"early today" starts right now. good morning. glad you're with me. i'm frances rivera. we're only eight days out from the 2024 presidential election. today, vice president harris will be campaigning across michigan, focused on jobs and manufacturing. former president trump will meet with faith leaders in georgia.

nbc's alice barr joins me now. good morning, alice. donald trump was here in new york city last night headlining an event at madison square garden. >> good morning, frances, that's right. about 20,000 trump supporters packed that arena in manhattan last night. the trump campaign billed this as their candidate's closing arguments. the crowd heard from a wide range of speakers from melania trump to elon musk to dr. phil. when mr. trump took the stage, he made some of his harshest comments yet about immigration, and he repeated his enemy from within rhetoric. >> it's just this amorphous group of people. but they're smart and they're vicious. and we have to defeat them. and when i say the enemy from within, the other side goes crazy. oh, how can he say -- no. they've done very bad things to this country. they are indeed the enemy from within. >> reporter: vice president kamala harris spent the day focused on philadelphia.

pennsylvania is critical to her path to victory, and this marked her 14th visit to the state. at a campaign stop, she asked reporters to imagine the oval office on january 20th. >> if it's donald trump, you can see what that day is going to be. it will be him sitting at that desk, doing over his enemy's list. he is full of grievance. he is full of dark language that is about retribution and revenge. and so the american people have a choice. it's either going to be that or it will be me there, focused on my to do list. >> reporter: the harris campaign says the vice president and her running mate will be visiting every battleground state over the next four days. she will be in michigan today, while former president trump will be in georgia, attending the national faith summit. frances? >> alice, thank you. one of the opening speakers at last night's rally is facing

backlash this morning as the trump campaign tries to win over more latino voters. comedian tony hinchcliffe made crude jokes about that community, and then he said this. >> i don't know if you guys know, this but there is literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. yeah. i think it's called puerto rico. >> puerto rico's governor condemned the comments, saying everyone who cheered this on should be ashamed of themselves. hinchcliffe made more than one racist crack at the rally, and the trump campaign responded by saying, quote, this joke does not reflect the views of mr. trump without specifying which one. hinchcliffe posted on social media that he made fun of everyone during that set, and that he loves puerto rico. israeli forces have withdrawn from a hospital in northern gaza after a deadly siege that lasted days. dozens were also killed in air strikes in the city of beit lahia. the eyewitness high commissioner for human rights, has called the offensive of, quote, one of the

darkest moments of the more than year-long war. the idf says they're targeting hamas militants. good morning, matt, what do we know about the hospital that was raided? >> frances, good morning. israeli forces stormed this hospital last week as part of their ongoing push into northern gaza. and this hospital is actually one of gaza's last functioning medical facilities. reports from the hospital suggest that idf troops heavily damaged the facility during their operation there. footage taken by an nbc news team from within the hospital gives us a picture of what happened there, equipment, blanket, medical supplies, even ceiling panels can be seen thrown across the facility. broken furniture as well. the idf says it was conducting an operation in the area against hamas militants. several buildings in the area were damaged by idf air strikes. medical personnel at the hospital say that more than half of the medical staff was detained by the idf. this comes as efforts to revive ceasefire talks renewed in qatar over the weekend with a new

proposal put forward by egyptian mediators. the proposal would see a temporary ceasefire of at least two days in exchange for the release of four more israeli hostages and the return of several palestinian prisoners in kind. but what is still unclear is whether or not hamas is ready to engage with the ceasefire efforts. the group has yet to directly comment on the egyptian proposal. meanwhile, in israel itself, one person was killed on sunday and dozens more injured after a truck ran into a bus stop in tel aviv. local police say they believe this was a terrorist attack. the assailant was shot dead on the scene and is a palestinian citizen of israel. back to you, frances. >> matt, thank you. now to a shocking moment caught on camera and obtained by our nbc affiliate. davis natori was outside of his minneapolis home when a bullet was fired from his window. he says the neighbor and his wife has been a nightmare since

they moved in. he called police 19 times before the shooting for incidents including harassment, hate speech and verbal threats and that suffers from mental illness. the suspect is not in jail, despite being charged with attempted murder. police allowing him to stay home because they say he is a threat to himself and others. it's a decision natori does not agree with and one that is sparking outrage. >> if you're saying your scared, what does that do to me, you know? you have body armor. you have special training. >> police say the department has not set an arrest date. mcdonald's says they plan to resume distribution of their quarter pound their week after no e. coli was detected in their beef patties on sunday. the department -- the colorado department of agriculture said it tested dozens of samples of the beef from several colorado mcdonald's locations associated with the outbreak.

all of them tested negative for e. coli. the fda and the cdc has zeroed in on slivered onions as the likely source of contamination. mcdonald's has since removed their onion supplier, taylor farms, from its supply chain. delta airlines has filed a lawsuit against global cyber security company crowdstrike after an outage in july brought down millions of computers and prompted 7,000 flight cancellations. the atlanta-based airlines says the incident reduced revenue by $380 million and brought $170 million in costs. delta is seeking damages to cover its losses, along with litigation costs and punitive damages. it is a frosty start to the week across the midatlantic. nbc meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking those temperatures for us. good morning. good morning, frances. you need your coat this morning because we are looking at temperatures just above the freezing mark in some spots. we're even waking up to some frost advisories. also some freeze warnings. that's where you're seeing that

pink color. so philadelphia, d.c. roanoke you have a frost advisory. 23 million people under freeze alerts this morning. this is why we're looking at temperatures into the 30s and 40s this morning. just above the freezing mark in baltimore and ocean city. chilly in morgantown, charleston, blacksburg in the 30s. 45 in buffalo and 41 in syracuse. a chilly start there. big difference in the middle of the country. we're going to feel summer-like once again today. tomorrow, we're going to keep the warmth in place. we're going keep the temperatures into the 80s, 90s in some spots. 83 in kansas city. we're going to be chasing some records as well. el paso today 90 degrees. albuquerque, 82. as we look towards tuesday, that jet stream still far to the north. that's allowing the warm air in. looking attemperatures into the 80s in st. louis summer once again

those who haven't yet decided. nbc news has been speaking to several undecided voters in key swing states throughout the campaign. and our dasha burns checked back in with them to see if they'd made up their minds. here's what she found. >> who are you voting for? >> reporter: they're the most coveted voters in america. >> i'm still deciding. >> reporter: undecided voters across the seven battleground states. nbc news has been interviewing them throughout the campaign. >> i'm still kind of undecided. >> reporter: but now with days left to go, do you feel like you've learned enough? we're following up. have they made their decision? >> it's an important factor. >> reporter: kate snow spoke to lynn kelleher back in september after the trump-harris debate. her thoughts then -- >> i'm not happy with either candidate. >> reporter: we spoke to lynn again. she is weighing pocketbook issues and her conscience. she still considers herself undecided, but -- >> if you had to make a decision

right this moment, with what you know right now, what do you do? >> i'd have to vote for kamala. while i think that she's misguided, as is her party, i don't think she is an awful human being. and i think that donald is. >> reporter: hannah reed told us after the debate that vice president harris still had to win her vote. >> she has a lot of questions she needs to answer. >> reporter: hannah also remains undecided but is leaning toward vice president harris. >> policy wise, i would vote for kamala. >> reporter: some of the undecided voters we spoke to earlier this election didn't want to share where they stand now. others didn't respond to our request for an interview. this is what denise lewis of arizona told jacob soboroff after the debate. >> it seemed like a connection was formed that wasn't there before. >> reporter: now she is leaning towards harris but still uncertain. why are you still undecided?

>> because i'm not hearing what i need to hear. it might even come down to a coin toss. a mental coin toss. >> reporter: tufts university professor brian schaffner says traditional i will only about half of undecideds will vote. and in last two elections, they've broken for trump. >> it seems what was happening in both those races is you have a lot of republicans who are pretty reluctant to vote for trump and therefore were pretty noncommittal up until the last minute. >> reporter: back in september, pennsylvania restaurant owner andrew wallace appeared to be swayed a little. you told me you're about 51% trump, 49% harris right now after the debate tonight. >> yeah. >> reporter: moved a tiny bit for you. but now -- >> i'm between going to the ballot box and choosing the day of or sitting home. it's hard for me to sit out, but i don't like either candidate. >> reporter: a choice for many isn't just between two candidates, but between voting or staying home. dasha burns, nbc news. >> it's going to be a crucial week. still to come, whiles from

here's what's making headlines this morning. california governor gavin newsom is proposing to more than double the state's film tax incentive program boosting it to 750 million. it would be the largest offered by any state except georgia, which has no cap on credit. california officials have faced mounting pressure to help hollywood as it struggles to rebound in the wake of last year's writer and actor strike as well as the pandemic. if approved, it could take effect as soon as next july. american airlines inaugural nonstop flight from dallas to bri brisbane, australia landed sunday, making it the longest flight by distance for the airline. the flight to brisbane took 15 hours and 44 minutes. it will run five flights per week in each direct and will increase daily flights from december through the end of march. on sunday, miami heat legend dwyane wade was honored with a new statue of himself. he is the first heat player to
