5:02 am
well as we're getting started. another chilly morning with our morning temperatures in the upper 40s in some spots. look at sunnyvale. we're at 48 degrees now, but it's 52 in oakland and we're at 42 now in sonoma. in santa rosa, 45 degrees. a look at our high temperatures for today. we're back to yesterday's numbers with some upper 70s and low 80s. 80 in livermore, 82 in gilroy and in santa rosa, also 80 degrees. so we'll get a look ahead to some changes in our sunday forecast that's coming up. but mike, there's already a delay on one of our bridges. yeah a light traffic. here's the toll plaza richmond bridge over towards san rafael. westbound 580. it's mid span where this 37,000 pound semi truck with a trailer stuck blocking one lane. cones are out there and they're waiting for the right size tow truck to help them. we're looking at maybe 530 until that equipment gets there. so this could be an early slowdown as you're traveling across from the east bay into the north bay. that could shift some traffic down to the bay bridge right now traffic is so light we don't see
5:03 am
that. and minor delays only on the mid span area. the rest of the bay shows a nice light drive as you would expect. back to you. thank you mike. well, this morning a momentous shift for the menendez brothers. the two men are behind bars for the murder of their parents in 1989. later this morning, los angeles district attorney george gascon will ask the court to lessen their sentence. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab joins us live this morning, ginger. this all comes as gascon running for reelection. that's correct. laura and marcus. but he tells nbc news that this has nothing to do with the election. d.a. gascon will file his recommendation today, requesting that life without parole be removed due to the time spent already behind bars and the age of lyle and erik menendez. when they committed that crime. now, the d.a. will make his recommendation. but ultimately, the decision lies in the hands

of a judge. the brothers, 21 and 18 years of age at the time of the crime, shot and killed their parents in their beverly hills home in 1989. defense attorneys for the brothers argued they were sexually abused by their father. however, after two trials, they were convicted of murder and sentenced to life without parole. years later, the tide is shifting, with family members and supporters calling for the case to be reconsidered based on what you saw at the announcement today, with the support that they've received from the community, from the relatives of their family and from what they've done in prison, they have a very good chance of getting out on parole. now, that was stephen clark, who gave his analysis on this yesterday. the attention on this case has been renewed worldwide. thanks to social media pleas from family members, celebrities, a netflix show and

5:11 am
it will be in the mid 50s on sunday as the system moves in. also some really high winds here at home. we know you have to get out the door for work and in san jose it's going to be partly to mostly cloudy. over the next few hours. we will see those temperatures going from mid 50s headed for 80 degrees, and it will be a nice sunny and mild afternoon. we're going to also see a lot of upper seconds and low 80s across the bay area. today. the same weather we've had all week continues today. mike, how are those gas prices holding steady and pretty good for a friday. we haven't seen a big price spike our low for the day. the low for the bay. livermore has 379 at foxy gasoline on old first street. the south bay finishes the week same as it started with the best of 399, and we call out sunny bills national petroleum on old san francisco road right here in the middle, and we'll end in the north bay. solano county's best is 415 for your philip in fairfield valero on east travis boulevard. sorry, i'm blocking the number. there you go. the website down here is buddy gasbuddy.com get and give those

that is a chilly start and may even dip a few more degrees around sunrise, but we'll see more clouds coming in in the next few hours, and a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day, eventually clearing for this afternoon as temperatures head back to the upper 70s here and we are going to have a little slight chance of rain in the forecast. so we're going to talk about that. the timeline coming up. and right now it's oakland drive looks great 880 past the coliseum. if you're taking bart to the oakland airport. just

that note they continue with the maintenance. so they're only running half of those shuttles. it will take you 18 minutes extra to factor that in. if you're taking bart to the oakland airport. well good morning. very happy friday to you. big day for microsoft. it has a big video game coming out. we'll have more about that coming up in just a second. look at shares of spirit airlines. this is a huge percentage of that. this company has been in trouble for a while. remember it wanted to sell itself to jetblue and the government said no. now it's cutting workers, selling airplanes. it'll give it about a quarter billion dollars in cash to work with. but it may not be enough if you got a gift card for spirit, use it now. mortgage rates are on their way up quickly. that's related to the bond market, which is experiencing a sell off as part of what investors call the trump trade. when bond prices go down, their yield goes up. now, if trump wins and the bond market is predicting he will, the

states in court. okay, i mentioned microsoft. do you remember it bought activision, which makes the famed call of duty video games? well, there is a new version of call of duty today. call of duty as a series has sold more than 450 million copies, generated $30 billion in revenue. let me put that in perspective. that is star wars level money and 450 million copies sold. that's harry potter copies of books, not just harry the entire series put together a lot level. it's a lot. i remember you guys set it up there in the other room. do you remember that? yes, i do, a long time ago. a long time ago. yes. we should do that again. i'm sure you'd win. thanks, scott. you bet. well, trending this morning, the golden state warriors getting a brand new tipoff anthem. take a listen to this. don't lose your head. i'm
5:19 am
ready. you're ready to jump. are you ready for this? all right, so the team tabash bay area's own pillow and jaws for this song. it's called don't lose your head. i actually got a chance to talk with the marin county native jaws about this inspiration for the song. if i'm going to do something for the bay, i want it to feel as bay area centric as possible. so, you know, working with a rapper from the bay, it was kind of, you know, a no brainer. and he has been, you know, so awesome to work with for me. but he also has worked with the warriors in the past. he's working with them now. he's done a lot of stuff with the niners as well. so like he was the perfect guy to tap for it. you know, jaws and pillow head, the new track will be played during the wars game at chase center, but you can also listen right now. the new single is streaming on all services now. maybe we should have like an intro song, like
5:20 am
when you walk in the room. oh yeah, we need to have walk in music. you don't hear it when mike walks in the room. i typically hear it. i'm like, you hear that? there we go. yeah, all right. head bobbing. everybody needs a song. big cheer song. okay. all right. walking on sunshine today. yeah, i guess so. i mean, we're getting ready for a great weekend. lots of big sporting events, including the warriors home opener. we've got the 49ers and of course, the pumpkin patches and everything. that last weekend before halloween. so for the warriors home opener, we're looking at temperatures in the low 60s in san francisco on sunday, and it may be missing and drizzling a little bit. we're going to be watching out for that. it's also going to be chilly throughout the evening, with a breezy wind and our temperatures dropping down to the low 60s. we know you have to get out the door for work this morning. the wind is calm, the sky is mostly clear and we've come down to 49 degrees in walnut creek. it is 54 in san mateo and in san jose it's 52 degrees. but our afternoon highs are going to be really nice. upper 70s for milpitas as well
5:21 am
as cupertino and morgan hill, as well as gilroy. 82 will be that high temperature. and then for the east bay, mostly low 80s from antioch to pleasanton to walnut creek, and 77 again today in oakland, 77 for palo alto and upper 60s for daly city and half moon bay. we'll also see a high of 69 in the marina district today, while downtown will be in the mid 70s. and for the north bay, upper 70s and low 80s with lots of sunshine. we are going to see some clouds moving in, but definitely more clouds moving in for sunday. during the afternoon we'll see this cold front coming in that will bring in some rain. a possibility farther to the north, but very spotty rain chances for the bay area. not expecting a lot out of this. and the north bay will have the best chance of at least measuring something. a lot of our models are putting down a few hundredths of an inch of rain on sunday, and if you do see some showers, it's going to be very light. and that's coming in sunday into early monday.
5:22 am
then temperatures coming down with highs in the low 70s next week. but our morning temperatures in the lower 40s. get ready for that. mike. you've been tracking a couple of big rigs on the road. yeah. the first one we told you about. we'll show you still here on the bridge from richmond to san rafael. slowing mid-span because it's blocking one of your two lanes. it may be a while until they get the crew there. maybe another half hour. we're tracking the progress, but so far, no updates on that span. the bay bridge is moving smoothly. everything throughout this portion of contra costa county moves nicely. but look, highway 37 does start even on friday. that early slowing just took a few extra minutes there. the rest of the bay shows a nice drive, but the other disabled big rig reported 880 right around dixon landing road. no slowing in the southbound direction. we'll get another update and i'll let you know what's going on. coming up, back to you. thanks, mike 522. next on today in the bay, nbc bay area responds. one viewer has drama with a tv bill and another is fighting an inhospitable hospitality company. i'm consumer investigator chris

trump, meantime, has agreed to go on the joe rogan podcast taping that today. this is something the harris campaign is at least considered, but never locked down. rogan speaks to a lot of the audience that harris has been unsuccessful in reaching. former president trum, meantime, rallied in tempe, arizona, where he once again said people crossing the border were from insane asylums and prisons. that's what's happened. that's what's happened to her. we're like a garbage can, you know? it's the first time i've ever said that. and every time i come up and talk about what they've done to our country, i get angrier and angrier. first time i've ever said garbage can. but you know what? it's a very accurate description on social media. trump called his former chief of staff general john kelly, a lowlife. kelly gave another interview, this time to the washington post, in which he once again warned against using american soldiers against american civilians, something trump has mused about out loud.
5:35 am
kelly told the post american military officers would resign if given that illegal order at a cafe in las vegas, a reporter asked about allegations in the atlantic magazine that trump had praised hitler. trump denied it and said, i never said that. i would never say that. the latest new york times poll shows trump and harris in a dead heat, just as yesterday's cnbc poll did, and the wall street journal as well, all within the margin of error. of course, those are national polls, and we don't elect presidents with a national vote. we vote state by state. new york times this morning with an article wondering out loud. is it possible trump will win the popular vote but not win the election? that's what's happened to hillary clinton and al gore, though lawrence never happened to a republican. very interesting. thank you scott. 535 right now in oakland, three campaign volunteers who were going door to door for incumbent city council member carol fife says they were attacked last

5:38 am
be particularly critical as the niners try to maximize this home field advantage as they take on the cowboys. they are still trying to recover, as you said, from that disheartening loss against the chiefs last week. the niners could be going into sunday night's game against the cowboys without their top five offensive players. brandon aiyuk is out for the season. christian mccaffrey is out for at least one more game. deebo samuel is still recovering from pneumonia, although coach shanahan says he's recovering very well and jauan jennings has a hip injury. george kittle, by the way, also questionable because of a foot sprain. our 49ers insider, matt maiocco, says that playing at home means more rest because they don't have to get on a plane and travel to dallas, but it also means the energy from the 49ers faithful. i think where the team is now, they certainly need to have a home game, followed by the bye week so that when they get back out there they can make that playoff
5:39 am
push. the question is, and this is a big one, whether they start the second half of the season, their final nine games with a four and four record. and that sounds a heck of a lot better than a three and five record. so that's why this game against the cowboys is so very important. all right. so to make sure that the fans are fired up for sunday night football, the team is hosting a rally at guild house in downtown san jose on saturday from 1 to 4. it is free and it is family friendly. just go to the 40 niners.com fan section to register ahead of time so they know you're coming. the team's marketing vp says that fans need to make levi's stadium deafening for dallas. i know our fans are strong and proud to represent the 49ers, so i have full expectation that they'll be raucous and ready to go and ready to support the team on the field. you can watch the niners cowboys game right here on nbc bay area. nfl on nbc. kickoff is

at 520 sunday night. of course, we have coverage ahead of the game. interesting fact this is a battle between the highest paid quarterback, dax shepard, and the lowest paid quarterback, brock purdy. so let's see if all that money makes a difference. hopefully the weather will be in the n, we're really pumped about this weekend. generate a little bit of warmth there as well because it will start out with low 70s a with low 70s and temperatures will drop down to the upper 60s by halftime. and then mid 60s by the fourth quarter. slight chance of some drizzle. i'm not really thinking this is going to make a big difference here. so we are looking at mainly dry conditions. all right. so we also have the wake forest versus stanford game tomorrow. so this is going to be a nice one. temperatures in the mid 70s a mix of sun and clouds and a breezy wind. it's going to be perfect weather for that. but we
5:41 am

5:51 am
we're standing in the beautiful grand ballroom, which is a party that you're going to be invited to where some strange things happen. so it's an incredible immersive experience, and our guests are really enjoying checking in and maybe not checking out. oh, interesting. like hotel california. hey, so is it going to be kind of similar to some of the tours that we were able to take in the past, and they take you through different sections of the winchester mystery house? well, you're not even going to know where you are in this house. this is actually the longest route we've done for a halloween nighttime tour. so you are on four floors, two basements all over, and people do get very, very disoriented very easily. and it's also self-guided. so you're on your own self-guided. well, look, let me come on over. is the door open? please do. please, marcus. marcus. we talk. we talk every year. we're still waiting. open invite. you know
5:52 am

5:54 am
higher humidity and then usher in some cooler temperatures for the start of next week. so we're going from highs in the 80s to 70s, and a lot of our microclimates may only see highs in the 60s throughout much of next week. and for san francisco, we're also going to see slight rain chances on sunday, clearing out on monday and highs in the mid to upper 60s. and mike, you're saying the crews are still trying to clear a big rig. yeah. the update on the chp report says there are crews there, but they are trying to get the truck into neutral southbound 880. this is just south of auto mall. we're looking actually in a slightly different area, a little farther south to dixon landing road. that lighter volume of traffic starting to pick up the volume, but no slowing yet. this rig may still be in your second lane as you're heading down toward 237. now, south of there, things are showing that typical northbound 101 little build there that should clear up in the next few minutes. meanwhile, the tri-valley looks great for your typical friday. a lighter volume, but still we have a little bit of slowing for highway four into concord. highway 37 holding up steady there, and the bay bridge at the
5:55 am
toll plaza itself. we're just starting to pick up the volume. friday will tend to see this backup forming a little bit later. back to you. thank you. mike. well, a stanford doctor is in the fight of his life. this is after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. and as he goes through treatment, he's decided to share his journey by teaching a new course to help educate future physicians. garvin thomas with this morning's bay area, proud. good morning everybody. i have a special story to share with you. it's about a stanford doctor using his personal story to help train future generations of physicians. doctor brian lin is teaching a new course at stanford this fall. it's about the journey of a patient dealing with a serious illness. that patient. well, it's doctor lin. although doctor lin had never smoked in his life, he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer earlier this year. while he is undergoing treatment, doctor lin says he feels well enough to lead a class focused on lung cancer in nonsmokers.
