founded in san francisco, but will they be able to soar to the skies tomorrow? meteorologist rob mayeda is tracking conditions for the final day of fleet week and remembering the fallen firefighters killed in the line of duty honored today at the state capitol. the moving tribute to honor those who sacrificed their lives in the name of safety. plus, with less than a month to go until the november election, advocates are encouraging early voting. the final push from the presidential campaigns ahead of election day. good evening, and thanks for joining us for this special edition of nbc bay area. i'm gia vang and i'm terry mcsweeney. a lot of people headed to san francisco for the fleet week air show today, and they wound up disappointed. yeah, the ever popular blue angels, they did not get to perform their maneuvers because of the fog. nbc bay area's alyssa gore joining us live in san francisco, and alyssa, not what

fans were hoping for. gia and terry, the crowd pleasing blue angels event that so many fans were expecting today was called off, but you wouldn't know it with the number of people that were packed into san francisco today. fleet week organizers said that the blue angels went up for an observation flight and determined that it was just too foggy to fly. so they're part of the airshow was called off at around 330, but the crowds actually stuck around for many of the other fleet week activities. pier 39 was packed with people checking out the military ships docked there and listening to a navy rock band performing businesses around pier 39 tell us they've seen a surge in visitors this week so far. just looking around and where we're at right now, it's actually an increase over previous years for us. it's been very positive. and the festivities continue tomorrow with another air show and weather permitting, the blue angels are expected to take to

the skies. live in san francisco alyssa goard nbc, bay area news. all right, alyssa, thank you very much. meteorologist rob mayeda is here, and it didn't happen today, but everybody is hoping it's going to happen tomorrow. the trend should be better tomorrow afternoon, but right now you wouldn't want to see this. we got the blanket of low clouds right over downtown san francisco. and through the first half of tomorrow. notice how far inland those low clouds are all the way through. about lunchtime. you still have the patchy, low clouds. but unlike what we had today around 3:00, we should begin to see some of the low clouds breaking up around the bay. so we'll go from a drizzly, cloudy start to the morning. then around flight tim, another flight time decision 3:00 partly cloudy skies, a little fog west of the golden gate bridge, but hopefully some clearing, unlike what we had out there today. so we'll talk more about the drizzle. we'll see for tomorrow morning. mild temperatures through the middle part of the week. but later on in the 7-day forecast, got a chance of some showers and possibly some dry offshore winds. something to watch

one of them did not survive. paramedics rushed those three people to the hospital, as well as three people who were in the outback. all northbound lanes were closed for several hours, while police investigated. just into our newsroom, berkeley police are asking for your help finding this missing 13 year old girl, saphira sykes, last seen yesterday afternoon at a mcdonald's along shattuck avenue. she was wearing a black sweatshirt, ripped jeans and black and white vans shoes and carrying a black backpack. anyone who knows where she may be asked to call berkeley police. florida is reeling in the wake of powerful hurricane milton tonight. the priorities are restoring power, cleaning up debris and distributing fuel. at least 17 people are now confirmed dead due to the deadly storm's impact. and as we mentioned, restoring power to nearly 1.1 million customers still in the dark is the main concern. 3.5 million people woke up without power thursday after milton made landfall. now, parts of western and central florida continue to face the risk of

significant flooding as creeks and rivers continue to rise. more powerful images from the moments right after that storm hit. continuing to emerge tonight, crews rescued nearly 600 people from a flooded clearwater apartment complex thursday morning. that includes more than 115 children. you can imagine the scene. first responders first got the calls wednesday night, but had to delay rescue efforts because of the high winds. crews use high water vehicles to get everyone out of there. many were taken to shelters. so far, no timeline on when those people will be able to return home. well, thousands of people were in the state's capital today honoring 36 firefighters who died in the line of duty. the annual firefighters memorial ceremony happened. the event began with a ceremony at the convention center with families of fallen firefighters, along with state and local leaders. their family members were presented with a flag in their honor. the ceremony, followed by a procession to the memorial wall in capitol park. governor newsom was among many there to recognize those firefighters.

it's also true that states and nation not only reveal themselves by the people they produce, they reveal themselves ultimately by the people that they remember, the people they honor. the 36 names have been etched into the stone. the memorial wall looks a little different this year. ten extra limestone panels have been added. organizers believe it's enough extra namespace to last 100 more years. turning to decision 2024. with just 24 days to election day. both candidates hitting the campaign trail hard. former president trump in california today took a detour from battleground states to hold a rally in coachella. experts say there are at least two reasons for the stop in deep blue california. one is money. photos with the former president were $25,000 each. another is energizing local republicans to get out and vote for congressional candidates, and to do phone banking for trump in

contested states. temperatures at the event reached 100 degrees. several people were treated for heat related issues. the former president hit a number of familiar topics and called california a, quote, paradise lost because of democratic governance. the radical left democrats have destroyed this state, but we are going to save it, and we're going to make it better than ever before. yet i've come here today not only to talk about california, where you have one of the worst governors in the country, gavin newsom. mr. trump, due to travel back to arizona tomorrow for a rally in prescott valley. vice president kamala harris released a summary of her medical records today. the white house physician has deemed harris a healthy 59 year old female with a history of seasonal allergies and hives. the report also stated that harris eats a healthy diet and exercises regularly. presidential candidates typically release their medical records this afternoon. vp harris traveled to north carolina, stopping in raleigh to meet with voters before a rally

in greenville tomorrow. the latest polls show mr. trump has a slight edge over the vice president, with a north carolina voters, she told reporters before boarding air force two that she plans to tout the republican support she's gained. i will be talking about the fact that i have the support of republicans who work with both presidents bush, mitt romney, john mccain and donald trump, who are supporting my candidacy because they believe that it is important to put country above party. harris's rally in greenville is set for late tomorrow afternoon. in this final push to the general election, a lot of organizations here in the bay area are out in force, encouraging early voting in san jose. latino organizations teamed up for a rally encouraging early voter participation. the latino community foundation, siren and latino coalition of silicon valley were there. speakers ranged from elected officials to immigrant rights activists. organizers say they want everyone in the latino community

it says it's been subsidizing the community ski experience and operating at a deficit for many years. it can't go on. the owners have been trying to get approval for a project that would build dozens of ski in, ski out homes, a hotel and a grocery store. but environmental lawsuits have delayed those plans. so has pushback from the community, which does not want to see the historic spot turned into a private members only area. homewood says without a clear path forward, its financial partner has withdrawn its support for this ski season. homewood first opened in 1961 when the east bay. a celebration of indigenous culture on full display. today, indigenous peoples day on monday. but indigenous people in berkeley came together to honor their history and traditions today with a powwow and indian market. it happened at the martin luther king civic center park in berkeley. the market featured booths with food, gifts and arts

and crafts, and later many participated in the powwow with ceremonial dances, singers, drum players, and a traditional dance contest. one organizer says today's event also recognizes the city of berkeley's commitment to indigenous people. this is a very special powwow because this was actually the first time in u.s. history that a city actually took columbus day and changed it to indigenous peoples day to recognize the truth behind this day and the impact it's had on native american people. so this is actually a celebration of that time where berkeley took the first step and actually acknowledged indigenous people. and this is berkeley's 32nd annual indigenous peoples day powwow and indian markets. well, hey, technology helping visitors learn more about san jose's japantown. today, community leaders launched a new program. they're putting qr codes like the one you see right there on many japantown landmarks. so visitors just have to scan that qr code to hear historical information voiced by community

leaders. the qr codes also provide cultural history on the city's chinatown and filipino landmarks, too. the codes give information in 15 languages. the project was the brainchild of mia fujikawa, a fifth generation japanese american in san jose. it is fire prevention month here in california, and one city in the north bay is making sure its community stays prepared. dozens of families attended this open house at the benicia fire department today. firefighters were on hand to share safety tips, which included fire extinguisher demos, lessons on fire prevention and cpr training, other first responders like police and emts, were also there to talk to children and spread the word about fire safety. kids love fire trucks, but kids also love swat vehicles, pd vehicles. we have search and rescue dogs here for them to pet. benicia even has goats who graze in our hills to eat the weeds for fire prevention, so that fires don't spread as quickly. well done. other bay area fire departments

also held open houses, including san francisco fire. all of the city's fire stations were open to the public for people to stop by and check it out. very nice. all right. rob mayeda here. now, depending where you were benecia if you were at the firehouse, san francisco, you got different weather. yeah, a little bit of low clouds. actual measurable rainfall too. yes, we can talk about that in the north bay. in fact, out towards calistoga, santa rosa, close to a quarter inch of rain. although in the south bay you're not seeing much in the way of rain showers. but you do have the low clouds and mild temperatures. no signs of any triple digits like we saw earlier in the week. it's a little mild, though. in san jose, 71 degrees, some low clouds nearby. we'll take you over to walnut creek. currently 69 degrees and up towards san rafael. we've had a little bit of light rain at times 64 and into san francisco, and fortunately the blanket of low clouds which moved in during the afternoon. still there right now. areas of drizzle as we head into the morning. so rain totals here. san francisco about 100th of an inch of rain. just enough

to measure. but as you head up to calistoga, more than a quarter inch and some of the mountains northwestern sonoma county, we've had about a third to almost a half inch of rain on some of the mountain top locations here in northwestern sonoma county. not much south. that's kind of where the light rain showers have been throughout the day. but overnight tonight, all areas in the bay area will have a chance of drizzle that will take us into tomorrow morning and where the air shows concern. stay tuned. right now we should see more breaks in the clouds. decreasing clouds across the bay heading through tomorrow afternoon. so low clouds and drizzle to start the day. a lot of cloudy skies to start, sunshine to finish inland. upper 70s around san jose near 80. south of downtown tri-valley. looking pretty good. combination of upper 70s and low 80s. quite a change from last weekend's hundreds we had around the bay area. 68 degrees in san mateo with low clouds, san francisco upper 60s to near 70 with cloudy skies west of the golden gate bridge and around the north bay. numbers in the 70s to low 80s as the light rain begins to move

out. similar temperatures monday on into tuesday. but watch what happens once we get to wednesday. shower chances returning again and temperatures cool down. it doesn't look really well organized here in the futurecast wednesday into thursday, you see the opportunity for those scattered showers. now there could be an issue of what follows that chance. if low pressure drops as forecast east of the sierra down towards southern nevada and high pressure building in behind, it could put us in an offshore wind pattern. so after these mild conditions we've seen notice there the dryness and where those wind arrows could be pointing. late thursday into friday, you know, october we have to watch any opportunities for north and offshore wind. we might be seeing some of that later next week. but where your weekend is concerned, we should get a little more sunshine tomorrow with ongoing mild temperatures. there comes that wednesday chance of showers then stay tuned as we watch the wind later next week. and then

temperatures will be notably warmer. mid to upper 80s could be making a comeback just in time for next weekend. you know. talk about that rain. a friend of mine up in petaluma getting some serious rain and kind of weird first one in a while. it's good to have that during typically fire danger. yeah. ro. thanks. all right. well, there appears to be a big appetite for dumplings of all kinds in san francisco. and organizers of one festival learned that today, the world of dumplings festival garnered up to 8000 people at rincon center in the embarcadero. organizers with the group asians are strong say it's all about celebrating different cultures and communities through the shared love of dumplings. so people they could also take photos, watch food demos, of course. eat. there were more than 14 restaurant vendors serving up dumplings that originate in places like spain, nepal, italy, japan and china. who's that? that is my beautiful niece, vienna. look at her. she has the ones that originate from nepal. beautiful? yes, it was delicious too. and obviously,

serena uplifts young people from underrepresented communities such as through a poetry program she created let's go oakland, that is 17 year old serena griffin, one of ten young women across the country honored in the first ladies girls leading change program. the event at the white house thursday was in celebration of international day of the girl, and biden herself congratulated them for their leadership and accomplishments. serena is the founder of empower poets, a free after school program. she serves on a youth advisory council and is also berklee's vice youth poet laureate. a classic fall activity back in the east bay this weekend. check this out. the fremont harvest festival kicked off today at the ardenwood historic farm. dozens of families turning out
