but you know what you got? what, coach? a crumb bum attitude! now drop and give me twenty! twenty what? flex alert! flex alert! a power outage is looming. that's just alert, he's always getting worked up about something. flex alerts notify us of preventable power outages. that way we always know when to help stop one. ok flex, just drop some knowledge on me again. oh, ok i will - i'll turn our thermostat to 78... i'll unplug the blender. the hair dryer. - my blankie? - yep! - let's talk about it! - nope. ooo, we can save the laundry til' the morning! oh, yes please! oh! little things like this help save our power and help save us from outages. with flex alerts, the power is ours. school district as students start a new year and we have a new push to stop your kids from picking up e-cigarettes. also, a

5:02 am
for the afternoon, we'll be in the upper 80s for santa rosa and low 80s as we go into the day for dublin and moraga, san jose in the upper 70s with upper 80s in the south county. and the next couple of days we're looking at much more of the same temperatures. and mike, you are seeing some slowing already on the sensors through fremont. yeah, because folks, if you're watching now, you're so early that some folks are just finishing their overnight road work coming in toward this area. we see these speeds moving fine as far as the visual on our cameras just north of tesla. same area. the speed sensors coming south into the area had slowing up to about three minutes ago. and northbound we're seeing the last of those sensors start to clear coming out of milpitas as well. so both directions. it looks like the overnight road were cleared without any problem. right on schedule there. the south bay moving well, the peninsula no delays. 84 should restore back from the overnight work there a. well. getting over toward the bay bridge. no real problems. a smooth drive through contra costa and alameda counties. back

over to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, new overnight evacuations are now lifted in the north bay. this is following a vegetation fire started around 1115 last night in novato. this is near the rush creek housing development along atherton avenue. now forward. progress was stopped about five acres. the evacuation orders were lifted around 130 this morning. firefighters are still there at the scene monitoring for those hotspots. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. now this fire happened not far from another brush fire, which broke out in the rural part of novato yesterday. this one started before five yesterday morning and marinwood area. now it's burned a total of 18 acres. crews say 34 year old colin crook later admitted to starting that fire after he was detained by investigators. he is facing multiple charges. 503a brand new east bay superintendent will be working to move his district forward as a new school year starts today in the bay's bob redell joining us live from san ramon valley unified school district this morning. and bob,
5:04 am
what would you say is the biggest challenge this new superintendent is facing? a future budget shortfall of roughly $16.5 million. good morning to you, marcus and laura. we're outside coyote creek elementary here in san ramon, one of the many schools here in the san ramon valley unified school district. our colleague kris sanchez spoke to that new superintendent, c.j. cammack, who just took over as superintendent of this school district. he comes here from fremont unified, where he held the same position. superintendent karma says san ramon valley will be solvent this school year, but will face some very difficult financial challenges next school year. in 20 2526, when the district will have to make up $16.5 million in reductions through reductions, reductions that he and his staff will spend this year trying to identify. we are definitely seeing some financial challenges based on how the state had miscalculated or mis projected
5:05 am
their total revenue for the year last year, and districts across the state, including san ramon valley unified school district, are dealing with that burden of having to address the shortfall in revenue that's coming forward from the state. and so we will have many challenges in front of us to identify how we can reduce our expenditures without negatively impacting student programs and our personnel. so, yes, enrollment is declining in san ramon valley unified. like it is in many other california school districts. but superintendent cammack says school closures are not on his radar right now. as you're well aware, other districts in the bay area have already closed schools because of declining enrollment. reporting live here in san ramon, bob redell today in the bay as kids head back to school, all of their school supplies may not be what they seem. the fda is warning manufacturers to stop making

superintendent tony thurman hosting a housing summit. the topics of discussion include new housing, to how speed up construction, and paying for it. the superintendent championed a new plan to develop 2.3 million units of housing on 75,000 acres of land owned by school districts across the state. the summit will also focus on how to take advantage of about $500 million in available state tax credits. that meeting is taking place in sacramento. make sure you stay with us here on today in the bay all week long for all of your back to school coverage. if you miss any of it, you can catch up wherever you stream. nbc bay area streams 24/7 on roku, pluto and other platforms. now to a live look in sfo. that's where late last night, passengers aboard one united flight headed to rome ended up back where they started following an emergency landing in sacramento. two passengers shared video with our crew, shot from the air and then back on the ground. now passengers,

according to them. anyway, the pilot shut down one of the engines shortly after taking off yesterday afternoon. they then dumped the plane's fuel and eventually landed safely in sacramento. passengers say they were rattled but relieved after they landed like crazy. i never seen that before, but just dumping fuel. and so then the pilot came on the air and said over the intercom and said that they shut the right engine down. and so because of an engine oil valve heat temperature sensor, it was film that was overheated. scary, right? well, united is not commenting on the mechanical issues, but the airline is now working to rebook all of those passengers who want to take now to a live look in san francisco this morning. this is where a group of rv dwellers have now moved out. brand new video overnight showing that some rvs have already relocated more than 20 families. they had been living there and their rvs along zoo road. this is near the san

5:10 am
expected to strengthen over the next couple of days into a hurricane, but staying mostly out into the open atlantic. but this may give bermuda a very dangerous situation, with the possibility of a category two hurricane moving into that area between friday and early saturday. so we'll be watching out for that with the impact of some very heavy amounts of rainfall. storm surge of 1 to 3ft and winds at about 30 to 70mph. so that main impact will be over puerto rico. but we'll see what it does as it moves closer to bermuda. here at home, we're looking at some fairly quiet weather. temperatures ranging from mid 60s in half moon to bay mid 70s for oakland, and then low 90s for concord. we will notice that some of our valleys today will be slightly warmer compared to yesterday. just a degree or two, but we'll be tracking a cooldown. a slight one for the weekend. we'll talk
5:11 am
more about that coming up in a few minutes. but mike, you're seeing those gas prices still fairly high around the bay area. yeah. southern california has the most of the advantage on the price points today. but a lot of schools coming online a couple dozen. so we'll call out some like santa rosa. santa rosa got a number of school districts and they're low. there is 4.39 if you fill up as you're heading to or from school. golf on sonoma highway will call that one out for 4.39. number of districts in santa rosa. in fact, starting today, san mateo county redwood city has the best with 3.99 at central gas on broadway in the middle. and then at the bottom we have listed alameda county, fremont unified school district will give the gold star to star gas on grimmer boulevard. 3.95. we help. we hope you help by making your report here on gasbuddy.com. on the roadway, we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic right now. really easy right now. we still have a few weeks to sort out the morning commute patterns, but we're looking right here. there is a crash reported at 101 near seminary. no injuries, but it's still on the grid. but then at the bottom of the screen, south 101 does have slowing heading

down just south of the robin williams tunnel. i can't see it from our camera that normally would show that area because there's fog, low clouds around the golden gate bridge. so that's another note. i don't think there's a crash south of the robin williams tunnel. it's just your typical crew. i believe. back to you. thanks, mike. local transit at the ballgame. next on today in the bay. the unique celebration for bart at tonight's oakland ballers home game. plus, what would if you lost your job? and then pretty much the whole world celebrated over it happened to a guy at starbucks. well, spiking your favorite fall spice. we're going to tell you about the new limited edition drink dunkin is launching just as fall approaches. stay with us. you're watching

this is going to surprise you. saint louis fed has examined millennials bank accounts, real estate holdings overall value and says millennials, people between 27 and 44 have more net worth at this point in their lives than baby boomers or gen xers did at their age. on average, 25% more wealth. the wall street journal also covered this report, and i like how their reporters put it. millennials are now wealthier than previous generations were at that age. they can't believe it either. it kind of makes sense though. they're making so much more money. they are making so much more money. and the older millennials got in on the real estate and saw the biggest jump in real estate in history, especially in the bay area. so we think of them as struggling. but at least according to saint louis fed. faster. well doing quite well. all right. thanks, scott. you bet. 518 for you this morning. happening tonight. bart night at the oakland ballers game and special guests. the bart mobile, along with the

5:21 am
few more low 90s for spots like concord and antioch near the coast. we're back to the mid 60s and 60s in san francisco. you may notice that it is a little bit more windy today compared to the past couple of days, and we're not looking at many more changes here, just a slight cooldown in some areas. but a lot of our valleys really won't feel that. heading into next week and mike, it's wednesday. how's the traffic looking? it's looking pretty wednesday ish. we have a smooth drive, green sensors dominate the map. as you would expect at 520, almost 521. a little slowing for 84 coming through pleasanton into sunol over there. all of the altamont pass continues to build off of 205 and 580 as they merge over in toward the bay area. looking at a smooth flow, there is that first slowing. we expect on highway 37. no surprises there. a blip on highway four and the bill for 242. so contra costa county is starting to warm up as we expect no problems across that bay bridge. low clouds just touch the tops of the towers.

that once boasted about being a $100 million company, told consumer investigator chris gilmore, it's going belly up. kris anchored tiny homes ceo said it is too late for reorganization, and his family run company is now exploring bankruptcy. that leaves a lot of bay area homeowners who prepaid for adu construction in a costly lurch. construction suddenly stopped in the yards of people like maria in walnut creek and katy in san leandro. they were paying hefty amounts following their payment schedules on time, but then subcontractors walked off the job because they said the main contractor anchored tiny homes, stopped paying them. that's when i lost it, because

we when we're invoiced, we pay them right away. i don't know where my money went online. droves of angry customers spoke up. now the company is shutting down anchored tiny homes. ceo colton paulus contacted me. he declined to speak on camera, but shared this letter saying anchored tiny homes and its franchise arm have suspended operations and are currently evaluating bankruptcy options. he went on to say, our intention is to file personal chapter seven bankruptcy for all officers of the company. so what happens next? generally, the u.s. bankruptcy court ends up selling assets to pay back creditors. homeowners that we talked to are eager to line up in hopes of getting their money back. but they are not the only ones. we searched state corporate records and found more than half a dozen lenders just filing liens on anchored, tiny homes for money. the builder owes them, too. so where did all of this money go in this supposed $100 million firm? one

yeah. clever. yeah. you know, good wednesday to you. i'm marcus washington. and i'm laura garcia. let's start out with a look at the forecast. top of the morning to meteorologist kari hall, tracking what we can expect. it's going to be another really nice day across the bay area. starting out cool and comfortably warm across much of the bay area for the afternoon. and we're going to see those temperatures as you step out within the next few minutes. in the 50s and 60s. we're at 62 right now in walnut creek, while palo alto is at 59. happy first day of school for the kids in san mateo. it's going to be partly cloudy at drop off time, and they may be wearing the jacket even when you pick them up, it will be in the upper 60s there, but nice and sunny. overall a comfortable day and our temperatures range from 60s to all the way up to 92 degrees. and we'll see that in vacaville and in fairfield later today. mike, you have a concern for some drivers crossing over the bay. yeah. if you're using the richmond-san rafael bridge, i'm watching for any crews coming
5:32 am
across. haven't seen any flashing lights coming toward us, but they would be heading toward mid-span across the bridge. reports of a crash. one vehicle sideways, across one lane doesn't sound like any major injuries, but they are asking for some assistance. the richmond fire department is heading across as well, so you'll see flashing lights. we see slowing in one lane blocked right now. mid span in your commute direction. we'll continue to track this. hopefully it clears quickly. chp is on the way over on that scene. meanwhile, the rest of your morning commute shows pretty standard slowing for highway 437 and the build starting as you approach toward the bay bridge but no backup yet. no metering lights. we're looking at a smooth flow anywhere south of there. san jose starts that first burst as well. 101 right around oakland road. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, new overnight for you. five people recovering this after a multi-vehicle crash in the south bay. it happened on southbound 101 north of marsden in san martin. gilroy area. now, cal fire says that they used the jaws of life after two of those victims became trapped in one of the three vehicles involved. a

total of three people were taken to the hospital. chp saying that one person suffered major injuries. the other two are expected to be okay. at least one of the people involved in the crash left the scene. the cause is still under investigation. new this morning. it looks like rv dwellers on one san francisco street are choosing not to stick around to see if the city follows through on threats to tow their vehicles. they faced a midnight deadline to clear out today. the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us this morning. you're near the zoo, ginger. okay. it looks pretty clear behind you, but is anyone still there? no, you're absolutely right. good morning, marcus and laura. it is pretty clear behind us. you can see this. there's. there are no rvs left on the street. you can just see kind of the signs that were posted notifying them of that midnight deadline. as you mentioned, we are on zoo road near san francisco zoo with no rvs left this morning. now, several hours ago, this is what
5:34 am
it looked like. this is some video that was shot around midnight. that was the deadline given for rvs to leave zoo road or else risk being towed. there were only two remaining rvs left at that time, and they are no longer around as well. now things look much different compared to weeks past, when dozens of rvs lined the street. and what's left now, as i mentioned, just those signs posted by the city giving rv dwellers notice. now, the clearing was supposed to end at midnight, but it began before that. this was the scene yesterday, around early evening when all the uncertainty of being evicted from this space really sank in. for people that have been living here, diana herrera and five family members live in one rv together. moore of her relatives in another. she says she understands they need to move, but they do not know where they are going. before zoo road, her family's rvs were parked near san francisco state for eight months. they were kicked out from there a few weeks ago. now, the option
5:35 am
yesterday was move or get towed, but there may be more options for herrera's family, as well as the almost two dozen families living on zoo road, about 60 folks total, with the kids included. so that's that's how many we have helped. not everybody is accepting the rapid rehousing because, you know, it's a subsidy. so it's not it's not supportive housing. it's not permanent. now, homeless advocates say all the uncertainty is especially difficult for families, and it is the city's responsibility to prioritize their well-being. now, we mentioned before zoo road, some of some of the families were parked near san francisco state, and we have checked around that area. rvs have not returned there as well. in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay. all right, ginger, thank you. east palo alto will soon join bay area cities clearing camps for the unhoused. mayor antonio lopez plans to hold a news
5:36 am
conference later today outlining the city's plans, while calling on other peninsula cities to follow suit. the action follows an executive order issued by governor gavin newsom calling on california counties to take down encampments on state property. the news conference is set for 11:00 this morning. well, happening today. san francisco police chief bill scott will be joining a grieving mother to mark 18 years since the unsolved murder of her 17 year old son. now, 2006, a gunman shot and killed aubrey, nebraska. and it happened outside of the home at grove and baker streets. this is near the panhandle. in the wake of his death, his mother led the drive to install digital poster boards. this is an sfpd lobbies and post information and rewards tied to unsolved cases. today, she plans to hand out fliers at the intersection where her son died. also today, richmond council members will consider approving a refinery tax ballot measure in exchange for a half $1 billion settlement deal with
5:37 am
chevron. in june, the council voted to place the measure on the fall ballot. today is the deadline to pull it back. the potential settlement would include chevron paying the city $550 million over ten years. supporters say would likely save years of expensive legal battle. tax proponents, meantime say chevron should have to pay for the added environmental threats. threats chevron believes it is not at fault for. a special hearing is scheduled for noon. well, just into our newsroom. the latest word on inflation.ews right now. and, scott, we were expecting some good news and we got it. so year over year inflation 2.9%, down from 3%. remember the fed is looking for a 2% inflation rate. inflation is actually good at a certain level. the fed thinks 2% is right there. we got 2.9 now month over month. we're up 2/10 of a percent. that's exactly as we expected. it does look as if we are getting inflation
5:38 am
continuing to get inflation under control. now remember what was it last friday or two fridays ago. we got kind of weak jobs numbers between the good inflation numbers and the weak jobs numbers. it does seem like the fed will make cuts at its next meeting. that comes in september. guys, the question is how much? that's what i was quarter point or half a point. i think a lot of people are now leaning towards a half a point. remember, this does not directly affect your credit card and mortgage rates. it definitely indirectly does. so it all comes down eventually. yeah that was going to be my big question, because i know a lot of folks are wondering now, like, okay, is what i'm thinking of buying a home. what is the interest rate going to look? and as we have said, and we've gotten a lot of viewer reaction on this, remember, we're never going back to 2%. i know, you know, i saw ever, ever, ever or unless, you know, something disastrous happens which we don't, but at least they can come down. i saw an interesting meme the other day. it showed a king sitting on a throne, and all those people that refinanced back in, you know? yeah, yeah, i guess total
5:39 am
general interest rates. it's so interesting. we were just talking about the millennials, how they bought homes, you know, so they got these great interest rates. so they think that's like the norm. yes and yes. they think a 2% is the norm and they're very lucky if they got it. but remember our parents generation. 17%, 17% of these home interest rates. so i saw a show that was set back in the 80s. and then the real estate agent said, well, you know, interest rates are down to 9%. and i was thinking like, yeah, i was like, but i was like, oh, wait. 80s, 80s. different time, different price tags too. for those homes for sure. thank you scott. you bet. all right. it's 5.38 for you this morning. taking a live look in san jose. the weather. yeah. how is that going to shape up? well, beautiful sights, kari. but how the temperature is going to feel for us. well, if you liked yesterday, you'll like today. we're basically settling into this pattern where every day is pretty much the same for your microclimates. widely ranging if you're traveling from one spot to the next, where we're starting out with temperatures in the mid 60s and los gatos, but we're in the mid 50s across

much of the rest of the bay area and then as we go into the afternoon, it's going to warm up significantly. happy first day of school for the kids in santa rosa. we're going from upper 50s in the morning to upper 80s today. so you'll need the layers for the changing temperatures. we'll see as we go. hour by hour. we'll be watching out for this. we'll take a look ahead to the weekend coming up. and mike, you're still tracking a delay crossing the bay. yeah. if you're leaving richmond, you can't see the change over here at the toll plaza because there are no metering lights to meter traffic across that bridge. take note if you travel out of richmond and cross on 580, there's still that crash with a car sideways blocking one lane. both lanes going across that commute direction mid-span really starting to jam up toward the toll plaza right now. now, this may cause some folks to choose differently in the morning, heading north over highway 37, which looks like a standard flow out of vallejo, we're tracking that. meanwhile, others might head south to the bay bridge and we don't have any excessive traffic there, but we may notice a shift over the next
5:41 am
15 to 20 minutes. we'll keep following that. meanwhile, a typical slowing for highway four. nothing major right there in toward walnut creek. now we're looking ahead at the traffic flow. we're looking at another game tonight, oracle park, the giants again playing tonight. this is the third of four games. tomorrow will be mid day i believe we'll double check on that. meanwhile a lot of schools coming online as carey has been talking about. we have san mateo county a couple of school districts within their redwood city belmont watch. there over here in the east bay, we have fremont unified as well as san ramon, south bay. los altos comes online as well for the elementary schools, but right now we have typical slowing for 101. back to you. thanks so much, mike. well, a far reaching plan to boost critical housing for the bay area may suddenly be on life support. well, coming up for you this morning. make or break. meeting happening today that will likely decide its fate. and in our state, the biggest, most polluting fleets of trucks have to go zero emission by next yea. what are your options? we're
5:42 am
going to show you some of the coolest things hitting the roads right away. also, talk about a man of many talents. america's breakout gymnastics star in paris is showing off one of his other skills. and if they awarded medals, he may just win one for this, too. you'll want to see it stick arod. you're watchiunng

kids wake up for the first day of school in fremont. a drop off time. it will be 60 degrees and nice and cool to start out the day. a lot of sunshine. temperatures at pickup will be in the mid 70s and looking at a wide range in our microclimates. that continues and we'll take a look coming up in a few minutes. you might want to put that into the go cup though if you're looking at some of your crossings. the bay bridge does show the backup. we kind of expect it to start showing up about now might be a little more severe because the richmond to san rafael bridge has an issue. a crash on the span may force some folks to choose this bridge, making your drive out of oakland slower as well. we'll track the changes and the ripple. thanks so much, kari and mike. it is 5:45 right now when it comes to combating our climate in crisis. zero emission vehicles are always considered key. but today, the next wave of electric work trucks, off road equipment and transit busses are taking center stage in oakland. today in the bay's kris sanchez
5:46 am
live for us outside of the arena this morning and kris, dozens of companies here are getting the chance to shine. reporter. yeah. up to 40 companies here are showing up their wares for zero emissions vehicles. and we're not talking about the small vehicles that we drive when we hit the roadways. these are vehicles that are used for business and transit. and i have tom brotherton here from calista to talk about what's new, what's exciting, what's happening. so we've got 59 trucks and pieces of off road equipment here today. this is the calstart and california air resources board zero emissions truck showcase and ride and drive. so we've invited about 600 fleet operators to come here today, kick the tires and drive these trucks, get a feel for how they are. and it's all trucks. so we've got everything from the smaller trucks. you might expect to see on the roads, small vans, all the way up to the largest tractor trailers. they run ones that deliver to the port of oakland. yeah, yeah. so with the port of oakland, just think of
5:47 am
this. you've got those cargo containers coming in on huge ships. they're offloaded by electric cranes. then the zero emission trucks, these are a combination of both battery electric and fuel cell electric trucks. pick up those cargo containers, deliver them all over california. these trucks can go for 500 miles at the longest ranges. and the shorter ranges are several hundred miles. but that's plenty of range to deliver these goods all across california. this is not for fleets like if you want to, it's you're going to have to at some point. that's right. so california has rules that are requiring manufacturers to start building fractions of their trucks in zero emission. and also fleets over the course of time starting next year. and then into over into a ten year period. they're going to have to buy zero emission trucks. we're here today to show that these trucks are here today. we have nine different manufacturers in certain models, different manufacturers, all the major manufacturers you can think of in trucks. they're all selling these trucks today. they're on
5:48 am
the road. we want fleet operators to come down and try them out. and for folks who have businesses and say, i think this is cost prohibitive, they're actually incentives. yes, we have incentives. we have a program called eight ship that offers larger amounts of money for larger trucks, all the way up to several hundred thousand dollars for the largest and most costly trucks. the goal is to really cover that incremental cost. so if you went in expecting to buy a diesel truck, we can get you into a battery, electric or fuel cell truck for about the same amount of money. all right. tom brotherton calista. thank you so much. this event is open to the public, but you do have to pre-register the information here on your screen. it is at the oakland arena, starts at 9:00. you can come kick the tires until 4:00 in the afternoon. you do have to register the address to register is right there on your screen. they are. it's kind of funny because these are really innovative, but they look very similar to what we're already seeing on the roadways. right? so it's the insides, the guts of
5:49 am
the trucks that are a little bit different. but cool to see some of the school busses here, even trash trucks as well. so we're going to go honk some horns, kick some tires, and we'll see you in the next hour. stub your toe. those are big tires to kick. thanks, chris. kick them all the way up there. all right, 548 for you. this morning. and decision 2024 tim walz made his first solo campaign stop speaking to union members over in la. yes, his first solo speech scott mcgrew as a candidate for vice. yeah, right. i mean, he's the governor of minnesota, so he's probably spoken alone before he successfully won the governorship. before that, he was in congress. so he's not new to this, but we've grown used to seeing him at those big rallies with kamala harris. and this is the first time we've seen him up on a dais speaking alone to a more sedate crowd, at least as a national candidate. as you know, jd vance has been attacking him on his military record 24 years serving, and he responded, i'm going to say it again as clearly
5:50 am
as i can. i am proud of my service to this country. and i firmly believe you should never denigrate another person's service record. if anyone brave enough to put on that uniform for our great country, including my opponent, i just have a few simple words. thank you for your service and sacrifice. now, when i talk about those big rallies, it's record numbers of people at those democratic rallies, high energy. and we're getting the word that the democratic national committee would like to repeat that during next week's democratic convention, fill a stadium with regular people, not just delegates. they may choose to use the fiserv forum in milwaukee, wisconsin. now, if that sounds familiar, that is the same stadium the republicans used for their convention. harrison walz would appear there while barack obama is speaking in chicago. milwaukee is about 90 miles north of chicago. nbc
5:51 am
will, of course, have full coverage of the convention, just as we had full coverage of the republican convention. that starts at 7 p.m. every night next week. and there you see lester holt and the rest of the team, the united auto workers, meantime, have filed a complaint with the national labor relations board over the conversation that elon musk and donald trump had on monday, trump said the auto workers should have been fired for going on strike. now, firing someone for going on strike is generally illegal, and threatening to do so is also against the rules. but trump's not in charge of anything. and musk, though famously anti-union, really didn't say anything. so not clear how they broke the rules. this may be more a political move by the auto workers who, remember, support, harris, and it's been a while since we've seen president biden in the first lady in public. they were in new orleans tuesday, part of the president biden's cancer moonshot project. the push to cure cancer forever. here's the

turns out he can solve a rubik's cube in about 15 seconds in 10s. if things are going perfect. and he brought home a men's team usa medal for the first time in 16 years. he's also continuing his media tour with a stop on the today show this morning that is ahead at 7:00. right after today in the bay. strike while it's hot. the kid's on a roll. he can give soup timmy a roll. remember that rubik's cube guy? the speedcuber we had? was that his name? soup. timmy. i don't remember the name. yes, i interviewed him, so i remember his name. most definitely. well, there you have it. okay. a lot of kids putting the rubik's cube in the backpack. probably you got to get it. break out the books now. yep. time for the books. the laptops, all of that stuff. and for this first day, it's going to be a nice one. at least weather wise, we do have some warm temperatures headed our way for the afternoon. and we're starting out in the upper 50s in palo alto. and it's 62 in walnut creek. it's also fairly comfortable in san jose with our morning start at 64. and then as
5:55 am
we take a look at san mateo, what to expect today as you're dropping off the kids, mostly cloudy and it's going to be in the upper 50s and then as you're making your way to work, it's going to start to gradually warm up. we're headed for the low 70s at pickup time. it's going to be also nice for if the kids want to get out of school and then head to the playground for a little while, it's going to be comfortable for the south bay. we're back to some of the same temperatures we saw yesterday, up to 83 degrees in san jose, and upper 80s, even a few low 90s. so we're still having the air conditioning on in antioch today. while oakland has the natural air conditioning with mid 70s and mid 60s for half moon bay, san francisco in the upper 60s again gusty winds and for the north bay we're headed for the mid to upper 80s. our 7-day forecast shows more of the same. really not changing these temperatures too much even in the overnight hours. it's going to be in the upper 50s low 60s and in san francisco upper 60s for highs extending into the middle of next week. mike, you've got more info on that

crash heading out of richmond. yeah, but this picture tells the info it's worse. look at this jam. now we talked about no metering lights, any jam. you becaus traffic is backed up to and through the toll plaza itself. and actually this starts mid-span of westbound 580. this crash, they need to move the car, but they also might need assistance from a paramedic. there is nothing major reported for injuries, but both of those vehicles, the tow truck and the paramedics, they're stuck in the backup getting across that span and may ripple out to the bay bridge. although it looks pretty standard there. highway 37 also looks standard. we're tracking the east shore freeway. no major changes anywhere south of there is very pleasant right now. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, happening now, san jose hotel workers could hit the picket line soon. last night, hotel workers from union unite 19 overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike that includes employees at hilton, doubletree, marriott and hyatt place in san jose. now, their contract just fired last month. since then,
