukiah and novato. today 91 and 71 in point reyes. so really, it just depends on where you are, your location, if you're in one of the usual hot spots, it will be hot today, but the heat will ease up just a little bit as high pressure moves away. overall, across the region we are seeing this high pressure. the main influence on whether or not we see the shift in the wind direction, if it comes in off of the ocean or if it's a really
5:55 am
brisk wind coming off of the ocean, that helps cool down the temperatures. and we'll see that happening next week. so for now in san jose, it's going to be hot. reaching into the low 90s upper 80s tomorrow. and then some mid 80s for thursday. the weekend also still pretty warm, but comfortably warm i'd say, because we're going to see low 80s on sunday and next week we're looking at some 70s for highs. so hold on for a few more days. we will be able to turn off the ac after a while. our overnight temperatures though are still helping us out because it's in the low 60s and in san francisco it's in the upper 60s low 70s all throughout the week. mike, you are tracking some progress at the bay bridge toll plaza. i was happy because i'd seen all these. the hov lanes, both of these lanes really loosened up. then, as you were talking about the temperatures in point reyes, i saw everything stop up again. i think they finally cleared the disabled vehicle from right just past the view of our camera there, over near the toll plaza itself, because everything started to move much more smoothly and actually clear from some of the
5:56 am
other lanes. don't be deceived. there will continue to be the build it's on over there. as we approach 6:00 at the bay bridge toll plaza. i believe that disabled vehicle should be clearing, so that should eliminate some of the complication. highway 37, highway four still showing your typical build a lot more traffic coming in over here. pittsburg bay point, antioch. there is a crash reported, but highway four seems to move smoothly off the antioch bridge. but more traffic, of course, you know. 242 680 heading down through walnut creek and then eventually toward danville and the dublin interchange. no surprises for this part of alameda county, contra costa county, as we talked about, moves very smoothly. let's talk about some of those speeds. vasco road is a key route and it's still only 22 minutes. that's not bad. coming out of brentwood, byron and discovery bay. back to you. thanks, mike. well, happening now, the red cross offering a new incentive to boost blood donations, donors can receive a $20 amazon gift card. the nonprofit says national blood supplies are down more than 25% since july. type o blood is especially needed. visit the red cross blood donation website to
