bosa. bosa crashed an interview with nbc sideline reporter and his teammates brock purdy, george kittle and isaac galindo. he pointed to a white hat that said, make america great again before quickly backing away. boso was asked about that political statement he made during his post-game interview. some discussion you had had on that was not the hat you're currently wearing in the post game. why did you take that opportunity to make what would appear to be a political statement? i'm not going to talk too much about it, but i think it's an important time. both in the past has been vocal on social media about his support for former president trump. 607 right now. talk a little basketball three games into the season, and the warriors appear to be facing their first challenge. it looks like they may be without their star steph curry for a while today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco this morning. and ginger certainly a tough one here. steph limping off the court there. definitely
6:08 am
hard to watch. good morning marcus and laura. hard to see steph limping off the court, especially if it happens twice in one game. of course it doesn't feel good to take home the l in a home opener either. but win or lose, steph's health matters most and you can see curry walking off the court with just under eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. that is when he left for good. now that came after the second time he seemed to turn his ankle and the first came in the third quarter when he rolled it and then made his way to the bench. he came back in the game but stayed just 13 seconds before tweaking it again. he is expected to get an mri today. the warriors lost to the la clippers 112 to 104. i'm hoping crossing my fingers. it's not too bad. yeah yeah yeah it was like i think it cost us the game. we probably would have won for sure because it was only

creek. kari got a look at our forecast. better pay attention. some change in the works. yeah, just about every day we're going to see something different happening across the bay area. today we're starting out dry, but there will be a chance of some spotty rain and then going into this evening, it turns windy and colder. later tonight, we'll also have more of these chilly mornings and then rain chances returning wednesday night into thursday. right now, as you're heading out in fremont, it's 54 degrees and partly cloudy, a light wind, but as we go throughout the day, partly cloudy and really not much warmer will only make it into the mid 60s for today and some of our warmer spots in the inland east bay will be in the upper 60s. so we'll talk more about those changes ahead. coming up, mike has a look at where we can find some lower gas prices. yeah. you brought the changes. i didn't bring much change. we like that. it's good we have our low which is held through the weekend in livermore, still leads our list with 379. that's at dimond gas and mart on south front road.

over the weekend, podcaster joe rogan released that interview with donald trump, where trump once again said he would consider getting rid of the income tax. now, he can't do that without congress. trump says. he would replace all government taxes with tariffs instead. now remember, tariffs are paid by americans. the washington post over the weekend reported that it found evidence that shows elon musk was working illegally in the united states after he emigrated here from south africa. musk denies he was here illegally. president biden addressed the issue during a campaign stop for harris in pennsylvania. he was supposed to be in school when he came on a student visa. he went to school. he was violating the law, and he's talking about all these illegals coming our way. oh, elon musk appeared at donald trump's madison square garden rally on sunday, once again
6:18 am
calling himself dark maga. trump has asked musk to lead a department of government efficiency, cutting government spending. last night, musk said he could cut as much as 2 trillion from the federal discretionary budget that is a staggeringly big number. and so just to give you an idea, i threw together a couple of departments. i'm not saying musk would cut these departments, but if you did cut the department of agriculture, the faa, the entire faa, the fbi, and i mean lay off everyone, shut down the lights, the whole thing. the department of forestry, securities and exchange commission, if you put all of that together, be about 256 billion. so you're about one eighth of you have to go much, much, much bigger. trying to illustrate how how big that much money is. it just it can't be done. all right. thanks, scott. you bet. 618 right now, the outpouring of support for a beloved restaurant hit three times by thieves. fans of el faro in san francisco's mission district held a pop up event

6:20 am
those fans went wild, of course, when shalom himself crashed the event. police even had to break things up there because, you know what? they didn't have a permit to actually hold that competition. nonetheless, a winner was crowned there and they won. get this $50. woo! yeah, but you don't really have to dress up or anything. doesn't cost you any money. just show up. you know, you look like him. you look like him. there you go. i'd like to see the winner. yeah. yeah. kari. you look like yourself. $50. here you go. all right. thank you. i'm going to be dressing up like someone else this week. ooh, halloween is coming up. yes. you know, we'll do a big reveal, though, but i'm sure we're all going to be watching the weather closely, too, because it's getting cooler and we are even watching out for a chance of rain. we'll talk about the timeline of that. let's get you out the door with a look at what to expect on your way to work. it's 57, in san mateo and in san jose, 54 in walnut creek. now, going into the next several hours, we will
6:21 am
be watching this. a slight chance of rain coming in from the north. so it's approaching in parts of the north bay with some spotty showers, mainly near the coast and the north bay will be the highest possibility of seeing at least a little bit of wet weather today. we're going to see a high of 66 in napa, 60 in san francisco and 64 in dublin. so a lot of these temperatures are about ten degrees lower than it was yesterday. so it will be cooler for this afternoon and the next several days with not much of a warmup here. upper 60s and a few low 70s. but overall it's going to be much below normal and then going into the middle of the week. the next weather system coming in also will bring in some spotty showers, but once again, it's the north bay on target for at least measuring a little bit of rain here, with the possibility of seeing that rain developing between wednesday night and early thursday morning. and don't worry, it's out of here in time to go trick or treating thursday night. so looking at how much rain we may measure here, if you
6:22 am
do see any. it will be a few hundredths of an inch of rain. the north bay may possibly see about a 10th of an inch of rain, and if you're like me, you're like, wait a minute. what happened to fall? well, we are going to have a winter like week and temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s next week. it's looking a little bit warmer in napa with upper 60s, but yeah, that's still cooler than normal. we will have more of that extending through the forecast with a few cold fronts coming through. slight rain chances, not expecting any big storms coming in, and san francisco will see those rain chances as well. clearing out in time for trick or treating thursday night. but we'll also have to watch saturday for more light showers. mike, how's it looking on the san mateo bridge? we had the report. we took a look with the live shot of eastbound 92. what? looked like it must have been a traffic break from the wall of headlights. i saw it was clearing, but we don't have any slowing on the sensors either direction, in fact. so that's great. there is the build on 880, and we expect that to feed
6:23 am
in off of onto westbound 92. we do have a little extra slowing for the south bay. 87 was showing some slower sensors cleared up now 101 now showing that second burst a little bit earlier than we typically see through the area. we'll track that. there's also the crash we're tracking one lane blocked southbound at 8680 toward 84. back to you. thank you mike. protecting your money. just ahead on today in the bay. the warning about new scams targeting bank accounts and the steps you can take to protect your information. we'll be right back.

has doubled in the last few years, even though fewer of us are using checks. according to the american bankers association. thieves are reusing checks stolen from mailboxes and post office boxes, sometimes by just photocopying and photoshopping them. they've got new technology that allows them to wash those checks, you know, change the writing on them or they simply copy them, they photoshop them and they can print out what look exactly like a real check that matches. exactly. and they cash those for money. paul benda, you heard him there from the american bankers association, says his number one tip is don't use checks at all. rather, use bill pay or mobile apps or peer to peer payments which are more secure. if you have to write a check, use

indelible ink, which can't be washed, and make sure to track all the checks that you send. the american bankers association also warning of phishing scams through a series of videos you can watch at banks. never askart.com don't open links you aren't expecting, and don't be pressured into sharing. login info, passwords or pins. good advice. there. thanks, laura. all right, we've got a lot more ahead for you at 630 this morning, including governor newsom set to make an announcement on a crime crackdown. plus, overnight burglary attempt in san francisco. a look at the aftermath this morning as police begin to investigate. plus, i'm kris sanchez in san jose. from those stories about crime to a story about making the community safer. we now know that the first the next police chief is starting his first day on the job today. and later, an emotional conversation with matthew perry's family. one year after the beloved star's death.
6:28 am
what they're now revealing about his final days. keep it right here. you're watching today in the bay. san francisco is in crisis and we need real experienced leadership. we need mark farrell. our interim mayor who got things done. who showed we can clear tent encampments, fight crime, and address the drug crisis. who will make the tough choices for our city's future. "i'm mark farrell. i'm running for mayor because san francisco deserves better." "i'm ready to deliver that change on day one." mark farrell. a proven leader with the experience we need.

get the department where it is today, i think there's we've done some great work and there's much more to be done. hey, san jose police veteran officially starts his first day as the city's chief. but laying down what paul josephs vision is as he takes the reins of bay area's largest city. and we are just eight days away from the presidential election and the race is tighter than ever. this is today in the bay. at 630 on your monday morning. thanks for starting your day with us. hope you had a great weekend. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. let's get a look at that forecast for you this morning. meteorologist kari hall lets us know what we can feel as we step outside this morning. jacket needed for sure. yeah, a little chill in the air, but the next few mornings will be even colder. so we're starting out with a clear sky and watching some clouds approach from the north, as there will be a slight chance of rain, mainly in the north bay today, but it will be
6:32 am
windy as we go into this evening as the colder temperatures start to arrive. and we are also looking at that possibility of more rain for the middle of the week, coming in wednesday night into thursday. as we take a look at the system, we are not seeing a lot of rain, but there is a little bit of some wet weather moving through far northern california. so far the bay area is dry, but we will see the possibility of at least a little bit of rain here and there. overall clearing out today and then the winds picking up. so we'll talk about all of the changes that we'll see throughout the week coming up in the full microclimate forecast. all right. thanks, gary. we are moving you forward this morning with a new chapter for san jose's police department, a new permanent chief officially taking over today. and he certainly familiar with the job today in the bay's kris sanchez is live for us this morning over at police headquarters. and kris already laying out some goals of his right. oh, absolutely. paul joseph has plans for this department. you know, paul joseph has been doing the
6:33 am
interim job for seven months now, and he's been with the department for 30 years. so he has a pretty good idea of what needs to happen. chief joseph went from assistant chief to interim chief when former chief anthony mata retired back in march. in his 30 years with the sapd, he's been a captain over the western patrol division. he's been a lieutenant with the homicide, the robbery and the patrol divisions. and now he will lead the department of nearly 1200 sworn officers and nearly 600 professional employees in his tenure. he has taken on the cause of transparency. after several officers were accused of misconduct. eaton. when we make mistakes, when we don't meet the expectations of the community, i will be open and honest about that as well. if someone isn't doing the job in the way that they're supposed to, if someone shouldn't be here in the first place, they're not going to be here. so let's just do it. the chief told us he will push on three fronts maximizing technology, freeing up officers
6:34 am
by shifting some responsibilities to other staff and using non-police response when warranted. we're talking about things like calling in those mental health crisis units that we've seen in our county. the chief has a law degree from the university of california school of law in san francisco, and his undergraduate degree is in political science. but again, a face that will be very familiar to the men and women in his department in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay, a new era begins with san jose police department. kris thank you. 633 new overnight thieves attempt to break into the louis vuitton store in san francisco. as you can see, the suspects rammed a car into the two front doors of the store along geary, near stockton. officers, tell our photographer on the scene the suspects ran away as they arrived. no arrests were made. the storefront was damaged, but it's not clear if the suspects got away with any items. we've reached out to police for more information in just a few hours. governor gavin newsom will host

night at the niners game against the cowboys at levi's. representatives for dallas team says that a vehicle carrying jerry jones's family was reportedly hit by a rising barricade near the stadium's entrance. the cowboys medical team evaluated jones's son, jerry junior, and his daughter charlotte on site. jones's grandson was also in that vehicle at the time. all are said to be okay. it's not clear what led up to that incident. the niners, meanwhile, suddenly appear to be back on track. last night here on nbc bay area, they rebounded quite nicely against the cowboys, led by brock purdy and george kittle. if you didn't hear, yesterday was national tight ends day in the actual creator of the day, the niners george kittle, played a key role. so did the defense with a big interception in the second half. kittle had a personal season high in receiving yards. he also scored a third quarter touchdown to make it 20 to 10. niners led by 17 to start the

fourth quarter, at which point the cowboys rallied but came up just short with the niners winning it 30 to 24. the niners hit the bye week at four, and for two sundays from now, they'll travel to tampa to take on the buccaneers. all right, well, let's take a live look outside this morning in dublin. sun's trying to peek through this morning for that sunrise. meteorologist kari hall has a look at what we can expect. hopefully when the sun rises we're going to get a little bit warmer out there. yeah. but that's just a reminder that these days are getting so short we don't even see the sunrise throughout the show. and so we're going to start out this morning with a few clouds here and there. but we'll also be watching out for a slight chance of rain in oakland. it's in the upper 50s and right around 11 to 12:00. there is that chance that we could see at least a little bit of wet weather. the rest of the day is dry, but you'll notice that it will be cooler, much cooler than it was yesterday and will be very chilly tonight as the wind picks up. but we're looking at highs in the low to mid 60s for this
6:41 am

napa and 58 in oakland. it is 4054 degrees in san francisco and 57 in san jose. but there is another system coming in behind the cold front that brought us the cooler weather yesterday. now we're seeing a little bit of some light rain coming in behind that system that as of now, really hasn't brought much rain. but we will still have that chance as we see a mix of sun and clouds. today. our temperatures headed for the mid to upper 60s. cupertino today 6466 in morgan hill and 65 in walnut creek. so these temperatures even cooler than yesterday. you add in the wind, it's going to feel very chilly with san mateo's high up to 58 degrees and some upper 50s low 60s for san francisco. and in the north bay, 66 for novato and 62 in clear lake going toward the middle of the week. this next rainmaker comes in, and once again, the north bay is
6:51 am
really the one of the few spots where we could see some measurable rain. but overall, we are going to see some waves of some spotty showers coming in wednesday in the late night into early thursday morning is when we will see those rain chances, and then looking at how much rain we may see on wednesday into thursday. it's not a lot, but we could see up to a 10th of an inch of rain for parts of the north bay south of the golden gate, a few hundredths of an inch of rain. and if you're like me, you're like, what happened to fall? we went straight to winter with temperatures in the 60s all week. take a look at napa and thursday. it's only 59 for the high temperature, but then looking ahead to next week it's a little bit milder. will at least make it up to 70 on monday. so overall, our 7-day forecast shows slight rain chances. no big storms here, but it will be windy this evening and cooler for the next few mornings with highs in the mid to upper 60s. and san francisco is going to be even cooler here. we'll stay in the 50s throughout
