showing an absolute dead heat. trump pulling even with harris in the past few weeks. but of course it's the swing states that tell the full story of the race. >> meanwhile vice president harris released her medical records over the weekend, showing she is in, quote, excellent health. then on the trail, she went after her opponent saying donald trump is not being transparent with his own medical records. >> also this morning, new details are emerging over a security concern at one of trump's weekend rallies. a man arrested with guns in his car about a quarter of a mile from an event in california. that man saying he supports donald trump and always travels with firearms. >> we're going to break it all down, including those new poll numbers with steve kornacki in just a moment. let's start with hallie jackson in washington for us. hallie, good morning. >> good morning to you. with just 22 days to go, both candidates are focusing on the biggest battleground today. both vice president harris and former president trump are heading to all important pennsylvania, as our new polling shows this already close race

>> coast to coast campaigning, counting down thorning to election day. our new nbc news poll shows the race in a dead heat. vice president harris and former president trump now tied among registered voters nationwide, with mr. trump erasing the vice president's five-point lead from last month. also among the findings, a big gender gap with mr. trump leading with men by 16 points, and vice president harris up among women by 14 points. it all comes as, on the campaign trail, the former president deploying increasingly inflammatory rhetoric against his rival. >> kamala harris, her reign of terror ends the day i take office. she's finished. >> and suggesting using the military against what he described as domestic enemies. >> i think the bigger problem is the enemy from within. we have some sick people, radical left lunatics. and i think they're the big -- and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by national guard or if really

necessary, by the military. >> how are you going to guard against the bureaucrats undermining you? >> well, they're going to -- well, i always say, so, we have two enemies. we have the outside enemy, and then we have the enemy from within. >> reporter: vice president harris in battleground north carolina trying to put the spotlight on mr. trump's health. >> and he's not being transparent with the voters. >> reporter: pointing to mr. trump's refusal to reveal his medical records, after she released a letter from her white house doctor who said she's in excellent health. >> one must question, are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable to lead america? >> both candidates on the campaign trail all weekend. and on saturday, a man was arrested outside a trump rally in coachella, california, with what local officials said were weapons and fake credentials. the man arrested, vem miller,

has been released, telling he's a trump supporter. a federal law enforcement source telling nbc news there's no indication right now it was another assassination attempt against the former president, with the secret service saying he was not in any danger. as for that renewed spotlight on medical records, mr. trump's team points out he released a letter from his doctor last year saying he's in excellent health. although that three-paragraph note lacked some of the basic medical information the vice president's contained. savannah? >> holly, thank you. we've got steve kornacki to help us dive deeper into the numbers from the poll. good morning. the top line is the five-point advantage kamala harris had in our last poll is gone. what's behind that shift? >> exactly, savannah. just look at them side by side and you can see it. the poll we took a month ago that you see here, it was just after that first trump/harris debate. since then, we've had the vp debate. there have been campaign activities, interviews, things that have changed in that time. we just asked the basic image perception people have.

is it positive or negative of these candidates? the trump number's always been somewhere in this territory. this is a little bit high for him, believe it or not, 43% positive. but look at harris, 43, positive, 49, negative. the significance, we polled this a month ago. she was 48% positive and 45 negative. she was above water, as they say. that's completely reversed. it now looks very similar to trump's. that's a pretty big shift when you're talking about a race this close. then there's the weight of the fact she's the vp in an unpopular administration. we asked about president biden's policies, are they helping or hurting your family. just a quarter of voters said they're helping. nearly half said they're hurting. here's the interesting twist. we also asked folks, think back to when donald trump was president. did his policies help or hurt your family? and look at the difference. 44% helping, 31, hurting. trump's -- the retrospective, you would say, opinion of trump's presidency among voters

arguably higher now than when he was president. >> the poll asked a question in an interesting way, trying to get at this concept of are there people that are just single-issue voters. what did you find? >> yeah. look what comes at the top. usually when we just ask folks in general, what's the most important issue. economy and inflation comes in number one. we ask this way, abortion, we asked, is there one issue so important you would vote solely on that. nearly a quarter of voters said abortion is that issue. and on this issue -- this is harris' biggest single advantage over trump. we asked folks, who do you prefer on the issue of abortion, it's a 19-point advantage on this question for harris. so, that's what her campaign is hoping, that this is a motivating, a singularly motivating issue for voters forrer had. >> steve, thank you very much. turning now to the ongoing recovery efforts from hurricane milton's devastating blow to florida. five days after that storm crashed ashore, nearly half a million customers still don't have power. over the weekend, some of the

evacuees returned home for the first time and president biden also toured the damage. nbc's stephanie gosk joins us from bradenton beach with the very latest. steph, good morning to you. >> good morning. bit by bit life in places like this in bradenton beach is getting easier. the shock of being hit by back-to-back powerful hurricanes is fading. what's left is the enormity of the rebuild. floridians have done this before. when we talk to people, we overwhelmingly hear determination. >> reporter: for many here in florida, the devastation is just now sinking in. >> i have never seen anything like this. most people living here that are alive have never seen anything like this either. >> reporter: president biden in st. petersburg toured the damage and announced 600 million in federal funds, including 100 million for improving florida's power system. >> will make the region's power system stronger and more capable and reduce the frequency and

duration of power outages while extreme weather events become more frequent. >> reporter: the death toll from milton has risen to 24. nearly 1 million residents without power and flooding still a major concern in some areas. >> rivers are continuing to rise. there are still shelters throughout the state of florida for you to go to. >> reporter: on the ground, some barrier island communities are completely destroyed. these are the front steps to a house that obviously is no longer here. the best thing that we can guess is that the house that was here was picked up by the water and deposited here. it's one of those two. >> reporter: we were given exclusive access to man sew at that key, a narrow island that took a direct hit be wind and storm surge. >> this is the first time you've been here? >> we came -- we were able to get on yesterday. we went in a boat and saw that the whole wall of our house is totally blown out. >> reporter: even first responders overwhelmed by the destruction, as they escorted

our team to still-restricted areas. >> we live in a paradise, and we're resilient. but, i mean, they're not going to be prepared for this when they come here. >> it almost seems like you're not prepared to see this. >> i'm not prepared. there's devastation. these are kids' toys. i have a child. we all have families. it's heartbreaking to see it. >> it really is, steph. heartbreaking on so many levels. and it seemed like everything from airports to schools were all shut down last week. where do things stand with that now? >> reporter: craig, there is some good news. the governor announced all the major airports in the area with the exception of sarasota bradenton have reopened. before the storm hit, 50 school systems shut down. but this morning the vast majority of those schools are back open. craig? >> some semblance of normalcy at least. stephanie gosk for us. breaking news. overnight in the middle east four israeli soldiers have been

killed in a drone attack, adding to the escalating tensions there. the u.s. is preparing to send an antimissile system to israel along with u.s. troops to help operate it. matt bradley is in beirut, lebanon, this morning with more. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, savannah. the week is beginning in the middle east with new fighting in lebanon, gaza, and israel, as the u.s. sends more weapons and troops in the hopes of averting a wider war. today, fresh carnage in the gaza strip, palestinian health officials said three israeli air strikes throughout gaza killed dozens of people and injured hundreds more. sending a blaze through a camp in a hospital courtyard. overnight, sirens and missiles in israel's northern front with lebanon. a drone strike evaded antiair systems yesterday, killing four israeli soldiers and injuring more than 60 in one of the deadliest attacks in israel since october 7th last year.

the idf spokesman said, we'll learn from this event, improve, and move forward. it comes as the u.s. is deepening its role in the conflict with the first major troop deployment. the pentagon announcing it will send one of its most advanced missile defense systems along with about 100 troops to operate it to israel to protect against any further missile attacks from iran. meanwhile, peace keepers in lebanon now coming under israeli fire. two israeli tanks rammed a u.n. base in southern lebanon after demanding last week the u.n. force leave the border areas with israel. but the peace keepers stood their ground. yesterday, israel's prime minister addressed the u.n. directly. >> mr. secretary general, get the uniform forces out of harm's way. it should be right now, immediately. >> reporter: israeli attacks have injured more than a dozen u.n. troops over the past week. >> do you feel as though some of these incidents might be retaliation for the decision to hold their ground? >> we were asked to leave from all these positions close to the line. and immediately after, a few

kevin, though. back at 7:38 with a classic look at the rush of the holiday travel season. that of course from "home alone." >> if you want to get away this thanksgiving or christmas, the time to plan or book, that time is now. on "money saving monday," vicky nguyen as everything you need to know. good morning. what you got. >> the first two weeks, according to the travel expert at hopper, is the best time to book for thanksgiving. so, today is actually the last day of that window. so, if you want to get home, you know you want to go somewhere for thanksgiving, you really want to get on it today because as we get closer to the holiday, the prices will go up on average $30 a day in that final run-up to thanks giving in november. the other thing to think about is that you want to ask your boss for maybe monday or tuesday off so you can avoid flying back on that sunday after thanksgiving. that is typically the biggest travel day of the year. not only will you save money, but you'll save time if you can

fly back on monday or tuesday. >> what about christmas? when do we need to book for that? >> the good new there is is we have the last two weeks of october, typically the ideal time, 36 to 72 days out according to google. what you can do right now is set price trackers. that's always nice. if you know the dates you want to travel, you know the destinations, you can start monitoring the prices. google flights does it, expedia does it, booking.com does it for you as well. another tip, if you buy main economy and let's say between now and your travel dates, the price goes down, call the airline, ask for a refund first. if they won't do it, maybe they'll give at least a credit toward your next flight. that one is pretty easy to do. if you just can't get it together, you can't figure out the dates right now, december 3rd is another last-minute time. that's travel tuesday. that's the tuesday after black friday. all the agencies got together, the airlines, the car rental places, the hotels, and said,

let's offer deals on this day. that's easiest. don't forget about your travel agents. i know a lot of people are into booking themselves, but travel agents know the ins and outs and best dates for saving. that's really good. nobody wants to fly on christmas eve or christmas day, but you could save 200 bucks by flying on new year's eve. >> what about hitting the road? >> okay. great news here. aaa is actually expecting gas prices to be below $3 by early november. gas buddy says look at the prices there. we could see $2.99, the national average for a low in thanksgiving. and then christmas, even lower, $2.83. so, if you are planning to hit the road for the holidays, it's going to be a great driving holiday. and some people are in the market for a new car too. so that could be good. >> before everyone starts booking flights and travel and hotels and whatnot, feels like the scammers are usually out during the holidays as well. any particular scams we should be concerned about? >> this is a crazy stat. booking.com looked at the last 18 months, and they said travel

scams have gone up 900%. and they say it's in part because of artificial intelligence. the cyber security experts say a.i. has gotten so sophisticated that scammers can make these websites that look legit, send you emails with logos and graphics, offering you great travel deals. they're even showing up on google searches. and the site looks like it's the airbnb home page or looks like the booking.com home page. always check the web address very, very carefully. if you're going to try to book through a site you've never heard of, first i would say, don't do it. second, google the name with the word review or scam to see what comes up. a lot of times you'll see the countdown clock. you've got five minutes to get this deal. that's bogus. that is totally a marketing tool. i would be very concerned about that. always pay with a credit card so you get extra protection. and never download anything. these days you should be able to

both candidates tied among registered voters nationwide, with former president trump erasing vice president harris' lead from last month. there's a big gender gap too. mr. trump is up with men by 16 points. the vice president is leading with women by 14. it comes as former president trump is deploying increasingly inflammatory rhetoric against his rival and suggested using the military against what he described as domestic enemies. for his part, the vice president is pointing to mr. trump's refusal to release his medical records. mr. trump's doctor last year said his health was excellent, but that three-paragraph letter left basic medical information that the vp's contained. a man was arrested at a check point outside a trump rally in california with what local officials said were weapons and fake credentials. he has been released, telling a california newspaper he's a trump supporter. a federal law enforcement source tells nbc news there was no indication that was another assassination attempt against

sent to numerous federal agencies on saturday warning fema has advised all first responders in rutherford county, north carolina, to stand down and evacuate the county immediately, adding that national guard troops had come across trucks of armed militia saying they were out hunting fema. nbc news has not seen the email cited by the post, and it's unclear whether the threat mentioned was seen as credible. north carolina republican congressman chuck edwards addressing the reported threats on msnbc. >> we had two counties with folks reported with different militia groups attacking and threatening fema. >> reporter: in a statement to nbc news, fema writing, in part, for the safety of our dedicated staff and disaster survivors we are helping, fema has made some operational adjustments. according to the agency, disaster recovery centers remain open. but at least two counties said fema staff would not appear at other planned location sunday, with officials in ashe county saying the agency had paused

welcome back. for 85 years, "glamour" magazine has been a megaphone for women. divorce, reproductive rights, financial independence, and racism well before it was considered okay to do so. it was also the first american fashion magazine to put a black woman on the cover, the first to present gloria steinem's writing, and to publish andy warhol's illustrations. six u.s. presidents have given interviews or written for a "glamour" feature. the evolution is chronicled in a new book. it's called "glamour: an extraordinary history" and joining us is samantha barry. this is a beautiful book. it's like a coffee table book.

world tell you their glamour stories. what does that mean? >> i was backstage here and one of your producers walked in and said i was a glamour college top ten in 1976 and started telling me about her photo shoot and when they brought those college students to new york. that was just serendipitous backstage here today. everywhere i go, at the met, uma thurman was talking about her mom who was on the cover of glamour in the late '50s and early '60s, who we talked to in the book. that's what she wanted to talk about. i've gone to many parties in new york where -- was a big column back in the day where we asked advice of men. the different iterations of jake will come up to me and say, i was jake. >> it was the dear abby, but it was jake. >> exactly. you know, every walk of life, whether they wrote in to "glamour," whether they were featured in it, it's rare i can go any part of the country and

good morning. it is 856 on marcus washington. well in just a few moments the trial for the man accused of murdering founder of cash app is set to start. nina alemany is accused of stabbing and killing bob lee in san francisco last year. lee's body was found by emergency crews outside the port side apartments on main street. now, investigators say security camera video captured mckinney and lee before the stabbing, while his lawyers tried to move that trial outside of san francisco over concerns that it he couldn't receive a fair trial there. but that request was denied. happening now nbc bay area's bob redell is following all of the developments happening in court. he'll have a report for us and is speaking with legal analyst
