long term change to help our climate in crisis. a blitz through five battleground states for harris campaign with the final stop in san francisco. but not without some controversy. new claims from donald trump about harris stealing a campaign promise also all revolve. all revoir, paris final goodbye. a final look at the epic end to the summer games, with last night's closing ceremony in paris passing the torch to los angeles. this is today in the bay it's too early for friends. it's monday. good morning. we're in los angeles now. exactly how english now. good morning. hope you had a great weekend. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. let's get a look at that forecast. meteorologist kari hall, of course. been tracking what we can expect coming up. i think a nice weekend. it was a great weekend across the bay area, and it's going to be pretty much the same today. we're starting out with some low clouds over san francisco, some drizzle at times. and then eventually it's
5:02 am
going to clear up. but right now we're in the 50s across much of the bay area. even some low 50s in some spots. we're at 53 in san mateo and mid 50s for much of the north bay, upper 50s for the east bay into the afternoon. take a look at these highs reaching into the 70s for the most part for parts of the east bay down to san jose in san francisco to be in the upper 60s and low 80s in the north bay now, mike, someone in san jose might be out of gas. yeah, we hear that. there's a car struggling right here. north 680 right around mckee. the report comes in to chp saying it's stopping and going. stopping and going. it looks like they might be just on the last bit of fumes here getting off the roadway. hopefully they cleared to the right shoulder. we'll track that. we've seen no slowing in the last couple of minutes and no updates. so i'll again track that for the south bay. but all green all around the bay coming out of the altamont pass. that's where the color change is because it's a little bit of slowing as we typically expect. and then over at the bay bridge, it's no problem. the golden gate bridge, you'll have some fog

back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, look in just a few hours, tens of thousands of kids heading back to school in oakland today in the bay's bob redell joining us live this morning. and bob understand the district debuting those new electric busses to stop to help the move that helped to move the district forward. yeah. good morning to you, marcus oakland unified becoming the first school district in the united states to go fully electric with its 74 school busses. this is being provided by a school transportation company called zoom. they're based in redwood city. i'm talking about the busses are being provided by them. zoom and oakland unified will also pilot a new program in which the power stored in the batteries of those ev busses will be sold back to the california electrical grid, just like we do with excess power generated by our solar panels at home. so when the busses are plugged in back at their base, instead of the one way charge into the vehicle, the school busses will also be able to send their battery power back to the grid through zoom charging
5:04 am
infrastructure. zoom estimates that 2.1gw hours of energy can be sent back to the grid. the company's goal is to add 10,000 of these so-called bidirectional ev school busses to establish those around the united states, and then the idea would be 300gw of power back to the grid throughout the us. we recently spoke with someone with zoom. they tell us that school busses aren't fully keeping up with what families want. according to zoom's third annual survey of parents. the survey also found that parents want improvement in other areas as well. we want tech enabled solutions, 80% of parents said, i want an app. why can i track an amazon package or my uber, but not my children? and that lack of technology also really impacts reliability. 53% of parents said, you know what? my kid missed school because we didn't know whether or not the bus was coming. back to the school busses, sending power back to the grid. zoom says that

san francisco unified and los angeles unified are also expected to participate in this pilot program at some point. reporting live, bob redell today in the bay. all right, bob, thank you. also happening today, the long promised downgrade to the trauma center at san jose regional medical center, hca healthcare originally planned to close it completely, but in a compromise reached last month, the company agreed to downgrade it to a category three trauma center. one hospital spokesperson says it will continue to provide emergency services for all patients, but critics argue that the trauma services will now be to the scale of some rural hospitals, with the closest level one trauma center now miles away at valley medical. turning now to decision 2024 vice president kamala harris waking up in the nation's capitol after a visit to san francisco, capping off stops in five battleground states. her fundraiser yesterday at the fairmont hotel marked her first trip to the bay area since becoming the democratic presidential nominee. tv crews

were not allowed inside the sold out event, but many state and local leaders were there, including governor newsom and house lawmaker nancy pelosi. the campaign raised more than $12 million and left harris supporters energized. it's very exciting, all different age groups are supporting her and it just seems like there's a real momentum and a real positive energy. she'll be great and she cares and she's, you know, she's smart and she's tough. i mean, you can't be a prosecutor here like she was and not be a strong, terrific person. the vice president now preparing for next week's democratic national convention. that will be where she formally accepts the party's nomination. in the meantime, harris is actually facing some new claims from the trump campaign. it follows statements harris made at a rally saturday where she pledged to eliminate taxes on tips for service workers. later on, his truth social platform, trump accused her of copying the policy from

him. this as trump's running mate jd vance, denies republicans favor banning a key abortion drug. days after trump said he was open to it, he said it repeatedly that his goal is not to block mifepristone. it's to let states make the decision on abortion policy. it is likely this will be one of the main talking points when trump and harris face off in what's expected to be their first presidential debate on september 10th. still possible two more debates will be held before election day. 506 right now on your monday morning. a pretty spectacular sendoff to the 2024 paris olympic games. city of lights lived up to its name, bidding adieu to yesterday's closing ceremony, and that includes stanford alum katie ledecky. now, the most decorated female u.s. olympian ever, representing team usa as one of the flag bearers, joining her rower nick mead, who helped win gold as part of the men's four. now, this is the first such u.s.

medal since 1960. the closing ceremony also featured a tribute to the ancient games in athens, and it actually includes the assembling of the five olympic rings representing athletes from the five inhabited continents. for the ramparts, we like were so yes, and a daughter of the bay area vallejo native, her performing america's national anthem to mark the end of the summer games in the end of the games there in paris, as we head into the summer games in la. a-list actor tom cruise rappelling down into that stadium. if you saw that, it was pretty cool. that's where he took the olympic flag from american gymnast simone biles and l.a. mayor karen bass. his mission to bring the olympic flag to los angeles, and he did it all. mission impossible style, including jumping from an airplane. and there, that's where it happened. there you can see it part of the spectacular event there, showing the

previously filmed crews adoring the hollywood sign with the olympic rings. the ceremony also showed a glimpse of nearby long beach, where snoop dogg and doctor dre performed, and it all ended with a rendition of frank sinatra's my way, sung by french singer esyllt. la's opening ceremony, scheduled for july 14th, 2028. billie eilish was there, too. i mean, it was quite the show. it really was. my daughter was like, wait, why is he on a motorcycle? what's going on here? yeah, it was interesting. meanwhile, one olympic controversy. it is still brewing this morning. that one involving the women's gymnastics floor, bronze medalist jordan chiles kind of flip flopping like they do out there in gymnastics. it's now being offered to give back the medal back, but now team usa is certainly fighting out. so chiles plays fifth. but her coaches appealed that score and then she was boosted into third after appeal from romania, claiming the appeal came four seconds too late. they've got
5:10 am
rules. will the ioc reverse the order giving the bronze medal back to romanian gymnast ana barbosa? usa gymnastics issued a statement saying it possesses time stamped video evidence proving the inquiry was submitted on time. they're demanding, she keep both the score and the medal. a final decision may be months or even now, years away. wow. well, taking a look at the final medal count this morning after 19 days of competition, 257 american athletes stepped up on the podium for a total of 126 medals. that's the most ever for a u.s. team in a non-boycotted game. outside of the u.s, team usa tied with china for the most gold medals, with both countries winning 40 each. paris also marked the first time there's been a draw for gold medals in the summer games. all right, hard to believe it's finally it's all wrapped up. yeah let's check the forecast now. coming off a nice weekend. yes, it was
5:11 am
a nice weekend and i was just checking the forecast for paris. it's going to be 100 degrees today. so paris is like get out of here. i'm sure everyone's ready to leave now. we're going to have some nice weather for the bay area, some clouds overhead, kind of blocking our view of the perseid meteor shower that's happening this morning. and we're still going to see some clouds in pleasant hill as you're heading out, and our temperatures going from upper 50s to low 70s at noon, it's going to be another really nice day. take a look at our highs up to 71 today in fremont, 77 in dublin, a lot of 60s and 70s here and still pretty warm for some spots. and farther to the north, like ukiah and clear lake near 90 degrees but 60s in san francisco. mike, how are the gas prices looking this morning? i think some parents, some more parents might need to fill up their drive to school. so let's call out some districts, cities here. we're looking over at mountain view, the mvla school district starts with 415 at dimond gas and mart on east evelyn avenue. that's right off
5:12 am
the train tracks. we'll look at oakland, your back to school. philip best is 419 at go gas and food on mountain boulevard and sonoma county's santa rosa has 439 at golf on sonoma highway. welcome back to school for those two areas sonoma, sonoma and santa rosa. let's get out to the roadways where everything is moving very smoothly. the disabled vehicle looks like it cleared from 680 in san jose. we have your typical build out of the altamont pass and from the top of the screen, vasco road. all green on that map. that's at the minimum right here. 18 minutes from marsh creek out of contra costa county, down to 580. back to you. thanks mike. 511 right now helping clear the shelters, our annual campaign to help animals find their forever home is underway. just up. we're going to introduce you to some special pets now up for adoption and false claims about real pictures. ai making its way io thent

5:21 am
we just showed us were very cute. cute too. yeah it's coming. your time's coming. we're a little feisty. we might bite back. well, chris and marcus can go for a walk today. it's going to be a nice one, right? yeah we've had some pretty spectacular weather over across the bay area. and as we're getting started, this morning, more of the same. it's a cool start. temperatures in the low 60s in san jose and 53 in san francisco. let's get those kids ready for school this morning. for the first day. happy first day for all the students and staff going back. and it's going to be in the upper 50s or mid 50s at 7:00 as you're stepping out in oakland and at pickup time, a comfortable 65 degrees with some more sunshine, we are going to see temperatures reaching up to 68 degrees degrees again today. and mid 60s. for san francisco. we're up to 80 in napa. and looking at a high of mid 70s and even upper 70s for much of the
5:22 am
east bay. some of our warmer inland valleys like morgan hill and over toward concord and fairfield, we're going to see some mid 80s today, but that's such a big improvement from the way we started last week. and so we're going to continue to see more weather like this. maybe a degree or two warmer in some spots, like in santa rosa will be in the upper 80s. and then going into the day on wednesday, some higher 80s, up to 89 degrees and 91 in concord. so there will be a gradual warming trend through midweek. and then the temperatures start to come down. so what's happening here is we're seeing the high pressure coming back dominating across the region. but by the end of the week into the weekend, there will be a cooler weather pattern coming in with this low. that's going to push in some cooler temperatures all across the bay area we're starting out with some mid 80s now, headed for the upper 80s and then back down as we go into the weekend. and overall, we're not seeing anything significant here that we're concerned about, but it will be breezy at times. and temperatures in san

francisco in the upper 60s. mikey spotted something on the bay bridge, saw some flashing lights with the help of benny and our operations center, he lined it up right here. there was a set of blue lights that just left very quickly heading towards san francisco, but another set of these red flashing lights arrived. it looks like there's still chp to help out with the folks there. i think there's a tow truck as well. let's watch very closely. maybe some movement. it looks like there's a backup now forming over the last couple of minutes though, they may have blocked the far right lane as they're trying to help a vehicle. turns out there was an earlier car fire. i don't know if they can move that vehicle or if they still have to take care of anything that may be smoldering, overheated. we'll track that. that is going to cause some more slowing in toward the city out of oakland. but no major impact just yet. typical slowing for 3537 and highway four. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. you might call this one a scene straight out of a comedy film, but it's really not funny for neighbors still ahead on today in the bay, the late night chaos being

cars in the parking lot there. parking for the night and a south, south of market lot there. so the problem is that other nearby robo taxis honk in response. all of that neighbors say that it started just a few weeks ago. and the real witching hour usually happens right around four in the morning. the cars are robotic and they're honking at each other, and there's no one in the cars when it's happening. and that's absurd. interesting. okay so in a statement, waymo is saying that it is aware of the cars are briefly honking while navigating the lot. it's now identified the cause with a fix. now in the process of being implicated. wow. that's crazy i mean it's kind of funny, but horrible for those neighbors. yeah. honk, honk at four in the morning unless you work the morning shift. well, they should get up and just watch today in the bay. and that's a late alarm for us. right. all right. coming up next

5:32 am
i'm laura garcia. so let's start out with a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall, you're tracking what we can expect. yes. while the coffee still brewing, we have some nice, cool weather. this morning, and we are going to see things clearing out for the inland valleys a lot sooner than what we'll see for the coastal areas. happy first day of school for the kids in santa rosa today you're heading out to some jacket weather. it's in the low 50s and at drop off time it's going to be a cool start, but look at how nice and comfortable it's going to be at pick up time in the mid 70s. nice and sunny there. we'll see a high of 82 in santa rosa. while input much of the east bay. we're in the 70s and low 80s. the warmest spots will be in concord, reaching 8484 as well in gilroy and we're looking at some low 80s for los gatos. but overall, this is kind of the same weather we had over the weekend. so it's not over just yet. we'll talk about a gradual warm up in our forecast in a few minutes. and mike, you're tracking a car fire on the bay
5:33 am
bridge. yeah. still tracking that car fire coming toward me out of san francisco there is slowing, even though this is supposedly on the right hand shoulder and out of lanes. it's enough of a distraction and folks are shifting over one lane to the left, which you should do to give the crew on scene a little bit of room. it sounds like there may be a tow truck there to assist, but there was also a chp cruiser that arrived, and so that's probably what caused the shift in traffic over the last few minutes after you pass that scene. no major issues and not a major backup there. slowing up the incline, though, as we have the build out of the oakland side. and so that will combine to cause more slowing and likely the metering lights in the next couple of seconds, which they should be turned on in the next few minutes. anyway. a smooth drive outside of that throughout the east bay. typical builds for highway four. highway 37, and no major issues anywhere south of there. the south bay. we do have that little bit of slowing we typically see on 101 as you approach oakland road. back to you. thanks, mike. 533 right now, as students return to school, there may be a buzz about possible cell phone bans. while some california schools
5:34 am
prohibit or limit cell phone use during the day, governor gavin newsom wants to make it an official policy for the state's 5.5 million public school students today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us with more on the way. one district is handling all of this also. ai in the classroom. you know, that's a big talker as well. so there's no question that cell phones are a tremendous distraction. according to a survey by the advocacy group common sense media, 9,697% of teens say that their cell phones they use their cell phones during the day, 72% of high school teachers and 33% of middle school teachers said that cell phone is a major distraction and a major problem in the classroom. now, california would not be the first to ban cell phone use during the school day. a florida, indiana, louisiana, south carolina they have all banned phones during class or during the school day outright, and a handful of other states have policies that they are currently piloting or exploring in the san ramon valley school
5:35 am
district, though, we talked to the superintendent and he says banning technology outright might not be the best long term strategy in our digital world. and he said that that's true of eyes as ai as well. i think we need to help our students long term build skills and responsibilities for digital citizenship and appropriate use of technology, whether that's through cell phones or social media or in in the coming years, artificial intelligence and the many facets that will come along with that important work as well. so the concern, of course, not just about distraction with the cell phones, those phones can also be used for bullying, to videotape fights or even organize fights and sexual exploitation. so that's not exclusive to cell phone use. we know that the kids can find other ways to do it. they have tablets at school, they have their laptops issued by the school so the schools can monitor some of that. but, you know, like the superintendent said, sometimes you have to just teach them how to use it wisely.
5:36 am
very true. and every, every school, it's different ways that they're enforcing it. right. and it can be really expensive. i mean, there are lock boxes. you've probably been to restaurants where you have to hand over your cell phone. i went to a back to school night last year, and one of the teachers just had a shoe caddy. you know, the ones that you buy $10. and they just my kids have had put it in there and you don't use it during the day. and i thought the kids were going to push back. and the teacher was like, no, they're fine with it. well, they have rules in the classroom, which is good to see too. but as a parent, should something happen, i want to be able to get a hold of my kids. that's true. but there are also parents who are texting their kids during school. yeah. you know, which is which is not okay either. right. and it's got to find a balance. i mean, we just have it's such a habit, right? yeah. all right. thanks kris. well, as soon as today, the man charged in the half moon bay shooting rampage, a year and a half ago may receive a trial date earlier this year. truly zao pleaded not guilty to new grand jury charges in january of 2023. investigators say he shot

by san francisco da brooke jenkins today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco with a look at what comes next. well, good morning, laura and marcus. arrest warrants have been issued for each of those protesters, and supporters of the 26 pro-palestinian supporters say they will rally this morning to condemn the decision by san francisco's district attorney. now you might remember back in april of this year, protesters who appeared to be acting in coordination with other demonstrations nationwide blocked the golden gate bridge during the morning commute in an effort to protest the war in gaza. we were there that morning as a protest brought traffic to a standstill. commuters stranded by the protesters reportedly missed work. school flights and even critical surgeries. over the weekend, the san francisco da's office announced charges. eight people are charged with one count of felony conspiracy, while 18 have been charged with misdemeanor conspiracy. all are

facing 38 counts of false imprisonment, unlawful assembly, among other charges. the da says everyone has a right to protest, but no one has a right to prevent the free movement of others. last year, on november 16th, protesters also took over the bay bridge during the apec summit here in san francisco, 80 people were arrested and almost 30 vehicles towed. 78 protesters were eventually ordered to do five hours of community service and pay restitution fees to avoid criminal proceedings. now that rally is scheduled for 8 a.m. this morning with a 9 a.m. press conference to follow. that's happening at the california highway patrol office here in san francisco. we'll bring you the latest on that on air and online at nbcbayarea.com. guys, back to you. good to know, ginger. thank you. 539 right now, competition at the paris olympic games goes out with a bang and one last goal for the red, white and blue united states of america. nice

well, the question is, what is next? well, i think we all know los angeles coming up now. we are only 1433 days away from the 2028 summer olympic games in la. want to give you a live look in la over at lax this morning? and of course, while we wait for the 2028 olympics to arrive, the winter games will take place in italy. but in the last night ceremony there, that closing ceremony. la took charge there, leading the way. superstar tom hanks there speeding. tom cruise i mean i say, tom that's okay. tom cruise, because i'm looking down and i'm like, yes, that is tom cruise. yeah, he really seemed to be everywhere. you saw him there at the national stadium there in paris, and then he was all the way in la right there. and you see what he did right there. he took the hollywood sign, turning the o's there into the olympic rings. our sister station spoke with the chairman of hollywood sign trust about what went into staging all of this, which actually happened back in march. normally, when there's filming
5:42 am
done up here, no one is allowed to touch the hollywood sign. this was the first time that the hollywood sign was actually touched. you can't touch the hollywood. let tom cruise touch the hollywood sign. well, if any. if you know the guy that represents hollywood, if he if he's not privileged to touch the sign, who is? yeah. i was like, i'm glad that all gated off. but yeah, it's tom cruise, of course. well it turns out that until that stunt aired yesterday, all media members were barred from talking about it or even airing any of the video. never too early, really, to talk about what will be new for the l.a. games there. how about obstacle racing? it'll actually debut and some argue it is dated pentathlon event, which is doing away with the horse element, and it's going to include fencing, swimming and laser pistol shooting. also new for you flag football and squash. meanwhile, baseball and softball will each return along
5:43 am
with cricket and lacrosse sixes. plus, now anyway, a goodbye to breaking at the next summer games. a lot of fun. 542 right now, here we are on a monday morning sun coming up over the bay area that looks like a nice start to our day overlooking downtown san jose. kerry's got a look at our forecast. nice and cool. clear in some spots across the bay area. we're in the low 60s in san jose. that's one of the warmer spots compared to the 50s. we're seeing elsewhere. as you step out the door and happy first day of school for the kids in mountain view and los altos. it will be in the low 60s at 8:00, and as we go throughout the day, warming up into the mid 70s, a really perfect day. hopefully it's a nice one for all of the students and staff. we're going to see highs in the mid 80s for concord, while in oakland it stays in the 60s today, 80 in napa, and we can still see the wide range in temperatures. but overall even our inland valleys are feeling
5:44 am
some cooler weather into the next few days. we're going to see temperatures coming up just a few degrees, with highs in the mid to upper 80s in the north bay, and heads up for bart riders. you may need to adjust your timing. today. bart is making some minor schedule adjustments, and mike joins us with the bigger picture for those. good morning kerry. yeah, we're talking about minor changes. so why? well, you know what bart periodically does this to just fine tune the schedule today. one goal is to allow for ridership to spread more evenly throughout their lines. folks on the antioch and pittsburg lines might have noticed some trains have cars that are packed, and others are very sparsely populated. so you got to check those bart schedules and the overhead signs you'll see at the stations. but those are again, minor changes. you might also notice, though, other transit agencies are also talking about making their changes. the schedule two. this is all trying to better align their collective timing. so when bart has a schedule change the very same time, ac transit and vta and county connection, they'll
5:45 am
adjust their bus schedules so that the everything times up as perfectly as possible. or the very famous millbrae station bart to caltrain. we've been working really hard to make it, so it's even better when you go from one train to another. each agency is working very closely together, and we're trying to sync up our schedule changes to be twice a year at the same exact time. that's right. millbrae. not quite as famous as tom cruise, but you know, still, folks know about that station and the big change up in there between the agencies. now, the bay area's 27 agencies are part of this coordinated effort. not all of them, but most of them are semiannual schedules are tweaked and alicia estimates they should have the remaining of those 27 agencies on board for the next schedule adjustment in january. now, again, as we mentioned, this is all a coordinated effort by the transit agencies to make things easier and quicker to use transit. and for the handoff between the agencies all across and around the bay area. back to

going to be a really nice day in san jose, starting out with temperatures in the low 60s and partly cloudy. lots of sunshine as our highs head for the mid 70s at pickup time. we'll get a look at all of our microclimates for this week as more kids head back to school. more coming up. all right. franklin mckinley in the south bay over here. we're talking about maybe some folks leaving oakland. piedmont both starting school this week. this today as well. but the backup started earlier than you might expect. it's not because of the volume, though. it's because of an issue on the span. we'll take another look at that update, see how that car fire is going. coming up. thanks, karen. mike. well, donald trump says he wants to end taxes on tips scott mcgrew. vice president kamala harris actually heard that and said that's not a bad idea. not a bad idea. she they're both trying, after all, to win the state of nevada. right. and
5:50 am
nevada's largest city is las vegas. and people can make a lot of tips. now, trump was the first to suggest ending the federal tax on tips. and now harris is saying the exact same thing during her visit over the weekend. those who want to balance the budget are alarmed by the idea, because it would mean less income for the government and keep in mind, presidents don't decide who's taxed and who is not congress. does. the two candidates are also very nonspecific. do they mean income tax, payroll tax? we don't have any detail. the harris campaign tells us it will unveil harris's general economic plan this week, and a new financial times poll, by the way, shows more people trust harris than trump on the economy, though those numbers are within the margin of error. the trump campaign, meantime, may have been hacked. politico was the first to report it because politico reporters were approached with material a tipster said were part of the trump's campaign. internal documents about vice presidential candidate j.d.
5:51 am
vance, a spokesperson for the campaign blames a foreign power, says it's trying to interfere with our elections. microsoft security says it did detect a hack but won't say which one of the campaigns the trump campaign is not, to our knowledge, reported the hack to law enforcement. you remember, russian hackers were able to access internal documents from the democratic national committee during the 2016 election. at the time, trump vocally encouraged the release of democrats secrets. i will tell you this, russia, if you're listening, i hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. i think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. vice president harris was in san francisco over the weekend, raising money for her campaign, capped off a whirlwind campaign of battleground states including wisconsin, michigan, nevada, arizona and, of course,
5:52 am
pennsylvania, where she introduced her running man running mate tim walz. walz will campaign on his own in southern california this week. that's a safe state for democrats. california trump can paint in montana a safe state for him, where he lamented losing biden as a competitor. he wanted to debate if we didn't have a debate, he'd still be there. can you imagine if we didn't have a debate? how did he do? do you think he's happy with it? i don't think so. he's not too happy, you know. they took it away from him. they really did. they took it away. from president biden for the first time since he decided to step away from the race, which, by the way, was just three weeks ago. although i it's a great honor being president. i think i have an obligation to the country to do what i the most important thing to do, and that is we must we must we must defeat trump. president biden will announce a new effort today called time is money a push by the white house to get companies
5:53 am
gyms for instance, to make it easier for you to cancel. the white house points out, making something difficult to cancel, not an accident. the new rules would insist it be as easy to cancel something as it is to sign up for it. laura. good point. it is 552 right now. the breaking community is defending one of its olympians. you like this video? i like is a stretch, but i do enjoy watching it. her performance in the competition has been going viral. this is also becoming the target to some online trolls. take a look. okay, so what you're looking here, this is actual performance during the olympic games. yes breaking. if you could see kari and mike dancing. okay, so breaking made its olympic debut this year at the paris olympics. so the woman we're looking at that is b-girl regan. she's from australia. she scored zero
5:54 am
points for her performance. yeah. with many on social media making fun of her moves there. and if you're looking at it, you might say, okay i get why. okay. so yesterday, the head judge of the competition defended b-girl regan, calling her quote, original. that's true. she's original to her. but i think like this is the debut of breaking right? so used to stay true to the original form. well that's true. that's like me going like i'm going to run the 100 meter, but i'm just going to roll right? i'm going to crawl before you walk. that's good. let's keep in mind that breaking will not be coming down. yeah. it was. i'm sorry i cut you off, laura. no no no, no, i just feel like that's what i would do for my kids in the living room going, hey, guys, this is what breakdancing is. sunny right at one point, i thought she was doing a tribute to the australian animals. possibly it could have been interpretive. look, see, watch the interpretive dance. see? that should be. now, if it was interpretive dance, i would say this is perfect. see right there for her on stage. that was a move. i do have to admit, i did
5:55 am
not compete in the olympics in breaking. so she's better than i am. but you could have. i wonder, is it one of those things where, you know, you get in front of everybody and you're like, i'm nervous. so i'm. carey why don't you hop on over and do your weber? i am speechless, the sprinkler kari. but she got more attention than the gold medalist. let's just say that's true. exactly okay, let's move on. we are starting out with some beautiful weather as we take a live look outside in dublin this morning, and the kids are dancing back to school today. we're starting out with some cool temperatures in oakland. it's going to be mostly cloudy in the mid 50s and partly cloudy. a really nice day at pickup time. windows down. it's going to be so comfortable as the kids are heading out and we'll see temperatures there in the upper 60s. low seconds for fremont and some mid 80s for the
5:56 am
south county today, and inland east bay in the north bay, mostly some upper 70s and low 80s for highs. and then tomorrow just a touch warmer, we will be on a warming trend for a lot of the inland areas and even along the coastline we'll see it go from 60s to low 70s, so not as much of a significant change, but the 90s will be back midweek as high pressure moves in across the region. eventually a low will be dropping down near the coast and this will change things for the weekend, bringing in a stronger breeze. and it's going to be nice in spots like walnut creek, you won't feel it as much. we're going from the start of the week in the low 80s to some mid to upper 80s, and then look at our extended forecast. we will see those temperatures going up and then back down. but the changes very subtle and we'll see those slightly warmer temperatures midweek. but then cooling down just in time for the weekend. laura marcus sounds good. thank you gary. well happening now we're learning new details about a death of a humpback whale at fort funston, san francisco,
