stadium, we have the ticket for you. you can watch the game right here on nbc. bay area kickoff is at 520. levi's stadium, though, can fit about 68,000 fans during football games. you can bet all those seats are going to be filled today with a sea of red and gold, maybe a little blue and silver here and there as the niners and cowboys take the field today in the bay's marianne favro reports on the excitement taking over the bay from shopping at the team store to grabbing food, the excitement about the big game is already paying off for businesses. the search for the perfect niners merch was on at the bustling team store as football fans bought up shirts and hats to wear when the niners take on the dallas cowboys. it's a rivalry that began in the 70s and is still going strong. it's the ultimate rivalry. dallas cowboys 49ers. i'm old school, i appreciate this. susie marberry came all the way from san diego
7:04 am
to watch the matchup. this is my first. so i'm so excited because it's on the bucket list. so i get to check the bucket list. so who's going to win the 49ers? of course you heard two different predictions because the fletcher brothers have a rivalry of their own. clayton is rooting for dallas and jackson is a niners fan. this will be our first time going to a game together. the alhambra niners fans from texas and are finally enjoying a chance to freely wear their niners gear without catching grief. we're from el paso. it's basically cowboy country, so i mean, we get a lot of hate from friends and sometimes family with people from all over the nation visiting santa clara for the big game. nearby businesses, including pizza my heart, are getting a slice of the profits from additional football loving customers every single game day. our doors are flooded, packed outside and we have people coming in buying beers, whole pizzas and it affects every

new this morning part of highway 17 is now fully reopened after this small fire broke out last night. the flames sparked just after 730 along highway 17 near glenwood drive in the santa cruz mountains. the fire did force some home evacuations. cal fire, fortunately, was able to contain the summit fire to little more than one acre, and a major route across the north bay is back open this morning after a gas spill yesterday afternoon, crews worked overnight to clean up and clear parts of highway 37. that's a busy route that crosses solano, sonoma and marin counties and connects highway 101 with interstate 80. the road was shut down around 330 yesterday afternoon after a crash just outside vallejo. the chp tells us. two vehicles crashed and a big rig flipped over. you can see that photo there. it spilled gas into the

community stepped in. today in the bay's alyssa goard takes us to the city owner raymunda ramirez loves working behind the counter at el faro mexican restaurant in the mission. she's proud of the food and the legacy of this san francisco business. this restaurant has been in the mission for five decades, and raymunda has been the owner for two of them. but a big blow came this month when she says the restaurant was broken into three separate times. three times. and i did what i feel so sad and angry, raymunda says. the break ins will cost her more than $30,000, and also rattled her sense of safety. we're hearing that she might want to close the restaurant and, you know, and this is a staple and the legacy here in san francisco. and so, again, we just want to uplift her spirits, help her raise some funds and hope that she doesn't close it. that's when the community stepped in and organized a pop up event with music, raffles and more encouraging neighbors to come out and support el faro. now, it

was one of the first places my husband brought me when we were dating. yeah, so it's memories. this family drove two hours just to be there. we heard on the news they were going to be closing down, and my son decided to take a trip in the city. the outpouring of support from the community is leaving raymunda with a change of heart. maybe this is what i say. i'm going to close, but i'm not. i'm not going to close. moving forward is expensive and challenging, but now raymunda realizes she won't be doing it alone. very, very happy because i don't. i don't expect that i'm going to happen like that. alyssa goard today in the bay and we continue to count down until election day. just nine days remain as the race to the white house continues to run through battleground states. vice president harris was in michigan yesterday and so too was former president trump. before traveling to pennsylvania. in kalamazoo, former first lady

formerly worked for trump who aren't voting for him. i know you had the opportunity to interview vice presidential candidate j.d. vance. i'm wondering if you were able to ask about this or anything in that realm. kira i did, it was one of the central exchanges of my interview to get his perspective and his reaction to general john kelly saying this. look, he was quite defensive. he said that john kelly was making this argument based on policy differences. the reality is that general kelly was making this argument based on the definition of fascism. but he also tried to argue that kelly was the only one making the argument, not the case. you have a number of former trump officials who are making a similar argument. general milley, for example, the former chair of the joint chiefs of staff, two former defense secretaries who say trump is unfit to serve, not to mention his vice president, mike pence. so we went back and forth on that. but it's fair to say that senator j.d. vance, on defense,
7:15 am
digging in his heels on this argument, saying this is nothing more than disgruntled employees. i think the big question just zooming out here, how will voters view this type of comment from general kelly? and more broadly, of course, from vice president kamala harris, who's really making this central to her closing argument. we know she's going to be delivering a speech at the ellipse here in washington, d.c, the very site where trump spoke on january 6th. we're told it's going to be a broader speech. it's not going to be solely about democracy. it will encompass other rights and freedoms like reproductive rights, the economy, health car, for example, but that clearly, clearly, the backdrop and the implication will be that former president donald trump and her closing argument is a threat to the democracy. and actually, piggybacking off that, harris speech, before i let you go, i want to ask you, harris, is zeroing in on that closing argument, emphasizing the threat that she says a second trump term poses to our democracy. do you have any idea what democrats
7:16 am
are saying about the effectiveness of that message and or i know you're speaking exclusively with independent bernie sanders today. do they think this messaging is effective? great question, kyra. senator sanders, i did ask him about it. he believes, okay, it should be part of the closing argument, but it shouldn't be the entire closing argument. he wants to hear more about how she's going to reach out to and help and lift up working class voters, and he thinks that should be central to her closing argument as well. also, senator sanders and other allies have said reproductive rights, because if you look at the 2022 midterm elections, for example, we know that this was an energizing factor. if you look at special elections in the wake of 2020, in the wake of roe v wade being overturned. we know that the issue of abortion has been key to driving out some voters, and our polling tells us as much as well, that voters are energized around this issue. so we'll be listening very closely for the language that she uses
7:17 am
from now until election day. will she start to round it out and expand all of her speeches to really include a larger focus, not just on the democracy piece of it, but the economy and reproductive rights as well. and we'll be listening to you for a preview of all that. christian, thank you so much for that insight this morning. nine days to go. we hope you join christian for this morning's meet the press. she will have that exclusive interview, as i mentioned, with senator bernie sanders as well as republican vice presidential nominee, senator jd vance. if you just stick right here with us for today in the bay meet the press is on at 8 a.m. right after this newscast. and just as every sunday coming up in about 30 minutes from now, we'll talk to nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston for our weekly segment. we'll take a look at all the early voting underway. the historic numbers and how those might impact the election. yet another team has declined to play the san jose state university women's volleyball

was lovely. definitely i think that's the warmest we're going to see for a couple of days, not only during the day but at nighttime too. so everybody get those thicker blankets and those fall jackets ready to go. let's take you outside and see what it's looking like over san jose. maybe you're coming down here for the mystery house or getting the party started for the niners early this morning. cloudy skies as we see that front that has pushed on through the bay area. those shower chances up to the north for us. i'm not looking at anybody squeezing out a significant amount of drizzle. so as we take it hour by hour for you help you plan this final sunday of october, those drizzle chances still going to remain over the north bay mountains out towards the coast. everybody else should be in for a much cloudier and cooler day, as the breeze also picks up with this front moving through, we are some places not even going to see the sunshine for today as that cloud cover remains dense and that's going to bring down those temperatures as we take a look and see only some low 60s around the immediate bay from san francisco down into hayward,
7:22 am
we're going to see some upper seconds for wine country. low 70s out towards fairfield and down into the santa clara valley. so that was the warmest day yesterday for quite a few. and you're going to need those thick niners jackets as we go on into sunday night football right here on nbc bay area. upper 60s to start. notice the winds picking up as well. and we'll get down into the 60s as you exit the stadium. so make sure that you're bundling up if that's too cool for you. we go on into monday tracking a similar pattern to today with some spotty drizzle. this event is going to be mainly focused over the sierra, bringing some light dusting to the upper peaks. and what that's going to do for us as that front pushes through. it's going to dip down those temperatures as we go on into our overnight lows monday night into tuesday, 30s and 40s on the board, especially up there in the north bay. so you might notice perhaps some frost on your windshield, perhaps the tire pressure light coming on as that cold front pushes on through and compresses those tires. we have another chance of rain ahead. yes. the pattern

best rivalries in nfl history. from the catch by dwight clark in the early 80s that ignited the 49ers dynasty to their epic battles in the 90s, to more recent history, where the niners eliminated the cowboys from the playoffs in back to back seasons in 21 and 22. now, this season has been a struggle for both teams. the niners are three and four, while the cowboys are three and three. both teams are dealing with injuries to key players, especially san francisco. despite the setbacks, the niners will have no problem getting up for this game. sunday night football against the dallas cowboys as a 40 niner like it's really special. and so we all take pride in that and are thankful to be able to be able to play in this game. and yeah it's a rivalry. so there's nothing better than that. it doesn't matter what kind of season either of us have had. you know, we kind of understand the battle that cowboys 49ers always is, especially a primetime sunday night game. everything's at stake, and we got to make sure we play like it. college football. cal

you know that doesn't work like that. thanks so much for starting your cloudy sunday morning with us. the final sunday of october. i'm kira klapper cinthia pimentel has a quick look at our microclimate forecast, and you're explaining those clouds are kind of keeping us warmer this morning. yeah. and the same sentiment as your kids. i wish i could lay there and just spend all day forgetting about life. but, you know, we must move on. we're trying to peak through that cloud cover, though. see, as far into mount tam. but it is a cloudy start. a bit more mild, though, as as the temperatures bumped up a few degrees under that insulation, we're going to keep the cloud cover around though in san francisco. a few peeks of that sunshine. temperatures 64 degrees later on this afternoon. it will be a mix of sun and clouds down here for san jose. all of those 49ers pre-game celebrations. temperatures here only in the mild low 70s. we've got quite an active pattern ahead system after system. as we count down the final days of october, i'll walk you through this at a

slower pace in about ten minutes. kira back to you. thanks, cynthia. not only counting down the final days of october, but counting down to election day. the race to the white house, running through battleground states. vice president kamala harris was in michigan yesterday, and so too was former president donald trump in kalamazoo. michelle obama introduced harris. the rally has been obama's only appearance on the campaign trail since she spoke at the dnc over the summer. meanwhile, former president trump rallied in a suburb of detroit where he received the endorsement of prominent local muslim leaders, including the arab american mayor of dearborn heights. during the rally, he made an apparent reference to members of the democratic party telling attendees that he is fighting a quote, amorphous group of people that seem to be invisible, getting americans to cast their vote for president is just half the battle. it's also important to weigh in on every part of your ballot. and now there's a tool you can use to help make

informed decisions. our nbc's brie jackson is in washington with more on the importance of down ballot races and the efforts to make sure people know who and what they're voting for. all eyes on the top of the ticket in this razor thin race between vice president harris and former president trump. are you ready to make your voices heard? you've been waiting for this so long. get out and vote. but how americans vote in other races could determine how easily the next president's promises made on the campaign trail can be pushed through congress. so those down ballot races are important not only for broader support for the party and the general party's candidate, but also for thinking about governing, moving forward. this year, there are 34 senate seats and all of the house up for grabs, with bitter battles for control of the upper chamber playing out in states like ohio, maryland and montana. also on the ballot, hot button issues,

things like access to abortion and reproductive rights. nine states have ballot initiatives on the ballot that would expand or protect abortion and reproductive rights at the state level. with power in congress and issues that matter most to americans at stake, there are efforts to ensure voters are informed. we don't tell people who to vote for, but we put the information there so that people can make a decision with extra information and feel really good about the decision. they're making. shaniqua mcclendon is with vote save america. their build your own ballot tool allows users to put in their address and view summaries of federal, local, and judicial contests, as well as high stakes measures. while you cannot use it to vote online, it does serve as a sample of what to expect. so statewide ballot initiatives, those are written in really complex legal terminology, and we go through all of those and just break them down in plain english and say what a yes vote means, what a no vote means. and

helps address growing concerns about the spread of misinformation. being able to go to a trusted source where you can just get straight information is really important. all of it important to casting your ballot and having a say in your future. to only vote on the people in washington will never provide a complete picture of the world you could have. and having, you know, as many people as possible who are aligned with your beliefs in elected office, from the top to the bottom of the ticket, your vote matters. in washington, brie jackson, nbc news. and as we reported yesterday morning, almost all bay area counties kicked off weekend voting yesterday. san mateo county opens today. solano county plans to open weekend voting next saturday. so far, contra costa county is the only county with no weekend hours offered just yet, and we continue to have you covered for all local races. if you scan that qr code on your screen, it will take you to our full voter
