final game in oakland. also vying for your vote the key battleground states where former president trump and vice president harris are making stops. this is today in the bay. good morning to you on this friday. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we're going to check in with mike for a look at that friday morning commute in just a bit. but let's talk about the forecast. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. yeah. we are looking at more of the same as yesterday's weather. and we are going to then see things heating up for the weekend. looking right now at palo alto, it's 59 degrees. we have a light wind. it's 57 in walnut creek and in san francisco, and we are in the low 60s in san jose. taking a look outside in san jose, we are going to start out with the temperature right at about 61 degrees and continue with some nice cool temperatures in the morning. but then as we go throughout the day, the sky quickly clears around 9 to 10:00 and i just disappeared. it must

have been the fog there. we're going to see highs in the upper 70s in san jose, 81 in dublin and 81 in martinez. lauren marcus. all right. thanks so much, kari. well, here's a heads up if you're driving through the tri valley this weekend. southbound 680 will be shut down between san ramon and dublin today in the bay's bob redell joining us live from near the dublin interchange. and, bob, this is one of three closures planned over the next several weeks right? correct. good morning marcus and laura. so caltrans can finish up overnight road work. let's put up a map so you can better understand the area. we're talking about. so starting at 9:00 tonight, caltrans will be shutting down the southbound direction of 680, not the northbound, just the southbound direction of 680 between al costa boulevard and the 586 80 interchange here in dublin, behind me. that will be until 4:00 monday morning. we've seen these closures before. it's possible that they could reopen before then, but the idea is, of course, to be reopened in time for the monday morning commute.
5:03 am
this is to give caltrans workers the freedom and time to repave that stretch of roadway without having to worry about traffic zipping by. caltrans are getting says they're getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time. by doing this, we actually managed to shrink 40 nights of nighttime closures into one weekend. caltrans says two more 680 closures are scheduled at the beginning and middle of next month. the overall repaving project of 680 will wrap up in december of 2026. we've also published an i-680 closure guide on our website, nbcbayarea.com. when you get to that website, just click on the i-680 closure that is on our homepage. trending bar reporting live here in dublin. bob redell today in the bay. all right, bob, thank you. let's check in with mike inouye. he's tracking some of those alternative routes that we can take, because i know a lot of folks need to get around all that. mike, i just happen to have my own guide for you right
5:04 am
here. so let's check it out. but do go to my social media as well as our website for more detailed information. this is the section bob is talking about. we're looking at southbound 680 coming toward 580 in dublin. that's the dublin interchange. those lanes will close off at the top of the screen there's al costa boulevard. let me show you a closer view of this map. the red arrow shows you the closure for 680 starting at 9 p.m, and then this yellow arrow shows you one option. you get off at alcazar, take san ramon road, which will likely get very crowded throughout the weekend. that is a major surface street, but it is not as much capacity as south 680, so that will be an issue. let's show you the bigger picture. this affects not just san ramon, but folks heading south into san ramon, out of walnut creek, heading through danville, alamo and the like. as you're heading that way, if you're going eventually to oakland or castro valley, you may want to avoid that entire area and just take to 24 highway 13 and back down to 580 or 880. if you're going to the coliseum. we talk about the a's having their final weekend there as well. if you're heading out to the rest of the area, just know that there will be congestion as you head south. there will be
5:05 am
access to the dublin interchange itself through the area. once you get past that minor closure, the northbound side will also have one lane closed, so prepare for that through san ramon as well. we'll follow the rest of your commute coming up. back over to you. all right. thanks, mike. mike gave us a lot of information, but if you missed any of it and you're going anywhere this weekend, we've posted more of that information about the closure, including maps, detours at nbcbayarea.com. all you have to do is click on the link in the trending bar. new overnight. at least one person is under arrest after a shooting in brentwood. it happened a little before 9:00 last night on sand creek road. police say a swat team helped make the arrest inside a home. others were also detained. one man was shot in the stomach. police say his injury is not considered life threatening. developing this morning down in southern california, eight firefighters are now in the hospital, six with serious injuries. this after a fire truck was involved in a rollover crash. it happened last night in irvine in orange county. the chp saying that the truck and another vehicle swerved, avoiding a ladder in the road, and that truck struck a

5:11 am
us to have more hours of sunlight in the winter. the days are longer because those sun rays are hitting south of the equator. but then the first day of spring and fall are the two days of the year when the lengths of daylight and darkness are the same. all across the globe. and if you've seen the forecast, the weather not yet setting the stage for the sweaters or changing leaves, we will take a look at what to expect in a few minutes for now, let's check in with mike with a look at where we can find some lower gas prices that we're trying, but latin for gas prices being higher is higher prices, right? i don't know, i don't know my latin. let's look over here though. what we found on gasbuddy.com are the best price in the bay area is one outlier in contra costa county for 19 concord valero on willow pass road. the best price in the south bay is 429. right now we'll call out sunnyvale's national petroleum on old san francisco road and the low is higher. in marin county. the best price there is 4.39. san

5:21 am
much of the bay area pretty much all the bay area is abnormally dry. we haven't yet entered into drought status, but we'll be watching that as we go into the next couple of weeks. even before our water year begins. so just keeping an eye on that. our temperatures today pretty much back to what we saw yesterday, with some low 80s for much of the north bay, low 90s for clear lake, some of the interior valleys are going to be slightly hotter compared to yesterday, with a high of 75 in fremont, as well as hayward, 77, in palo alto and san francisco headed for the upper 60s. now, as we take a look at tomorrow, this is when the heat starts to crank up. we're seeing a lot more of those upper 80s for concord and livermore and mid 80s for the north bay, but a few more of those low 90s from vacaville to fairfield, while the south county will be in the mid 80s and looking at 90 on sunday. now, we just talked about this sunday is our first day of fall, and it's going to feel more like
5:22 am
summer and it gets even more intense with some of that valley heat heading into monday. take a look at the changes in napa over the next ten days. we're going from highs in the 70s and 80s to upper 90s and we will have a very warm week ahead going into much of next week. those temperatures just come down slightly, so we are bracing for the high heat. turning back on the ac may be a while before we can really put on those sweaters and get a fall feel to our temperatures. and mike, you're starting with the view in san jose. yeah, it's unusual to start this early with any slowing in san jose, especially on a friday. but this camera showed a lot more lights just for a few seconds. i had it lined up so i kept the camera there. but good news is things are thinning out very quickly and there's no slowing on the sensors. this will show up with some more slowing in about 15 to 20 minutes. so even on a friday, we expect the first slowing as the burst of traffic comes in. approaching the airport on north 101, we have a crash approaching the carquinez bridge that's on the shoulder. no slowing, no injuries. but highway 37 just
5:23 am
sees these sensors change at mare island. pretty typical pattern there. we do still have slowing getting into san francisco for west 80. that central freeway work overnight continuing there should be picked up over the next few and over here this will pick up the volume. but right now we're at the minimum for vasco road, an easy drive out of contra costa county down to 580, which also moves very smoothly. a lighter friday out of the altamont pass. back to you. thank you. mike 522 this morning next here on today in the bay nbc bay area responds one viewer. about a thousand bucks and two companies doing zero. i'm consumer investigator chri

little bit of a surprise as we look to the maps closer up, you'll see no slowing there or on the sensors where the arrow is. that's about where our camera is. and an easy drive out of the altamont pass. great stuff here. it's over in the san francisco where there's continued build. getting off of the bay bridge and heading down toward the central freeway. i think the crew has finally cleared from the overnight project restricting lane access down toward 101 and into the city. but you do see that slower build, the metering lights likely going to get turned on about a regular time there, which might be unusual for a friday, so expect a little more slowing out of oakland at the top of the screen. we do have that slowing typical for highway 37 as well. getting out of vallejo, traveling west. back to you. well, happening today, a key hearing in the revival of a criminal case involving the death of a man detained by alameda police officers. mario gonzalez died back in 2021. this is after officers pinned him to the ground. alameda county's da at the time declined to charge those officers. well, da pamela price revived the case shortly after taking office in 2023. this past april, prosecutors
5:33 am
charged those officers with involuntary manslaughter. today, the defendants will argue the case should be tossed out for failing to meet the statute of limitations, in part because prosecutors never secured an arrest warrant. gonzalez supporters plan to gather outside the courthouse ahead of that hearing. the driver of a car that struck and killed a woman last night in san jose is said to be cooperating with police. it happened at stevens creek boulevard and hanson avenue, close to valley fair mall. the woman has not yet been identified. traffic was tied up in that area as police investigated. well, nearly a year after its cars were pulled from san francisco streets, cruise vehicles are again resuming. bay area operations, but this time it's in a different location. crews yesterday announced a small fleet of cars are now operating in sunnyvale and mountain view, but with some big differences here. for one, these vehicles are manned with human drivers and autonomous testing will not start until later this fall.
5:34 am
also, passengers will not be allowed until the company receives new permits. now, leaders in each city are enthused about the new partnership, but some residents are skeptical. i would honestly rather have them tested in san francisco, like you're driving in a more peaceful area. i don't know how you can really get an accurate gauge. at least a driverless car is better than driving drunk. but then also a driverless car could hit someone. you may remember late last year, regulators pulled the plug on cruise cars amidst allegations tied to tried to hide critical details in the investigation of a robotaxi dragging a woman who had been hit by another car in san francisco. cruise has since settled with that victim. new this morning caltrain rolling out new electric fleet. and it is a monumental shift today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco this morning and ginger riders are going to benefit. nice clean trains there. and it also helps the environment. that is very

true. good morning to you, laura. this moment has been seven years in the making. and tomorrow these electric trains are rolling out of the station, all of them. and we're going to talk about how this impacts a rider's daily commute. come next week. we've got dan lieberman from caltrain here to tell us. here to talk to us and tell us all about this. and, dan, i want to pull you in here. these trains are beautiful, by the way. i mean, they're very nice and clean as laura. just mentioned. but this really means something. it's a really nice shift environmentally. right. taking these diesel trains off the road means like removing 55,000 cars a year. absolutely this is a major impact. this this rail corridor has been in service for 160 years. it's the oldest running rail corridor west of the mississippi. and for the first time in that history is going to be 100% zero emissions starting tomorrow. this is a this is big for getting california's carbon footprint under control. and we couldn't be prouder. we're launching a clean, green and
5:36 am
serene system that everyone can enjoy. great. dan. well, let's talk about what the riders are going to enjoy on this train. let's take a walk here. i know you, you were talking to me about some of the screens, the new screens, the security features on this train. yes, we've got a we've got a digital display as well as cameras on board throughout the train. we have plugs under almost every forward facing seat and onboard wi-fi, which people can't get enough of. really exciting news. and this is in addition to trains that generally accelerate and decelerate faster, which allowed us to increase our level of service and also shrink travel times. just improving the rider experience across the board. and speaking of those travel times, i mean, they're going down. we're on a train that's leaving, that's supposed to leave at 630, right after 630, headed down to san jose. travel time to san jose used to be well over an hour. now, even for the local trains, it's just a little bit over an hour under an hour if you get express. yeah, the express gets from san francisco to san jose and 59 minutes the locals take about 75. those are some big time savings over before the great thing. our express is also now
5:37 am
serving 11 stations, as opposed to 7 or 8 in the past, so even more people can take advantage of that express service and even better on weekends we're doubling our amount of service. so we're going to be looking at half hourly trains for anyone trying to get somewhere on the weekends. okay sounds great. well, we're going to take a seat here because these, these are nice. you know, dan and i are going to continue to chat, have our morning coffee or something. and if you haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet, you can ride one of the electric trains tomorrow because there will be a party on these trains. and rides are free. absolutely. we're free all weekend to celebrate the launch of electrified service. in that time, we're we're throwing, as you mentioned, some launch parties. we're at palo alto tomorrow from 2 to 6, and on sunday we'll be in san mateo same time. check us out at caltrain.com/launch party for more details. all right. thanks. a lot, dan. free friday. well, it's going to be tomorrow, but the announcement is today on a friday. that couldn't get any better. thanks. we'll have more from you in the next hour, but for now, send it back to you
5:38 am
guys. hey, that's a pretty, pretty nice thing to learn about on a friday. yeah. free ride all weekend long. there you go. maybe headed up to the city. ginger, we can finally meet forn hour. there we go. i love it, i love it, all right, save me a seat. thanks. another great thing to learn about on a friday happening today. you can now get your hands on the newest apple iphone. iphone 16 was announced last week with some big changes, including the new i called apple intelligence. it's also said that the phone will have much better cameras in the past versions. prices start at 7.99, and the new apple watch and apple airpods for well. they are also set to hit stores today. i need my outfit for this one because happening today, octoberfest. coming here to the bay area. the beer extravaganza kicking off in san francisco. it's happening on front street, actually. the city's first entertainment zone. it was made possible by new california law passed last year, giving bars

and restaurants one time permits to sell alcohol outdoors during special events like oktoberfest. this is something that's been hosted by schroders for years. they're the oldest bavarian beer hall in downtown san francisco, and because of this new entertainment zone, legislation that's been passed, it's just going to be bigger and better than ever. we'll definitely be back for future years to come. the event is a collaboration between the mayor's office and the office of economic, workforce and development, along with downtown s.f. partnership. it starts at 2:00 this afternoon, so no doubt kara, we're going to see a lot of lederhosen out there. lots going on too, all around the city for the weekend. we have some great weather for oktoberfest or any of the live concerts, festivals. we have a lot of cultural celebrations in the city this weekend. it's going to be in the upper 60s today, tomorrow, 70 degrees, a little bit warmer and
5:40 am
that warming trend happens throughout the weekend. by sunday, still pretty nice. 76 degrees and mostly sunny. you may be heading to lafayette for the art and wine festival on saturday. it will be 83 degrees for that high temperature cooling down to the mid 50s, and then again on sunday. it's going to be still very nice, but warming up to the mid 80s. if your weekend plans take you to tahoe this weekend, expect a high of 69 degrees for today, 71 for tomorrow and then low 70s for sunday. really comfortable, but cooling down quickly as our lows head down to the upper 30s for the next couple of days. if you want to go to the beach this weekend, santa cruz is going to be a bit chilly, only seeing those highs in the low 60s. over the next couple of days. we will have a lot of low clouds and fog that will be slow to clear, and then overnight lows dipping down into the lower 50s. now, if you're going to sonoma valley, that's where you can find some much warmer weather. a little bit of a last celebration of

summer. we are going to see the high on saturday, up to 85 degrees and 87 on sunday. mike's looking out for delays for this weekend. yeah, and you'll have some. in fact, we have some delay right now getting into san francisco related to that central freeway project. we'll talk about in a second, though the freeway is still open. getting into and through san francisco. it's still open now here as well. coming through san ramon. but tonight about 9 p.m, you're going to want to avoid it for there the entire weekend. this portion of 680 from acosta down to the dublin interchange will be restricted and basically shut down at various points through the area. you're going to want to use san ramon road as one of your surface street options. that will get crowded as well. allow extra time traveling south out of danville, out of walnut creek. if you're heading down in toward the south bay, using, for example, the 680 corridor. others may want to completely avoid that, taking 24 to highway 13 or even over to 880. that might come into handy for folks who are traveling there over the weekend, tonight and through the weekend. the a's have their last home stand. it's over off of 880, which you can
5:42 am
access. you can access 880 coming up 24 and getting over into the maze heading south there. that does keep you away from that closure in san ramon. watch for the area around the city and as we talked about, there's still lane restrictions that look like they're going on getting toward the central freeway still quite slow, and it's causing slowing off of the bay bridge. remember that moscone center, even though dreamforce is officially over, as far as the activities in the actual conference itself, there's still closure on howard and lots of activity around the vicinity of moscone center. watch for lane restrictions. back to you. thank you. mike. well, a farmers market for cannabis head for you here on today in the bay. the cannabis market and festival taking place in the north bay also, the message organizers hope to get across to the community. plus, the g.o.a.t. coming to the south bay. everything you need to know about the gold over america tour. but first, our school shoutout series comes from a fourth grade class in walnut creek today. i'm miss chapel from indian valley elementary

school and this is my fourth grade class. good morning, bay area and we know two of those cute little faces in the way. one of our production manager's children is in that class. hey, don't forget your kids can be a part of the school. shout out as well. all you have to do is have the class shoot a video just like the one you saw. you send it to us. it's going to be school. shout out at nbc uni dot com and you can see it right here. we have those pretty much every friday during the school year. so make sure you send it in. and remember good morning y areaba

it's only going to see some peaks of sunshine around noon to the early afternoon, and temperatures headed for the low 60s, and we're going to see a nice little warm up going into the weekend. the valleys will get hot, so we'll take a look at all of our microclimates coming up. and from emeryville, you see those fog and clouds over across in the city. but in the foreground you see the slow drive. nothing reported on the span for the bay bridge, but the eyes don't lie. we see the traffic jamming up, heading toward treasure island. i'll continue to check on things and show you a bigger picture of the affect coming up. thanks so muc, kari and mike. it's 546 right now. runners in the north bay taking the race. tough mudder to court. it comes after more than 100 competitors got sick. you'll
5:47 am
recall the race was held last year at sonoma raceway. it's an obstacle course where people often crawl through mud. the county got over 100 reports of participants who had experienced rash, fever or vomiting. the county says the infections were caused by aeromonas, a bacteria sometimes found in untreated water. a southern california man now suing tough mudder, which was owned by spartan race incorporated, for negligence. his attorney says he's representing about 150 people who were sickened, mostly from the bay area. we reached out to tough mudder organizers but have not received a response. well, one of the bay area's most unusual conventions returns this weekend. maybe it's not that unusual to the bay area, but it is back with a new twist that will allow you to partake in sonoma county's hall of flowers cannabis market. it's getting underway a few hours from now at the fairgrounds in santa rosa. as always, the trade show will include pot vendors, but this year, for the first time, the
5:48 am
general public also invited, but only for tomorrow's events. organizers say that it will include added attractions meant to ensure that the festival is about more than just cannabis. the person in the friend group that's really like super passionate about cannabis, they could bring their friends and there was other stuff to do, right? so we have included in your ticket price. we have free carnaval rides, free games. we've built a movie theater, we've built six different art installations. we have a stage with djs and art all day long. we have the food experiences, you know, which again are not infused. so just normal, delicious food from the chefs all over the country. there you have it. general admission for those tickets for tomorrow's festival are starting. are still available. they're there starting at $75. what better way to celebrate team usa's olympic gymnastics triumph than with the greatest of all time herself? and you can do it tomorrow night when the g.o.a.t. tour descends on sap center. it's actually called the gold over america
5:49 am
tour, and it's a gymnastics extravaganza. 11 time olympic medalist simone biles is one of the gymnasts taking part, along with two of her recent teammates, jordan chiles and jade carey. biles explains how she came up with the tour name. my friend actually made the name for the tour because we were kind of stuck on it for a while, so we're like, what can we do? so it's an acronym for gold over america tour. g.o.a.t. and i just thought that was perfect. and i was like, absolutely, because it's not about winning medals. it's really about each and every one of us have a story to tell, and each of each and every one of us have a piece of gold inside of us. we just have to figure out what that is and let it shine. got to chisel away and find it. hers was easy to spot. the tour started earlier this week in southern california. it will stop in 30 cities over the next seven weeks. tickets for tomorrow night show start at $50, so a lot of fun. yeah, well, also this weekend the niners taking on the rams in sunday in la but more feel like probably levi's stadium with all the fans that flock there. the niners love to
5:50 am
travel to l.a. yeah. so the team they will actually try to bounce back from a rough outing in minnesota last sunday. nbc, bay area and telemundo 48. carlos eustis is here with us for a preview this morning. and carlos, the niners may be without three of its biggest stars. yeah that's right marcus. laura, thank you for having me. and as you said, we reached the third week of this nfl season. the niners, as you said, it has a one and one record. they defeated the new york jets in week one. and then they pick up their first loss in minnesota. and this week they have their first divisional match up in the face of the l.a. rams at sofi stadium. and plaza has been good for the niners. however, the week started with some bad news for san francisco. the team informed that deebo samuel will not be available for this game. niners head coach kyle shanahan told us that deebo has a calf strain and he will be out against the rams. the 49ers are already missing their superstar running back christian mccaffrey, who was placed in the injury reserve last week and will be sidelined for at least four weeks. and to make matters worse, the team also informed that their star tight end george kittle and the number one corner charvarius ward, did not
5:51 am
practice yesterday because kittle felt some tightness in his hamstring while ward was just sore. overall however, even though both are questionable, there is still a possibility they could play on sunday. but if there's a team suffering with more injuries than the niners, that's the l.a. rams. the southern california team lost their star wide receiver cooper kupp last week with an ankle injury and prior to that, they were already without their second standout receiver puka nacua. they started tight end tyler higbee, three of their starting offensive linemen and at least six players in the secondary have injuries besides the notorious absences in the rams roster. the niners will also try to take home or take advantage of home advantage, and that's expected that at least 63% of sofi stadium will be dressed in red and gold on sunday. the niners are undefeated at sofi stadium in regular season play since the building opened in 2020. the only san francisco loss in la since 2009 happened in 2021, when the niners lost the nfc championship. and of course, don't forget that you can join
5:52 am
rod brooks and former niners safety donte whitner for complete sports bay area. and we also have all the postgame show coverage. obviously, also in telemundo, we're the only spanish network in the bay area that covers all the teams in the bay area, and we'll have everything that happens before, during and after every nfl match, okay. and good thing you're not injured so that you could, you know, full spring ice skate. the air by a little bit. don't pull a hamstring leaving the set. okay. funny enough, i do have a pulled hamstring. oh, no, i don't have to run, so. good thing. all right, keep those vocal cords tight. right there we go. okay. well, we'll gingerly walk into the weekend. yeah, we are going to see a lot of changes here into the next couple of days. temperatures will be heating up. if you enjoyed the little taste of fall that we had to start out the week. that's about to end as we take a live look outside in dublin this morning. it's a busy friday. we're already seeing a lot of people up and out the door. we are starting out with some mid to upper seconds for
5:53 am
the east bay into the tri valley. it is 60 now in oakland and 52 degrees in calistoga, so there are some chilly temperatures. let's head to willow glen with a look at what to expect over the next few hours. we're hovering right at about 60 degrees and looking at some peeks of sunshine at 8:00. at 10:00, it's a little bit more sunny and all clear. at 11:00 at noon, it's at a really nice 72 degrees and temperatures warm today into the upper 70s here we're going to have another nice one and cooling down quickly for the evening. so if you're outdoors and going to dinner, a little bit later, bring the jacket. we're going to see highs anywhere from mid 60s near the coast to seeing the low 70s in oakland and some mid to upper 80s. as you make your way farther inland and temperatures get even hotter over the next couple of days. for those valleys headed for the upper 80s and low 90s san jose, looking at a high of 82. 80 in palo alto and 85 in napa. on sunday, it's even hotter, and the return of
5:54 am
those low to mid 90s for the inland east bay as well as the south county. and that's not even the hottest day in the forecast. unfortunately, it will peak on monday and we're looking at 98 degrees for walnut creek and then looking ahead to next week, those temperatures will be coming down quite a bit, but still will be a little bit warmer than what we typically like to see, even for the end of september into early august. so we're looking or october, i should say, looking at those highs in the upper 90s on monday. and then for san francisco, we have a weekend with a lot of 70s. and mike, you are tracking a delay across the bay bridge. yeah, there are no reports in the chp blotter about anything going on in. the construction report says everything should be clear on and across the bay bridge, except for eastbound, the lower deck getting out of the city. but look at this. this cluster of lights here. i've been seeing time from time to time, a cluster of flashing brake lights, as folks do tap their brakes across up the incline and
5:55 am
across in toward treasure island. the sensors also show a majority of the slowing right here as you enter the tunnel, which is what we saw on the live camera. but anything past there looks like it's completely cleared out and there's no backup yet at the bay bridge toll plaza. i don't think they had the need to turn on those metering lights any earlier than they typically do on a friday. the berkeley curve looks great. so does the maze and your typical slowing out of vallejo for highway 37 around mare island. this earlier crash still reported on the shoulder for south 680 heading down towards 780. not a problem for the bridges there. highway four shows a build up. typical timing there as you're heading down in toward the area, 680 moves smoothly out of walnut creek and 24 over in toward the caldecott tunnel is great. remember 680 has that closure starting at 9 p.m. tonight, right around that dublin interchange. but all morning things will be open and clear. and northbound 101 typical slowing in san jose. the first burst we see back to you. thanks mike. well, happening now a mystery surrounding dead ducks in milpitas. the city is working to figure out why some of the ducks are dying at hall memorial park. as of right now, about 12
5:56 am
to 14 ducks have died. city officials say that they are monitoring the water levels and working with the department of fish and wildlife. at this time, the police are not investigating. a family on the peninsula left heartbroken. this after their mother was killed in a crash. now they're left to pick up the pieces. ahead at 6:00, the way the community is coming together to support them. plus, vying for your vote. we're live in washington with the key battleground states where former president trump and vice president harris are honing in on this weekend. and don't forget nbc bay area streams 24/7. you can watch us wherever you'd like on roku or other streaming platforms. you're watching today in the bay

after a late night shooting. new details on the overnight investigation. it takes only 30 minutes for me to get to work out here, so even with crashes, it ends up taking an hour, so hopefully it doesn't impact it too much. a weekend traffic alert work is set to get underway on interstate 680 in
6:00 am
the east bay. we've got team coverage on the impact that it could have on your plans. plus, the final home stand at the coliseum. the emotional and bitter end nearing as a's fans prepare for the a's last game in oakland. this is today in the bay. sad to hear that, but happy it is friday. want to say good morning to you all? i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we're going to check in with mike because he's got the workarounds for that 680 closure we're expecting this weekend. plus a live report from bob redell. but first, yes, it's friday and it's the first day of fall on sunday, but it's not going to feel like it. no. we've been talking a lot about the heat cranking up and looking at some hotter temperatures for the inland valleys going into our weekend, but right now it's pretty even across the bay area with upper 50s and low 60s to start. mostly cloudy in napa we are going to see temperatures at 9:00 in the mid 50s. nice cool morning. and then at 1:00
