girlfriend. he says his career as an actor helps him tap into his character in the series. there are things that i, i think i've, i've known a big part of my life being an actor, because part of our job is to watch human behavior and replicate it in various mediums. but i think everybody does that in some way, shape or form. i just have the science to back it up now, and some of the terms that i could use to describe behavior and why things are rational or irrational. well, season two of the irrational kicks off one week from tonight on nbc. bay area. it airs at 10 p.m. i remember those communications classes where you had to, like, observe people. it was kind of fascinating. it is, you know, absolutely. mating habits. yes oh, interesting. well, yeah, we'd have to like, go to overlook. sorry, sorry. we need to get the forecast. okay it's going to be really hot today. that's what we've all been talking about. and it continues
5:20 am
with the peak of the heat today and tomorrow. we're starting out all clear in san francisco. and you know it's going to heat up in the city today. we're going to head across the bay to oakland to see how our temperature trend will shape up for us. so we're right now in the upper 60s as we head toward 7:00, 9:00, it's beginning to warm up a little bit, but still comfortable for any outdoor activities that you have going on. as we go throughout the day, take a look at our noontime temperature 87 degrees with a light wind, and we're going to see those highs headed for the mid to upper 90s here 94 degrees for a couple of hours between 3 and 4:00 and then into the upper 80s by 6:00. the good thing about this time of year, even when we get these big spikes in temperatures, our overnight hours cool down quite a bit. so there is a wide range in temperatures from the morning to the afternoon, but it will be unbearable for several hours today with concord high 108 degrees. that may set a new record there. and we're also
5:21 am
watching out for the potential of record highs across the north bay, santa rosa topping out at 104. and it will also be very notable that san francisco will be in the mid 90s, and there may be parts of the city closer to 100 degrees. we are just as hot tomorrow. so the heat risk and how this affects your health will get even more extreme as we're looking at a high of 107 in los gatos, we're back to 100 in fremont and in san jose, and it's really not any cooler tomorrow. in fact, it may be slightly hotter in some spots, like gilroy. look at that 112 degrees. so yes, it's going to be dangerous tomorrow. and once again, it's really not easing up on thursday either. we're in the mid 80s in san francisco and up to 104 in concord. and looking at 105 in san martin. so let's take a look at concord and what to expect. we are going to see more of these hot temperatures
5:22 am
into the weekend, with a high of 100 on saturday, 99 on sunday, and then maybe by the middle of next week, those temperatures will start to get a little bit better. but this will be a prolonged heat wave that we have to deal with. with our overnight lows in the mid 60s. while san francisco will see a high in the 90s, today, we're still looking at some warm weather for the next few days, and mike tuesday is off to a pleasant start for you. a very pleasant start right now we're looking at 80 through fremont. great drive past the truck scales. there was an early morning crash there. then moved to the shoulder. looks like everything's cleared up nicely. it's been an hour since that was reported out of lanes, but we still have it marked on the map right here. there's maybe some activity. south bay 87 moving smoothly. there may be an incident just off of that highway. we'll check guadalupe itself in the updates as they come in from chp through the area. a little blip right here. highway four, maybe the start of some slowing. we do see that for highway 37. right on schedule coming over here through the maze toward the bay bridge. no

surprises. a little bit of a build there. and all transit agencies are reporting no delays. remember, spare the air and the status today. we want to make sure we can reduce as best we can. back to you. we'll check back in. thanks, mike. coming up next on today in the bay nbc bay area responds. hurricane helene created headaches back east, plus thousands of used car lemons that might be headed west. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura, a warning for car buyers

a day with us. i'm laura garcia, and i'm ginger conejero saab. the heat is on. we're going to take a look outside. a live look outside for another day of triple digit heat that is set to take hold of the bay area. so let's get straight to meteorologist kari hall. timing it out, including this lingering fire danger. yeah. we normally don't show san francisco when we're talking about the heat, but today, it's not excluded from all of the high heat that we are going to see across the
5:31 am
bay area. we are starting out with a cool morning, a little bit of time to open up the windows, let the house cool down, close them by 8:00 because already the temperatures will start to heat up and we may be setting some records today in santa rosa, 104 degrees is our expected high temperature. the record is 101. in san francisco will be very close to a record high. heading up to 94 degrees, there may be parts of the city that's hotter. and in oakland, 97 today, that would definitely break the old record of 94. in livermore, 104 today, san jose 100 degrees. so a lot of these numbers may be reset today. and we're looking at not only the excessive heat but unhealthy air quality and also the elevated fire danger. so for now, let's head over to our bob redell live in livermore closely monitoring the heat. and also that psps that we heard about yesterday from pg&e. correct. the public
5:32 am
safety power shut offs. we're not expecting any of those here in the east bay. we're outside the robert livermore community center's community pool behind me, which opens actually at 6:00 this morning. we expect that this will be a very popular spot for people here in livermore today, as many community pools will be open. and that's a place where people will be wanting to cool off. livermore expected to hit 99 degrees today as this heat advisory as you mentioned, carey in effect until tomorrow night at the earliest in the north bay. you're talking about those speeds up pg&e still warning about the possibility of public safety, public power shut offs over concerns that the winds could rattle power lines and spark a wildfire. the utility has given notice to more than 140 pg&e customers in northwest napa county to be ready for no electricity. they still have power, but the fact that it could be turned off still a possibility. pg&e had also warned hundreds of customers in contra costa and
5:33 am
alameda counties about the same thing, but the winds weren't as bad as they are here in the east bay, so the agency did cancel those warnings. so in addition to the heat, the other thing we're concerned with right now is just the wind and the humidity with the, the breeze that we're anticipating. it is likely going to get stronger and gusty in those upper elevations. it would not surprise us if we see a red flag warning issued by the national weather service in the north bay mountains. he's a division fire chief with the santa rosa fire department, reminding everyone to limit any sort of outdoor activity that could lead to a wildfire in this hot weather, like using gasoline, power tools near dry brush. now, this was the scene last night in concord where a fire broke out off ignacio valley road and cal roads. no damage to any structures, but the fire department tells us it was dangerous for firefighters as they were having to work in temperatures that were around 95 degrees, and with all that turnout gear, you can imagine
5:34 am
just how exhausting that must be. reporting live here in livermore. bob redell today in the bay. yeah, no doubt. easily dehydrated as well. a great tool to track these temperatures and possible power shutoffs is our free nbc bay area app. there you can track how hot it is expected to get in your neighborhood. you can find it at your local app store. checking that morning commute with mike out there, folks, up and out the door. yeah, it's tuesday, so we expect a bigger volume. that's what we see right now in san jose. it is starting to ramp up the volume and we see the speeds dip just a bit as that volume increases for just the next 15 or 20 minutes. if we stay on schedule here this earlier crash, again, there may be one cruiser over on the shoulder, 880 southbound around the truck scales just south of auto mall. a little build here. north 680. still might have a crew heading up past bernal, but 84 shows a little build coming out of the tri-valley. there is a crash registering on highway four in the commute direction. going to be adding to the slowdown at port chicago highway. think everything should be off to the shoulder a

distraction there is the bills showing up though. coming into concord out of pittsburgh and bay point. that's for contra costa county. no other problems. the north bay has your typical slowing for the westbound 37, and there's a build on the incline for the bay bridge. back to you. thank you. mike. new overnight a midnight deadline came and went. and this morning port workers from texas to maine are now on strike. this is the first longshoremen strike in nearly 50 years. the strike is bringing the deliveries of everything from produce to auto parts to a standstill. experts say it could cost the u.s. economy more than $4 billion per day, leading to longer and more costly shipping routes that will be passed on to consumers. west coast ports, including the port of oakland, are not expected to feel the impact. talking a little baseball here, the giants offseason just started, but fans this morning waking up to a big change in the top brass. farhan zaidi is out and buster posey is in as the president of baseball
