peeking out our window over downtown san jose. and it looks nice and clear. felt mild as we were walking into the building. carey what can we expect for the weekend? yeah, it looks really nice for us. a lot of changes though. it will be warmer going into the afternoon as we are not seeing as much of the fog over the bay and looking at the golden gate bridge from our sutro tower camera and we're also going to see a warm, sunny day and some of our valleys are going to have some hot temperatures tomorrow. those temperatures come down. it will feel more comfortable. and then on sunday it turns windy and cooler. so looking at what we're starting with right now, it's in the mid to upper 50s for much of the bay area, lower 50s for the north bay, sonoma as well as santa rosa at 50 degrees, but headed for the upper seconds today. so significant warm up going into the afternoon. we'll talk about the weekend coming up. mike how are those gas prices? i've seen them going up. i saw the price that i drive by every morning, go up another dime over the last couple of

3.4. that just happened just minutes ago. that's after yesterday's 4.7. we're still getting those aftershocks, so we'll continue to monitor that. and we'll get a look at the bay area forecast for the weekend. coming up in a few minutes. all right. well the earth and the roads are calm right here through palo alto, here at palo alto to san mateo. remember the weekend work will continue for the express lane again between those two areas. watch the center area. some slowing and some lane loss. but right now everything is flowing smoothly. let's see how it's going in the world of business with bertha. hey. good morning. we've got the major averages looking like they're going to open a bit higher this morning. extending gains that we saw yesterday. investors snapping up shares of big tech names including ai chip maker nvidia boosting the s&p 500 and nasdaq for a fourth straight day. the dow saw positive back to back gains. the three major averages are on pace

for weekly gains overall, with the dow up nearly 2%, the s&p up 3.5%. and thanks to that big rebound in tech, nvidia, the nasdaq is up more than 5% for the week. in focus today we're going to be getting some data on import prices and consumer sentiment. meantime, sony music is reportedly in talks to buy the rights to pink floyd's songs for about $500 million. the bands back catalog includes some of the best selling hits of the past 50 years, such as another brick in the wall and wish you were here. sony is also in talks to buy the music rights of queen for about $1 billion, and bought bruce springsteen's catalog recently for a reported $550 million. google meantime, is testing a new feature for google wallet to turn us passports into digital ids, digital ids from state issued ids and passports can be used at tsa checkpoints. at some airports, more than 20

earlier this week during a concert in sao paulo, brazil, it is part of the hurry up tomorrow album, the final one in the trilogy that includes after hours and dawn fm. this is also the final album under the moniker of the weekend, so he'll still make music, just not be the weekend. i think it's the best name because everyone loves the weekend. the weekend right? yeah. all right, so we're here today, not letting some of those friday the 13th scares and fears stop us. maybe that's why marcus isn't here. maybe he's superstitious. but friday the 13th has us wondering where does the superstition rank among some of the biggest superstition i posted a poll on my instagram and on x. what's your biggest superstition other than friday? the 13th? finding a lucky penny, a black cat crossing your path. breaking a mirror, bringing bad luck. i just did that the other day. oh, don't sit too close to me. you lost your voice and i
5:18 am
lost my voice. yeah, i lost my mind a little bit before that. so go ahead and let us know what you think. or do you think maybe this is. it's all baloney. i actually forgot when i came into the newsroom. i'm like, oh yeah, it's friday the 13th. i forgot about it. my favorite friday at friday the 13th is in may because it's my nephew's birthday. my niece was born in april of friday the 13th, so every so often it's friday and he thinks it's super cool. yeah, yeah, yeah. no superstitions. my grandmother's lucky number was 13, so she taylor swift must have got it from her. for me, i think it's, walking under the ladder. i just kind of don't do it because the brady episode where they got paintsville, i gotcha, i gotcha. well, this morning a raccoon walked across my path. does that count? good luck or bad luck? it's not. no. the black and white raccoon. so at least it wasn't a skunk at least it wasn't a skunk. skunks. probably salt. and throw it over your shoulder, you know, knock three times. oh my grandma had a superstition for everything. yeah. oh but it's looking good
5:19 am
weather wise today. yeah, that doesn't look so unlucky for us. even the raccoons are out. it will be a little bit warmer in some spots, but maybe it's an extra pool day for you and we are going to see sunshine and some nice weather for much of the bay area tomorrow. there is not much of a change, just a slight dip in temperatures, but it will be significantly cooler on sunday going into early next week. so let's talk about all of these changes. you can see just a little bit of fog there across the bay over san francisco. and we're going to see that quickly clearing out as our temperatures go from mid 50s to a noontime temperature of 67 and 71. for the afternoon, parts of the city will reach into the mid 70s and then across the bay into oakland. it will be in the upper 70s in napa today, 88 degrees. so definitely warmer than it was yesterday. and then we'll see a high of 91 in concord. a few of those low 90s in the inland areas. but then tomorrow, no more 90s on the map here except for clear lake, but san jose will be about ten degrees cooler
5:20 am
than that, with a high of 81 degrees, and in the upper 70s for hayward and fremont. now on sunday, this is when the cooldown comes in with more clouds. mostly 60s and 70s all across the bay area coming along with those lower temperatures will be some clouds and some rain. very close by, i think up by chico and redding. we could see some scattered showers moving over toward the sierra and then on monday, it shows that parts of the bay area may also see some light rain. so we're watching out for those big changes coming in with more clouds on tuesday. so look at our 7-day forecast going from upper 80s to low 70s on monday. and once again it will be mostly cloudy with some spotty showers. and in san francisco we're going to see more of those 60s in the forecast into the weekend. mike friday it is now friday. light yeah you know we're looking like that at the bay bridge toll plaza. just starting to see a few more cars come through. we expect those metering lights to have their impact a little bit
5:21 am
later on. this morning. and no slowing for highway four. look at that coming out of concord. pittsburg bay point highway 37 just now started the brake tap. this happened in the last 30 to 40s. i just checked the meters there, so we are looking at a later build and a lighter flow of traffic coming out of the altamont pass. we're holding steady with pretty light flow of traffic there. south bay no problems. south bay or south county back over to you. thank you very much. mike. it is 520 right now after a south bay teacher started noticing more of her students dealing with mental health issues, she decided to do something about it. coming up next on today in the bay, the steps she is taking to help improve their lives. it's a story that will certainly make you bay area proud. you got to love teachers. well, first, a reminder as we head to break. the giants kick off a three game with the padres. you can watch the first game of that series tonight at seven right here on nbc. bay area. you're welcome. we m

but, you know, later on today, i'll be rolling the sleeves up. it's going to be heating up as we go into the afternoon, as we take a live look outside in san jose. all clear as you're heading out. and we are right now in the low 60s, and we'll stay in the low 60s over the next few hours at noon. we're in the upper 70s and it will still be comfortable, but we are headed for the mid 80s for today. with all of that sunshine, a few spots hitting the low 90s. we'll see a high of 93 in ukiah. one of the warmer spots there. upper 80s for the south county and in palo alto. today we're looking at a high of 82 degrees. so we'll talk about some weekend events will help you make some plans. the weather will be changing. so more on that in a few minutes. and mike, you were checking in on the golden gate bridge. yeah a nice shot from sutro. here. see some low clouds if you look at the headlights. i've been tracking them. they're kind of stopped right now. i believe a crew is clearing from that southbound direction approaching the bridge. it's about time they clear that from their overnight work and they get about their weekend. as we look at the map, it's over. on the left side. you see the arrow pointing down and

the slower sensors approaching the bridge again. that should clear, but this won't clear on highway 37. at the top of the screen. that will continue to build. and i've just now seen the sensors start to change over into concord at of bay point for westbound highway four. no other slowing. oh, there you go. san jose kicked off with their first slowing as well. we'll check on the south bay coming up. back to you. thank you. mike two decision 2024 now. and in just a matter of hours, the gop presidential nominee arrives in the bay area. former president donald trump is making a visit focused entirely on boosting his war chest. today in the bay's bob redell is live in woodside this morning, close to where the former president will visit. and, bob, how much money are they hoping to raise? well, as much as possible, they of course, that's their goal. we know it to be tens of thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, maybe into the millions. president trump, the former president, expected to appear at

5:34 am
really, once the rest of these polls come in, is, is does it represent a turning point and thereby make it more difficult for trump to raise funds? donald trump, you know, i'm expecting a lot of support in this area, but i think there's equally a lot of people who are pro harris. and so i'm not surprised that he's in this area, but hopeful that we'll continue to raise money for kamala harris. i'm not a supporter, but hey, it's a free country so he can go where he wants. according to the san mateo county republican party, there's a rally scheduled at el camino park in palo alto to welcome the former president as he heads to this fundraiser here in woodside. the president is expected to be out later this afternoon for a fundraiser tonight in las vegas. vice president kamala harris, she was on the campaign trail in north carolina last night. you can hear there she was at a large rally. she still calling for a second debate with former president trump, even though he's again saying no, the harris

one along codornices creek, and the lower dwight encampment on dwight way. the city is not commenting due to pending litigation. the lawsuit comes as eye opening new numbers indicate a long term surge in unhoused people in the south bay. the nonprofit destination home recently found a 24% increase in people becoming unhoused in santa clara county over the two year period ending in 2023, meaning 4300 households lost their housing. it also marked a big jump from the 9% increase covering the prior two year period. our partners at the san jose spotlight say there are two major factors contributing to the spike the effects of the end of the covid ban on on evictions. so now we're looking at almost 23,100 people who have been evicted, which is the highest number since 2014. the other thing is we don't have

last year backed up for brock purdy. darnold looked good in his vikings debut last sunday against my husband's new york giants and his former team has nothing but love for him. well, at least until game time. sam's the man. like i've told everybody that i absolutely love sam. you know, he came in and helped me prepare and gave me everything that he had. you kno, with his role as a backup to help me be successful on sundays. and so i'll always be grateful for that. obviously, we want to win this week, but i'm happy for him and his opportunity and have nothing but the utmost respect for him. here from christian mccaffrey. but when are we going to see him play? he is back doing limited practice with the niners after that calf strain. and achilles tendinitis. so this will likely be a game time decision. stay tuned. a spooky weekend kicks off today as it is friday the 13th. and just in time, a new psychological thriller coming to theaters. feel the rhythm in

5:55 am
today in the upper 80s and a few low 90s. as you make your way into the north bay. santa rosa, a high of 88 degrees, about the same in martinez and dublin in san jose it will be in the mid 80s and 82, in palo alto tomorrow we're looking at a nice little cooldown for some spots, and it's only a couple of degrees for most areas, so we'll see. instead of upper 80s to mid 80s novato tomorrow, up to 82 degrees and 87. in livermore. but then check out sunday. this is when we have a big drop in temperatures, mostly 60s and seconds, and it will be a lot of clouds moving in as we watch some rain move somewhere close by. the region, mainly just to our north. but monday, may bring in some spotty showers and snow to the cierra. let's take a look at how much here, because it could be just enough to wet the lawn in most areas, but could be a pretty decent amount for parts of the east bay and south bay, where there could be close to a quarter inch of rainfall on monday with partly cloudy skies.
