i sit down with suki waterhouse for the drink. so many great stories to get on this monday. breaking news the major hurricane barrelling right now toward florida's gulf coast. >> hurricane milton is now a monster category five storm, at this hour milton is gaining strength in the gulf of mexico, it's forecasted to make landfall as early as wednesday evening, two weeks to the day that hurricane helene made landfall, devastating the sunshine state, making matters even worse, milton could hit in the exact same areas that are still recovering from helene. >> leftover debris from helene's wrath is one of the biggest threats from this new storm. 24-hour effort to clear out the metals so they don't become projectiles. >> leading us off this hour is jesse kirsch in sarasota, also with us is al roker, but jesse,
12:03 pm
we know that there evacuation orders already in effect for multiple counties, are people heeding those warnings and leaving? >> reporter: yeah, i can tell you, it largely feels as business as usual in downtown sarasota, the images of debris, guys, a slightly piece of debris, a boat that's partially sinking in the water behind me the kind of challenges that this community is facing beforehandfall, we're talking about the aftermath of hurricane helene, less than two weeks ago it made landfall in the same stretch of florida. sarasota, the possibility of twice as high of a storm surge in this city for example and the national hurricane center is describing milton as quote, ebs explosively intensified.
12:04 pm
this is a storm that people should be taking seriously. we go to get resources like other people, beyond the boarding up that we see, we go and get water and gas cans to be prepared. these resources seem to be running out or at least being grabbed up sooner rather than we'd see typically with a hurricane and whether that's because stores haven't been restocked fully from helene or people are getting ready that much faster here there's this sense that people are taking this seriously and getting things together. we're not seeing any kind of mass evacuation from this community at this point. all that debris still out there, they're working around the clock, even after cleanup crews have gone through areas, there are shattered glass on the ground and so it's going to be something to be paying attention to, what goes into the wind when this storm hits. >> yes, sir se, thank you.
12:05 pm
al, this storm surged in intensity, it's a category five, what are we looking at as far as the impact. >> massive, guys, unfortunately. right now much of florida under hurricane watches, tropical storm watches as well as this system gets itself together, visible picture right now, and you can see that eye really developing very, very clearly, that gives us the idea that this thing is still not done strengthening yet, 700 miles southwest of tampa, category five, it's moving to the east at nine miles per hour. making landfall as a category 3, hopefully some weakening happens. across much of florida as a hurricane, now the hurricane-force winds extend out 30 miles from the center of the storm but those tropical-force winds up to 70 miles per hour,
12:06 pm
upwards of 80 miles out from the center. storm surges, the thing we're most worried about, the surge could travel several miles inland anywhere from 5 to 12 feet. three feet it's almost impossible to walk around in, that rush of water. when you get to 6 feet of water, all of a sudden you got a whole different ball game. water breaking through windows. driving will be completely impossible. water will inundate that first floor. 10 feet, homes will get swept up. also we're talking about severe weather, 11 million people at risk stretching from daytona
12:07 pm
beach down to key west, several tornadoes possible, most likely and the rain, widespread flash and river flooding because we're talking about anywhere from 5 to 10 inches of rain, guys, before this is all over, we'll be talking about this into next week. there's going to be a long-term effect to this. we're just watching and waiting. >> it's striking, too, this path looks pretty, there's not a lot of variation right now. >> the last couple of hurricanes the national hurricane center has been spot-on the only variable is the prediction of the hurricane intensity, because we've seen this rapid intensification, time and time again they're still having a little time getting their hands around it. today marks one year since hamas' horrific terror attacks on israel, memorials are being held in israel and around the

blockade in gaza, the military occupation in the west bank, as calls around the world grow for a two-state solution here there's as you said early no end in sight to this war, there's seemingly no progress on a cease-fire deal. hostages continue to be held by hamas. >> danielle, to that end, the war, october 7th attack ignited has only intensified. overnight the israeli military continued to hammer beirut as the military issued a new evacuation order in southern gaza, walk us through the latest today as we're marking this day. >> reporter: so, in gaza, israel stepping up its ground and air attacks the death toll in the past 24 hours, at least 62. this as israeli tanks moving closer into the refugee camp,

once again expand evacuation orders. hamas launched missiles towards tel aviv, we can hear the boom of the iron dome intercepting those missiles and that's essentially hamas telling israel and the world they're still there, still standing and still a threat to israel a year on. over to the north, projectiles from hezbollah, israel stepping up its bombing of southern lebanon and claiming that it hit 120 targets within an hour, this at one point 2 million people in lebanon now displaced. >> danielle, thank you. coming up, we'll speak with the parents of an israeli american hostage still in hamas captivity. their powerful message during this difficult time. today's money minute. panera bread just settled a lawsuit over their charged lemonade. >> steve joins us now.

12:20 pm
hostages were a priority, all of a sudden right now israelis fighting in lebanon need to retaliate to iran. all of a sudden we all see that iran plays a much bigger role and shows its true nature as the leader of these proxies. israel has to deal with all these risks and dangers around it, yet we believe the hostages are the most critical as the key to bringing the whole region into a much better place because once the hostages are back, cease-fire with gaza, people can rebuild their lives, hezbollah in the north will stop and we can start to see some, all this conflict basically slowly find its way. its way. >> our thanks to (♪♪) “the darkness of bipolar depression made me feel like life was moving on without me. then i found a chance to let in the lyte.”
