investigative reporter hilda gutierrez. i immediately put the carrier down, open it up, and i, buddy, wake up. bailey wake up and he doesn't wake up. his body is completely stiff. it's a moment michael cantillo says is seared into his mind. he had just stepped off a five hour flight from new york to sfo when he realized one of his two french bulldogs, ash, did not survive the flight. i'm on the floor. i'm very noticeably and perhaps embarrassingly, weeping over my dead dog. just three months prior, cantillo says he flew from san francisco to new york with both dogs, without any incident. i brought them to the vet to make sure that they had an entirely clean bill of health, and the vet said that they were healthy enough to fly for both flights. cantillo says he paid for first class and

followed alaska airlines policy of signing up in advance to carry both bulldogs on board with him so they could travel under his roomier seats and had time to settle in before the flight. however, minutes before taking off, cantillo alleges in his recent filed lawsuit that crew members told him to move to coach for safety purposes. what did they say to you? they abruptly said, we need you to move to coach. and i asked, why. silence, i got nothing. at that point i then said, hey, listen, we've been seated here for 20 minutes. the dogs are all calm now. i'm moving them at this point is going to make them really anxious and scared and stressed. and that's dangerous, especially before we're about to change altitude, before the cabin pressure is about to change. and they completely dismissed everything that i said

went unacknowledged. cantillo alleges in the lawsuit that ash immediately started breathing very quickly and heavily with noticeable anxiety, but that he was instructed to close the carrier and that he complied, but noticed that ash stopped moving but could not check on him until after a certain altitude had been reached. cantillo tells us his dogs were both in carriers under the seat in front of him, and during the flight he noticed his three year old dog was quiet but assumed he had fallen asleep. and what i'll never forget, never forget, is having the entire crew and pilots deboard the plane looking at me, weeping over my dog, and not a single one saying coming over to offer any help, any condolence. cantillo is suing alaska airlines for breach of contract, negligence, infliction of emotional distress and seeks unspecified damages. his

china poses to this country. and yet, donald trump recently called his domestic political opponents, quote, the enemy from within and said they are more dangerous than russia and china. do you believe that people like adam schiff and nancy pelosi are more dangerous than russia and china? well, i think what donald trump said is that those folks pose a greater threat to united states peace. and security, because america is strong enough to stand up to any foreign adversary. i agree with him. they pose a larger threat to the united states than russia and china. what he said, and i do agree with this, what he said is that the biggest threat we have in our country, it's not a foreign adversary because we can handle these guys. we can handle foreign conflicts. we can handle. look, under nancy pelosi's long life and public leadership, the united states has gone from the preeminent industrial power of the world to second next to china. that fundamentally belongs on nancy pelosi's shoulders. and if we're going to have a more prosperous country, we've got to recognize our own leadership is why we lost our industrial base to china. our own leadership is

starting to reshape our elections. supercharged storms like helene and milton might destroy polling places, but they can also create renewed motivation to vote. people deserve to be heard. we'll find a way to vote. what can you do? but i guess vote out some people and vote in people who are putting that as a priority. that enthusiasm is also reflected in new data from the environmental voter project. the nonpartisan group is contacting 4.8 million voters across 19 states. all who prioritize climate action but rarely or have never voted. every election, the big question is will young voters and particularly young climate voters, actually show up? and so far, the data isn't just encouraging. it's extraordinary. nathaniel stinnett leads the nonpartisan group. and so far, this election, they've already rallied more than 100,001st time voters to cast ballots in key swing states like pennsylvania and north carolina. let's just take a state like arizona.

arizona was decided by fewer than 10,500 votes in 2020. we've identified 230,000 potential first time climate voters in arizona. so, yeah, these climate voters who typically sit on the sidelines could make an enormous difference if they show up this fall. and so far they are more frequent and extreme. disasters could also bring even bigger changes in the future. five, six years now. i heard evidence of that while talking with longtime floridians impacted by hurricane milton. so what's going through your mind after this yet again? i don't want to be here anymore. i'm leaving this area, and i've been here since 1974. i think there's a lot of people that are just going to sell. i mean, the older people, like i said, on fixed incomes, can't afford this. so when you and your neighbors or all of a sudden say, you know what, i don't know if i can live here anymore, you know, people start to build a kind of momentum socially, and then all of a sudden, people, in fact, really do move. jesse keenan studies climate migration at tulane university, and he's

noticing climate impacts, disasters, pushing more americans to move, which could eventually redraw the electoral map. so to say it, another way, we might see more purple states in the future. yeah, and i think that's ultimately a very healthy thing to move from very hard divisions of blue and red to create more competitive political geographies in this country. in new york, national climate reporter chase cain. rob mayeda joins us now. time to say farewell to the warmth. yeah. reality check. it's easy now. it's going to be okay. that was an echo i heard the weather had. it has been nice. it was warm today, but we're about to see some changes starting tomorrow. we're going to see cooler changes. and to give you an idea of where we're headed, let's show you today's high temperatures. probably the last of the 70s and 80s around the bay to our inland valleys. technically above average temperatures from san francisco to the valleys. now, keep in mind those averages. upper 60s in san francisco, mid 70s

and oakland, it's about a 10 degrees drop for high temperatures tomorrow with 60s bayside and still some low 70s into san jose. monday will continue the chance of scattered showers, but very scattered in terms of the showers kind of being offshore. a few more inland here, but look at the cierra temperatures are getting cold enough to support some snow showers at times. and as the skies clear heading into tuesday morning, wind sheltered valleys of the north bay, 30s and 40s. so if you've been sending the kids off to school in a jacket, shorts and t shirts for the last couple of weeks, get ready for the long pants and long sleeves, because we got the chilly mornings with 30s and 40s and high temperatures in the 60s inland. and yes, as we approach halloween, a chance of another chance of showers here for the north bay, mainly into the morning hours of thursday by the evening you notice the rainfall map, not increasing. so right now that's a good timing where your halloween forecast is setting up for thursday. mostly morning showers on thursday, but look at the highs and lows for
