"early today" starts right now. good morning, i'm frances rivera. we begin with breaking news. five people, including three children, were killed in a shooting in washington state. a male juvenile has been taken into custody and will likely face murder charges, authorities say. law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire at a house in fall city, about 25 miles east of seattle. in addition to those killed, a girl in her mid teens has also been hospitalized. the local sheriff's office says it is unclear what relationship, if any, there was between the suspect and the victims. we are learning new details about that deadly helicopter crash in houston. the chopper that flew into a radio tower on sunday was on an air tour flight when the accident happened, the ntsb said. all four on board were killed, including a child. the helicopter crashed into the

the men wiere teens when they were arrested for wrongfully assaulting a woman in 1989. they spent years behind bars before being exonerated by dna evidence. during the debate, mr. trump said they pleaded guilty and that the victim died. in reality, they pleaded not guilty, and the victim survived. the men are asking for a trial to determine damages. the trump campaign called this a frivolous lawsuit. the u.s. is launching a new push for diplomatic solution to the crisis in the middle east after israel killed hamas leader yahya sinwar and then hit branches of hezbollah's financial arm in lebanon. secretary of state antony blinken arrived in israel this morning as an israeli official now tells nbc news israel has discussed an egyptian proposal for a short cease-fire. let's turn to nbc foreign correspondent claudio lavanga. good morning, claudio. >> reporter: good morning, frances. let's start with the proposal by egypt. essentially, it is a proposal for a small-scale cease-fire. it involves a six-weeks-long

cease-fire in exchange of six israeli hostages. now this will be, hopefully, the first step towards a wider agreement, a longer cease-fire, and perhaps and hopefully the end of the war. and this is one of the things that will be probably discussed with antony blinken during his visit in israel, which is only the first leg of a wider week-long tour of the middle east that will take him to also j jordan and qatar in the coming days. now this is the 11th time or visit by the secretary of state in the region since the october 7 attack last year. and any attempt to broker a cease-fire and hostage release deal in the past have either failed or stalled. but the experts believe the biden administration this time hope that the recent death of
