and do we can because here in erwin, the landscape has changed forever. this morning, the southeast still reeling from the devastation from hurricane helene. the death toll climbing to 220 with hundreds still missing. in asheville, residents are struggling to clean up the mud and debris and trying to salvage anything they can. >> everything was floating and then settles down and settles on top of each other. >> reporter: the health risks growing with thousands entering another day without clean water. >> we have been organizing water and food distribution. it has been people helping people here for many, many days. >> reporter: a week after the catastrophic floods in tennessee, some residents are still cut off. >> we had a community of 150 homes that didn't have power because the roads to get to them wasn't damaged, but gone.

hassan nasrallah, the leader of the lebanon-backed group hezbollah. israel has been hitting the hezbollah strong hold neighborhood multiple times a day. now, we can almost always hear the high pitched sound of israeli drones overhead. they targeted the successor yesterday. we don't know if he was killed yet, but it is sending a group that israel tends to decapitate hezbollah. meanwhile, we are still waiting to see the israel response when they launched 200 missiles and we heard a rare speech from the supreme leader at friday prayers in arabic instead of farcii.

ayatollah khomeini was clutching a rifle when he defended iran's attacks and said iran and allies won't back down. peter. >> matt bradley, thank you. with the one-year anniversary of the october 7th terror attack just two days away now, federal authorities are warning it could inspire violence on u.s. soil. in the announcement, the fbi and homeland security department said large public gatherings could be potential targets. law enforcement agencies across the country and in new york city are on high alert this weekend ramping up security at synagogues in advance of the anniversary and as well as the jewish high holidays. the agency is asking americans to report any suspicius activities to police. donald glover is cancelling the remainder of his tour due to a health issue.

the musician wrote on x he was hospitalized for an illness after his recent show in new orleans. he added, quote, as of now, i have have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal. glover did not disclose the illness, but did say all tickets to the canceled shows will be refunded. hope he is okay. it is time for the first check this of the forecast with angie lassman. >> we are watching an area in the gulf of mexico. now a tropical disturbance, but has a chance to develop into something. will it be a tropical depression or a tropical storm by the end of the weekend? we will have to watch and see. we will see additional rain for the state of florida. notice some of the spaghetti models taking it into the western portion of florida. it looks like no matter where the system's center is, we will likely see the potential for some additional heavy rain for state of florida.

this will start as we get into the later parts of today with precursor rain and ramp up in the middle of the week. what is it by the middle of the week? a tropical depression or hurricane. we will see. it does have a fuel to tap into with the gulf of mexico. with helene, this is something we talked about a lot where the waters are just running way warm for this time of year. helene did cool it down a little bit, but 2 to 4 degrees above average. it will encounter wind shear. that is not good for development. we have wind on the way. 3 to 5 inches of rain from tampa to points south. we know, of course, the storm surge and flooding concerns in the tampa bay area. folks still cleaning up. we have the potential to see over 8 inches of rain possible. this is something we will have to watch well into the middle of

fifth. i'm kira klapper. governor gavin newsom is giving a funding boost to bay area cities in an effort to help clear homeless encampments. the governor approved nearly $131 million to be given to 18 cities across california. those include san francisco, san jose, berkeley and antioch. the goal is to move the unhoused out of encampments and into transitional housing. the governor says that it will take a team effort between the state and the cities to fully address the homeless crisis. the state vision is realized at the local level. localism is determinative in terms of our success, and the state's efforts only matters as far as local government participates in partnership with the state to advance our collective goals. this comes three months after governor newsom issued an executive order requiring state agencies to clear encampments on state land.

he also told cities and counties to clear encampments in their communities or lose federal funding beginning next year. well, we continue this hot heat. cinthia pimentel has a look at our microclimate forecast. yeah, that's absolutely correct. we are under a microclimate weather alert once again as we wake up this morning, a little bit warmer than we had yesterday. the return of that heat is going to amplify as we go on throughout the day. notice some very warm temperatures on the board. already 71, in orinda, 72 tracey and 79 atlas peak. that's up there in napa county, some 50s and 60s in between. but as we go throughout the morning, you might feel a little bit of the breeze. something to watch, because we do have this red flag warning that goes in for the east bay hills down the santa cruz mountains. that's until later on. this morning. so some very bone dry conditions along with that heat is not a good recipe. you don't want to do anything to that to damage our air quality even more. we're in

we're back this saturday morning with our series lend a hand where we look at ways to help people going through the worst times in their lives. >> so often people want to do something in the wake of the disasters of hurricane helene, but not sure where to start. >> we are bringing in the representative from team rubicon. jeff, good morning. you respond to tragedies all around the globe. what's the situation with water and power there? >> yes, good morning. thank you for having us. it's a great day to be a gray shirt. we have teams from florida, you know, all the way up the coast, to here in asheville. right now, we're in asheville and, you know, the primary focus for the city is the water situation. obviously, there's power outages. power is coming back on in a lot of places, but the water still remains a priority here in

asheville. >> it is pretty stunning to see the pictures next to you, the side of that, the car or tractor, just on its side right now. when you got there and saw the situation, what was your instinct when you saw what it looked like in asheville? >> well, you know, it's not just asheville. i personally started in florida on friday of last week following the storm up and getting our teams in the field. meeting the needs that we can meet. this is clearly a disaster where the needs outpace the resources. we are in a disaster that we'll be in for a long time. this is a marathon. this will not be over in the next week, month or in some cases, years, in places. >> what are the needs? what advice do you have for those watching at home who want to help? >> right now, the best help you can do, if you can, donate. donate to a trusted organization. team rubicon is a great organization. there are others out there. we are doing good work.

i'm kira klapper a traffic alert for commuters heading into san francisco. it's a full weekend closure of the central freeway connector ramp. it's that portion of northbound 101 that goes from the freeway and ends at market street in san francisco. the map on your screen shows the closure. caltrans crews are making emergency repairs to the freeway barrier rails. all lanes of the connector ramp closed last night at ten, and will open in time for the monday morning commute.

peter. >> allie raffa reporting from the white house this moncht thank you. the vice president will witness firsthand what hundreds of thousands of residents are living through right now, no water, no power, a massive amount of cleanup to still get to. nbc's jesse kirsch is in north carolina with the latest on how residents are recovering. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. to give you perspective where i'm standing right now the water level at one point based on what i'm seeing on the side of the building would have been to around my waist. you can see behind me still all of this standing water and look at the debris off to the side here, the tires on this truck partially submerged. this is one of the scenes in and around the ashville area. i can tell you that we are starting to see signs of power restoration here. we saw lights on this morning, traffic lights included, but there are still more than 185,000 power outages reported in this state, north carolina, alone. officials continue working to restore the power as well as water services, the death toll from helene has continued to
