testimony expected today from the sister of the man accused of killing a san francisco tech executive. we're live with tough questions she's already faced from prosecutors. plus, our country is at a crossroads. and where we go from here is up to us. we can't stand you. your ashby vice president. both presidential campaigns sharpening attacks with just 15 days to go until election day. our washington insider breaks down the back and forth from capitol hill. and if you still haven't registered to vote, you face a key deadline today. the steps you can take to make sure that your voice is heard at the ballot box. this is today in the bay. and this is a monday morning. good morning to you. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we're going to start out with a look at the forecast for this monday. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. it's going to be a really nice day. it's good that we won't have to deal
5:02 am
with the wind. and we're still keeping the comfortable temperatures, but it is a little chilly as you're stepping out this morning in some spots. we've seen upper 40s in the north bay and it's now 50 in walnut creek, but mostly mid 50s across much of the rest of the bay area. this morning. and then looking at our highs for this afternoon. not bad. we'll be in the upper 60s near the coast and mid 70s for much of the north bay. as you move over toward the tri-valley will be in the mid to upper 70s and 75 today in san jose. tomorrow it's just a touch warmer in a few spots, but overall it's going to be a repeat of today and it will be a little bit warmer by midweek. mike, how's it looking now in the east bay? we're taking a look over at fremont kari because 880 just north of this shot here. so around automall parkway, outside of our view, there was a crash. took about an hour for that to clear out. there were some flares laid out. so as you travel south down toward the tesla area, coming down past auto mall, you may find a couple of flares likely burnt out by the time you get there, though, and we see no

slowing on the sensors. a smooth flow for the south bay and peninsula. there is one crash in brentwood. we're looking at highway four at the balfour exit. just watch that. if that's part of your drive. back to you. thanks, mike. well, this mornin, many are back at home in the oakland hills. this, as all evacuation orders were lifted following the kohler fire. that 15 acre fire broke out friday along 580, then jumped to two homes and a eucalyptus tree grove. just those two homes were damaged. containment is now at 85%. pg&e has restored power to the homes affected in addition to the fire in the oakland hills, firefighters were also forced to spring into action in castro valley over the weekend. flames broke out just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon there. three and a half acres burned as a result. investigators say the flames were likely sparked by a car fire. no one was hurt. the cause of that fire is still under investigation today. we expect critical testimony in the

trial of nima momeni from his own sister. he is the man accused of killing cashapp founder bob lee. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco this morning. and ginger, this sister's testimony is potentially really kind of dangerous for both sides. that's correct. good morning laura. and that is why her testimony has been widely anticipated. all eyes continue to be on césar. omari, the sister of nima momeni and a key witness in this case. now, she is a witness for the prosecution at this point. but what she says can be damaging to the case that either side wants to make. while her testimony on direct with the prosecution has been murky and she frequently states, i don't remember or i was under the influence, it will be interesting to see whether her testimony becomes more clear when the defense starts to ask her questions. that is, legal
5:05 am
analyst stephen clark. now let's take a look back at what he calls murky testimony. it began last thursday. that was the last day this case was on trial. last week, césar was asked questions by prosecutors about april of last year and what she remembers in the days and hours before her brother allegedly killed bob lee. now, prosecutors also asked questions about a series of texts that she received from her brother on the morning of lee's death. prosecutors believe an incident involving césar and lee is what led nima momeni to kill him. now, casa's testimony ranged from details about drugs to allegations of sexual assault, as well as one very direct message that her brother did not kill bob lee. prosecution knows she's a dangerous witness, and that's why they called her in their case to control her testimony. and if she does testify in such a way that helps the defense, it
5:06 am
hones in the prosecution that this case comes down to the forensics. the dna evidence that it was his dna on the handle of the knife, lee's dna on the blade of the knife, and the. not really is a fascinating trial to sit in on. it continues this morning at 930 at the hall of justice here in san francisco. the defense. laura, at some point is expected to take over questioning for césar zenni in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay. all right. we'll continue to follow. thank you very much, ginger. well, now to decision 2024. vice president kamala harris and former president donald trump pulling out all the stops in critical battleground states. harris spent the first day visiting atlanta area churches to energize voters. meanwhile, trump took to a fry cooker at a mcdonald's in pennsylvania today in the bay's alice barr. live for us in washington this morning. and alice trump is actually pushing unfounded claims that harris never worked
5:07 am
at the fast food chain. marcus, this is something that he has been saying repeatedly. he has not offered any evidence, and he sort of went out and tried to troll her by doing his own little weekend stint at a mcdonald's. it was part of a very busy weekend for both the nominees, and it's going to be a busy monday as well. vice president harris is sweeping through key suburban counties in three different battleground states today, again making an appeal to trump skeptic republicans, while former president trump will tour hurricane damage in asheville, north carolina, before rallying in greenville. just over two weeks to go until election day, the presidential nominee's barnstorming key swing states. vice president harris celebrated her 60th birthday with two church visits in georgia. our country is at a crossroads, and where we go from here is up to us as americans and as people of faith. kamala and a serenade
5:08 am
from stevie wonder. happy birthday to you. former president trump sending his birthday wishes from a pennsylvania rally. happy birthday and many more. and i mean it. after attempting to troll the vice president by working the fry cooker at a mcdonald's in suburban philadelphia, renewing his claims without evidence that vice president harris lied about working at the fast food chain while in college. she talked about the heat. it was so tough, she never worked at mcdonald's. the former president also stepping up profanity-laced attacks. we can't stand you. your. vice president, the worst vice president harris pushing back on msnbc. what you see in my opponent, a former president of the united states, really is it demeans the office in the final stretch, she zeroing in on mr. trump's mental state,
5:09 am
casting him as unfit. what time is it? it's voting time. and rallying supporters to the polls in detroit. part of a tide of early voters already making their voices heard. while campaigning for former president trump. excuse me? while campaigning for former president trump in pennsylvania over the weekend, tech billionaire elon musk announced he will give away $1 million every day until the election to a randomly selected registered swing state voter who signs his petition in favor of free speech and the right to bear arms. that's raising questions about the legality of the move. pennsylvania's governor said on meet the press law enforcement should look into it. marcus, i was thinking the same thing. that's very interesting. all right. alice barr for us in washington. alice, thank you. and nbc news, hallie jackson sitting down with vice president harris for a one on one interview. this is something you can catch exclusively tomorrow on nbc nightly news that's going to air
5:10 am

5:12 am
it will move over the bahamas and then continue on its track off towards the north and east over the next few days, remaining as a tropical storm so not expected to re-intensify. here at home, we're looking at clearing weather conditions. there is some rain just to our north, but that's going to reinforce the cooler air that we're feeling and that will continue into the next couple of days. heading over to you, mike, you've been tracking gas prices. how is that looking? we'll start the week. livermore has taken up the mantle of the best in the bay, with 389 still the same number there. this is at diamond gas and mart on south front road. a great way to start the week there. alameda county, the south bay is best. continues to be 399. we'll talk about cupertino car wash on north deanza boulevard and in solano county. that's the last number here. the low is up a bit to 419, pointing to fairfield's valero on north texas street. you can check out your local prices and changes that might have happened over the weekend. go to gasbuddy.com. on the roadways, not a lot of change
5:13 am
since the last report. we will look at a little bit of slowing that does show up north 680 around bernal. i believe the southbound side overnight work has cleared northbound. maybe around for another 45 minutes. the bay bridge toll plaza will start to back up over the next 30. back to you. all right. thanks so much, mike. well, still ahead for you. this morning. the company announcing major cuts amid severe profit losses. plus ensuring your travel plans if you get covid, the new policy many insurers are offering. as more and more people hop on planes post pandemic. plus, a zombie takeover. details behind this spooky site down south. what is this? well, keep it right here. we're going to talk about that when wreturn.e

san francisco. it's going to be partly cloudy throughout the morning and temperatures in the mid 50s. at 8:00 noon. we're still in the low 60s and most likely long sleeve or jacket weather throughout the day for some of our inland areas. a little bit warmer. we'll talk about this and what's ahead coming up in the full microclimate forecast. and my live look here is in the north bay, san rafael. these folks with the headlights, they're going to work likely most of these folks are as these twists and turns at the curves at terra linda. no problem. we're at the speed limit. let's see how the day is shaping up, what twists and turns there might be ahead of you. we'll check with silvan.
5:17 am
thank you. mike. good morning, i'm silvana henao from cnbc headquarters. wall street is set for a mixed open as the markets come off a sixth straight week of gains. and that's the longest streak for the s&p 500 this year. the dow and the s&p closing at record highs on friday. in focus this week we get data on housing durable goods and consumer sentiment. and earnings. season picks up with a fifth of the s&p and nearly a quarter of the dow reporting results. and the list includes three m, verizon, coca cola, boeing, ups, general motors and tesla. boeing is reportedly exploring the sale of some assets to bring in much needed cash for the struggling aircraft maker and defense contractor, and that's even as the company reached a tentative deal with its largest union to potentially end a more than month long strike by factory workers on the west coast. now, the wall street journal says boeing's new ceo has moved to raise at least $10 billion in cash and cut thousands of jobs

to stem losses that have magnified its manufacturing woes and impacted a massive supply chain. and more than 80% of holiday travelers say they're changing their plans because of inflation. a bankrate survey finds. nearly a third of people anticipate traveling fewer days than they would have otherwise, while 30% are picking less expensive accommodations and or destinations. now, more than a quarter say they're driving instead of flying and another quarter are choosing cheaper activities. the average cost to fly for thanksgiving is expected to be $925, and even higher at more than $1,100 for the december holidays, guys. all right. staying put? yeah. you and me both. savannah. all right. thanks. yeah, well, speaking. speaking of holiday travel, getting covid can certainly derail your plans after the pandemic. some travel insurance policies now cover
5:19 am
covid and some of the costs associated to adjusted travel plans. plans do range from the minimal basic coverage of an airplane ticket to more comprehensive travel insurance, including coverage delays, cancellations, even potential coverage of hospitalization. we spoke with a travel insurance insider who says the pandemic forced the industry to reevaluate it grew the market. it also put the industry through a bit of a roller coaster. as you can imagine, when covid hit, most everybody canceled those trips, and that put the industry into a bit of stress. that took them a while to recover from that. things to consider when thinking about purchasing travel insurance include the potential for delays or cancellations due to weather. are you making a significant investment in those travel plans? and is your health insurance active where you are traveling? 519 right now. trending. this morning zombies filling the streets of key west,
5:20 am
florida over the weekend ahead of halloween. yeah, it was all for the island's annual fantasy fest. costuming and masking festival. take a look. oh, so look, several thousand of the quote. the bicycle dead crowd, the atlantic ocean shoreline and streets. many of them wore the zombie costumes along with scary face and body paint. there were also the evil clowns, pirates, and undead brides. the fantasy fest goes through the weekend this upcoming weekend. like that's a long festival. i think it was last weekend. zombies walk slowly. they wrapped it up yesterday and you walk very slowly. it took them a while to get there. all right, well, we have a lot of changes this week in our weather. good changes. we don't have to deal with the high wind, but there still will be that elevated fire danger. just because we do still need to be very careful with the dry vegetation and we're also going
5:21 am
to be mild and sunny. looking ahead to the weekend, there will be some more of a cooldown coming our way, and there may be even some more coastal fog and drizzle. we'll be watching out for that. let's get a look at our high temperatures for this afternoon. milpitas. we're headed for 74 degrees. it will be 79 in morgan hill and parts of the east bay in the upper 70s low 80s 78 in concord and 73 in hayward. oakland headed for a high of 71. and we're cooling down near the coast once again with a high of 66 and half moon bay and 70. in redwood city. san francisco will, for the most part, stay in the 60s today, with a breezy westerly wind into the north bay. it's mostly sunny for the afternoon and 74 in sonoma. looking ahead throughout the week so we have rain just to our north, but it doesn't make it to the bay area and it looks like we'll see that same pattern again for the weekend into early next week. but notice how as we
5:22 am
look all across the west, there is a lot more snow on the map, a lot of it not yet making it to the sierra, but the rockies will have some cooler weather and some snow. and we're also going to feel that cooldown going into next week as we approach halloween. so yes, that is within sight and it looks like it's going to be a chilly one. so looking at our forecast for the next several days, concord we're going to be in the upper 70s and then low to mid 80s through the end of the week. so there will be a slight warm up going into the end of the week with a cooler weekend ahead. as we take a look at our 7-day forecast, we are going to see mostly 80s from wednesday through friday, even into saturday, but then we will be coming down for the weekend towards sunday. while san francisco stays pretty mild. and mike, you were taking a look at folks crossing the bay bridge. yeah, monitoring the volume across that bay bridge. quite manageable. picking up a few more taillights as we approach that. six 3530 time when the metering lights tend to turn on shortly after that, we're looking at a smooth drive into
5:23 am
the city. a clear view and no problems on the sensors, although there's a little bit of slowing on the incline. as the lanes come together, we lose some lanes and we do see some brake tapping, brake tapping as well. for highway 37, as you cross over from mare island out of vallejo. typical pattern, typical timing there and now a little blip. there you go. a couple more there, coming in toward pittsburgh, out of bay point or into bay point, out of pittsburgh. so we know that for the contra costa county drive, everything else light. back to you. thank you so much, mike. 522. this morning next here on today in the bay nbc bay area responds. the store hasn't put in a new appliance, even though the customer has paid more than 600 bucks. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. nbc bay area responds next. and a reminder we're debuting a redesigned weather experience. it's the only way to get your local weather from our trusted meteorologists, and it's more accurate than the weather app in your iphone. scan the qr code to download that app. we'll rightbe

a viewer whose big department store order had one small problem the store never delivered, so he contacted consumer investigator chris karma christian. good morning. jeffrey paid sears 658 hard earned dollars for a dishwasher.
5:27 am
well, two months later, still no word on when sears would actually deliver that dishwashe. so jeffrey tapped us. we contacted sears. here's what it told us. his delivery coincided with a system upgrade, and it caused his order to not progress properly. sears then delivered jeffrey's long awaited $658 dishwasher. we recommend making purchases like jeffrey's on a credit card. that way, if a store doesn't deliver and doesn't respond to you, you can dispute the charge. doing that should get the company's attention and get you either a refund or your merchandise. if a company's not delivering the customer service experience, you expect, tell us. snap the qr code on screen right now to fill out our consumer complaint form online. thanks, chris. well, coming up next, the top stories we're following for you today, including increases to the minimum wage, the all new findings into the impacts the move has had across california,

windy, hot weather made for a very stressful weekend, perhaps nowhere more than in the oakland hills, where a fire forced dozens of people from their san francisco is in crisis and we need real experienced leadership.
5:29 am
we need mark farrell. our interim mayor who got things done. who showed we can clear tent encampments, fight crime, and address the drug crisis. who will make the tough choices for our city's future. "i'm mark farrell. i'm running for mayor because san francisco deserves better." "i'm ready to deliver that change on day one." mark farrell. a proven leader with the experience we need.

a brush fire in the oakland hills. the timeline on when the firefight could soon be over, as first responders remain on the front lines. hearings begin in
5:31 am
just a matter of hours, months after protesters shut down the golden gate bridge due to the war in gaza. the reason their attorney says that district attorney brooke jenkins should be taken off the case. plus, a double loss for the wyoming football team. they hit the hit they took off the field during this weekend's game against san jose state. this is today in the bay. good monday morning to you. thanks so much for starting your day with us. it's 530 right now i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. a lot to get to this morning. first, in the oakland hills. all residents are back in their homes. but the smell of smoke, not only the reminder that the kiley fire burned through throughout the weekend. that's right. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us now with the power outages really compounding the trouble here? you know, it was just so stressful for all of them over the weekend. and the lights were still out at bedtime as bedtime neared last night. but as of this morning, the good news is the power is back on. the keller
5:32 am
fire is now 85% containment. at last check, that was last night. we'll check again this morning. and everyone who was under an evacuation order this weekend finally was allowed to go back home. mountain boulevard, which was closed on friday afternoon when the fire started, is once again fully open. and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. but what we know right now is that it started along 580, then jumped to two homes and then into a eucalyptus grove, which then just really took off. that's when people were forced from their homes. two families lost their homes, something that was not lost on the people who were lucky enough to go back home. it was a little emotional for me just to not be able to come home, you know? but thank god all is well. it was a relief very happy to be able to walk through the door. i think i was the first one home. so start flipping on lights start feeling a little sense of normalcy. oakland fire and cal fire crews
5:33 am
will remain in place, watching for hotspots in the five acre area that burned. that red flag fire danger now behind us. but just for now, as kari has been telling us, october and november weather can be gusty, can be dry, and until the rainy season starts, we all need to be fire ready now. kari hall is talking to us about that, but because of the red flag warning, cal football game on saturday had a different feel. no live cannons, no outdoor barbecues were allowed. everybody trying to do their part when that dangerous. yeah, we were watching the air quality to over the weekend with that fire burning in the oakland hills. the good thing is that our air quality has improved significantly. it is pretty good this morning, and we're also seeing the wind calming down and humidity going up. so that tends to slow the spread of anything that may still be smoldering in the brush in the oakland hills, and the temperatures come down to 55 degrees may even cool a couple of more degrees before sunrise, and we'll see a lot of
5:34 am
clouds through the next several hours with peeks of sunshine late morning. we're headed for 71 degrees. it's going to be a very pleasant day with highs in the mid to upper seconds for parts of the south bay into the east bay, as well as much of the north bay. so we'll talk about changes ahead. mike, you're starting with a look at walnut creek. yeah, because there will be changes ahead right here. this is 680. the tail lights really split with 24 just there in walnut creek. as we look at the map we see no green at that walnut creek junction or the split, i guess i should say just above it, though we do see highway 4 continuing to build up a lot out of antioch and toward pittsburg bay. point folks may be heading down kirker pass, so we're watching that top of the screen. highway 37 continues to build the extended, slowing there and now slowing across the bay bridge. no metering lights just yet. we'll see those in about five minutes, maybe less. the rest of the bay shows a nice easy drive of san jose starts. a little bit of slowing for 101. back to you. thank you very much, mike. it is 534 today. the sister of nima momeni is expected to continue her
5:35 am
testimony in the high profile murder case of bob lee. kazama's. nima momeni first took the stand last thursday. she didn't finish her testimony and was not in court. will court rather wasn't in session on friday. prosecutors believe an incident involving cezar and lee led nima momeni to kill the cash app founder in april of 2023. the defense claims it was lee who first pulled out a knife, forcing nema to defend himself. hussar says that nema did not kill lee, but some of her answers to questions appear to be contradictory. today in the bay ginger conejero saab is talking with legal experts as the highly anticipated testimony is expected to join us, with a live report coming up in our next half hour. also today, preliminary hearings begin for the protesters who blocked the golden gate bridge. you may recall they brought traffic to a standstill in april while protesting the war in gaza. 26 demonstrators face charges, but their attorneys are asking the
5:36 am
court to dismiss the case completely. they're saying the san francisco district attorney has been handling the case with political bias. one of their attorneys says the protesters acted in good conscience. like other historical movements, we've reached out to the da for comment. well, an especially tough loss in san jose over the weekend during a san jose state football game. the target was the opposing team. while they were on the field in san jose. so the university of wyoming cowboys lost to san jose state on saturday when they returned to the locker room. well, that's when they realized some of their personal items were stolen. san jose state police say ten cowboy players wanted their belongings missing. police say that sports gear was also swiped. we did speak with san jose state head coach or the head lacrosse coach about the need for more security. i can't believe that we don't have better security to have somebody there manning the door to make sure who's coming in, who's going out to steal even one bag. why is somebody walking out with a bag, let
5:37 am
alone ten people's items? university police tell us that they are now investigating and checking security camera video. well, the 49ers once again having a tough time getting things right this season and being snake bitten by key injuries. yesterday over at levi's, they faced the chiefs in that super bowl rematch. about the only bright spot was the return of top rookie wide receiver ricky pearsall, two months after being shot in the chest and an attempted armed robbery. now pearsall had three catches, but without some key players. the niners, they just made too many mistakes to keep up with the chiefs after losing deebo samuel to an illness early on, brandon aiyuk suffered what feared to be a major knee injury and quarterback brock purdy threw three interceptions, including two in the red zone. now the niners lost to the game there 28 to 18. afterwards, purdy admitted this was not his finest hour, but pearsall said that he felt grateful to be back on the field. i got to play
5:38 am
better, for sure. just with my throws, some decisions. and that's that's pretty simple. all the adversity i just went through these past month. you know, it was really good to go out there with my guys again. you know, they did a really good job of rallying around me, making sure, you know, i stayed up and it was a huge blessing for me today. okay. so the niners have now lost five straight games to the chiefs, including two losses in the super bowl. the team should learn more today about whether or not aiyuk is done for the season. it's been six months since california increased its fast food minimum wage to $20 an hour. critics predicted the move would cost the state jobs and lead to big price hikes, but a new study shows it didn't. the center on wage and employment dynamics at uc berkeley released findings on the wage increase. while wages increased by 18%, unemployment and employment numbers remained stable and menu prices increased by less than 4%. it's good to hear. all righ. so here we go a live look for
5:39 am
you this morning over in walnut creek. folks moving along on the roads. temperatures outside. well, let's turn to meteorologist kari hall for that. how's it looking, kari or phelan avenue? i should say. yeah, it feels a little chilly out there. this morning. and we've seen a lot of temperatures in the 40s and low 50s. overall, it will be a mild and sunny day, but we do still have to watch out for that elevated fire danger with temperatures above normal. even though we're not expecting extremely high winds at times, it does tend to get a little breezy out there. and then looking ahead toward the end of the week, we will have some drizzle and slightly cooler temperatures going into the weekend, but as you're stepping out, the door in mountain view at 8:00, it will be in the mid 50s, headed for the low 70s for this afternoon and mike traffic being metered at the bay bridge. now timing is no surprise. we do see a little bit of backup right on schedule for a monday. the center lanes of course first and we'll quickly see these others fill in to about mid parking lot by the time we take a look again. so we have a smooth drive on the approach through the maze. the inclines were the most
5:40 am
of the slowing is. but you saw it at the toll plaza. more built for 37 more build for highway 4 coming in toward the concord area. and we'll see. 242 see some slowing right now we're still at green. looking ahead, we do have a concert at the oakland arena tonight, so there will be crowds as you pass by after work. they may be slowing to get to their exits some unfamiliar with the area. we call out events for folks disruptive in the area, perhaps for some of the traffic. we know this is a disruption, bart for the rest of the month. bart shuttle toward the to the airport will be offline. they use the bus instead, so ac transit number 73 will take you. there are no other problems besides ace. ace does have a delay out of stockton. everything else operating for transit on schedule. back to you. thank you very much, mike. 5.39 right now, floating dead anchovies, triggering a massive cleanup at the santa cruz harbor. you may recall large swarms of the dead fish started showing up last month. a harbor master says that's because anchovies, like shallow water this time of year. many were worried the fish would die off
5:41 am
because of a lack of oxygen. one man says he's even tried to pump more of it back into the water, but it didn't work. we had so many anchovies that they just used up all the oxygen in the water. it started dying off. so we're scooping up as many fish as we can. as that happens, santa cruz is working to quickly get rid of the dead anchovies. soon they'll start to smell pollute the water and a result, damage boats. all right, 540 this morning, months before leaving office, president biden issuing a new birth control policy. ahead for you this morning on today in the bay, we're going to talk about the new rules aimed at making the pill free. plus, la versus new york city, the dodgers clinching the national league pennant. we've got reaction from fans this morning. plus, i was grinning like i'm winning. i was hitting my marks cause i can do it with a broken heart. say it isn't so. and end of an era. wow. i didn't know you. i'm not.
5:42 am
but you know what? it is an era. taylor swift's world tour coming to an end. we're going to tell you about the final shows we have and the cheapest tickets you can now get. stick around for that and much more. washington loves to talk.
5:43 am
i love to get stuff done. it's who i am. as mayor, i tackled homelessness... ...added 200 officers in 4 years... and saved our taxpayers $3 billion dollars. i've already got a plan to lower your grocery and insurance bills, to address climate change, and protect reproductive rights. and i'll work with anyone to get it done. i'm sam liccardo and i approve this message.
5:44 am

some tickets possibly available. we actually spoke with tiffany funk. she's the co-founder of flight search website point me, about which cities would be the cheapest to travel. if you want to catch swift, one last time. if you are coming from the western half of the us and the bay area especially, it's a little bit counterintuitive, but your best value is actually going to be by attending a show in indianapolis or toronto. and that is because the tickets are a little bit less expensive. you can still get two seats together at the toronto or indianapolis shows for like a thousand ish apiece. indianapolis is a little bit more, and those flights aren't too bad. oh, yeah. have you been checking mr. eras tour? not for that, though. eras tour, wrapping up shows in new orleans, indianapolis, as well as kansas. you heard her talk right there. her final performance is in vancouver, which is close to us on december 8th. oh, so it's our last chance in a few months. yeah. i'm seeing if i can get the jet. i have a friend who she flew to

proud. there is a 12 acre ranch in san jose's east hills, where you will hear sounds you would expect and sounds that are unexpected. still, it all makes sense. after meeting ranch owner matt robin, because unexpected is a great way to describe his journey here. a good place to start is when matt was 12 at a theater summer camp. on the last day of that class, they actually taught us how to juggle, and i ended up turning that into my career for almost 25 years. yes. matt spent close to half his life as a circus performer. he ended up living and performing in chicago, where he made a life change that was, yes, unexpected. i took a complete, i guess you would say, right turn and actually joined the chicago police department. matt spent the next four years on bicycle patrol, still not totally turning his back on his performing background. i mean, i'd literally pull somebody over

on a traffic stop, and then i ended up making a balloon animal for their three year old, and they just had to go, like, what just happened to me? so in tandem. yeah. it was also around that time that matt picked up the bagpipe, started wearing kilts, and with wife emily, began rescuing chickens in their chicago backyard. small backyard in chicago. we started with three chickens and then our vet calls us one day and says, hey, would you be able to take somebody? somebody can't keep this chicken. do you want it? and somebody can't keep this duck. do you want it? we all of a sudden became the kind of de facto, you know, not official rescue, but just started with that. yeah, we started with three, and now, honestly, i've lost count. but i do know everyone's name. matt and emily soon realized running an official farm animal rescue. that's boots is what they really wanted to do. that's athena and went looking for a place to do it. good girl. oh, is mama coming too? they opened rancho robin rescues in 2021, and things have just grown since then. yeah, we have a little over 200 animals. full size horse, two ponies, three alpaca,
6:00 am
three sheep, six pigs. easily, 100 chickens, 30 plus ducks, six geese, a turkey. everybody here truly is a rescue who just lives their best life and doesn't have any kind of role to perform other than living out life. and it all may seem, you guessed it, an unexpected place for a circus performer turned cop to end up. but matt doesn't see it that way. so whenever people say, i don't understand how you got from a to b to c to d to e, and i'm like, they do all truly tie together. and in the easiest sense of the word is i love helping people and i love interacting with people. oh yes. and saving animals is just what you would expect someone like that to be doing. garvin thomas. thanks. all right. now at 6:00, high stakes testimony. the sister of the man accused of killing a san francisco tech executive returns to the stand this morning. the tough question. she's likely still to face pulling out all the stops
