president donald trump are preparing to face off in terms of what you're looking for or the strategies both sides are are looking to use, how will they define their positions on things like economy, abortion and guns? that's the big question, kieran. i think you're right. look, i think guns is now going to be in focus. we've seen them lay out very different views as it comes to how to deal with that issue. for example, vice president kamala harris has called for things like an assault weapons ban and expansion of background checks. red flag laws. former president trump, for his part, and i covered his administration kira when he was in office. there was a moment after the parkland shooting where he was actually open to some form of gun safety measures. he then backed away from that. so what does this look like? if either of them were to win and actually be in the oval office? i anticipate they will get a lot of questions about that. they've also been laying out their economic policies very different views.

trump wants to, for example, extend the 2017 trump era tax cuts. kamala harris wants to lower actually, the rate at which top income earners are taxed for their capital gains taxes. but it's not as high as biden's. so i talked to senator bernie sanders about that. he's had some really interesting things to say. she's also proposing things like a ban on price gouging on groceries. so look, these two candidates couldn't be more different. how will they lay out their case? will trump stick to policy or will he engage in personal attacks? i interview governor doug burgum about that today. for her part, will vice president kamala harris clearly state how a harris administration would differ from a biden administration? i think those are some of the big picture questions that will loom over the debate. and look, bottom line, kira whoever emerges with the momentum coming out of tuesday night, will or who emerges looking more presidential will have the momentum coming out of tuesday

base. and just a smidgen beyond the base is there. but what about beyond? so for trump, he needs to talk to his base, which is largely white males, 85% of the republican vote is white. and he does very well with males. he needs to make sure they come out and vote for harris. she has to go in a little bit different direction. first of all, she's going to be appealing a lot more to females. we're going to see a huge gender gap in the vote. this time. she's going for females. don't don't forget that. right to protective reproductive freedom. she's going to appeal to those folks. she's going to appeal to the unions. and they're both, by the way, going to search for that missing piece. and that missing piece is the suburban vote. whoever is able to get more of that vote will tip the scales. so they're each going to their base, first of all, and then they're trying to expand so that they get beyond the low 40s and mid 40s up to 50 or more. i mean, you could argue that a lot of people already have their minds made up, but what is the
