the 2024 presidential election. today vice president harris will be campaigning across michigan focused on jobs and manufacturing, while former president trump will meet with faith leaders in georgia. nbc'salice barr joins me now. good morning, alice. donald trump was here in new york last night headlining the event at madison square garden. >> good morning, frances. that's right, about 20,000 trump supporters packed the iconic arena in manhattan last night. the trump campaign billed this as their candidate's closing arguments. the crowd heard from a wide range of speakers from melania trump to elon musk to dr. phil. when the former president took the stage he made his harshest comments about immigration and repeated his enemy from within. >> it's this amorphous group of people but they're smart and they're vicious and we have to defeat them and when i say the enemy from within, the other side goes crazy, oh, how can he

say -- they've done very bad things to this country. they are indeed the enemy from within. >> vice president kamala harris spent the day focused on philadelphia. pennsylvania is critical to her path to victory and this marked her 14th visit to the state. at a campaign stop she asked reporters to imagine the oval office on january 20th. >> if it's donald trump, you can see what's -- what that day is going to be. it will be him sitting at that desk stewing over his enemies list. he is full of grievance. he is full of dark language that is about retribution and revenge. and so the american people have a choice, it's either going to be that or it will be me there, focused on my to-do list. >> the harris campaign says the vice president and her running mate will visit every battleground state over the next four days. she will be in michigan today.

while former president trump will be in georgia attending the national faith summit. frances. >> alice, thank you. one of the opening speakers at last night's rally is facing backlash as the trump campaign tries to win over more latino voters comedian tony hinchcliffe made crude comments about that community and then he said this. >> i don't know if you guys know this, but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. yeah. i think it's called puerto rico. >> puerto rico's governor condemned the comments, saying everyone who cheered this on should be ashamed of themselves. hinchcliffe made more than one racist crack at the rally and the trump campaign responded by saying this joke does not reflect the views of mr. trump without specifying which one. hinchcliffe posted on social media that he made fun of everyone during his set and that he loves puerto rico. israeli forces have withdrawn from a hospital in northern gaza after a deadly

siege that lasted days. dozens were also being killed in air strikes in the city of bait lahia. it is called one of the darkest moments of the more than year long war. the idf says they are targeting hamas militants. for the latest let's go to matt bodner. what do we know about the hospital that was raided? >> reporter: israeli forces stormed this hospital last week as part of their ongoing push into northern gaza and it's actually one of the last remaining functional medical facilities in the area. reports from the hospital suggest that idf troops heavily damaged the facility during their operation there. footage taken by an nbc news team from within the hospital gives us a picture of what happened. you can see equipment, blankets, medical supplies, ceiling panels thrown about the facility. there's also broken furniture. the idf says it was conducting an operation in the area against hamas militants. several buildings were damaged by idf air strikes. medical personnel at the

hospital say that more than half of the medical staff was detained by the idf. this all comes as efforts to revise ceasefire talks renewed in qatar over the weekend with a new proposal put forward by egyptian mediators. it would see a temporary ceasefire of two days in the exchange for release of four more israeli hostages and the return of palestinian prisoners in kind. what is unclear is whether or not hamas is ready to engage in ceasefire efforts. they are yet to comment on the egyptian proposal. in israel one person was killed on sunday and dozens more injured after a truck ran into a bus stop in tel aviv. local police say they believe this was a terrorist attack. the assailant was shot dead on the scene and is a palestinian citizen of israel. back to you, frances. >> matt, thank you. growing outrage after a minneapolis man was allegedly shot by his neighbor while doing yard work. the incident even caught on camera. the suspect charged

with attempted murder but has not yet been arrested. nbc's dana griffin has more. >> reporter: this was a shocking moment caught on cam ration video obtained by our nbc affiliate shows david trimming a tree outside his minneapolis home wednesday but according to court documents a bullet was fired from his neighbor's upstairs window. >> the bullet went down through my neck and then all the way back to my spine. >> reporter: he told nbc affiliate care 11 he is also recovering from broken ribs and a concussion, adding the last 11 months since he and his wife moved in they've been living a nightmare next door to john shawshack. the victim called police for harassment, hate speech and verbal threats. also saw shawshake suffers from mental. he has been charged with attempted murder but he is not in jail. police allowing him to stay in his home because they say he is

a threat to himself and others. >> the likelihood of an armed confrontation where we may have to use deadly force with the suspect is high. >> reporter: that excuse sparking community outrage. >> we have to take violent criminals off the street. so i'm not a police officer, i don't know how that gets done, but i know it needs to get done. >> reporter: police say he rarely leaves his hospital and the department has not set an arrest date. >> we are not going to bust the door down, gunz blazing and get into a deadly source situation but we will ensure the community will be safe. >> reporter: matorri says he feels the minneapolis police department failed to protect his family by not arresting his neighbor when they need it the most. >> if you are saying you're scared what does that do to me? you have body armor, you have professional training -- >> reporter: dana griffin, nbc news. fire crews have been battling a large brush fire in a wooded area of salem,

massachusetts, since the weekend. no evacuation orders have been announced but fire officials say it will take some time to extinguish the flames. this as massachusetts is under a red flag warning for high fire danger due to drought conditions. it comes as thousands of visitors are expected to flock to salem for halloween festivities this week. and it is a colder start to the week for much of the country. nbc meteorologist michelle grossman is here with your forecast. good morning, michelle. >> we're waking up to chilly weather in parts of the mid-atlantic and northeast as well into the ohio valley. 23 million under freeze alerts, freeze warnings in the hot pink color, in the pink color frost advisory for roanoke, d.c. into the freeze warning. temperatures just before freezing in some spots. baltimore at 34, ocean city 33, 30s for morgantown, charleston, blacksburg and cold, too, in syracuse and buffalo, temperatures in the 40s. a chilly start. big difference in the middle of the country, we are tracking really warm air, summerlike

e.coli. mcdonald's has since removed their onion supplier taylor farms from its supply chain. the chain plans to bring back the quarter pound tore affected locations this week. boeing may be looking to jettison into space visits according to a new report but first crowdstrike is facing a massive lawsuit this morning for in summer's global i.t. outage. charlotte reed is here with the latest on that. good morning, charlotte. >> good morning, frances. indeed delta is suing crowdstrike. security software company involved in the global i.t. outage that brought down millions of computers back in july. delta airlines is accusing crowdstrike of breach of contract and negligence that the outage prompted the cancellation of 7,000 flights and delta took longer than other airlines to recover from the outage. now, the airline is seeking

compensation saying the incident reduced revenue by almost $400 million and brought $170 million extra costs. crowdstrike said delta's claim it is trying to shift away from their i.t. infrastructure. boeing session plorg the sale of some parts of its space business according to "wall street journal" citing people familiar with the matter. the assessment is aid to be only in its early stages but the product is a troubled starliner unit which supports the international space station. the sale would not include the nasa space launch system. boeing declined to comment on the report but the potential is it part of the new ceo's strategy to simple buy boeing's portfolio and focus on the core business of commercial aircraft
