"early today" starts right now. we begin in the middle east where for a second day, wireless devices detonated, they killed at least 20 and wounded hundreds. today at least 12 were killed including children. two u.s. officials say israel

was behind the attack. for the latest, let's go to claudio lavanga. what more do we know? >> reporter: good morning, frances. well, according to a news agency close to, or affiliated with hezbollah, on wednesday, just walkie-talkies across lebanon started exploding in people's hands. and, according to "the associated press," explosions were even heard at a funeral for people who were killed the day before when pagers exploded in people's hands all around lebanon. now according to the lebanese telecommunication ministry, all of these walkie-talkies were the same model produced by a japanese company called icon, which confirmed in the past it did ship some of its products in the middle east but only until ten years ago when they went out of production. so they can't confirm whether they were the original ones produced by them or perhaps they could have been counterfeit

products, replicas that could have been produced anywhere at any time. icon said all of the products exported abroad go through official distributors and through very strict security checks. and the ministry of lebanon telecommunications said they were not purchased through official distributors, and they were not licensed. all this information is very useful for investigators to find out where they came from. now israel has not confirmed that it is behind the attacks. there is a suspicion it is behind the attacks. u.s. officials believe israel is behind the back-to-back attacks. but the israeli defense minister, yoav gallant said the center of gravity is moving north to the border with lebanon, frances. >> claudio, thank you. federal officials say iranian hackers sent e-mails that included stolen material from the trump campaign to the former biden campaign. they added that there is no

information suggesting the recipients refplied. the now harris campaign says a few individuals were targeted with what looked like spam. former president trump commented on truth social claiming that this means vice president harris was illegally spying on the trump campaign. but federal agencies, including the fbi confirmed last month that iran was behind efforts to compromise both presidential campaigns. and they also accuse both russia and china of trying to interfere in the election as well. breaking news. police in kentucky believe the search for a dangerous gunman is over. a body has been found in laurel county, a week and a half after a shooting spree on the highway left five people seriously hurt. two civilians helped troopers find the body when they spotted vultures. >> there was about 50 vultures up there. so we got our boots on, started down over the hill, and got way down, i've had a cold for the

last five or six days. i can't smell nothing. and she'll all of a sudden said oh, god, i smell something. >> police believe the body belongs to the suspect, joseph couch, because of items they found. official identification is expected today. sean "diddy" combs will remain behind bars for now. the music mogul returned to a new york courtroom where he was denied bail again in his federal sex trafficking case. attorneys for combs argued that the brooklyn jail where he is being held has horrific conditions which are not appropriate for pretrial detention. the prosecutors say combs is a danger to the community and say they fear he would intimidate witnesses if released on bail. with this appeal denied, combs will remain in jail until his trial, which may not start for at least a year. harvey weinstein has pleaded not gylfiuilty to an additional crime charge in new york. he had emergency heart surgery earlier this month. he is now charged with the

sexual assault alleged to have happened in the spring of 2006. it comes about two months before a separate retrial. at least 80 women have accused weinstein of sexual harassment or assault. he has also been sentenced to 16 years in california for a rape in los angeles. weinstein denies any wrongdoing in all the cases. a powerful union made a surprising move this election season. the teamsters are refusing to endorse either presidential candidate. it's the first time they haven't backed a nominee since the mid '90s. garrett haake has the reaction. >> reporter: in a blow to vice president harris, the powerful teamsters union announcing it will make no endorsement in the 2024 presidential race. harris becoming the first democratic nominee not to win the backing of america's largest union in nearly three decades. the union releasing an internal poll showing 58% of its members support trump. 31% back harris. in a statement, writing it was, quote, left with few commitments

key interest rate by half a point on wednesday for the first time in four years. this as the fed spent years trying to whebring down inflati. kristine romans has the latist on what it means for your money. >> reporter: the federal reserve delivering a jolt to the u.s. economy. a half percentage point cut to its benchmark rate as inflation is making progress toward the target of 2%. fed chair jerome pouwell saying the economy is in good shape. >> inflation is coming down. the labor market is in a strong pace. we want to keep it there. >> reporter: and powell indicated rates are likely to come down further this year and next. the fed's campaign to rein in inflation which hit 9.1% in june 2022 drove borrowing costs for homes, cars and credit cards to their highest levels in decades. for families like ben and hayley williams, the hope is lower rates will help the household budget. they have almost $11,000 in
