election. the harris campaign responding, quote, donald trump thinks he's above the law, and that a second trump term where a more unstable and unhinged trump has essentially no guardrails is guaranteed to be more dangerous. trump has called smith's prosecutions political, pointing to a recent statement by president biden. >> we got to lock him up. [ applause ] politically lock him up. lock him out. >> reporter: the white house says the president was just referring to politically defeating trump. >> he's not allowed to say that. he's such a stupid guy. >> reporter: garrett haake, nbc news, tempe, arizona. former sp"sports illustrate model says she was groped by donald trump while jeffrey epstein watched in 1993. williams went public on a survivors for kamala zoom call where women discussed their experiences with sexual violence. she says she and epstein were

friends when he took her to meet trump, who she says groped her breasts, waist and buttocks within moments of their meeting. she says the men smiled at each other and spoke calmly. nbc news has spoken to seven people who say williams previously told them about the incident as early as 2006. a trump campaign spokeswoman called the accusation unequivocally false. negotiators from israel will meet to try to find a resolution to the conflict in gaza. officials will attempt to resume long-stalled negotiations for a cease-fire and the release of hostages. this as u.s. secretary of state antony blinken is also in the region trying to achieve a breakthrough or at the very least progress. let's go live now to nbc's matt bodner in london. what do we know, and is there any more hope this time than the last few negotiations? >> reporter: christina, good morning. the united states has been dialing up the pressure on israel in recent days to wind

down its military operation in gaza, following the killing of yahya sinwar. with blinken emphasizing repeatedly that israel's war aims have been achieved. with that in mind, blinken's visit is the cap stone to the meeting. u.s. and israeli negotiators are travel to doha to try to move thins things forward. the major question now, who speaks for hamas. sinwar's death has seen by some as increasing the likelihood of a cease-fire agreement, one that includes the release of hostages. but it has also left a power vacuum within hamas. appearing with the qatari foreign minister in doha on thursday, blinken said it was unclear that hamas was ready to rejoin the talks following the killing of their leader last week. blinken did say, however, that the u.s. was working with intermediaries in egypt and

qatar to find some tway forward. among them is a proposal for a two-week cease-fire in exchange for six more hostages. qatar's foreign minister said their conversations with the political wing of hamas says there is no clarity on who will take the helm and what the path forward will look like. all of this comes as israel continues its military operations against hamas in gaza but also against the iran-backed hezbollah in lebanon. and of course the worsening humanitarian situation within gaza. back to you. >> matt, thank you. on thursday, the los angeles district attorney announced he will seek resentencing for eric and lyle menendez, which could potentially allow the brothers to walk free after being behind bars for decades. nbc's dana griffin has the details. >> reporter: l.a. district attorney george gascon's recommendation for the menendez brothers to now be sentenced to murder makes them eligible for parole. so now this will go before a judge who will decide if he agrees with the d.a.'s

recommendation, and then the parole board will decide whether or not eric and lyle menendez will be released, which could be immediate when that decision comes down. now, during the press conference, the d.a. says that even though these brothers never thought that they would ever be released from prison that the journey of redemption and rehabilitation has been apparent. he says, jquote, i believe they have paid their debt to society. he acknowledges these were two premeditated murders. that is why he is not seeking manslaughter charges. and he said that although he disapproves of the way these brothers handled their alleged abuse, he believes it is time for them to reunite with their families. it's split. some family members want them out of prison. but there is an uncle who believes the brothers should not be released. back to you. >> okay, dana, thank you. the justice and transportation departments are launching a joint public inquiry

into competition or lack thereof between airlines. this, as the boeing machinist strike continues after their union rejected the company's latest contract proposal. tom costello breaks it all down. >> reporter: the transportation and justice departments asking americans' opinions on everything, from airfares to competitive behavior as they consider new predictions. the industry insists eairfares are already at historic lows. boeing's disappointed that 33,000 workers remain on the pickett line, ha, haviline. afteline. after younion members voted to reject the company's latest contract offer. >> i voted no, and i'm feeling like they're continually trying to give us the bare minimum, and it's ridiculous. >> reporter: boeing's latest offer includes a 35% pay hike

over four years, bonus and incentive pay and bigger 401(k) contributions. but the union wants a 40% pay hike and return of employee pensions, which the company scrapped ten years ago, leading to years of anger and animosity. >> if they're not willing to give it, we have to get something that replaces it. >> reporter: the strike enters week seven with the aviation giant still dstruggling. the new ceo says boeing must focus on the engineering expertise that made it great. >> obviously, the later that strike ends the more impact that h will have in terms of how fast we're able to recover. >> reporter: boeing believes it has leverage. airlines complain they're not getting the planes they ordered, affecting their ability to fly their schedules. back to you. >> tom, thank you. a fall cool down is coming just in time for the weekend. nbc meteorologist angie lassman

is here with our forecast. good morning, angie. should i have brought a coat? >> good morning, christina, yeah, unfortunately, i, too, had to ask myself that question. do i need a coat? it's been up and down. the rollercoaster ride of temperatures continues for a lot of folks. we've got a cold front working across parts of the midwest and the great lakes. this is going to be something that will get your attention this morning if you live across this region. we do have some of these showers and thunderstorms that we'll look for here through the day today. this is going to leave us with the potential for some rain in our morning forecast. this is going to be something that you'll see, chicago, stretching down to st. louis, into the upper peninsula of michigan. not going to do a whole lot for working this rain into parts of the northeast, unfortunately. but we will be looking at a bit of milder conditions, kind of settling in. they already have for parts of the northeast. this is going to be something that means 50s and 60s for a lot of folks. the middle of the country, though, unfortunately, not going to see a whole lot of relief. the temperatures are going to be well above normal once again, anwe'll bed on,
