morning. we will begin with a potential economic crisis averted. u.s. ports getting back on track this morning after dock workers struck a tentative deal to end their strike. nbc senior business correspondent christine romans has been all over this story. >> yes. starting today. tens of thousands of union workers will return back to work. it's good news because a shutdown could cost the u.s. economy $4.5 billion a day and led to a shortage of goods before the holiday season. they reached a tentative agreement on wages and agreed to extend the master contract until january 15th. that's when they said they will return to the bargaining table to negotiate all the other outstanding issues. sources tell nbc deal, there is is wage increase that will raise the wage to just over $63 an

hour over that six-year deal. nbc news reached out to the union for any more details, but have not heard back. president biden reacting to this deal, applauding the news, applauding both sides for coming together for reopening these ports stating thursday's tentative deal represents critical progress towards a strong project. >> there are these outstanding issues, which sounds like trouble. what does that include? >> one of the biggest concerns is port automation, which is still under negotiation. there is a big urgency here to project their job against this fast-moving technology. but, guys, the timing here is

and former president obama will start a campaign blitz. thank you. three former memphis police officers were convicted yesterday in the 2023 fatal beats of tyree nichols. they were acquitted of the harshest charges they faced. jurors deliberated after coming back for a mixed verdict. all three were convicted of witness tampering, but bean and smith were acquitted of civil rights charges. haley was convicted on a charge of causing bodily injury. their sentencing is scheduled for january. israel unleashing a new wave of air strikes across lebanon on one -- on the underground bunker in beirut, targeting senior leaders of hezbollah. richard engel joins us now with the latest here. hey, richard. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, hoda. iran's foreign minister arrived in beirut shortly after those very intense air strikes in the city by israel, as the evacuation of foreign nationals

from beirut is continuing, as israel is intensifying both its air and ground wars here in lebanon. no one in beirut had a quiet night. buildings shook across the city as israeli war planes carried out at least ten strikes on what an israeli official tells nbc news was a meeting of hezbollah leaders in an underground bunker including the group's likely successor. witnesses describe the air strikes near the beirut airport as the biggest since israel killed their secretary general a week ago. israel is also pummelling south lebanon. >> you get a sense of how powerful this blast might have been just by how much debris there is. >> reporter: the israeli military says its goal is to create a buffer zone across the south, free of hezbollah. >> reporter: this building here took a district hit by what appears to have been an israeli air strike, completely

destroying it. this morning the military ordered more evacuations, telling the people of more than 20 villages to head north. weakened and under attack, hezbollah remains intact. i spoke to a hezbollah political leader. >> the world is waiting for israel to respond. what is hezbollah looking at as it sees what could be coming soon? >> reporter: if the israelis want to retaliate on iran, the iranians will know how to handle it. we in the resistance here do our duty. the idf this morning released new footage of israeli troops in lebanon, a sign a wider israeli offensive may be coming. the chief of staff said the mission is to destroy hezbollah's capabilities and prevent the group from operating in south and east lebanon and beirut. iran's supreme leader made a rare appearance today, speaking in teheran, leading friday prayers for the first time in

the d.a. says he's not going to pass judgment on how the case was handled in the '90s. but said there is no question there would have been a greater level of sensitivity today if the trial were to happen now. we just received a statement from one of the attorneys saying he is encouraged that the d.a. is looking into the case so earnestly. >> the sexual abuse defense was a big part of the case and fully litigated. what are they saying should be handled differently? >> so there is a letter from 1988 that one of the brothers wrote a cousin. they're saying that letter, had it been part of the trial, it would have shown that he was indeed sexually abused by his brother. i call it the three rs. what they're looking at right now is that, a, they could be released. they could be resentenced or potentially retried. you heard ryan murphy himself saying, look, you know, this is really back in the spotlight with my show on netflix. you have people like kim kardashian advocating. the d.a. said they are looking

this is good news. >> reporter: tens of thousands of union workers will return back to work after heading to the picket line on good news because the shutdown good news since the shutdown could cost the u.s. economy up to $4.5 billion a day. the union released a statement on thursday expressing they've reached a tentative agreement on wages, and have agreed to extend the master contract until january 15th next year. that's when they said they'll return to the bargaining table so they have another round of negotiations here on other outstanding issues. here's what we know. sources telling cnbc that under this tentative agreement, workers will see a nearly 62% wage hike over the course of six years. they originally asked for 77%. this increase could increase it to 63 bucks an hour. that's an increase from $39. president besiden applauding bo sides for coming together, and saying that leads to a strong

on our plaza in 2022. this morning his wife is here to share her story, and the doctors have called it a miracle. >> that's right. she was a healthy 38-year-old mother of three when what she thought was a bad migraine turned out to be a life-threatening situation. after emergency surgery to prevent three brain aneurysms from rupturing, she is ready to share her story and spread awareness. >> she's here with us, along with dr. john torres. first of all, welcome. this started off with what a lot of women feel. it is a headache. something is kind of bugging me. but how did you know this was something else? >> honestly, i didn't. i went to bed with a headache the night before, and i was speaking to my husband, and i said to him, i can't even see you on facetime. my eye, it is like my left eye is going blind. just talk to me. so i took an -- after that i

took a tylenol and i went to bed. >> you have three kids. you're like, i'm busy. >> so the following day i woke up with the same headache. my eye was still bothering he, and i had tension in my neck. i decided to call my doctor. she was like, fran, go get an mri. i was like, okay, fine. this was wednesday. i went friday. and he goes, i need you to go back and get it re-done because we didn't like what we saw. so we need to see very clearly with contrast and make sure everything is okay. obviously i'm like freaking out because i'm thinking, oh, my god. do i have a tumor or something? you start thinking crazy. so four hours later, he calls me back with a neurologist, a whole telehealth call.

he's like, you need to get surgery yet. he's like, you need to get surgery yesterday. this is nothing to be played with. you have two brain aneurysms. one of them is pushing on your optical nerve, which is why my eye is bothering me. >> you are so lucky to be alive because if you have an aneurysm, it can rupture at any time and most people don't survive it. >> your blood vessel is like a garden hose. if the garden hose has a weak spot, that can bubble out and press on parts of the brain. there is not a whole lot of room in there. it can rupture at any time. it can bleed very quickly and cause issues. >> so you caught it, and you had to go into surgery. and then what? what happened since? >> well, you know, you know, after something like that happens to you, you know, unfortunately for me, any time i have a little headache, it is like you live in fear. >> is it coming back? >> yeah.

is it coming back? did the doctor put the stents correctly? did they move? -- >> so you just kind of -- >> live in fear a little bit. >> yeah, yeah. >> how do you know between the ordinary headaches of life a someing that might be more serious that needs to be checked out? >> the best way to know. the one big thing is if this is the worst headache you have experienced, people describe it as a bomb went off in my head. if it is a headache that lasts 12 or 24 hours and doesn't get any better and starts to worsening, and importantly if there are any other symptoms associated with it. you can't see. you are not feeling something correctly, you are not talking right, any other symptoms, you need to get that checked out immediately. >> we're so happy you are here. this is an important message for people. >> yeah, it is. unfortunately, for women. 60% -- correct me if i'm wrong. but 60% of women, you know, we're more prone to getting a

called "salsa daddy." if we could buy books based on titles, i would buy four. big football game. we got some snacks. >> this is texas twinkies. these are stuffed jalapenos. they're amazing. it is a popper stuffed with cheese and smoked brisket. give it a rough chop. we have some cream cheese. we will dump in shredded cheddar. >> when you go to the market and buy these, what do we need to know about the average jalapeno? >> normally in the u.s. the heat level is going down. but all you need to do is take out the inside, the seeds. that will reduce it down to probably a mild level. >> something the average person could tolerate. >> but anything fatty is going t level is going down. bu to like, coat your tongue and numb the heat. >> okay, good. >> that's why we've got lots of fat here. >> we have the cream, the cream cheese.

>> garlic, some scallion. all you want to do is mix this in. once it's good and mixed, we will add the brisket. you can add roasted vegetables if you want to do it. >> did you give these a cook first? >> yeah. i find it is easier if you roast these 250 for about 30 minutes, they're a lot softer, and you can just go in. all you do is just open it up and then scoop the seeds out, just like that. >> right. that will make the room for the pocket. you will have the goodness inside there. >> exactly. so then we have the filling right here. if you can find bigger jalapenos, i think that's a little bit better. push the stuffing in. it's fine if it's exposed because we will wrap this in bacon. >> and you can actually just wrap them up in bacon. obviously. >> guys, talk to me about the texas twinkie. >> first of all, heat wrapped in

meat is great. >> it has a little bite, though. >> wrapping stuff in bacon doesn't always work. this works. what is the key there, rick? >> well, you can actually either smoke these. if you are in texas or you have a grill, you can throw these into a smoker. you get that nice smokey flavor. you can pan sere them. i like to keep them in the oven because i feel like it dries it out, gets it really crispy and soft. >> i think a bigger pepper would be easier to stuff. >> bigger peppers are great. when i was developing the recipe in mexico -- >> nothing more flavorable for that. let's get to the fries. >> we have a lot of boiling water. we will cook these three times. the first time is with salt,

water and just distilled white vinegar. >> why the vinegar? >> the vinegar will keep them from falling apart. they will get nice and soft. but not fall apart and disintegrate. basically it is a five-minute blanch. we take them out and let them cool. then we cook them in a 250 degree oil another 5 to 7 minutes. these have already been cooked. then we crank up the heat to 350. this is how you get really super crispy fries. it is like a three-way cook. >> we have 30 seconds, chef. >> okay. this is the cheese sauce. i have a rue. we have a cayenne, paprika, cheddar, american. >> i was going to do velveeta, but you know. >> when does it come out? >> april 29th. >> all kinds of recipes?
