details. want to check in with meteorologist kari hall? because, kari, you're actually tracking that incoming red flag warning, but also some slight chances of rain today as well. yeah, we are watching the radar very closely as we see some light showers moving into the north bay. we are going to have that chance of showers over the next several hours, but unfortunately it's not a lot and we are not expecting this to really decrease that fire dange. and much of the rain that we are seeing right now is off the coast and near the coastline, and parts of mendocino county. starting out this morning with a little bit of some wet weather as that moves off towards the south and east, we'll go into the afternoon with our skies clearing, a couple of spotty showers moving through before the noon hour, and mainly during the morning commute. we will see a chance of showers coming in and then the red flag warning will be going up for tomorrow as the winds increase, and we're going to see that dry offshore wind and for some of our hills and upper elevations, we could see those gusts over 50mph as the relative humidity drops down
5:03 am
into the teens and possibly into the single digits. we have a red flag warning. that means you need to be on high alert for the possibility of any quickly moving fires that do get started. we do have very dry vegetation, and in october the brush and the grasses are as dry as it can get so that may be one of the reasons why we'll have to be very careful over the next few days. i'll be tracking this and we'll talk more about the power shutoffs possible. mike, you're tracking crashes in the east bay. that's right. we'll give you a big view of the bay. folks, can pick out their commute spots. typical construction, clearing from the tri-valley. we'll look over here toward the east bay. a crash in san pablo. looks like everything may be clearing shortly. from the blotter. all activity is out of lanes, but there's another crash reported right around powell. so we're watching westbound 80 approaching the bay bridge. i'll let you know if anything develops there. we are showing that we have the clearing for eastbound, the closure that's going on scheduled to clear just a few minutes ago. we saw these sensors light back up. but again overnight, eastbound 37 will be

closed over toward atherton avenue. atherton is your alternate. back to you. thanks, mike. moving the bay area forward. today, hundreds of thousands of health care workers will see a significant bump in their pay as a new minimum wage goes into effect today in the bay. ginger conejero saab live for us this morning and ginger, those workers, they've been waiting for this increase for quite some time for some months now. that's right. good morning marcus and laura. sb. 525 was signed into law last year and it was originally slated for that pay bump in june of this year, but it got pushed back because there were hopes to meet or help close a state budget shortfall. now the day is here. more than 325,000 workers already making that kind of money will also see their pay go up indirectly as a result. now, those, i should say 325 health care workers will see their hourly pay increase from
5:05 am
$18 to $23 per hour. now, this applies mostly to low paid medical staff and private facilities like people who provide dialysis for kidney patients and workers like janitors and cooks at hospitals and health care facilities. a professor at san francisco state university estimates that this new minimum wage will amount to an extra 5 to $6000 per year, which he acknowledges is still not a lot of money here in the bay area. but it's an indication of the depth of the problem that the wages for some healthcare workers were so low in these very expensive parts of the cit. sorry, the state where especially accommodation costs have been skyrocketing, that something needed to be done to try to address this issue moving forward, or else we would face, you know, extremely severe shortages and retention problems which are not good for patient

care. if you constantly have people having to quit their job. well, professor logan says los angeles and long beach already passed a minimum wage for health care workers and hasn't seen any evidence of layoffs. now, you might recall this past april, the state bumped the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 an hour. now, the professor expects states like washington, new york and minnesota might also enact a minimum wage for health care workers. and like the professor said, you know, that extra bump of 5 to $6000 may not mean much for people here in the bay area, but it is a welcome change, a welcome increase for those really struggling to make it in the bay in daly city, ginger conejero saab, today in the bay. yeah, things are definitely more expensive out there, so i'm sure the extra money is definitely appreciated. all right. thanks, ginger. 506 right now. two decision 2024 in a historic

first teens in berkeley and oakland will be allowed to vote in school board elections this november. later today, 16 and 17 year olds plan to gather at a ballot box, drop off location on allston way to mail in their ballots. that's across the street from berkeley high school. a group of oakland teens will hold a similar drop off this afternoon. also today, santa clara county's registrar of voters office is hosting a workshop for voters. it's open to the public. starts at 3:00 this afternoon. it's being held at the registrar of voters office on burger street in san jose, live at 8:00. event organizers will join us in our streaming news cast to discuss today's event and key voter information you need to know before you cast that ballot. and speaking of casting that ballot. early voting underway in ten states from coast to coast. record in-person turnout happening in georgia, which is a swing state. 300,000 people already casting their ballots on day one of early voting. now, casting ballots before election day, something both campaigns

are encouraging today in the bay's alice barr joining us live from washington this morning. and alice, this all comes as both of those candidates continued that cross country campaign across the nation. marcus, they are trying to pick up any slivers of voters, and you can look to their appearances that they're both making today on fox news, vice president harris having her first formal interview with that network. she's working to find maybe any nikki haley voters, anyone persuadable in that audience. while former president trump will be appearing in a pre-taped town hall with all women voters. that's a group he's been trying to make up ground with. and after that, he's doing a separate town hall with univision, appealing to hispanic voters. while vice president harris will also be campaigning today in pennsylvania. early voting is underway in battleground georgi, and day one offered a snapshot of how eager voters are to have their say. anxious to do their duty to do their to do their

duty and vote. georgia election officials say a record shattering more than 300,000 people cast ballots tuesday, and a new nbc news poll finds half of americans plan to vote early or already have former president trump, who in the past has railed against early and mail in voting, now urging his supporters to join in as soon as you can go to the polls and vote. this couple heeding the call, i think we are having an existential crisis. others motivated to cast their ballots for vice president harris. we need a new date. we need something special. while rallying in georgia tuesday, the former president addressed black and hispanic voters, where polls show him making gains. any african-american or hispanic. and you know how well i'm doing there that votes for kamala. you got to have your head examined, vice president harris said. a radio town hall in detroit, hosted by charlamagne tha god, urged people skeptical of her to

store for weather wise today? kari we've been talking about a little chance of rain. we've been talking about rain. we've been talking about the pg&e power shutoffs possible. and before we see the active weather coming in, it's the time to prepare for that possibility of not having power in these counties that are shaded in orange. and make sure you're signed up for those alerts from pg&e. here's the rain that's moving in for us for now with some spotty light showers this morning coming in during the morning commute. and once this system passes off towards the east, we will see that low moving away and high pressure building, which is going to create a pressure gradient. and that creates some gusty winds that will be blowing offshore, will be very dry and may be especially high for some of our upper elevations in the hills across the bay area. so we'll be tracking all of that with another update in the forecast in a few minutes. scott. well, coming up on today in the bay, donald trump speaking to the chicago economic forum, talking about 2,000% tariffs. what will that mean? that's just ahead.

morning, and it will continue into the afternoon. may even want to wear that jacket with a hood, because it could be a little damp out there today. and our temperatures stay in the 60s. a little clearing for the afternoon. we'll get a look at all of our microclimates and talk more about that fire danger coming up. and we are looking at a good, steady volume of traffic, pretty much what we expect for this wednesday at the bay bridge toll plaza. we're tracking a crash that is on your approach down the east shore freeway. you're coming through emeryville. there may be some flashing lights. we'll let you know the latest coming up. well, good morning. very happy wednesday to you. united airlines is a big employer in san mateo county. says it will buy back $1.5 billion worth of its own shares. that would make the remaining shares worth more. flight attendants, who do not yet have a contract, said that money would be better spent on their salaries. so this is stellantis, the parent company of chrysler and dodge, jeep and ram. bloomberg reports stellantis, which is in some financial trouble, is
5:16 am
considering moving its ram 1500 truck assembly down to mexico. stellantis says that's not true. stellantis did make a deal with its union workers huge pay increases in exchange for more flexibility moving assembly lines. donald trump on tuesday proposed a 2,000% tariff on cars and trucks made outside the united states that would make the sticker price of a ram 1500 pickup around $845,000. trump was speaking to the editor in chief of bloomberg at the chicago economic forum, and he was asked whether google should be broken up after accusations of monolith monoliths. you know what i mean? a monopoly. here's his answer. should google be broken up? i just haven't gotten over something the justice department did yesterday. where virginia cleaned up its voter rolls and got rid of thousands
5:17 am
and thousands of bad votes. and the justice department sued them that they should be allowed to put those bad votes and illegal votes back in and let the people vote. so i haven't i haven't gotten i haven't gotten over that. a lot of people have seen that. they can't even believe it. the question is about google, president trump. yeah, look, google's got a lot of power. they're very bad to me. very, very bad to me. i mean, i can speak from that standpoint. they only have bad stores. in other words, if i have 20 good stores and 20 bad stories and everyone's entitled to that, you'll only see the 20 bad stories. and i called the head of google the other day and i said, i'm getting a lot of good stories lately, but you don't find them in google. i think it's a whole rigged deal. i think google's rigged, just like our government is rigged all over the place. you would break them up. in other words, i'd do something. as you can tell, we didn't get much of an answer out of that. the big news out of there was was really his again, proposing new tariffs each time
5:18 am
he talks to somebody, there's a new tariff involved and economists surveyed by the wall street journal say these tariffs would be incredibly inflationary. interesting. all right. thank you scott. well training for you this morning after a six year hiatus, the victoria's secret fashion show made a highly anticipated return last night. and let's just say one legends runway comeback has a lot of us saying that we were all rooting for you. oh, nanette barragan. you probably know who that is. yeah. tyra banks making that grand return to the catwalk after nearly 20 years. supermodel closed out the show, rocking the bodysuit you see there. cher also took to the runway to perform her hit belize and strong enough as well. so a big night there for victoria's secret and music. yeah. yeah, exactly. a lot of people looking forward to cher too. yeah. and i didn't know that tyra hair was
5:19 am
in. i could you see me coming to work? sometimes. let's do it. tune in tomorrow and let's see how it turns out. all right. we definitely have the humidity for it, and we're going to see a chance of rain for us for today. and then tomorrow. it's the wind that will style your hair. we're going to see this storm system quickly moving through the bay area. unfortunately, it doesn't have ■a lot of rain, and that's exactly what we need right now. seeing that it is extremely dry out there and we're going to see this moving through so quickly that only a few of us will have a chance of showers. so what we're seeing right now on the radar is some light rain in parts of the north bay, mainly near the coastline, and we'll see how this evolves over the next couple of hours. but it is enough to churn up some of those bigger, bigger waves along the coastline. still a beach hazard statement in effect until 9:00 this evening. some of those waves will break at about 6 to 8ft. and we're already seeing that for some of our coastline
5:20 am
for parts of san mateo county. so looking at what's ahead with this rain, most of it moving over toward the cierra for the bay area, very light and spotty and mostly coming between 9 to 10:00. so we are seeing a slight chance of rain over the bay parts of the east bay at 7:00, and then moving over toward fremont and extending down toward palo alto. at 8 to 9:00. and you can see the rain is in and out of here so quickly, and there may be one last wave before noon, coming first through the north bay and then sweeping into the east bay. but once again, those chances are very slight, and any measurable rain will be a few hundredths of an inch. that's if you see any of those showers. the early morning rain is going to keep those temperatures down, so we're only headed for the low 70s today for palo alto, hayward, san jose. the high will be 73. we'll also see highs in the low 70s for much of the tri-valley into the north bay. will be in the upper 70s and low 80s now going into tomorrow. a nice little cool down will
5:21 am
really feel that cold front in the morning with some low 50s. and then looking ahead, we transition to a high fire danger and then seeing those temperatures heating up by saturday. we're in the mid 80s. it's still going to be windy and then the low 80s. extend into early next week while the wind will start to calm down. so looking at some gusty winds once this moves out. high pressure moves in and in san francisco we'll go from highs in the mid 60s to mid 70s for the weekend. mike, you're starting with crossing the bay bridge. yeah we always watch the flow of the traffic on the span. at this time of day. things are moving very nicely. those low clouds hovering just above the deck. so folks who are driving into or out of san francisco not noticing any problems getting to the bay bridge, we may have an issue some flashing lights at the off ramp for powell coming down west 80. no slowing shows up on the sensors. no lanes blocked. waiting for an update from chp. berkeley curve moves nicely and there's a little bit of slowing as folks do pass through the pass the metering

lights, which are not activated yet. we do see that traditional slowing for highway 37 up in the north bay, and easy drive down 101 across the golden gate bridge and little break tap shows up here, coming into concord, into pittsburgh, and then eventually in toward concord. we're watching. 242 there may be some early slowing. we'll track that. so far out of the altamont pass. you're just fine. no major issues for the tri-valley peninsula, of course, is clear. the south bay shows a nice drive right here. 101 should show some slowing over the next 15 to 20 minutes. back to you. thanks, mike. coming up next on today in the bay nbc bay area response. how can you get an insurance company to pay you every single penny you're owed after a disaster? a really boring home video. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. i'll relieve the boredom and sho

morning to you. busy morning. 530 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. let's start with a live look outside. this morning. the bay area now bracing for high winds and fire danger. we're going to start with kari hall this morning because this is a very. we'll get to kris sanchez in just a moment. with the potential public safety power shut off. but kari, let's talk about what to expect for today. yes. so today we're starting out with clouds. a chance of rain. but unfortunately, not all of us will see the chance of showers. it's going to be very spotty and then we transition to some gusty winds and a red flag warning, which basically means that we're going to see high winds and extremely low humidity, which will increase the danger of any fires that will continue into the weekend. so this is a look at the rain that we're seeing right now. not a lot of wet weather. and we're also seeing a
5:32 am
lot of clouds with much of the rain. the green that you're seeing there staying just off the coast. but there is a little bit of some light rain for the coastal areas in the north bay, and that will continue to move through as far as temperatures for this afternoon. a little bit cooler than normal as our highs head for the upper 60s and low 70s. so we'll talk about those gusty winds and what's ahead coming up in the full microclimate forecast. kris sanchez right now. so kris you got some information about pg&e. what are they. hi there. kari. so that fire danger has pg&e warning all of us that we need to be ready to potentially lose power. at least for 24 hours or so in and high fire danger zones. cal fire and other fire departments are also warning to take that red flag warning very seriously. i'm in santa clara county, one of the five counties affected, and under that warning, alameda, contra costa, solano and napa counties also impacted the entire city of
5:33 am
santa rosa. also seeing elevated fire conditions because of the heat and the dry conditions and the wind. yeah, definitely. we're in the peak of a fire season right now in october, november. these fall months where everything has been dry all through the summer with no precipitation since early spring. once annette rain fall comes whenever that is, that's when we'll see some lightning of our critical fire weather. but until then, we're still deep in it and we could see any type of fire ignition. with the weather coming this weekend. now, because of the fire danger, pg&e is warning people to be ready for those public safety power shut offs. you know, they call them those pse says when they cut power to minimize fire risk. and those could start tomorrow and last through saturday evening. if you are in alameda, contra costa, mendocino, napa or solano county, that could impact
5:34 am
you. so make sure you charge up all of your devices so that you can stay in touch with people, and you can stay current on the fire conditions. and if you're planning your weekend, think about where you're going to barbecue, if you have fire, if you have car trouble, make sure you don't stop in any tall grass, which could, of course, spark a fire in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay. thank you very much, chris. well, keeping up with the weather has never been easier with the nbc bay area app. we're debuting a redesigned weather experience, and it's the only way to get your local weather your way from the people you know. be sure to download it at the nbc bay area app today. now let's check in with mike. he's tracking this morning's commute. yeah. good morning folks. things are relatively calm right now. i will rewind on my map system. sorry. we go back to the south bay where we did just hear about this crash on 17 at the camden avenue offramp. we're watching for any slowing. we don't see it, but that is an early start for activity in silicon valley. right here, right on schedule. we just see a little break
5:35 am
tapping and that will continue to build for north 101 heading up toward oakland road. reason we know that's going to happen is because coming up through san martin and in through morgan hill, we see that volume of traffic building. there's some more slowing as folks travel up 101 in towards silicon valley that will be there in another 5 to 10 minutes. as far as more slowing on the sensors, meanwhile, getting toward the bay bridge and easy drive through the maze, a little slowing on the span itself. we should see those metering lights on in just a few minutes, but i did want to point out highway 37 more slowing out of vallejo highway four here is showing the build, but look. 242. we've seen these slower sensors over the last 20 minutes. they've continued to grow heading down through concord. so southbound two 42nd may have an issue. no problems for 680 or the walnut creek interchange. and here, right at the edge of the screen, we see folks slowing toward the toll plaza. that may indicate the build from the metering lights back to the toll plaza itself. it's about that time of day. as you're leaving the oakland area. back over to you. all right. thanks so much, mike. speaking of oakland, new overnight for you. a deadly crash there in the east bay. it
5:36 am
happened last night just before 11 on eastbound 580 and macarthur in oakland. now chp is saying that that driver of the pickup lost control, went off the freeway, crashing into a fence and parked cars on porter street. this is near bay beltway. the driver had to be extracted by firefighters from that truck. the person later died at the hospital. now, the reason the driver lost control and crashed is still under investigation. controversy surrounding the shuttering of schools in san francisco continues this morning. last night, superintendent matt wayne spoke with the community about the planned closures. however, moments before the meeting was supposed to start, this happene. the fire alarm at montessori school in pacific heights went off, and those in attendance were evacuated. one of the schools which could close or merge with another school. the meeting did eventually happen, but the media was asked to leave for parents and students privac. however, many made their voices
5:37 am
heard in front of the school anyway. they're not really knowing how to handle the budget, so we should maybe hand this over to state. in a letter, mayor london breed is sounding her own alarm about doctor wayne's plan to balance the district's budget, saying in part, quote, i have lost confidence in the superintendent's ability to manage the current process. any effort to engage in this conversation must be done with care, clarity and competence, breed added. that has not happened here and i don't have confidence that it can happen right now under the current conditions. doctor wayne is not commenting, but released his own letter which says in part, quot, without having the courage to make deep changes in difficult decisions, we cannot expect to meaningfully improve student outcomes. a final recommendation on school closures is due to the sfusd school board on november 12th. a final vote is expected in mid-december. santa clara
5:38 am
school leaders are expected to appoint an interim superintendent of schools. this is at their meeting tonight. now, the board is expected to appoint doctor charles hinman to that position. according to the east bay times, hinman currently works as the executive director of oxford preparatory academy. he also served as the interim superintendent at two southern california school districts. now, this all comes after the former superintendent, mary ann dwan, was fired from the school board. the board is still remaining tight lipped about the reason why. over the summer, the nbc bay area investigative unit actually investigated some of the complaints that while under duggan's leadership, the office of education misappropriated funds from a federal program called head start intended for low income children. well, yesterday there was a show of support for dwan where teachers, parents and current at least one of those current board members demanded a civil grand jury

investigation and her reinstatement. this has destabilized the programs it has caused injury to the students that we serve. it's left the staff in turmoil. it's left a lot of the work we do at the county office of education in chaos of elected officials sent a letter to trustees asking them to reconsider their decision to fire dwan. oakland mayor sheng thao is highlighting her administration's accomplishments in her first term as mayor. last night, she delivered her state of the city address inside city council chambers. among the progress she's highlighting, the work being done by the city's department of violence prevention. but opponents disagree with her claims that crime is trending down. dvp violence interrupters are now proactively in our communities every day, mediating through conflicts and preventing retaliatory shootings. we are a little delayed with reporting some of the stats for the city of oakland as far as crime goes, so it's hard to get a true
5:40 am
accuracy to where the crime levels are at. mayor thao also says the recent sale of the oakland coliseum is a win for the city. however, members of the city council are questioning the deal and how it will impact oakland's current budget shortfall. the speech comes as a critical time for mayor thao in november, voters will decide whether to recall her from office. a community resource center will soon be looking for help to move the bay area forward, so later today, a groundbreaking ceremony is being held for the new central american resource center. this is on market street in san francisco's tenderloin. mayor london breed and assembly member matt haney will be attending today's event. the funding for the $7 million center came in part from donations and the mayor's office for housing and community development. it is 540 right now. taking a live look outside before the sun's arrival over the bay area today, will we see the sun? i don't know. let's check in with meteorologist kari hall because you're talking a

little rain. yes. we're going to see a lot more clouds coming in throughout the morning. and that chance of showers. so as we watch this storm system approach, it is moving very quickly and will also bring in for some of us a chance of some showers. most of the rain. right now is along the coast and in parts of the north bay. the rest of the bay area. just seeing the clouds starting to move in and our hour by hour outlook shows it passing by and clearing out for the afternoon. so eventually we will see some sunshine, but the chance of showers will continue through about 7 to 8:00 for parts of the north bay and east bay, and then eventually into the tri-valley around 8 to 9:00 and into the south bay in time for the main morning commute and then starting to clear out around noon. sunshine the rest of the day, and then we transition to that chance of some gusty winds and increased fire danger. so i'll have more on that in a few minutes. and mike, you are seeing the build starting to come up at the bay bridge. yeah, pretty much right on schedule. we just had the last three minutes where we've

gotten to the edge of the screen all the way, filling up to just past the halfway point. the parking lot behind me at 80 overcrossing is just fine. so that's right on schedule for folks traveling throughout contra costa county and alameda counties approaching the area. highway 24 shows a little bit of slowing coming into the maze. 37 and highway four itself hold steady. 242 has not gotten any worse as far as the slowdown, but it started early in concord. still tracking that closely disabled vehicle possibly reported westbound across the richmond-san rafael bridge. i see those sensors slowing a little bit, so there must be something going on. no details from chp as we're looking forward even farther. we do that overnight again tonight. we're going to have that full closure of eastbound 37. getting over here toward atherton avenue, that short section that cuts off highway 101. you have to go up and over as your alternate on that yellow route, and that should be cleared by 5 a.m. we continue to follow that, of course, overnight as we start our show, watching out for all of you up there in the north bay. as we're looking toward the south bay, we have a smooth drive, your traditional build.
5:43 am
and tonight at sap center, we have who visited us yesterday, a powerhouse. hobbs is over there for the wrestling tonight at sap center. so watch it out, brother. there's a lot of activity. back over to you. that guy was like a rock. he was yoked. yeah, just like this. just like mike. just like that. watch out. you're going to rip that suit. i know that's a good one, too. don't do that. mike. thank you. all right. 542 for you this morning. and it was a case. it grabbed national attention, making waves. yet once again ahead for you this morning here on today in the bay. we're going to talk about those new developments in the menendez brothers case that murder case. we're going to show you the support they're now receiving as they push to have their case reevaluated. plus, have you voted yet? you don't have to wait until november. and they're setting records with early voting. plus making the bay area proud. the east bay native securing her spot on the voice and who she chose as her

backing up at the bay bridge toll plaza. san mateo bridge does not have metering lights activated, but we are looking at the active activity going across the westbound commute. that's a tail lights slowing starts on the span just because of the volume. well, happening today, family members are planning to gather in downtown los angeles in support of lyle and erik menendez. now, these are the brothers that were convicted of killing their parents inside of their beverly hills mansion back in 1989. they claim that they were sexually abused by their father and fear for their lives. well, now that case is gaining new attention, in part from the new netflix true crime drama monsters. the lyle and erik menendez story. l.a. county district attorney george gascon is actually taking a look at the new evidence that includes a letter written by eric to his cousin, andy cano, nine months before his parents were murdere, which allegedly refers to the abuse. a journalist explains how he found it several years after the cousins death. this is cano,
5:48 am
invited me to go through andy's room. i mean, the room had been untouched since he passed away, and within 15 minutes, i found this letter. i realized that this letter could be a major piece of new, hard evidence. gascon has not announced a timeline for completing that review into the case. 547 right now, two decision 2024 voters are setting new early voting records in georgia and here at home. scott mcgrew we've been able to vote for more than a week now. yeah, i assume you're still getting these fliers, right? yeah, absolutely. these are from my house just yesterday. this one on prop five. one on two. that's a school thing. and then santa clara county voter information guide. they're not going to do anybody any good at my house, because everyone in my household has already voted. you mentioned georgia. voting got underway yesterday, and within the first few hours, the secretary of

state there says 134,000 people had voted a new record. some are winning close to an hour to do it in person, even though they do have another 20 days to do i. donald trump, not far away campaigning in atlanta, where he praised early voting. now that's a turnaround for him. i'll tell you what i'm hearing very good things now. it hasn't been going on too long, but we're seeing numbers there saying, wow, those are big numbers. so in fact, they set a record for the number of ballots today. right now, following his defeat in georgia four years ago, trump blasted mail in voting in the state. he thought he had been cheated because the in-person voting was counted first. that put him ahead. then the mailed in ballots were counted, which put him behind. he was so angry about it, he told georgia republicans at the time they couldn't trust the special senate election held just weeks later. he never told republicans not to show up to the polls, but
5:50 am
some of his allies did. and that gave georgia two democratic senators enough to give democrats control of the u.s. senate. vice president harris will campaign with a group of republican leaders today in pennsylvania. here she is campaigning with republican liz cheney. some time ago, who used to be the third most powerful person in her party. harris will sit down for an interview with fox news as well, which will air at three this afternoon. the host, bret baier, says he'll ask harris how she's different than biden, something many people ask. here's biden addressing that very question while stumping for harris in philadelphia. kamala will take the country in her own direction, and that's one of the most important differences in this election. kamala's perspective on our problems will be fresh and new. donald trump's perspective is old and failed, and quite frankly, thoroughly, totally dishonest. new financial filings show tesla ceo elon musk is now the biggest contributor to the trump reelection effort.
5:51 am
musk contributed 75 million to his pro-donald trump group american pac. musk is paying as much as $40 an hour to workers to knock on doors in key states. and finally, a survey from the wall street journal of american economists show a majority, 68% of those economists say trump would run up prices faster than harris. 12%, answered harris. the issue is trump's plan to government deficit spending and tariffs. we'll talk more about those tariffs as we talk business. marcus in about a half an hour. all right. thanks, scott. well new for you this morning. one of the bay area's most famous and glamorous properties is about to give us the creeps. starting tonight, filoli the historic house and garden in woodside will launch its first ever nightfall event. organizers have decorated the 54,000 square foot mansion and gardens built in 1917 with candles, pumpkins and spooky items. the attraction's president and ceo says it's all
5:52 am
aimed at getting visitors into the spirit of halloween. we wanted it to be spooky, not scary. that was important to us and just taking advantage of the eeriness of night, which is why we named it nightfall as well, that it's just it's just a nighttime out in the middle of the woods in an old house, kind of thing, but with a lot with a lot of fancy touches, because we're still a fancy place and there are no reported ghost sightings in this property. well, not not really. no. i mean, they're they're it's just dark there. nightfall runs from 530 until 9:00 every night starting tonight through november third. it's open to anyone, including families with young children. remember, she says it's not scary. spooky. for details, you can visit their website. that's the dynasty house, right? i don't know. that's a good question. i think it is. i think. all right.
5:53 am
trending this morning. a bay area native making her voice known on the voice. casey actually grew up in piedmont, now living in los angeles. get this. if you didn't watch last night, she registered three chair turn for her rendition of levin from the start. take a look at this. please, just let me say that when i talk to you. you did walk right through the shoot. oh, yeah. that's right up your alley. right? like the sound of that. so the 24 year old first generation filipino american actor, musician and vocal director grew up singing in the piedmont east bay children's choir. gwen stefani, michael bay and snoop dogg all turned for k and when it comes down to choosing the coach, she went with gwen and she says she is truly excited to work with. i think it's going to be really inspiring to work with somebody who's made it so far in the industry and has such a fun personality, and someone who hasn't had to, you know, dim her
5:54 am
sparkle at all. you know, i think that's i think i'm somebody who thinks about that a lot. and so it's really inspiring to see somebody who is just as like, you know, bright and happy and bubbly. i like her energy. all right. so blind auditions finished up last night on the voice. the battle rounds began on monday, right here on nbc bay area. wow. i thought she would pick buble. yeah, i did too. i thought so as well. and i was like, what's reba doing? she was just. what? all right, well, we're getting started this morning with some rain, and then we're going to see the wind picking up all of this very typical of october, where we see big transitions and changes in our weather from day to day. so right now we have a cold front moving in. it's going to bring in some spotty showers. a lot more clouds and the best chance of seeing at least a little bit of some rain will be throughout the morning. we're already seeing some wet weather in parts of the north bay around yountville and moving around napa and just south of santa rosa, around rohnert park. we're seeing some light rain and then
5:55 am
also near the coastline for bodega bay, up toward mendocino county. so we're going to have that chance of rain moving through. here we are at 8:00 into the east bay, the tri-valley, as well as the south bay with that chance of rain. and then one last push of some showers before noon. and then after that, it's clearing out the rest of the day. we can put the umbrellas away, and we'll also have some nice mild weather for the afternoon. we're up to 77 in martinez, 71 in oakland and 80 in santa rosa. it will be in the low 70s for palo alto, as well as san jose, with upper 70s in the south county. and notice the nice little cooldown that we'll see for tomorrow coming down a few more degrees. so mostly 60s and 70s and then just a touch warmer for friday as the winds increase. will still be under this red flag warning that's expected to go up for tomorrow as the winds increase for pretty much all of the bay area, except for the immediate coastline in the north bay. we've been saying red flag warning a lot. so what does that
5:56 am
mean? it's issued 12 to 24 hours in advance of relative humidity, dropping down to 15% or less, and frequent wind gusts of 25mph or more. and both have to occur at the same time. so we are looking at the reason why we're getting these gusty winds, these two pressure systems, very close together creates what we call a pressure gradient. and that makes the air move very quickly. and it will start to pick up with those high winds by tomorrow afternoon. but really early on friday morning we could see really high wind gusts all across the bay area. so you want to make sure that you have your defensible space. you don't drive on dry grass and secure any toe chains, any fires that we see will be man made. so we do have to be very careful. and mike, it's harder for us to see the bay bridge right now. yeah. for us from emeryville, our camera looking across toward the bay bridge span does show those low clouds so we can no longer see the tower lights or the lights heading into san francisco, but traffic is moving smoothly. it looks like on the
5:57 am
deck. it's actually okay. it's just our view from berkeley. as we look over here. there is more slowing up the incline. the volume is the factor there. it looks like the disabled vehicle westbound across the richmond bridge has cleared from the chp report. those sensors should recover with more traffic feeding in out of richmond. some nice drives down through the east bay and tri-valley. and the south bay does show the slowing vasco road. now over a half hour though, as you drive out of contra costa county. back to you. thanks so much, mike. well, happening now for you. fremont police are urging more witnesses to come forward after a deadly crash. officers say that they're trying to figure out what may have led to that driver of the tesla slamming into that apartment building on old warm springs boulevard on monday night. investigators say that the car caught fire in the 46 year old driver from fremont died there at the scene. now, because the smoke was so heavy there, firefighters temporarily evacuated people living in the upper floors. one witness telling us that the driver was speeding and swerved aund other cars broef
