wednesday morning to you at 6:00 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. we'll get a look at that commute with mike coming up in just a bit. but let's talk about those hot temperatures. meteorologist kari hall, of course. bringing the sunshine this morning with this dress. is that why it's going to be hot? is fine. she did it. we just don't want the excessive temperatures that we are going to see today. and so we are going to see a range in temperatures. but you know, just chill out. relax. look at this sunrise this morning. isn't that nice? yeah. it feels good out there. and we unfortunately we are seeing more smoke coming in. so that may be one of the reasons why we have such a beautiful sunrise this morning. and we will be under a heat advisory for much of the inland areas, the north bay, as well as the south bay into the santa cruz mountains. and it also includes san francisco. but what's not included today? the
6:02 am
immediate coastline, parts of the inner bay. we're going to start out across the bay area with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, and then see it quickly heat up. we're headed for the triple digits in moraga today in concord, 105 and 103 in fairfield will also see a high of 103 today in livermore. so we'll be talking more about this and more in just a few minutes. but mike, now the commute is on. yeah, the commute is on. the metering lights are on. the heat is on. from what kari is talking about. oh, my. but it's okay. at the bay bridge toll plaza. pretty standard build. you still see some movement, but it continues to build as folks come in off the berkeley curve. a little more slowing here through richmond, past golden gate fields. nothing excessive. a couple of disabled vehicles reported on highway 37. no slowing as you get over toward novato. but just watch for those crews, folks still building up over toward merritt island. here's the bigger issue. 242 started early with slowing and remains there as you're heading south on. 242 connecting highway four and 680. you can take the corner instead of cutting the
6:03 am
corner. that may be just about the same amount of time and save you from brake taps. no problems for walnut creek heading down 680 and through san ramon out of contra costa county. another way we're looking at toward walnut creek, a smooth drive. all these routes, including krueger pass and yvr ignacio valley road back to you. thank you very much, mike. 602 right now, later today, the 17 year old suspect in the shooting of the 49ers first-round draft pick, ricky pearsall will appear in court. he's being charged as a juvenile, at least for now. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us live from levi's stadium, where the team is reacting to the shooting. and i want to say, as well, his resilience. yes, absolutely. and that was something that was repeated several times over the course of the post-practice interviews. gm john lynch said it was nothing short of a miracle that he really survived this whole incident. about 50 miles north in san francisco. this is where district attorney
6:04 am
brooke jenkins was talking about the charges that she filed against that 17 year old accused of shooting, ricky pearsall. she said that she charged him with attempted murder and with additional firearm allegations, very serious charges. but so fa, the 17 year old suspect will face these at the city's youth guidance center, jenkins told us she has not ruled out requesting that he be transferred to adult court. i have attempted to make it clear that there will be accountability when people commit crimes, most certainly serious crimes of this nature. ricky pearsall will likely be back in uniform and on the field before all of this court stuff plays out. he is on the reserve non-football injury list for the next four weeks. john lynch said that he will need that time to recover, not just physically, but emotionally from this very close call. the gm said that when pearsall was shot at union square while shopping for luggage for away games, the
6:05 am
bullet went in through his chest and out his back, leaving major organs and nerves intact. nothing short of miraculous that he came out of this as good as he did, just so, so grateful that everything worked out the way it did. now, there's only so much information that we can get about this suspect, because he is 17 years old and he is being tried in juvenile court. if that changes, if brooke jenkins does request that he be transferred, we'll get a lot more information. but we will continue calling da jenkins office to get the status on what happens today in that juvenile court in santa clara, kris sanchez today in the bay. yeah, it will be interesting to see how it all develops. thanks, chris, for the latest. 604 for you right now. and authorities this morning they have yet to identify the driver killed when two cars plunged off the road. this is near san francisco's historic cliff house. now you're looking at a live scene right now this morning. this all happened around five last night. police at this point will only

confirm those cars were involved in some kind of crash. the surviving driver suffered minor injuries and video from that scene also showing first responders there rescuing a dog, which firefighters say was in one of those two cars. one witness surfing in the waters below at the time of that crash, actually described what he saw. me and my buddy were out there and we heard this noise and we looked up and i thought the cliff was collapsing, but it wasn't. it was two cars flying through the air. it looked 50ft in the air. one of them police so far saying little about the investigation or if they have determined fault, they are still hoping to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened to decision 2024 in the race for san francisco mayor. the latest campaign documents indicate billionaire michael bloomberg is giving incumbent london breed a huge financial boost. bloomberg is bankrolling an independent committee supporting breed's reelection bid and recently donated $1 million. that's on

6:08 am
continues through at least tomorrow. this is all due to unhealthy smog out there. our sky ranger was over the golden gate park yesterday, and you can see right there the hazy conditions that were out there. meteorologist kari hall, of course. here. this morning. right now with a look at things. i mean, you can even see just a foggy start to the morning. yeah. air quality out there. how is it for us? so we are getting some drifts of smoke from some nearby wildfires. but then even when you have a thin layer of fog, that kind of just traps that smoke and gives us the smoggy conditions that we see. so we are going to see that once again. even after the fog clears, the smoke will linger, and you can just see it as you look in the distance and look around the bay area. the light shadings of blue show the hazy sky that we will see today, and parts of the east bay, as well as santa clara valley, will have slightly more unhealthy air quality compared to the rest of the bay that continues into at least this evening. and then going into the day tomorrow, it looks like there will be some clearing with a lot more of that smoke heading off towards the east. but the source of all of
6:09 am
this are all of the fires we have burning across the region, including a lot of them farther to the north. but the bear fire over tahoe, that's also causing a lot of concerns and creating a lot of smoke that we'll see linger over the bay area at least through this afternoon. i'll be tracking that for you. mike's been looking around to find you some lower gas prices. with all of your help, folks, we'll explain that in a second. we're looking over here toward the south bay. we'll start in santa clara. top number here. county's best is 389 again. this time, though, we found that price in cupertino. cupertino auto repair on stevens creek boulevard jumping up to marin county. the low jumps up to 411 at arco on redwood highway in mill valley. the middle number and then the bottom number here higher still the price in walnut creek, where the best we could find there is 449 in walnut creek's quick serve on south california boulevard. talked about how we can share those prices. that's gasbuddy.com where you can give or get those price alerts. as we look at the roadways, we're showing a smooth flow of traffic. we're going to
6:10 am
zoom over toward the east bay. contra costa county continued slowing the air shows 242 slow southbound as it connects highway four and 680. no surprises for the rest of that map there as we look over toward the bay bridge toll plaza. and then we're looking over to the richmond side of the bridge as well. we're starting to build that group over toward the north bay. back to you. thanks so muc, mike. well, climate change is putting a beloved south korean dish at risk. up next, here on today in the bay the challenges the kimchi industry is facing as global temperatures rise and the specific crop at risk. and some potholes on wall street really rough markets yesterday. and let's take a look at the futures this morning. and we're going to see more of the same. plus he has an iq of 165. malcolm what do you think that came from a 2000 and sitcom star. spent the holiday weekend just outside the bay area. we'll show you what bryan cranston was up to. keep it here. you're watching today in the bay

6:19 am
and that gives off the orange hue that we see in the morning as the sun comes up. looking live at dublin this morning and so we're also going to see that kind of mixing in with some of the low clouds and fog near the coast. and so over san francisco it's going to be smoke and fog. the smog that we'll see over the next several hours. so looking at our temperatures, once the fog clears away from the coastline, our temperatures will be heating up quickly inland. and san jose will hit a high of 97. a lot of triple digits here. from morgan hill to gilroy to los gatos, over toward the east bay, where martinez will see a high of 101 today, 103 in livermore, and will be very close in fremont with a high of 96. while oakland will be in the upper 80s and upper 70s for half moon bay, san mateo today, 90 degrees, and we're in the upper 80s in san francisco, downtown and in the mission district for the north bay 99 in napa, sonoma, 100 and 104 degrees in ukiah. today, a lot of high heat
6:20 am
that continues tomorrow as well. eventually, this high is going to move off towards the east and allow for a dip in the jet stream. the jet stream is the flow of those upper level winds that quite often separates the warm air from the cool air, and the cooler air is right behind that. but it takes a while, so we're not going to see the dip in temperatures until early next week. so we're looking at napa. what to expect over the next ten days, going from upper 90s to triple digits to the 80s on saturday. and we get some real relief next week. we're looking at 70s and 80s here in rain, very close to the region once that low comes in. so looking at our 7-day forecast for a lot of our inland areas, with a high of 102 today, it may be slightly hotter tomorrow in some spots, but then temperatures come down for the weekend, mainly sunday into early next week. and in san francisco it's in the mid 80s today, but eventually we'll work our way back to the upper 60s.

succinct. stick to the facts, then share your receipts. expect a reply within a couple of weeks. if it doesn't go your way, you can file an official complaint with the u.s. department of transportation. although no airline offers cash compensation when it inconveniences passengers, many do offer an olive branch in the form of airline miles or vouchers. a future free flight might make a sour travel experience a little less bitter. good advice. thanks, chris. well, we've got a lot more ahead for you at 630 this morning, including a teenager facing charges for the shooting of 49ers player ricky pearsall. that suspect, now set to face a judge. we have the new details being revealed about the investigation. plus, one driver is dead after their car went over this cliff here by the historic cliff house in san francisco. the search for the cause of this deadly crash. stay with us. you're watching to

11:00, continues through 11:00 tomorrow evening. so right now, as we mentioned, we are seeing a lot of 60s. it's 62 in pleasanton and livermore. and then we're seeing also a lot of temperatures in the 50s for much of the north bay. but then as we take a look at gilroy, how quickly it heats up, going into late morning into the afternoon, eventually headed for the triple digits there and in fremont, we'll see a high of 94 degrees, while in concord, 105. so we will be tracking a gradual cooldown in our forecast coming up in a few minutes. mike, you're still looking at that crash in pleasanton, and we might not be the only ones focused on northbound six. 80 is where the crash is around bernal. the southbound side, though, the barrier between the two directions is low enough where you can still see activity, and there's a few vehicles on the northbound side, so that might distract the southbound commute. i believe that's why we're seeing more slowing coming down off of the dublin interchange. and past stone ridge, then slowing toward bernal as well. both directions.
