now at six part of fleet week festivities. not going as planned. a crash landing at marina green which sent two people to the hospital. the race for the white house is tightening with just three weeks until election day. kamala harris and donald trump are now neck and neck. we're live in washington. following the final campaign push, just as a new security threat arises over the weekend. plus, a traffic nightmare in the south bay as one popular pumpkin patch draws thousands of visitors a day. the problem neighbors say it's creating. this is today in the bay. let's get you going this monday morning. good morning to you. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we'll check that morning commute with mike
6:01 am
in just a little bit. what about the forecast? here's meteorologist kari hall. still feeling like fall out there. so it's going to be another great day. we're starting out cool and in the upper 50s, low 60s all across the bay area. also mostly cloudy for now with a light wind as we take a look at some of our microclimates, a look at morgan hill where it is foggy. it's in the upper seconds, and we'll see that fog linger through about 9:00 and then starting to get some peeks of sunshine clearing as we go throughout the day. and nice and comfortable temperatures with our high there in the upper 70s. for palo alto, you can expect a high of 73 degrees and 80. in concord and upper 70s. today in napa we are going to see these temperatures continue, but then we'll throw on a rain chance. so we'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, you're tracking a hazard out of el cerrito. yes, a disabled semi truck with a trailer blocking one of your middle lanes. i've learned westbound 80. that's the reason for so much slowing coming up in through el cerrito clearing. by the time you pass by central
6:02 am
avenue. that's right where the merge comes in, off of the bridge from san rafael. that's eastbound 580. so we are looking at the upper east shore freeway, some slowing the build as well as that disabled vehicle at the bay bridge toll plaza. we see the slowing across the span. the toll plaza does have the metering lights on. and now we , indicating maybe a lighter volume of traffic on this holiday for some businesses as we get through town. meanwhile, the rest of the bay showing a pretty typical pattern this crash. no injuries, but it is north 101 right around 880. back to you. thanks, mike. well, the race for the white house is closing in. there's now 22 days until voters head to the polls on november 5th. a new nbc news national poll of registered voters shows that presidential race deadlocked at 48%. now vice president harris, as well as former president trump, are ramping up the campaign events across the country and another security concern is grabbing the headlines today in the bay's alice barr live in washington this morning with the latest for us, alice. good morning marcus.
6:03 am
we have been talking about just how close this race is and now this new nbc news polling is offering more proof as well as insight into what could potentially sway voters. as the presidential nominees pick up the pace on the campaign trail with your help, in 23 days, we will win. we will. we're going to win arizona, and we are going to defeat kamala. kamala. a new nbc news national poll of registered voters shows the race in a dead heat at 48%, indicating a slowdown for vice president harris after her popularity surged in the last nbc poll following a september debate. the poll points to a deep gender gap, with vice president harris leading with women by 14 points. one of the things that attracted me to her is that she was smart. and former president trump ahead with men by 16 points. he's he's
6:04 am
worked hard. he's created jobs. he's built businesses. margins remain razor thin in the critical battleground states. and on the issues the former president is seen as stronger in handling the economy and immigration. you know what i did? i called them up. i said, close the border while the vice president gets a boost on reproductive rights campaigning in north carolina, she highlighted her newly released medical records, including her physician, saying she's in excellent health, putting the pressure on mr. trump. he refuses to release his medical records that as federal authorities are investigating a new potential security threat, a man with guns in his vehicle was arrested saturday stopped at a checkpoint about a quarter mile from former president trump's rally site in coachella, california. a federal law enforcement official said there was no indication this was an assassination attempt. an official familiar with the situation said former president trump was not yet at the rally
6:05 am
site when that suspect was arrested. separately responding to vice president harris's comments about his medical records, a trump spokesperson said that the former president is in perfect health and pointed to his busy campaign schedule. both nominees are set to be on the trail today. you guessed it pennsylvania. back to you, marcus. yep. and it continues to go all right. alice barr in washington for us this morning. thank you. alice. 604 right now, pumpkin season is here. and that means thousands of people heading out to local pumpkin patches, spinner farms, pumpkin patch in morgan hill is seeing some 10,000 visitors. a day. certainly good for business, but the attraction spooking some neighbors who say they're tired of dealing with traffic gridlock on santa teresa boulevard. one neighbor spoke to us off camera. my biggest concern is access for the residents who live out here. we literally basically, if we
6:06 am
want to go somewhere, it takes us 30 minutes to get out someplace and it takes us an hour plus to get back in. what we're doing is we're making a road that they could cut across through the through the fields. we have over there. so local access road for the local farmers. our families. and so that's we're building that right now. we're flattening it out, grading it so that they can drive over it. and they could be able to get out and in without having to wait through all the traffic. that was operations manager danny estrada talking about their possible solution. he says the farm has also hired chp and sheriff's deputies to help with traffic control. they've also put up signs telling visitors not to park in residents driveways. but neighbors say there's another issue. johnny, be good tonight. go, go. neighbors say pumpkin blasters and amplified music impacts their sleep. they say the sound goes on until 9:00 at night. speaking of farms says it
6:07 am
adheres to county noise ordinances. well, now to a live look at our state capitol where today, governor gavin newsom's gas price bill is facing its final hurdle. now, the proposed bill would require oil refineries to maintain a minimum inventory level. now, this is supposed to prevent a spike in prices during peak driving months. the bill has been supported by several california mayors and other local leaders, but gas companies oppose it. they claim that the refineries are already full and that they don't have the tanks to hold the extra oil. state senate passed that bill last week. it's now moving on to the assembly for a final vote. governor newsom is expected to speak about this issue at 2:00 this afternoon. 607 right now, the skies over san francisco will be quiet today as fleet week winds down. while there are a few events happening today, the big news happened over the weekend when the blue angels took to the skies and a navy parachutist missed the mark. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us now and chris, we know that two people were injured. the good news is they are okay. they are
6:08 am
going to be okay. we are talking about a mother and a child, and they were at marina green when that parachutist came down in the wrong spot. again, though, they're going to be all right. in the video you can see the parachute is coming down. the mother and child suffered minor injuries but were taken to the hospital just to be on the safe side. now marina green, that's where they were. that's also where lots of other people were there to show, to watch the blue angels. those blue angels did not disappoint, but that was not the case on saturday, when the famous fliers had to cancel because the visibility was just too poor. fleet week also put service members and the public in the same space for ship tours and concerts, and all kinds of ceremonies, and nearly 2500 sailors, marines and coast guardsmen were here for fleet week, along with more than a million spectators, making the city feel very alive. it was amazing to see the city happy again after covid, coming together and having a lot of fu.
6:09 am
the final festivities are happening today. one is a performance by the first marine division ceremonial band and the high school band challenge at golden gate park, and you can get final ship tours of the uss somerset and the uss tripoli. that's from nine to noon today. while the tours are free, we know people spent a lot of money over the week in san francisco. the organizers say maybe as much as $10 million for the city, which is fantastic. we will have the final numbers just yet. but i mean, you can see the crowd and know that, right? exactly. buy something while you're there, something a sweatshirt, because people never plan for san francisco weather. we all have a san francisco sweatshirt and there we go. helps boost the economy there. exactly. and you know, if you were out and about, we want to see your video and photos. one viewer sent us video of the blue angels in full action taken near the marina green. isn't that a cool shot? i just never get tired of it.
6:10 am
yeah, yeah. so tag us in your posts on social media and maybe we'll share them right here on air as well. now let's check in with meteorologist kari hall. it was a perfect sunday. so how are we shaping up for the workweek? yeah, it's still going to be foggy in spots. and then along the coast, we're starting out with the potential of some dangerous beach conditions, some sneaker waves and rip currents. and then tomorrow we'll start to see some clouds moving in. temperatures staying nice and mild, but then we'll have a chance of some scattered showers on wednesday with some breezy winds to follow. take a look at the fog right over the golden gate bridge right now as we're getting started. heading back to work in the fog will linger through 9:00. we'll start to see some peeks of sunshine, but cool temperatures again today with upper 60s there. and in oakland it will be 7177. in novato and in santa rosa 80 degrees will be in the mid 70s for much of the tri-valley and low 70s for san jose. with our peninsula temperatures in the low 70s as well. we'll talk about the rain chances ahead, how much we may
6:11 am
see in a few minutes, but mike is looking at how much you'll pay at the gas pump. yeah, we're looking over here to alameda county, kari it's bowed down below the $4 mark in fremont. the reports are the best with 3.99. just barely. but it's vargas on griner will take it on the north bay. in the north bay mill valley is the best on the list for marin county. here in the middle. 401 at arco on redwood highway and san jose is the best. in our last location, 409. the location is no mystery. it's chevron on winchester boulevard, across the freeway from sara's historic house. you can check where your house is closest to the bargains. gasbuddy.com report that information if you have as well. let's get out to the roadways. we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic, maybe a lighter flow for many places, but we're looking at north 680. still some slowing around bernal, although the chp entry for that traffic control has cleared from the grid north. 680 in through pleasanton. meanwhile, westbound 80 coming down through el cerrito. there's still some slowing. still reports of that disabled big rig right around
6:12 am
central avenue slowing on the approach out of richmond. everything else is lighter than your standard monday. back to you. thanks, mike. well, bad news for baked goods. next. the latest grocery store staple hit with rising prices and the other similar items which could impact your holiday cooking. and speaking of holidays, well, when it's the best time to book your winter vacation, you're wondering, right? well, the immediate deadline you face to get those cheap deals. and as we approach halloween, how about some haunted hotels? the two bay area locations being ranked among the spookiest in america? stick with us. you don't want to miss it. a lot more news ahead. you're watching today in the bay
6:15 am
us in the low 50s will be in the 50s through about 9 to 10:00. and then today headed for the mid to upper 70s. lots of sunshine. it's going to be a beautiful day. i'm watching some rain approaching the bay area, so we'll talk about the timeline coming up in a few minutes and the timeline here delayed by about 40 minutes. what i mean is the backup is delayed by about 40 minutes. we're now just starting to see lanes fill in at the bay bridge toll plaza. we'll

6:21 am
all right. well, it's spooky season. exactly. yeah. we're approaching halloween, and it's finally starting to feel like it a little bit. it's nice to have the cooler weather coming in and we have this spooky fog just rolling over the golden gate bridge, but we know that's the typical sight there. and if you're going to the beach, watch out for the beach hazards that we'll see today. the potential of some sneaker waves and rip currents, sneaker waves are those waves that come up a lot higher than the previous waves, and really hard to tell as they're approaching, but they do bring up water a lot higher along the coastline and then rain chances on wednesday, as the storm system approaches, we're going to be watching out for spotty showers and then the breezy winds that may shift offshore on thursday night into friday, which means that increases our fire danger and a lot of changes ahead after seeing some rain. and then looking at walnut creek this morning, we're getting started. temperatures in the low 60s. it's going to be mostly cloudy through about 9:00. after that, it's sunny the rest of the day.
6:22 am
we're going to see some nice and comfortable temperatures here. highs in the upper seconds and in livermore 75 degrees 73. in san jose, los gatos will see a high of 77 and 71. in oakland. really comfortable temperatures for the north bay as well, which continues tomorrow as well as wednesday. even though we are going to see that chance of showers coming in midweek. let's get a look at that timeline. because as this system approaches, it first starts in the north bay and then we start to see rain filling in right over the bay area from parts of the east bay into the peninsula, and then moving into the south bay by late morning into the early afternoon. so it looks like in time for the morning commute, we could start to see those showers coming in and then going into the day, it eventually starts to clear out for the evening, but a few hours with the possibility of some wet weather kind of hit or miss anywhere across the bay area, and that could bring in about a 10th of an inch of rain for most
6:23 am
spots. so we'll be watching out for that. as far as temperature. once that passes, it will get breezy and slightly cooler, but then we'll see those temperatures bouncing back for the weekend into early next week. with those highs in the low 80s for our warmer spots in the inland areas. and so we're going from a chance of showers on wednesday to the potential of an increased fire danger. the rain that we see unfortunately, is not going to be enough to really decrease that risk of our wildfire threat as we go into the weekend. and mike, you've been keeping an eye on the bay bridge. yeah. keep checking back here, kari, because we have a lighter volume at the toll plaza itself. we talked about how today is a holiday for a lot of banks. basically many banks and the federal holiday as well. so we're looking at a lighter backup right now. it's just starting to fill in very gradually. ten minutes ago we saw about the same amount of traffic there and the drive across the span has maintained a pretty steady, a little bit slower than the speed limit there. westbound 80 finally

like, gas to be like a reasonable price just to commute to work, to be able to pay for our gas. regulating gas prices. the key vote. state leaders are set to make later today amid the lowering price at your pump. plus, world championship pumpkin weigh-off returns to half moon bay. take a look at those giants. that's a live look and we are live ahead of this year's 51st annual competition. this is today in the bay. i'm surprised those trucks aren't moving like this down the freeway. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. once you get too caught up on what's happening with that forecast this morning. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring that. and, kari, you say we need to pay attention every day. this week because things are changing. things are changing temperature wise, not so much. we're starting out cool. we're going to have comfortable days, and it's going to be breezy at times. and then
6:33 am
looking at a wide range in temperatures tomorrow we'll start to see clouds rolling in out ahead of a cold front that will be coming in on wednesday, bringing us a chance of showers. and then once the wind picks up, we're going from a chance of rain later this week to also seeing increased fire danger. so yeah, a lot of changes over the next few days today. looking great. concord you start out at 61 degrees and headed for the upper 70s low 80s there and 73 in san jose. it will also be 73 in palo alto and upper seconds and low 80s for much of the north bay. mike now you found a bigger backup or what looks like a bigger backup than the bay bridge is here. the richmond bridge over to san rafael. westbound 580 is jammed up at the toll plaza itself and slow from the east shore freeway. heading over to that scene that's in the middle of our screen. just below it, we have the bay bridge. the backup is starting to fill in the toll plaza. it's on the lanes off to the left, coming off the berkeley curve. everything else out of the maze is moving smoothly. we may see a lighter
6:34 am
volume today because of this holiday. for federal agencies out through the area. we're looking over northbound 101 in san francisco at cesar chavez. an earlier crash was in lanes. it may be clearing right now. it's slow. north of the 280 split and slow north 680 still passing by bernal. the overnight construction. back to you. thank you. mike. it is 633 right now. today governor gavin newsom is set to make another push for his gas price bill, aiming to help those trying to make it in the bay. today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from the east bay this morning. and bob, the senate just passed legislation aimed at lowering some of these prices. what's next? it now goes to the state assembly. and the state assembly passes this bill. laura, it will go to governor gavin newsom's desk for him to sign into law. if you're not familiar, according to triple a us californians, we pay on average $1.28 more per gallon of gas than the rest of the country. not a big surprise. unfortunately for us, especially for us who are getting up right now to get into our cars, driving to work. well, later
6:35 am
this afternoon, the governor will host a news conference with legislators to remind us californians and the assembly why he thinks this new law is good for drivers and why he says it down the price of gasoline. the bill, if passed, would require oil refineries to maintain a minimum inventory level to prevent price spikes during peak driving months. the proposed bill would give energy regulators authority to require refineries to maintain this two week supply of oil on hand. proponents of it say the oil reserve would save californians billions of dollars at the pump. now, the bill has been supported by several california mayors and other local leaders. gas companies oppose this bill. they say refineries are already full and don't have the tanks to hold extra oil. julie berg with the western states petroleum association, says if this bill is passed and a new regulations take effect, the bill will actually have unintentional effects of raising gas prices. the california energy commission itself said that this could potentially create artificial shortages. so that means we're
6:36 am
going to have to withhold products from the market. so that can absolutely increase prices, increase on gas period is just outrageous. like we need like gas to be at like a reasonable price just to commute to work, to be able to pay for our gas. it's hard. i mean, you have to make choices at consume, but i mean, gas is a big part of it. so it's housing, right? those are the two components that either allow you to live here or force you to move away. the governor's press conference with legislators is scheduled for 2:00 this afternoon, reporting live here in the east bay bob redell. today in the bay. all right. thank you very much for the latest there, bob. well, in just a few hours, the trial for the man accused of murdering founder of cash app is set to start. nima momeni is accused of stabbing and killing bob lee in san francisco last year. lee's body was found by emergency crews outside of the port side apartments on main street. investigators say that security cameras showed momeni

and lee before the stabbing. well, mini's lawyers tried to move that trial outside of san francisco over concerns that they couldn't receive a fair trial. there, but that request was denied. opening statements are expected to begin later this morning. and in the east bay, one man is dead. this is after a fiery crash in antioch. it happened just after five yesterday morning on highway four, just west of eighth street. chp saying that a ford pickup truck broke down there on the highway. a few minutes later, the driver of a honda hit that truck. the impact was so intense, causing the honda to burst into flames, trapping that driver inside. sadly, they died at the scene. the driver of the ford was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. 637 now to an update on 49ers rikki pearsall, the rookie who was injured in an attempted robbery at the end of august, is getting ready to return to practice. this comes more than a month after the rookie wide receiver was shot during a robbery

attempt near san francisco's union square. coach kyle shanahan says the team will open pearsall practice window today. not clear when he will make his game debut, but it's likely to be after the team's game against the kansas city chiefs next weekend. well, multiple people are heading at this hour to alcatraz in san francisco bay to celebrate indigenous peoples day for a special sunrise celebration. they're taking the ferries from fisherman's wharf. the event honors the original occupiers of alcatraz, the live, sacrifices, and courage, as well as survival of the indigenous people and culture. actually got to go to attend that ceremony back in 2022. and certainly it is one to remember. it is so filled with so much culture and history. there. and the great thing about it is a lot of times people you around will actually share some of their stories of like, oh, my grandfather first came here, or you know, a lot of
6:39 am
history that so, so much history. and it's so cool to see because typically if you're, you know, not in that you don't see it too often, but to see the ceremonial events that are happening there today is and they go on for a while. it truly is a sunrise festival. so a celebration, i should say. so that is cool that i got to take part in that. and when i went in 2022, it was cold. so it'll be cold this morning too. yeah, kind of foggy. misting and drizzling is what we can expect there. and along the coastline again today. but we're also seeing a wide range in the kind of weather we'll experience across the bay area today, starting out with some low 60s in san jose and mostly cloudy while we're in the mid 50s in san francisco. a little bit more of a breeze there. and then looking at the golden gate bridge where it is still foggy, and you may even have to turn on the windshield wipers as you're driving into the city today. and we're going to see that fog linger through about 9 to 10:00. after that, we'll get a little bit more sunshine with our highs in the mid 60s. and for the
6:40 am
