is spreading. we are live this morning with details on the new strain and concerns we could experience wide spread of the virus right here in the u.s. by winter. a baseball league for at risk youth targeted by thieves. but that's not all. the added insult forcing them to replace thousands of dollars worth of equipment. also, the latest trump security scare alters the mindset in the race for the white house. the adjustments happening on both sides of the campaign trail in words and actions. this is today in the bay good wednesday morning to you. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. 5:00 right now we'll check in with mike for a look at that early morning commute. but first, a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. good morning. good morning. we're starting out with some clouds, light showers and even seeing this storm system approaching they already start f that wet weather moving in, and we're going to be watching out for this chance with the highest rain chances in the north bay.
5:02 am
and then later on this afternoon into some of the coastal areas, as well as the santa cruz mountains. right now, once again, just a lot of clouds to start out and mild temperatures. but as we take it hour by hour, we are looking at a chance of some off and on light rain into the early afternoon. not a lot to measure, but it will definitely be a change compared to what we've seen recently, and it's going to continue to be much cooler than normal with highs in the 60s and 70s. some of our warmer spots inland will be in the mid to upper 70s. we're up to 68 degrees in fremont this afternoon, so we'll take a look at all of our microclimates coming up in a few minutes. and mike, you're tracking a crash in milpitas. yeah reports of a crash involving a motorcycle happened southbound 680 approaching montague expressway. a lot of detail about folks walking around looking for some debris. only the slow lane may be affected by this activity, but we are looking at no problem for the speed sensors. watch for
5:03 am
that. if you're traveling past 237 in calaveras and down in towards san jose, though, that is the area where they continue the activity. a couple of disabled vehicles reported around eden valley road eaton canyon road. we're watching for the travel for west 580. no slowing on those sensors and a new incident reported around the san mateo bridge toll plaza. i don't know which direction. we'll get more detail from chp coming up. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, the new for you this morning. a new covid variant rapidly spreading overseas is now expected to become the primary strain right here in the u.s, maybe even before the arrival of winter. today in the bay's bob redell live for us in the east bay. and, bob, there is a new vaccine. the question is, will that be effective against the latest strain? good morning, jim marcus, one prominent infectious disease specialist who we spoke with thinks so that the new covid vaccine that just became available at your local pharmacy and health care provider will be effective in offering protection against this new variant. when it comes here to the united
5:04 am
states, this new variant on the rise in europe right now is called krajicek. doctor peter chin-hong with ucsf tells us it is much more transmissible than the current variant here in the united states, but does not expect zeke to cause more deaths or hospitalizations. here's why he's confident the new covid vaccine will work against zeke. this new variant that's been described in europe is very similar. in general, it's been derived from some of the variants that have been circulating. so it looks in general like that. so the vaccine which is updated would have a good chance not only at preventing serious disease, hospitalization and death, but to some people, it may also lower the chances of infection for a few, you know, for a period of time. doctor chin-hong recommends the new covid vaccine for people who are older or immune compromised. and even though the shot is available
5:05 am
right now, the doctor recommends maybe waiting another week or two until the start of october. so the antibodies peak in the winter, when that virus could be most active. reporting live here in pleasanton. bob redell today in the bay. yeah, something definitely to think about. bob. thank you. happening today, the united nations expected to vote on a resolution supporting palestinians in their conflict with israel. the general assembly is considering a resolution giving israel one year to withdraw its military and settlers from gaza and the occupied west bank. it calls for sanctions and an arms embargo if israel does not comply. israel calls the resolution misleading and however the vote turns out, would not be legally binding. supporters argue it would go a long way in reflecting current world opinion. and east bay youth baseball league needs your help this year after losing all of its equipment from a theft and fire. leaders of the san pablo baseball association learned this week that burglars
5:06 am
targeted their storage facility, then set it on fire. all kinds of critical equipment, including baseball helmets, balls, field maintenance tools, all stolen or even lost in that fire. san pablo police department made an arrest, but the motive is still under investigation. the league president is already promising to carry on. i'm not going to let some guy just because he burn and thrash our dreams and hopes. i'm not going to let him have that authority over us. i'm going to keep this league going no matter what i have to do. there's now a gofundme set up to cover the cost of new equipment. the league is also planning to hold car washes and bake sales as soon as this week, to cover some of the replacement costs. 505 now to decision 2024. former president trump back on the campaign trail following what the fbi is calling that apparent assassination attempt. both president biden and vice president harris reached out to check on him. as democrats and
5:07 am
republicans call for tamped down rhetoric and increased resources amidst continued threats of political violence. today, in the bay's brie jackson live in washington, dc this morning and brie former president took part in his first in-person campaign event. this is following that apparent assassination attempt. so what did he have to say? that's right. good morning marcus. laura. so during a town hall in michigan, former president trump, he praised vice president harris for calling him after this latest assassination attempt. and he claimed that being president is a, quote, dangerous business. while implying that his policy stance puts him at risk. jordan thompson former president trump back on the campaign trail, touting his plans if elected to a second term, while addressing the second assassination attempt against him. i'm putting a 200% tariff on, which means they're unsellable, unsellable in the united states. and then you wonder why i get shot at, right?
5:08 am
you know, only consequential presidents get shot at. trump also taking aim at his political opponent, calling vice president harris's policies dangerous. she's blasting his words as hateful and harmful to certain communities. members of the lgbtq community don't feel safe right now. immigrants or people with an immigrant background don't feel safe right now. women don't feel safe right now. republicans and democrats urge both sides to tone down the rhetoric. i think everyone should recognize that our elections should be determined at the ballot box, not by an assassin's bullet. lawmakers are also pushing for beefed up security measures and increased funding for secret service agents working around the clock. this election cycle. you cannot expect people working 80, 90, 100 hour weeks in perpetuity on the road three weeks out of a month to maintain the level of acuity and focus that we require
5:09 am
them to maintain in this no fail mission. at some point, there will be a breaking point. so we need to provide some relief to the secret service. with early voting underway, there are efforts to keep the candidates and the election secure. and next week there will be an all senators classified briefing on foreign threats to u.s. elections. marcus. laura. all right. brie jackson in washington this morning. brie. thank you. 508 right now, closer to home. taking a live look outside. you recognize it as the golden gate bridge. a little hazy, foggy, i should say. it's starting our day out there. a little moisture in the air. kari. yes. there's a lot of moisture there in san francisco. and it's making everything damp. as you're driving to work. you need to turn on the windshield wipers. we have some light rain coming through and low clouds, as we can see, hovering over the city that will linger for several more hours. the clouds are definitely up higher. it's not as wet in san jose, but still. there may be some light mist and drizzle to start out.
5:10 am
temperatures in the 60s through noon and then low 70s for the early afternoon. it will be a cooler day thanks to the clouds and light rain. we'll be watching out for this for one more day, and then we're going to start to warm up as we get more sunshine tomorrow. upper 70s and low 80s and it continues to heat up from there. so we'll take a look ahead to our weekend coming up in a few minutes. mike's been tracking where we can try to find some lower gas prices, and our chart in the bay area is far from the best in the state. we do not make the ten best at all, but the best in the bay is again in sunnyvale for 17. this time at world on westmont avenue, then in contra costa county. they have their best in concord for 19 at valero on willow pass road and on the peninsula. san mateo county's best is in menlo park for 29 at least. elite gas and mart on marsh road, just west of highway 101. we'll look to those reports at gasbuddy.com. i'm looking to the chp report and calling out that issue. we just talked about
5:11 am
having been reported at the san mateo bridge at the toll plaza. i'm hearing four lanes are blocked by a big rig. that was hit, as i think it was trying to reverse out of the toll plaza. so someone changed their mind. no injuries reported, but it could be blocking as many as four lanes in that commute direction. we're going to track that. i'm calling out an alert early in case that is your route. back to you. could be a tough morning out there. thank you. mike. well, maybe no surprise here. some of the earliest adopters to artificial intelligence are teenagers coming up on today in the bay. a new report detailing just how fast teens are embracing the technology at home and at school. the new findings every parent should know. and today is the day. the biggest fed decision in years will have. how it affects you. plus, you believe in life after love and we believe, especially when it comes to pop icon cher returning to the stage. have some details on her planned performance in
5:14 am
5:15 am
all across the bay area. we do have a significant warm up coming our way. after this chance of rain passes, we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. and we are looking at the westbound commute direction for the san mateo bridge heading toward the peninsula. things are moving smoothly on the span, but at the toll plaza, i'm tracking any updates we get regarding this big rig blocking multiple lanes there. not sure if it's a crash or if it's just a disabled rig that needs to be moved. we'll give you the latest as we see those sensors change and the updates come in. well, good morning. very happy wednesday to you. stock markets touched new highs yesterday. yesterday s&p 500 hit a new record. dow dipped a bit towards the end. the whole board at 23andme is resigned in protest of founder anne wojcicki's plan to take the company private instead of selling it. big news today of course will be the fed. the open markets committee ends its meeting around 11 a.m. our time and will announce its decision on interest rates. we expect
5:16 am
them to cut rates. the big question will be is it a quarter percent or a half percent? quarter percent is safe and cautious. half a percent would make people happier. but you know what? that's not the fed's job. interest rates affect all kinds of things, but most of all, they affect the economy. lower cost loans allows businesses to ramp up, hire people, buy new equipment. yes, your credit card interest rate may fall, though they're not directly related to the fed decision. auto loans may be lower. right now, the average is about 7%. mortgage rates will fall right now 6.27 for a 30 year fixed. houses, though, will not get significantly cheaper. the thing keeping house prices high is the lack of supply and credit cards. the average credit card charge is something like 22% interest. a quarter point is not going to save you a lot of money. it's that effect on the economy that really counts in today's decision. elon musk said on yesterday on x that he
5:17 am
thought kamala harris would arrest him if she becomes president. there's n that, nor s arrest people. he also said his spacex company, spacex, will sue the faa for what he calls regulatory overreach. he thinks the faa is putting too many restrictions on launches. the faa says spacex is breaking too many safety and environmental rules. musk takes a lot of money from the government. he's angry at video here of a spacex launch last night of the european galileo satellites. governments, mostly the us, pay spacex hundreds of millions of dollars. us also directs nearly $2 billion a year to tesla in the form of carbon credits, which it can then sell to other car companies. governor gavin newsom signed three bills regulating ai into law at the dreamforce conference in san francisco. one bans intentionally deceptive videos from being used in campaigns. our ginger conejero saab will have much more about
5:18 am
that coming up. musk's name actually came up here, too, because he has published fake videos of kamala harris. newsom said he didn't care if it was harris or trump. you just shouldn't do that, right? right all right. thanks, scott. you bet. well, this morning we're getting a better understanding about how teenagers are using artificial intelligence. this is all from a new study with the watchdog group called common sense media. researchers spoke to about a thousand teens and parents. they tried to get a better sense of how prevalent ai is in daily life. you may be surprised to hear seven out of ten teens are already using ai, most often to help with school and homework. the survey also found most of their parents were not aware of it. the biggest takeaway for me is that ai is moving very fast, that parents and teachers are pretty much out of the loop so that young people are using ai platforms with virtually no guidance. there's a gap in what parents think their kids are doing and what they're really doing. there's a huge gap
5:19 am
because kids are more savvy about ai and they're using it far more frequently than parents are. tune in to the today show for more of this exclusive interview with common sense about the study's findings. it's coming up at 7:00, right after today in the bay well, trending this morning after a five year hiatus, the victoria's secret fashion show officially back with someone special and one of the biggest stars in music set to headline. do you believe in life after love? after love, after love? i can feel something inside me say, i really don't think schaar just announced as one of the show's many musical guests. that event used to be an annual prime time tv spectacular featuring the world's most recognizable models, but victoria's secret canceled the program back in 2018 amid growing backlash to the brand's lack of inclusivity as well as perpetuating of unrealistic beauty standards. well this year's comeback show will have
5:20 am
an all women lineup of artists their first time ever. the company has not released any other names, just yet, but the show is set for october 15th. feathers and all. yeah, i think schaar sets up some unrealistic expectations about how long your career can go. yeah. no kidding. and that woman does not stop. all right, well, coming in to work this morning. sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle sprinkles. yeah, yeah. all right. those are wet. yeah. it's great. it's nice to see a little bit of rain here. i hope that we do get a bit more as we go into today. as we watch this storm system rolling down the coast, and we can see most of the rain is off the coast. and this is exactly how the models show the rain that would be coming in a lot of it dissipating as it moves into the bay area. but we do still have a chance of some light showers this morning. not a lot of it showing up on radar, but as we go into late morning into the afternoon, we could see quite a bit more of this rain coming in, at least to parts of marin county into san francisco,
5:21 am
extending over toward oakland. and there may also be some spotty rain just dotting the radar here and there as we look across the bay area for the afternoon later on this evening, things are clearing out, but looking at how much rain we typically see in the month of september september. yes, it is one of our usual drier months, but we will be soon transitioning into a more rainy period of the year. so we are at least expecting some rain this time of year as our temperatures head for the low to mid seconds. we're up to 75 in morgan hill today and 73 in los gatos for much of the east bay. it's in the mid to upper 70s. all of these temperatures much lower than what is typical for this time of year. and it's going to be nice to have a break once again from having to run the air conditioning. we have our natural air conditioning here as we get a mostly cloudy day and temperatures in the 60s in san francisco for the north bay, expect a high of 72 in sonoma
5:22 am
and 78 in ukiah. once the cooler air and the rain chances move off towards the east, it's going to quickly transition to much warmer temperatures as high pressure builds just off to our west. so take a look at brentwood going from mid 70s today to mid 80s tomorrow. low 90s on saturday and early next week will be close to 100 degrees. so summer is not done with us yet, even though on sunday we will officially begin the fall season and we're looking at highs widespread for the inland areas in the low 90s. such a quick turnaround from the 70s that we'll see today with a chance of showers and in san francisco, expect it to also gradually warm up, will be in the mid 70s for the weekend. mike, do you have an update for the san mateo bridge? yeah, welcome to update. i watched the traffic get pretty light and then start to build up traveling westbound. kind of a burst of traffic indicators indicative of what we might have seen if there was a traffic break at the toll
5:23 am
plaza, the big rig reported cleared or the incident has been cleared from the chp report without any slowing. so good news if you're traveling through across the san mateo bridge through the toll plaza. let's look over here toward the issue over at westbound 580 and eden canyon road. there was a disabled vehicle reported there. another reported at crow canyon. neither one showed any slowing. it is smooth after the dublin grade getting over toward the castro valley, y and an easy drive outside of the typical slowing we see out of the altamont pass. there's still activity for that crash. south 680 approaching montague. no injuries reported, but there may be a motorcycle and another vehicle on the shoulder. everything else looking green as the east bay starts. its typical build pattern. back to you. thanks, mike. new technology aiming to save lives. coming up next on today in the bay. the way americans living with a heart defect can now benefit from the treatment in the bay area company behind it. we'll be right back
5:26 am
which could save the lives of thousands of americans with a heart defect. right now, you're looking at the try clip. it was manufactured by abbott at their facility in menlo park earlier this year, the fda gave doctors the approval to use the try clip to fix leaky tricuspid heart valves in patients without that treatment. it makes it difficult
5:27 am
to walk or eat. the older treatment included open heart surgery, which was really too just risky and life threatening for many patients. the try clip procedure is through a vein in the leg. this is via the catheter to the heart, with patients usually out of the hospital the next day i was very active. i couldn't do the things that i normally like to do. i couldn't really enjoy my grandchildren because i just took too much energy that i was exerting. i felt very tired and listless. and then after within about a week, week and a half, i actually went out and played nine holes of golf and i was able to pick up where i was previously, and that was gregory jordan of sacramento, and he was actually told open heart surgery wasn't an option and that he only had a year to live. but his life was saved when he received that try clip during a clinical trial back in 2020. look at that. now he's hitting the links. good for him. coming up next, the top stories that we're following for you today, including sean diddy combs behind bars. this morning. the

5:32 am
turn the windshield wipers on. yes. big changes today with some wet weather moving in. some light showers for the most part. but we are possibly going to see some more measurable rain as we go into today. as we see this system moving down the coast. here's the center of the low, and that's going to be riding along the coastline for today. and some off and on showers possible. even though right now what we're seeing is some mist and drizzle. there may be some more of that activity coming in around 10:00 to 11:00 into noon for parts of the north bay into san francisco, but not everyone is going to see that rain chance today, but it will keep our temperatures down in livermore. it will be mostly cloudy. we're going from upper 50s to low 70s today, and the last day will be, for the most part, leaving the air conditioning off. so we'll talk about the changes ahead coming up. mike, you have a note about those driving conditions? yeah. like you said it might not be a downpour right on your windshield, but make sure you load up with some of the washer fluid because you might get a smear if there's a few drops. and at least that's my car. i
5:33 am
got to wash it. look at the roadway. we're looking at a smooth drive through emeryville, though the tail lights heading toward the berkeley curve and the bay bridge. no big deal. just a typical slowing approaching the incline. right about time now. should see the metering lights in another ten minutes. we are looking at one crash on highway four at the top of the screen. there westbound heading toward i-80. that's around franklin canyon. reports of a deer that has been hit, so that may be in lanes. there may be a crew heading out there. your typical slowing for highway four, but another deer reportedly hit on kirker pass road. that's two for this morning, so watch those darker areas. we're approaching the route season a season later on in the fall as a look at the south bay. a smooth drive, but 101 starts your typical build right around oakland road for 101. back to you. thanks, mike. the san francisco medical examiner's office is facing big criticism this, as one woman tells us, she lost precious years with her father because she was told he was dead. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us from the newsroom. and kris, another question a lot of people have. how could this happen?
5:34 am
yeah, a lot of people are asking how this could happen, how a man who died of an overdose in a tenderloin hotel in san francisco could have been misidentified. the man in question is james robinson. you see him here in a photograph taken by his daughter. she said that they would meet up in the tenderloin for visits up until 2021, when he was wrongly identified as a man who died of an accidental drug overdose in a tenderloin hotel. the family was notified robinson's daughter had him cremated. she had his ashes and took them home for three years. she mourned his father, her father, only to find out this year that her father was still very much alive. spotted by a family friend on a san francisco street. robinson and his daughter reunited. then he disappeared again. now the medical examiner says the trouble is that the man who died in that hotel room back in 2021 was identified by hotel staff and not by family. now, in a
5:35 am
statement, the san francisco city administrator said upon learning the facts, we promptly submitted the subject's dna to the state to assist in the correct identification of the decedent. that's the man who was found in that hotel room. the city is investigating and working with the family to address the situation. now, the executive director of san francisco's coalition on homelessness says this is a reminder that people who live on the streets, they have families, they have children, they have parents, they have siblings who love them, and they are struggling to survive. robinson's daughter continues to look for her father since he disappeared once again. she set up a fundraiser to make sure that there are funds for his recovery when she finds him. now the work also continues to identify the ashes that robinson's daughter thought were her father's. laura. wow, what a mix up there. thank you very much, chris. 535 right now. today, sean diddy combs is expected back in court for a

bail hearing after being indicted on federal sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. he was previously denied bail. now, a warning some may consider details of this indictment disturbing. prosecutors say he used his fame and wealth to exploit women for at least 16 years. combs arrest at a manhattan hotel monday comes six months after federal authorities raided his homes in los angeles and miami. prosecutors revealed they found weapons, including three defaced ar 15. they also say they found videos of elaborately produced sex performances with multiple victims. his attorney says his client is innocent. i think that we made the point that we've been wanting to make. i think it came out. mr. combs is a fighter. he's going to fight this to the end. he's innocent. he came to new york to establish his innocence. he's not afraid. he's not afraid of the charges. the federal case follows a

burglaries. the alum rock village business association will launch a new camera pilot program later this morning. this as police are investigating another break in nearby willow glen. the latest victim is british kelly's la villa dahle. it happened just about 24 hours ago. cameras showed someone breaking the glass on the front door, heading straight for the cash register. in this case, they didn't get very much and they left quickly. but the door needed major repair. merchants there fed up with the crime spike. and they're already taking new action. i think it's happening maybe at between 1 and 3 in the morning. so perhaps if they could be cruising around here at that time, it would help dissuade these people from doing what they are doing. they're also looking into putting overhead lights across the streets, making them more powerful. so far, no arrests have been made in this latest theft. well, stanford's abuzz with what is being referred to

as the biggest ai event in the world. dreamforce kicking off its second day today. let's check in with today in the bay's ginger conejero saab. she's live in san francisco. this morning. ginger. day one saw some big announcements. what do we know about what's in store for today? well, good morning, laura and marcus. still a lot of talk about ai from business leaders, innovators, and even celebrities that are in the ai space. an estimated 45,000 people attending this three day conference here in san francisco. many of whom are here to learn about ai. now, day two kicks off shortly this morning, and it follows a big first day. one of yesterday's highlights. governor gavin newsom sit down with salesforce ceo marc benioff. the governor signed three new ai related laws. now those laws aim at election ads and deep fakes, opening companies up to legal action. if they knowingly allow those deep fakes to be shared. the governor vowed to sign the ban after elon

musk shared a fake video of vice president kamala harris. a lot of celebrities have also been in the city for this conference as well. dreamforce speakers include simone biles, kate hudson, matthew mcconaughey and will.i.am of the black eyed peas. he has been a long time tech investor and entrepreneur, as well as a supporter of ai. he says it's important for musicians to embrace the technology. in fact, the black eyed peas have a new member, an ai presence named vida, who will be part of their las vegas residency next year. now, this is what we know about vida. so far. vida is programed to stimulate the human experience. true creatives will always be creative, no matter what's creative around them. so, prince was the most amazing musician, the most talented musician and artist of all times. did that stop people from being creative? that did prince's awesomeness

take jobs away or did it create more jobs? did it make touring? did it make the color of our record industry even even bette? will.i.am is also launching an interactive, ai powered radio app that allows people to ask questions about what they are hearing now. still on music, there will be plenty of it tonight at oracle park. tonight is tream fest benefit concert for ucsf. benioff children's hospitals. that is another big highlight of the conference of this three day event. some 30,000 people are expected to attend. pink and imagine dragons are headlining tonight, so raise your glass. that's what i've got for you. and also, i want to leave you guys with a little a little joke courtesy of our photographer, jesse landers. will.i.am can also be known as will i am. all right, back to you. we'll see you in the next hour. good job.
5:42 am
good job. all right, let's take a look. live outside in san francisco. yeah, you can see there the lens there a little bit wet. some rain across the bay area this morning. kerry told us about it. yeah. we're seeing the system dropping and it's going to bring us some light showers to start out our day. and we're going to see a lot more of that along the coast and in san francisco. as you make your way inland. we're seeing still a cloudy sky, some mist and drizzle, but definitely not as much of the activity and wet weather that we're seeing in san francisco 63 right now. as you step out in san jose. so here's the changes. the center of the low right here spinning off the coast, the rain out ahead of that. but most of it for now is just offshore. but we will be watching out for the possibility that this rain could move in as we go through late morning and foster city. it's going to be drizzly and temperatures in the low 60s, and we're going to stay in the 60s at least into the early afternoon as our highs today head for the low 70s for the south bay into the east bay.
5:43 am
mike, you're tracking the changes at the bay bridge. yeah. one of those changes, predictable is the lanes are filling in. just started about 7 or 8 minutes ago, and already we're seeing about mid parking lot for most of these middle lanes approaching. that indicates the volume slowing on the incline all the way back from the metering lights. and that's what we see on the sensors as well. little taps of brake over there down the east shore freeway as well. also in that bay bridge shot we saw some low clouds blowing through. so keep that in mind. that may mean some wet roadways through some of your drives today over there. the golden gate bridge, south 101 shows a little bit of slowing. it's recovering. i believe they cleared that crew heading down towards spencer. over here. this is not clear. ginger just talked about it. dreamforce continues at the moscone center. watch. howard. it's blocked off between third and fourth. third had closures yesterday. fourth and fifth have both way both two way traffic through the area. so watch for those subtle changes. definitely watch for pedestrians if you're driving around that area that's just off i-80 and i-80. the central freeway area will have

the potential low lane closure after ten through the area, so watch for that disruption. again. they're working on the median work there. and then ginger also talked about oracle. that's where the concert will be tonight with pink and imagine dragon. so there will be crowds there going between oracle and moscone center. the rest of the bay shows a pretty typical bill, with san jose showing the slowing for north 101. really right on time there. as you're coming up from 280 up to oakland road. the note for vta, we start the next phase of the project. orange and green lines are disrupted closures between great america and champion stations as well. back to you. all right. a lot of stuff going on. thanks mike. today is equal pay day meant to shine a light on the gender pay gap. ahead on today in the bay. the new findings in the office and at home. some may find alarming about the global workforce. speaking of days, we are 47 days away from the presidential election. everything from the

to the late morning into the afternoon. it will be a cool day as we only get some peeks of sunshine, but we'll talk about a big warm up in our microclimate forecast in just a few minutes. and between what kari showed and what i'm showing here, the golden gate bridge, there's again some fog, as kari talks about. also there was slowing as road crews cleared. the cones are gone from our view, just north of the toll plaza. traffic

on the span getting back to its normal speed. we'll show you the buildup. and we do have a new incident just off the bay bridge. coming up, a spotlight on hate crime here in america. the senate judiciary committee held a hearing this week in an effort to better protect all americans. senators talked about protests on college campuses and hate crimes following the terror attack in israel last year. lawmakers also discussed the six year old palestinian boy who was murdered by his landlord in illinois. that hearing featured tense moments as lawmakers debated the best methods to reduce future hate crimes across the country. that was contentious, but i'm glad that they held it. i hope that some of the points that came through about how hate works, how we ought to respond to it. i think that one of the things that we all agreed on is there should be more funding for the office of civil rights, but i think one of the things that i was trying to stress is that the answers to the things on campus require much more focus on long term things. how we're going to

the maga supreme court eliminated roe, the hard right made clear that they'd keep going. in alabama this year, we saw just how vulnerable ivf has become as the next target of ultra conservatives. most americans support a woman's access to ivf, but may run afoul of some abortion laws because viable embryos that are left over after a woman successfully becomes pregnant are destroyed in the lab. former president trump was in flint, michigan, tuesday where he brought up the subject of his crowd sizes, something kamala harris had baited him with in the debate a week ago, claiming people leave his rallies in the middle. trump, clearly still annoyed by it. we do these rallies. they're massive rallies. everybody loves. everybody stays till the end. by the way, you know when she said that, well, your rallies, people leave. honestly nobody does. and if i saw them leaving, i'd say, and ladies and gentlemen, make america great again. and i'd get the hell out.

okay. harris. meantime spoke before a group from the national association of black journalists. that's the group trump spoke to in chicago, where he questioned whether the vice president was black. harris questioned trump's statements about immigrants. we've got to say that you cannot be entrusted with standing behind the seal of the president of the united states of america, engaging in that hateful rhetoric that as usual, is designed to divide us as a country. harris also repeated her promise to increase child tax credit. trump, who has promised to cut taxes on tips overtime and social security, said he would cut americans car insurance in half, but he didn't say how. he also said he would return salt deductions that state and local tax deductions that you can deduct from your

time. yeah. regardless of who wins on that big stage belting it out. right. all right. well let's get a look at the forecast. you can see the drizzle out there in some parts. yeah a little bit of a wet start on this wednesday morning. and we are going to see things changing quickly over the next couple of days. once the system passes by and moves just to our south. but right now we're kind of in the thick of it with a lot of clouds coming in. the rain just off the coast, and we'll be watching out for those rain chances over the next few hours. really nice to see this. along with the cooler temperatures and looking at our hour by hour forecast. stopping you right here at noon where you may have some light showers moving through marin county, moving through parts of the bay into the delta and in san francisco as well. so just plan on there being at least a little bit of some wet weather here and there. not all of us will see those rain chances, but really it could be anywhere going into at least the next few hours and all of the clouds and rain chances will keep those temperatures down. we're going to see more of

the same temperatures in those highs that we saw yesterday. we're up to 75 in martinez also mid 70s for much of the north bay, while san francisco will be in the upper 60s and 64, in half moon bay, taking it into the day tomorrow. it warms up just slightly for the inland valleys as we return to sunshine and a breezy wind, and that warming trend continues through the end of the week. by friday, we're seeing upper 70s for san jose, low 80s for the south county, as well as low to mid 80s working your way up toward fairfield and vacaville 90 in ukiah. so we're going to see those temperatures heating up as high pressure returns across the region. and that's going to give us a very warm weekend. and this high will be slow to move. so i do think that once the heat comes back it will last a while. and we take a look at morgan hill, our high today, 75 degrees and a slow climb in temperatures through the end of the week. but we do get a big boost in those highs into the first day of fall on sunday and monday. our first

full day of fall will be 96 degrees, so i know it's kind of backwards, but we're going to see one more spike in temperatures and hopefully that's it. but it will feel like summer as we officially welcome in fall and also warming up in san francisco. mike, you've got an incident as you exit the bay bridge. yeah. you talked about higher temperatures. it's cooler overnight. and so there may be the reason for this warming fire reported just off the bay bridge exit. fifth and harrison reports of that warming fire. chp doesn't sound like it's a major issue. we'll track that there is some slowing for the activity. no closures in place, but watch that. that's right near where we just pointed out. moscone center and dreamforce activity off howard. just a couple blocks away from there. meanwhile, getting into the city just generally slow across the bay bridge because of that increased volume slowing through richmond and building past golden gate fields. no big surprises for the north bay or highway four. south bay same thing, although there's another warming fire reported just off 680. back to you. thanks, mike. happening now. a
