talent that he that he possessed. but just to see his mindset and the way that he's continued to grow his game. man starting nickel, starting outside corner like that's so hard to do in this league. and he does it so well man. and like you mentioned that bag coming. he's just going to keep keep getting them interceptions. and he's going to be all right. absolutely fred. it's been a season with i mean so many injuries offensively some defensively. you fell to three and four. what's the locker room been like because i know everyone said this 49ers team's going back to the super bowl then injuries then no mccaffrey and then a three and four record. how's the team been? sort of holding it together. yeah it's been tough man. obviously not the start that we wanted. and you talked about it the injuries. but in my mind it's never an excuse. you know it's always a next man up mentality. the nfl there's always going to be injuries. we have a very you know veteran group in this in this team. so it's up to the veteran leadership to really bring the young guys along. that's i'm always going to put it on myself and guys like the george kittle and the trent williams, the deebo samuel's you know, to play big in these type of games and
9:01 pm
all them guys did man in a big way. and i'm excited that we just got the win for the bye week is coming up. you know as players we love the bye week. what do you guys have planned and what do you think you have to work towards and work on you know to fix coming out of the bye week? yeah i'm looking forward to the self-scout see where we can get better as a group because we got to be better, man. that's that's what i'm looking forward to, is being our best version of ourselves going forward. we put ourselves in a good position to really take this thing to the next level after the bye. i'm also looking forward to just getting healthy, man. you know, we're all we're all grinding dog, you know, ankles, knees, everything man. so i'm looking forward to that week of just getting healthy. so you know myself and everybody else can be the best version of ourselves. and hopefully getting some guys back. put the feet up and chill out a little. right. you got a week off. thank you fred. yeah you got it man. congratulations. thank you man. all right. the great fred warner the 49ers a huge win on sunday night football against the dallas cowboys. we'll take a break dante nile continue on sports sunday presented by xfinity. we'll talk more about the defensive backs that dante praises so much and gives the tough criticism to. and we'll also get our toyota drive of the

sunday, presented by xfinity. it's our toyota drive of the game. it is brought to you by toyota. in the second half, 49ers were in trouble. they needed some offense and purdy finds george kittle. 43 yards to the cowboys four yard line. the offense just got going in the second half. they did. they solved the problem versus man coverage. and when you have a safety like wilson covering george kittle it's going to be a difficult day. this is why kittle exposed the defense. three catches for 100 yards on one player. isaac guerendo had a great game four yards out. the niners would take a 13 to 10
9:05 pm
lead. they just went on a run. in fact they scored 30 points. the majority of them in the second half. i seen a marked improvement in guerendo tonight. his footwork, the efficiency and his movements. pad level, getting out in the open field and delivering blows to defenders. he took another step in his evolution tonight. he finished with 14 carries for 85 yards. you think about the evolution of him. mason who got injured know mccaffrey. we're all surprised mccaffrey hasn't played this season. he's supposed to come back maybe after the bye. there's some time. how do you think the running game has responded without him i think he's responded quite well. and when you think about bobby taylor and how he prepares all of these guys as if they're starters, that's why they're performing at the level that they're performing. nobody really expected christian mccaffrey to miss this. miss this amount of time during the season. and jordan mason stepped in seamlessly. and he's the second leading rusher in the national football league. and then you
9:06 pm
get guerendo who was a draft pick. you didn't really expect much from special teams. and now he's coming in to close games. it's a great thing that the 49ers have a crowded backfield defense has had some injuries. dre greenlaw, other people. overall, it's your side of the ball. how would you assess how the defense has played? not just tonight, but so far this season i would give them a c plus grade in the entirety of the first eight games of the season. they've had c plus c plus. it's not a great grade, it's not a great grade, but that's room for improvement. they're going to have dre greenlaw return. they're going to have talanoa hufanga return. along with the way that the rookies are playing with malik mustafa and renardo green on the outside. jaire brown is playing at a high leve, so i would give them a c plus just because of all the injuries and sometimes because of the lack of run defense and the missed tackles. but all in all, c plus dak prescott did not have a great game. he does have a great wallet. he's very attractive from the wallet up with that new contract. but it
9:07 pm
is the 49ers have his number. do you think he's overrated? why do you think they did so well against 49ers? definitely have his number. they're four and zero in the last four games and he's thrown eight interceptions in that. in those last four games. and they seem to be one step ahead. and a lot of it is pressure and coverage working together. just like today when he floated that ball up over the middle and jaire brown went up and intercepted it, it was nick bosa on the inside move, getting in dak prescott's face so that he couldn't step into the throw. and then sam ochonu all of these guys bringing consistent pressure. and there should have been another interception at the end of the game that fred warner. that's what when fred came over he was disappointed. he definitely was disappointed because he expects being a leader and a captain of this football team to end the game on his terms. so i understand why he's frustrated. well, the good news for the 49ers. the nfc west is wide open. when we come back dante and i will talk about tha. everybody almost is four and four. and the 49ers they're not
9:08 pm
at the top, but they're certainly not at the bottom anymore. we'll talk about the division when we continue live from levi's. of course, after the us raj and janelle are live here and with a preview of the news, here's gia with the news coming up next. hey, dave. hey, dante. coming up in just minutes on a special edition of nbc bay area news, not just the niners. a big night for the warriors two dub nation. kicking off a new season at home. we'll take you to chase center. also, you pay to use them, but not everyone does. so how often are express lane cheaters getting caught? we investigate and this could impact your halloween plans. we're tracking some rain chances this week. the updated timeline minutes away on a special

immediately following the nfc westivision. it's pretty tight. cardinals, niners and seahawks are all four and four. 49ers beat the seahawks. they lost to the cardinals. the rams are three and four. it is a bye week coming up. what would you do on a bye week and how much real rest time are you allowed on a bye week. well every head coach is different. and the amount in the amount of time that he gives his players off and a lot of time they like to dangle that carrot in front of you and say, okay, three weeks heading into the bye week, if you guys go three and zero, we'll give you an extra three days added to your bye week, okay? if you go two and one, you get two days, you go one and one, you get one, you win zero, you get zero extra days. so that gives a lot more incentive for players to go out there and play hard, knowing that they'll have almost two full weeks to rest up. so i'm not sure if kyle shanahan does that, but it sounds like it. and i can see the twinkle in fred warner's eye that he's going to have a few days off. cowboys fall 30 to 24.
9:14 pm
us for this special prime time edition of nbc bay area news, we are coming to you live from levi's stadium, extending our 49ers coverage on this big sunday night as the 49ers beat the cowboys. a little close at the end, but they beat the cowboys. i'm raj mathai and i'm janelle wang. look at that jumbotron shot. 49ers win. we have a lot coming your way. we're going to take you inside the 49ers locker room. and we've got interviews here on the field. one of the players just joined us here on the sidelines. all star definitely in this game. in the meantime let's talk about this game a critical win a crucial win 49ers win over the dallas cowboys. 49ers were rolling along in that third quarter and the cowboys came back. got to hand it to the cowboys for keeping it close. definitely keeping it close. but the third quarter 21 unanswered points. by the 49ers they were pretty dominant in that third quarter. here's how it all started. before the game coming out. all these injuries for the 49ers. but this is great news for the 49ers and the niners nation and the faithful. deebo samuel leading the charge. he was banged up, still recovering
9:15 pm
from pneumonia. he was a big factor tonight. he had labored breathing on the sidelines. i heard. but he was such he really showed up. and this is something else that happened before the game. a lot of pregame love. 49ers. tradition. their families always close by. tight end george kittle hugging his wife, his family and then on the offensive tackle trent williams picking up his baby girl right there. look how cute that is. giving daddy a big hug. love to his family as well. it's just always so heartwarming to see all the players on the sidelines with their families before every game. janelle. this wasn't a must win game, but it was a gotta have it game. and really, here was the turning point in the game. third quarter the niners came out of that locker room man they were energized george kittle on this national tight ends day. he had a huge night this 43 yard pickup down to the four yard line. kittle with seven catches for 128 yards. and then the rookie isaac galindo punches it in his first nfl td. what a moment. that was
9:16 pm
kind of the turning point in the game. early in that third quarter the niners turned the corner. and they hold on to win this and improve to four and four on the season 30 to 24. they beat the cowboys. isaac lauren doyle the rookie from louisville starting his first season getting his first touchdown. he was just on the sidelines with us just minutes ago. we spoke to him about today's win. joining us now is isaac lauren doyle the rookie. congratulations on a big win. you got your first nfl touchdown man. man that one felt good. it felt good. obviously you know the main thing was getting that getting that win and finishing right there. so you know more than happy about the touchdown but more excited about the win. the second half really things turned around for the 49ers. what was the conversation in the locker room during halftime. you know i think a lot a lot this week you know was a lot of player talk. and just like you know it's in our hands. we need to take advantage of things. we need to finish better. and you know we were able to do that tonight. what happened to the halftime speech from coach shanahan. because there had to
9:17 pm
be something there that he said, because you guys came out on fire that third quarter, right? yeah. you know, we talked about just self-inflicted wounds. you know, we had some some penalties and stuff that hurt us pretty pretty. well, you know, we probably left another 14 points out there in the first half. but you know we were able to switch that second half and then you know finish more. so that was that was great. okay. your first touchdown you got the ball. you kept the ball. what are you going to do with the ball. i am going to put it in a frame some type of frame glass base i don't know. but i got to cherish that one for sure. you don't speak like a rookie. you seem very mature and very balanced. hey, that's that's a compliment. how does this come about? what clicked in your mind to do that? you know, honestly, just my parents, you know, they instilled great things in me. so and i appreciate them. but, you know, i pride myself on being humble, you know, putting others before myself. so, you know, like i said, you know, i'm glad the team got the win today. christian mccaffrey out. jordan mason out. you stepping in and stepping in in a big way. what have they told you during this season and prepped you for this
9:18 pm
rookie season for you. you know honestly coach turner has done you know an outstanding job of just you know coaching everybody the same. you know preparing everybody as if they're going to start the game. so you know having him coaching us you know you know you never know when your number is going to get called. so you know just being ready and staying ready. obviously you know we didn't plan on mason going out today. but you know i was ready for the moment. and you know he prepared me for that. so last question for you. you going into the bye week you're feeling good. what's your plans? you know honestly, probably just stay around here, hang around here. i got a lot of exploring to do in the bay area, so maybe i'll do a little bit of that now. but definitely, you know, just plan get my get my body back. right. you know, make sure i'm ready to roll when we when we come back. so. and there they are. they are right back in it in the nfc. so we go from galindo to george kittle certainly the star of this game. but his impact and leadership when things aren't going well for the niners that's what really stands out in many ways. he's kind of like the draymond green of this team. the heart
9:19 pm
and soul of the 49ers. as for tonight, he is now the fifth all time leading receiver in 49ers history. jerry rice of course leads the way this season alone. he's the 49ers leading receiver in yardage and touchdowns. we chatted with him about the character of this team, even with the sluggish start to the season one, it reflects the core group of guys who have been here for a long time, which is fred bosa, myself, trent williams, deebo, you know, we have juice. we have this core group of guys who've been here for a while who strive ourselves on working har, playing at a very high level and trying to set the tone for the team. and i think we have great guys on the team too, which is really fun. like there's no one on the team that i'm like, i hate that person, which is awesome. and fortunately for me, that's not has not happened very much for me in my career. on my team. all these guys like each other. you said it hasn't happened in the past, but it's happening now. 49ers gelling right at the right time. this wasn't panic mode, but we were getting close there. they
9:20 pm
capitalized. they're going to the second half of the season, four and four tied right now with arizona and seattle. we have a lot more ahead in this post game show here on nbc. bay area. but we want to catch you up on today's local headlines. let's toss it back to gia and terry right now. well, i'll tell you, janelle and raj, there are some 49ers fans who are breathing. finally, after that game. good to see you both. we'll check back with you in just a little bit. terry. some of us were closer to panic mode than we want to admit. all right. great job. thank you to. all right. another big headline tonight. major change in the weather. you're looking live at one of our san francisco cameras, and it's about to get much colder in the city and in the rest of the bay area. meteorologist rob mayeda tracking the cool down. rob, what's coming our way? you might say it's a taste of some football weather around the bay area. we're about to see a big drop in those temperatures. and for tomorrow, another chance we could see a few scattered showers. first up, the chance of showers during the mid morning to early afternoon hours from 10 a.m. to about 3 p.m. tomorrow, and then the skies start to
9:21 pm
clear. and by this time tomorrow night, which will lead the way to that clearing, will be some dry north winds picking up. so this time tomorrow night, plan on more wind and a big drop in those temperatures. kind of a case of canadian air conditioning as that cooler, drier air sets in wind sheltered valleys. once we get into tuesday morning for the north bay, we're talking upper 30s. that is a big change from the weather we've had over the last couple of weeks. and on top of that, as we move forward closer to halloween, there is another chance of seeing some rain in the forecast. i'll give you the timeline on the cooldown and those rain chances ahead coming up in a few minutes sounds good. rob, thanks very much. keeping up with the weather has never been easier. scan the qr code on your screen that will take you right to the nbc bay area app. it is the only way to get your local weather your way from the people you know well. some are wondering if those bay area freeway express lanes are working and what happens when people cheat. okay, you've probably seen it yourself. someone cutting in and out of the lane to avoid paying the
9:22 pm
toll, or people claiming to have passengers when they really don't. investigative reporter hilda gutierrez went on the road to find out how often these violators are getting caught. we recently took you on an express lane ride along and found that express lanes are raking in millions of dollars more than initially projected, but a portion of that goes to enforcement since thousands of drivers are willing to cut corners for a faster ride. you may not see them, but they see you staking out freeways from the center divider or cruising along the highway. chp officers are checking for passengers in hov lanes the old fashioned way. two occupants in it. we'll see if this transponder reads two and it read three. let's go. hop into a little conversation. our cameras went along for a ride on
9:23 pm
101 with chp officer larock. officer larock says he averages 3 to 4 express lane stops per hour. where it is transponder says three. this day, three stops were for declaring the wrong number of occupants in the toll lane and one for speeding in the express lane. today we had a mix of i just dropped off my family member and didn't set the transponder to using the express lane as a fast lane to get home faster from a long shift overnight. in fact, during the past 12 months, chp has stopped thousands of drivers for express lane violations. the majority of tickets were for claiming to have more passengers than they really did, but many were also for crossing double white lines or unsafe lane changes into the express lane to cut down on or avoid paying the toll. during the past 12 months, chp reported some 2800 total lane stops on highway 101, 5100
9:24 pm
on 680, and nearly 11,000 on 880. there's somebody who just violated the double white line. so it's no surprise that during our 30 minute ride on 880 with mtc spokesman, we spotted at least three drivers entering or exiting the toll lane illegally. so when it's two lines separating lanes of traffic, treat those double lines as a wall. you can't cross it. the county agencies that operate the express lanes pay for additional chp overtime shifts to catch tolling cheaters. focused enforcement is going to be an officer not on shift, not responsible for answering other calls to go out and focus specifically on those violations. the shifts are all overtime, so the enforcement is not cheap. where does it come to per stop? we learned that every time chp makes contact with a potential violator, it costs
9:25 pm
$124. that's independent of issuing a ticket or not. the agencies that request the enhanced enforcement, like mtc and the san mateo county transit district, say they've previously tested other ways to catch violators. we tried camera systems that were offered by three different vendors, and they worked fairly well, but they were not flawless. they also say enforcement is about safety, not money. revenue from tickets goes to the courts. transit leaders say they're looking for the best deterrent. and in the last few quarters, we have seen the violations going down with more enforcement. 880 latest performance report shows chp spent more time stationed in observation areas than roaming the corridor, acting as deterrence that resulted in fewer citations, which, by the way, can range from 200 to $500 depending on the county and the type of violation. chp says their job goes beyond
9:26 pm
enforcement. it's about keeping everyone on the road, express lane rider or not safe. if you have people in an express lane, if traffic is stopped in regular lanes, if somebody jumps into that lane in front of a car doing 25 miles an hour, we're going to see a crash and unfortunately, we have seen a lot of those very bad crashes. you can ride on the express lane alone, but you have to pay full price, so make sure you set that transponder to the one position. mtc tells us that as technology improves, they're not giving up on the idea of camera based enforcement. instead of paying for additional chp hours with the investigative unit. i'm hilda gutierrez, san jose police are working to find out what led to a deadly overnight shooting downtown happened on south second street just before three this morning, right after many bars and clubs had let out. when officers arrived, they found a man on the ground in a parking lot, and he later died. so far, no arrests. this is the city's 26th homicide of the year. we

are now just nine days away from the election and polls are showing former president donald trump and vice president kamala harris are neck and neck. and that is both nationally and in key battleground states. so here's a look at the latest cnbc poll. it has trump ahead by two points nationwide. that's within the margin of error. similar polls by the wall street journal the new york times and cnn show a tight race. and here's what the polls show in the battleground states. as you can see, trump has a slight advantage in arizona, georgia and then also north carolina. while harris has a slight edge in michigan, pennsylvania and wisconsin. i just love this city of brotherly love. vice president kamala harris made a big push in philadelphia today. this rally came after she crisscrossed the city of brotherly love from a church to a barber shop to a puerto rican restaurant. this is harris's 14th trip to battleground pennsylvania, a state critical
9:28 pm
to her path to victory. so philly, we have nine days, nine days to get this done. and for the next nine days, no one can sit on the sidelines. there is too much on the line. and we must not wake up the day after the election and have any regrets about what we could have done in these next nine days. please welcome our next commander in chief. my husband, president donald j. trump. former president trump held a massive rally at madison square garden this evening. former first lady melania trump, as you saw right there, made a rare appearance to introduce her husband on stage as enthusiastic supporters gathered inside the iconic midtown manhattan arena. mr. trump is trying to lock and key voting blocs in the very blue state with your vote in this election. i will end

inflation. i will stop the invasion of criminals coming into our country, and i will bring back the american dream. we need the american dream. on monday, trump hits the campaign trail in battleground georgia. we're going back to levi's. here's another live look at the stadium. we caught up with e-40 on the sidelines. he's always got something to say. he had a lot to say about tonight's game and he talked about the upcoming election. plus, governor newsom looking to give california's film industry a multi-million dollar boost, how he plans to do it and how it could impact movie

janelle wang. i'm raj mathai. we've had fred warner on the program about 15 minutes ago. we had the rookie isaac lauren doyle, very happy players, but also you can just sense a lot of relief, a lot of pressure on this team. oh for sure. the first half, we were all nervous here at levi's stadium, but the niners really turned things around in the second half. they were really dominant going to that victory. now going to the second half of the season four and four 500. so you know it was such a celebration as soon as they won the game. what a relief to the fans and the players. kyle isaac the fullback leading the team off the field with this celebration. look at this. waving to fans, getting them all fired up with this victory. niners now at the top of their division with the cardinals and the seahawks. they have a bye week before they face tampa bay in tampa. we talked about how they won this game and the offense obviously stepped up big in the second half. but that first half was all about the defense. hello to nick bosa. impressive getting over dak prescott here. the sack there.
9:33 pm
this is early in the game. and then from nick bosa we also had a really one of the turning points in this game. in the third quarter. lenoir with the interception here that led to a george kittle touchdown. this was the turning point. the niners hold on to win 30 to 24. just a short while ago we heard from coach kyle shanahan in the locker room. take a listen. you know you always go into a season you expect to win them all. so you're not exactly where you want to be. but going into this game we knew this was a big win. you know we didn't want to be three and five going into the bye week. having your backs against the wall like that. getting that win was huge. being four and four not not at all. the record that we wanted when we set out. but when you look at our division and everything, phelan avenue a real good spot. and especially finishing it here with a win. hopefully we can take some time off and rest a little bit, get a couple guys back hopefully and come back and string some wins together here in the second half. all right kyle shanahan there at the
9:34 pm
podium in the locker room. he says when things don't go well he's not in a good mood on monday he'll be in a good mood tomorrow. that's for sure. joining us now from nbc bay area is our own dave feldman. dave, what a game. i mean, it's been a rocky first half of the season. different sides of the niners. but tonight the second half the niners we know and love such an explosive second half. and the great thing is that it started off like maybe we're going to have issues again. and this is going to be another lackluster performance. but there's something about playing the cowboys on sunday night week five last year george kittle erupted for three touchdowns. he has 126 yards today. and on a sunday night game against the cowboys, the tight end exploded and raj and gemmell. when kittle has a great game they normally come out on top. he's a good barometer. so this is a jekyll and hyde team against the jets. they look good against the seahawks. they look good against the cowboys. but then there's a lot of games in between. they don't. what's the real where's the real squad here. probably somewhere in the middle. i mean let's be honest. everyone's got injuries, so no one uses that as an excuse. but they have been
9:35 pm
really banged up. and to not have christian mccaffrey, who was arguably the best player last year in the leading rusher in the nfl. yeah jordan mason's been unbelievable. but they need mccaffrey back. maybe they get him back after the bye. so that will be good. dre greenlaw has been a big loss not having him defensively. so somewhere in the middle they're a very good team. the good news is raj everyone in this division is four and four except for the rams who were three and four. so they're still right in it. but probably not as good as everyone thought at the beginning of the season, but not as bad as everyone. gemmell panicking when they lost to the kansas city chiefs, who oh by the way, beat everybody. yeah. let's talk about the second half. a lot of a lot of good wins. possibly for the niners. some easy road games. yeah there are. i mean i don't think any game is super trap. there's no easy there's no easy wins. what are you talking about janelle. there's no way. there's i mean, tampa bay, they should be. yeah, certainly tampa bay lost today to the falcons. they should beat tampa bay. the good thing the late great danny green who we all know who did shows with us, always said you want to swing
9:36 pm
into the bye with a win win and swing out of the bye with a win. and they have a chance to do that. yeah. kyle shanahan wants to talk to both of you about easy wins. i didn't say that. janelle i did. i'm just asking what the matchup is like the rest of the season. okay. dave feldman, thank you so much. thanks, raj. of course you know who we saw today at the game tonight? yeah, one of our favorites, one of the biggest fans of the 49ers, e-40, vip. he's actually changed his seats. we had to track him down better. even better. look at that. right on the other side. front row hip hop legend e-40. it's so. he's so gracious. every time we see him. he's so friendly to all the fans. he just loves to be at the 49ers games, and it's just so nice to talk to him. we talked about his new seats, we talked about politics, we talked about everything. take a listen. don't speak about politics. if you're not going to vote, that's one. and it's all in the hands of god. i know who i'm voting for. many of you know who you're voting for. just vote who you're going to vote for and just try
9:37 pm
to do the right thing and think of and think about our kids in the future, our grandchildren and everybody else. that's all i say this this game means a lot. we'll we'll, we'll we'll get this w they're getting a lot of help from the officials right now. i know, i know that ain't cool to say but i really feel that way. you know, because i'm, i'm right here. i'm, i see everything, you know. but we'll win my new seats in the end zon. come on, man, these are the best seats in the house. i'm very grateful. front row, 40 floor seat. earl. yeah. what a field shot. field side. field side. side. what field side. front row 40 e 40. so gracious. thanks for talking to us. you had an interesting decision to go to the niners game tonight or the warriors game tonight. you had two choices. this was the big game. 49ers beat the cowboys 30 to 24. kind of resets the season for the 49ers. cowboys going in
9:38 pm
