with controversial comments. the way president trump is responding and the backlash he's facing following his madison square garden rally earlier this week. plus, the man accused of killing tech executive bob lee is back in court. the next steps in the murder trial. this is today in the bay. good morning to you on this wednesday. i'm marcus washington. and i'm laura garcia. we'll check that morning commute with mike, see if things are picking up. but first, a look at the forecast right now with meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect another cool morning. and we have such nice weather yesterday. it continues today. but then we'll start to see some clouds coming in. we're getting ready for some rain ahead. look at how chilly it is right now, mainly in the north bay. we're seeing upper 30s as you're heading out. it is 38 degrees in santa rosa. it is 52 in san francisco, and we're seeing a lot of 40s for the inland east bay as well as the south bay. we
5:02 am
are going to see clouds moving in out ahead of this system. that will bring in some rain late tonight. so far it's some light rain up around ukiah and we'll see that eventually making it into the rest of the bay area. now, mike, you've been watching some folks working this morning. yeah, just like over in the traffic and weather center. i watched you work, and i then realized i have to get my report together over here. we're looking at the folks who just cleared from their work on the golden gate bridge. i was watching them clear the sensors still show a little bit of slowing as the last of those vehicles have to clear from the north bay to the bridge, a smooth drive throughout much of the rest of the bay. we do have another crash that's near the clayton onramp there. it's not closing the onramp that's still open access on the freeway is no problem. 242 southbound is still at the speed limit. a nice easy drive through the rest of contra costa county and in fact, the rest of the bay just mild slowing out of the altamont pass. back to you. thanks, mike. turning now to decision 2024. and there's officially six days to go until election day. vice

president kamala harris delivered a message to tens of thousands of people at the same time, same place where former president trump rallied supporters before the january 6th insurrection on the capitol. meantime, former president trump himself, count courted latino voters in pennsylvania today in the bay's alice barr joining us live in washington this morning. and alice, the former president, is still facing some of the backlash after the vulgar comments made by speakers at his rally in madison square garden earlier this week. marcus and laura. yeah, the fallout continues from that, particularly because of concerns about how it could impact the latino vote. so that's one wrinkle. overnight, vice president harris spoke near the white house before some 60,000 people, according to a federal law enforcement official. she paired her economic message with attacks on former president trump as he was rallying in pennsylvania and responding to some new comments from president biden. and i did this work in
5:04 am
the final days of the presidential campaign. dueling speeches. former president trump rallying supporters in pennsylvania. i'll protect our jobs. i will protect our borders. i will protect our families. as vice president, harris delivered her closing argument. i pledge to seek common ground and common sense solutions. speaking from the same spot where former president trump rallied supporters before the january 6th capitol attack, she warned a second trump term would bring more serious consequences. this is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance and out for unchecked power. the former president, meanwhile, seized on comments from president biden, talking by zoom with a latino group about a comedian's racist joke at the trump madison square garden rally sunday, calling puerto rico a floating island of
5:05 am
garbage. the only garbage i see floating out there is his supporters. remember hillary? she said. deplorable. that didn't work out garbage. i think is worse, right? president biden later clarifying that he was referring to the, quote, hateful rhetoric about puerto rico spewed by trump supporter at his madison square garden rally. the trump campaign says the comedian's comments don't reflect mr. trump's views. probably he shouldn't have been there. yeah, all as vice president, harris seeks to cast herself as a unifier, arguing that former president trump calls those who disagree with him the enemy. while i'll give them a seat at the table, contrasting visions in a race down to the wire. vice president harris also laid out her policy priorities in that speech. from making groceries, housing and childcare more affordable to restoring reproductive rights. tonight, both nominees have big events in wisconsin, with packers legend brett favre set to join former president trump in green bay. marcus. all right.

busy. busy time. alex bowen. washington. alex. thank you. and a reminder we are helping you get informed with our local races as well. just scan that qr code there on your screen. it's going to take you to our full voter guide with info on all the key races. it is 505 and the high profile murder trial of nima momeni is set to resume in just a few hours. zenni is accused of killing cash app founder bob lee today in the bay's ginger conejero. saab joins us live in san francisco this morning with more. she's been following this case for us last week, ginger. we certainly saw a lot of tensions just boiling over. and we are only on the third witness for the prosecution. so far, laura. and it just so happens to be possibly the key witness in this case, césar mamani, the sister of the accused, is expected back in court for her fifth day of testimony today, the last day she took the stand, much of the questioning centered around her drug use and lack of sleep. in
5:07 am
the days leading up to the day, bob lee was fatally stabbed. we spoke with legal analyst steven clark last week. he says he's been following this case, and he says casa's testimony at times has hurt both sides of this case will be difficult for this jury to unpack. casa's testimony because it's not likely that they'll pick and choose what they want to believe. they may disregard the entire testimony, and that's something the prosecutors may argue later. and prosecutors pushed casar, saying she seemed to recall more details in questioning by the defense. now, the defense argue, they provided specific texts and phone records with the timestamps to refresh casa's memory. the defense has claimed that nima momeni had killed the cashapp founder in self-defense. after lee pulled a knife in a drug fueled haze. prosecutors, however, argue jiménez's motive for killing lee was related to something that happened to his sister. now testimony got tense,
5:08 am
even combative. last week it spilled over outside the courtroom where bob lee's former wife could not contain her emotions, noting that it was her former husband who is the victim and you heard krista lee there quite a bit. she was upset by the testimony from casa, saying that she saying that lee's family attempted to intimidate her through texts after lee's death. now, this has all happened with some of the court's own chaos as a backdrop. there was a one day strike on thursday that set back the trial, just one of the many cases that were recessed for that day. and then friday is off on this trial. monday and tuesday were previously off already since the beginning of this case, which really leads us to today, laura. court starts at 930 in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay, picking up where they left off. ginger, thanks for the latest. police in gilroy. they need your
5:09 am
help this morning. they are looking for this man. take a look at your screen. investigators believe that he was filming inside the stalls of a women's bathroom at a target store on camino arroyo. officers say there is at least one victim, but there could be more. if you recognize the man in that video, please contact police. it is 508 on your wednesday morning. take a nice look outside. you see the bay bridge sitting there. nice morning, but certainly a colder start. kari has got a look at our forecast. yeah, we are starting out with jacket weather again. even a little bit cooler than it was just yesterday morning. and in san jose we have a clear start. a few clouds will start to move in and temperatures will dip back into the 40s. as we approach sunrise into the rest of the day, there will be a mix of sun and clouds, and in the upper 50s at 10:00 at lunchtime, we're only at 63 degrees, so i'd still have on those long sleeves or a jacket. as our highs today reach into the mid to upper 60s.
5:10 am
all of these numbers are well below what's normal for this time of year, and we are also going to see more clouds coming in. and tomorrow there is not much of a change as we continue with the nice cool weather, but also going to see a little bit of rain in the mix. so we'll talk about the timeline of that as you make your halloween plans. that's coming up. mike has a look at where we can find slightly more of a better deal for gas. we'll start with the same lowest number as yesterday. but yeah, there is a second shop now, clayton gas and wash on clayton road in concord. i know it's a little confusing with the namings, but that's the official city. another change for a pre rain. another chance for a pre rain wash is at cupertino car wash on north deanza boulevard, where gas is 3.95 and a quick check in san francisco is the bottom number. 419 is the best at double time and 711 on mission street. wouldn't that do? would be better if it's double time and quick stop, i don't know, i'm not marketing. we're over here at gasbuddy.com
5:11 am
is where you can get that information or give those reports if it's inaccurate. meanwhile, the roadways accurate sensor reads show green around most of the bay. we are looking at the upper east shore freeway. no delays right now coming off the carquinez bridge, even highway 37, we'll start to see the slowing in just a couple of minutes out of vallejo right no, westbound across the bay bridge, your commute into the city easy breezy. back to you. lemon squeezy. 510 right now. more help is on the way for people trying to make it in the bay. just ahead the affordable housing complex set to open today, and the number of families it's already assisting. meantime, elon musk warns of tougher times ahead if he's put in charge of the federal budget. and bart getting into the halloween spirit. and they want you to join in on all the fun. the new bart anime swag that you can get if you dress up tonigh keep itt.

low's already under investigation for running a corrupt scheme to give political access to big money donors. but when it comes to fighting for us... low's missed nearly 1,000 votes... from affordable housing to climate change. evan low only serves himself. at santa rosa and what to expect. we are down to 38 degrees right now and it is mostly clear, but we will see more clouds coming in through late morning, maybe even some mist and drizzle. and then as we go throughout the day becoming mostly sunny. but it will be on the cool side and then rain tonight we're tracking another system coming in. we'll talk about what to expect coming up in a few minutes and a live look. you can expect speed limit right here past the coliseum and the 66th avenue overcrossing right there in the middle,

northbound, with the tail lights all the way to the bay bridge. no backup there. no problems. we'll watch as the east bay should show those first signs. actually, the north bay has a spot. i'm watching. we'll see how those senses are coming up. well good morning. very happy thursday to you. or wednesday rather. a lot of numbers this week from consumer confidence. it's up to the jobs number. we get that friday. meta and microsoft report profits today. south san francisco's visa says it's going to lay off 1000 people yet hire two, ending up with roughly the same number of employees. the social network reddit says it turned a profit. video here of their ipo a few years ago. that guy's name is snoo. what? snoo. well, what snoo is that? reddit made a profit up 25% in pre trading. their shares are. elon musk warning america will have to go through some tough times if he's put in charge of the federal budget. trump wants to make musk the director of a department of government efficiency. temporary hardship is what musk is calling
5:16 am
it. musk has said he'll cut 2 trillion from the federal budget. mathematically, that would have to include portions of social security, medicare and defense. former trump aide steve bannon, fresh out of prison, spoke about musk at a press conference. elon musk, as you know, tulsi gabbard was a democrat. robert f kennedy jr was a democrat. elon musk was a very progressive democrat. they've all become awakened by the maga movement today. i think he's one of the strongest supporters of the maga movement. he's gone through a awakening. i think very few have come. an apple introduced another new computer tuesday, the second so far this week. the newest is a mac mini, and it's really mini. here's a picture of it sitting on the desk. it is just five by five inches, so it would fit in most people's hands. it's also not very expensive for a mac 600 bucks. only complaint people have is apple. put the power button on the back bottom of the box so the minis can't reach the
5:17 am
mini. right? exactly right. yes. now, i guess these days you don't really turn off your. you don't turn off your computer at work, right? you just, you know, control, alt, delete, lock and go home, right? yeah, yeah. but if you wanted to, because all the cables are coming out from under there. yeah. get underneath it. yeah. what are you going to do? yeah. big problems. all right. thanks, scott. all right. making it in the bay is getting a little bit easier for dozens of people in mountain view. later this morning, leaders in the south bay will celebrate the opening of a new affordable housing complex is located along the el camino. mountain view, along with santa clara county and the nonprofit jamboree housing corporation. they're actually converting the old crestview hotel into what is now the heartwood apartments. that project mostly funded by the state's homekey program. the ceo of jamboree says that similar programs have been very successful. we oftentimes have folks move in who have been diagnosed with a chronic condition, cancer, diabetes. they're having trouble living on

the street, but once they move into the permanent housing and then they get the health care that they need, they flourish. residents started moving into the units a couple of months ago. all 48 units are occupied. today's grand opening is at 10:00 this morning. also today, a new fire station opens in the south bay. it's located in redwood estates in the los gatos mountains along madrone road. it will serve people living along the highway 17 corridor. santa clara county fire says the new station provides enhanced safety for first responders and features a climate controlled turnout room and a decontamination shower. a grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 1130 this morning. this all comes as there was a small fire along highway 17 over the weekend near glenwood drive. the flames triggered evacuations before crews were able to contain it. no word on what sparked that fire. good timing there. well, trending this morning. if you need something to get you in the halloween

spirit, you might want to hop on bart tonight. yeah. so bart is encouraging riders to dress up in transit themed costumes in exchange for a bart anime swag. the transit agency actually has four anime mascots. did you know that you can see them right here on your screen tonight? you can actually get free bart anime cup sleeve with the purchase of a boba. this is a boba tea. this is a yi fang taiwan fruit tea is located near the colma bart station. bart commissioned local artists to actually create those mascots. a couple of years ago, which have already generated tens of thousands of dollars from merchandise sales. the train systems in taiwan and japan, they do this, and it's a huge success. so we knew there was already a model out there and anime is so popular in the bay area, especially with young people. now the free anime cup sleeve with boba tea purchase are available from 5 to 7 tonight. the costumes earn extra swag, of course. bart says that
5:20 am
colma is the perfect location for the free halloween celebration because it has so many cemeteries, it's a nice way to look at it. if you're celebrating. well, if you have some traditions, observe like a day of the dead. that's true. it's coming up. exactly. all right. okay. that haunting season in the fall. feeling certainly in the air. i know. and suddenly you want your costume to have a little more, you know, coverage. yeah. it's been pretty chilly. and the temperature just drops like a rock as soon as the sun sets. but then we're also going to have a little bit of rain between today and tomorrow. we'll have to watch out for this system. is arriving with some light showers just to our north and we're going to see rain chances increasing later on this evening. clouds already starting to move in as we go throughout the day. it will be partly cloudy and a little bit of rain later on tonight. but as far as temperatures, yes, it's been on the cool side well below normal even for this time of year with a high of 64 expected in oakland and in santa rosa it will be 64 in dublin and livermore and 66
5:21 am
in san jose. and tomorrow. it's also just as cool with temperatures in some spots about 5 to 6 degrees cooler than normal. and that also continues into friday as well. so in between we are going to see some rain coming in. this is early tomorrow morning at 1 a.m. we're seeing the rain moving through the north bay, and it may be heavy in some spots just briefly, but then by 9:00 most of it is already clearing the bay area. there may be some lingering showers as we go through the next few hours tomorrow, but overall it looks like it dries out in time for trick or treating. and then the next round of rain comes in late friday night and continues into saturday morning. so we're going to see some very active and changeable weather over the next few days, with the possibility of about a 10th of an inch of rain, maybe slightly more for parts of the north bay, but for parts of the peninsula into the east bay, the rain is going to be very light. or even if it rains heavily, it's not going to last that long for the cierra
5:22 am
this weekend we were looking forward to a decent amount of snow, but some of the models kind of backing off on how much snow we could see. so it's now looking like about 1 to 5in of snow for some of the higher elevations in the sierra, and then for temperatures, we were hoping that we'd get back to some fall weather. well, we will eventually next week. we're looking at low to mid 70s for the inland east bay, and this is the weekend we're going to remind you 1.2 million times to set your clocks back one hour on sunday morning. and then, of course, we don't have to remind you to vote next tuesday. a lot going on in this 7-day forecast. and mike, now how's it looking in the north bay. we have a little bit of a delay over here. westbound 37. we talk about your typical slowing. if i can get my maps back there. my goodness. let's take one more time. well we'll look over here towards the city in the east bay. the only issue we have is southbound 242. it's still at the clayton onramp. and i just learned that this crash involves a light pole. there may be additional

work, but the on ramp to. 242 southbound is still open, and we're looking at a smooth flow of traffic as we're looking at the travel times out of contra costa county. we now have a little build for vasco road. nothing major, but just showing that traffic starting to head down to alameda county. back to you. thanks, mike. thanks to you all today in the bay, we are counting down to election day. your vote will make history. so watch the results in real time with us. i'm chris chma. i'll showur

bay where we're seeing a lot of 30s this morning. sonoma, you're walking out the door to 38 degrees and it's 47 in danville and in san jose it's 50 degrees. we are going to see a cool morning. and we're even in the 30s in morgan hill, san martin area this morning. and as we go throughout the day, a few more clouds rolling in. but then clearing out and a gradual warm up as we head for the upper 60s. this afternoon, we'll talk about some rain on the way coming up. but mike, you're looking at lights on at the bay bridge. yeah, the lights on the bay bridge crossing the bridge are moving smoothly, but soon we'll have the lights on at the toll plaza. and that's when the backup will start. another ten, 15 minutes for that to show on our cameras. meanwhile, we're showing some slowing. north bay highway 37 as well as highway four. look at that. slowing into concord out of pittsburgh and bay point. want to call out one issue for highway 24? it is opposite our commute. it's eastbound 24, but chp reports a number of vehicles on the right shoulder. they're looking for debris. no problems or slowing reported. we'll track that. the
5:33 am
rest of the bay lawrence moving very smoothly back to you. all right. we'll check back with you. it is 532. right now. happening today. hundreds of striking san francisco hotel workers plan to fill the streets downtown. they are marching to demand a new contract after the previous contract expired in august. today in the bay's. bob redell joins us live this morning with more of what these workers are actually asking for. bob, good morning to you, laura. the workers who work at these five hotels in san francisco want their employers to start negotiating with them for a new strike, which the union, who represents these workers, says hasn't happened yet since they went on strike. this is video from when those workers first went on strike last september. the workers include servers, bartenders, housekeepers and bellhops, among other roles, and they work at five hotels, namely the grand hyatt and sf hilton. san francisco union square marriott, union square, palace hotel, and the westin san francis. the workers are calling on the hotels to, quote bet on
5:34 am
sf by restaffing. the hotels from the pandemic lows and restoring guest services. now the president of the workers union says that in return for this investment that they're asking for, they are willing. the workers are willing to hold on, hold off on guaranteed wages increases, wage increases and tie their compensation to hotel profits. when you have one person working a job that three people used to work, the guest is going to notice that they're going to see that for example, when you talk about doormen, if you have a doorman who is trying to hail a taxi for someone over here and, you know, give directions to someone over there and answer a question for someone else, you know, people's bags get stolen. that's one of the stories we've heard recently from a doorman is that while he was helping one guest, another guest's bag was stolen. so things like that will make people have a bad experience. and when there's only one person working, it's not possible for them to give the level of service that our guests deserve. we did reach out to the hotels.
5:35 am
hilton responded yesterday with this statement. hilton makes every effort to maintain a cooperative and productive relationship with the unions that represent some of our team members. we remain committed to negotiating in good faith to reach a fair and reasonable agreement that is beneficial to both our valued team members and to our hotel. in september, hyatt told us that the company was disappointed the union decided to strike. they say, quote, we have a history of offering competitive wages and benefits in the market, including comprehensive health care at little or no cost. as well as retirement savings. we haven't heard back yet from marriott. i reached out to them yesterday as well. the workers will march at 415 this afternoon to the four hotels located around union square. the union says that they are working with police to minimize any disruption. reporting live, bob redell today in the bay. all right. we'll see how it goes. thank you very much, bob. it is 535. and now there are just six days to go until election day. and word of new policies this morning from the trump team. scott mcgrew with us this
5:36 am
morning. and, scott, his staffers have indicated that trump may withhold federal funding from police departments that don't help with immigrant roundups. right. so this is something kind of similar to what he tried the first time around, this brand new reporting, by the way, from nbc, three sources on the trump team telling our reporters in washington that they've adjusted their policies to better survive court challenges, particularly in blue states that would presumably include all of california. california will jail undocumented immigrants, of course, for crimes committed here, but does not alert federal authorities of the prisoners immigrant status. we'll keep an eye on that democratic candidate for president, kamala harris, delivered her last major address before election day on the ellipse outside the white house last night. the crowd size was enormous. remember five years ago, harris dropped out of the presidential race after her campaign ran out of money and generated very few supporters. she was polling around 3%. she
5:37 am
now has support, according to the polls, of almost exactly half of all voting americans, and set records in fundraising. more than $1 billion. here's the vice president. we have to stop pointing fingers and start locking arms. it is time to turn the page on the drama and the conflict. the fear and division. it is time for a new generation of leadership in america. and i am ready to offer that leadership as the next president of the united states of america. unlike donald trump, i don't believe people who disagree with me are the enemy. he wants to put them in jail. i'll give them
5:38 am
a seat at the table. i pledge to you to approach my work with the joy and optimism that comes from making a difference in people's lives, and i pledge to be a president for all americans. now, the one mission for democrats stay on message and the message was harris. harris on the ellipse. but something president biden said got in the way, and republicans are making hay with it. you may have seen or heard little clips of what biden said, appearing to call trump supporters garbage. the white house says biden, who often misspeaks, meant specifically the trump speech at madison square garden. let's show you a longer version of that controversial soundbite so you can judge for yourself. he wants to do away with the birthright citizenship. who the hell said that in the last 100 years? and just the other day, a
5:39 am
speaker at his rally called puerto rico a floating island of garbage. well, let me tell you something. i don't. i don't know the puerto rican that that i know or puerto rico where i'm in my home state of delaware. they're good, decent, honorable people. the only garbage i see floating out there is his supporters. his his his demonization of latinos is unconscionable, and it's un-american. trump, quick to compare biden's statement with hillary clinton's famous line labeling trump supporters as deplorables. lastly, a court in north carolina has thrown out a republican lawsuit that would have set aside ballots coming in from overseas, from military and expats. pennsylvania and michigan courts have ruled similarly. earlier this month, the court says there's no reason to be suspicious of such ballots, and the u.s. supreme court has refused to step in and force michigan and wisconsin to remove robert kennedy's name from the ballots. kennedy dropped out of the race. the state said. marcus, it's just
5:40 am
too late. all right. there you have it. all right, scott, thank you. 539 this morning and city leaders in oakland are working to crack down on illegal dumping. they have agreed to buy 60 additional surveillance cameras. and for the so-called hotspots. now, the technology will have the ability to track the license plate of illegal dumpers. it also comes as video is going viral of one man who recorded stacks of tires there in the fruitvale neighborhood. look at that. well, this happened last week, and it features the exchange with the person allegedly responsible for the sidewalk nuisance. the man behind the recording thinks illegal dumping will still find a way. and people will avoid being caught in the city of oakland. a lot of these illegal dumpers will just take off their license plate, and you don't know who to who to tie it to unless you dig through it and find like a receipt or a piece of mail or something like that. one of the new cameras will be installed along prentis street this is where a viral incident took place. south bay leaders

are taking a bold new step in developing a state of the art transit village. as bart expands into san jose santa clara valley transit authority later this morning is announcing new funding for more than a dozen groups and organizations. all are helping the agency focus on new transit based communities in neighborhoods surrounding the south bay's busiest hubs. the agency even has a promotional video that's outlining the plan. the vta says grants of up to $175,000 are being provided to enhance the live work experience in what the agency calls a unique opportunity. other transit agencies have transit oriented development. they build housing or commercial properties near their transit centers, but we don't know of anyone else who is actually investing in the community the way vta is to build up these transit oriented communities, places where people can take transit and have their surroundings be accessible and equitable and attractive places to be, and thrive. the new

villages will be focused on areas within a half mile radius of vta transit stations, including downtown san jose, santa clara, and the 28th street stations. the grant funding is actually coming from income generated from agency owned properties. bart is now expected to reach downtown san jose in the year 2037. oh, all right, well, here's a live look for you this morning in san jose weather. well, it's cold this morning. meteorologist kari hall has a look at what we can expect today. and throughout the week. right. yeah. we are going to see at times some clouds mixing in and then rain chances tonight. and we are of course watching our halloween forecast as you make some plans. it will be drying out going into the afternoon as well as the evening, and then another chance of rain coming in early on saturday. so we have a couple of systems in the works that's heading into the bay area. the first one is arriving right now with more clouds, some rain in parts of the coastal north bay,
5:43 am
and that will continue to fizzle out as it makes it into much of the rest of the bay area, with rain holding off until late tonight. but we just have cool temperatures to start in los gatos right now at 42 degrees, we will see low 40s over the next couple of hours, and then increasing sunshine as we gradually head for some upper 60s for later. today we'll talk more about tomorrow's forecast coming up. but mike, now you're timing out the backup at the bay bridge. last report we talked about how it should happen over the next few minutes. and it has here right on schedule for your typical wednesday, a smooth drive to the bay bridge. at the bay bridge, we slow down. we wait for those metering lights and the slowing on the incline, and that keeps everything moving smoothly across the span itself. a little build for richmond. that's why we expect more traffic over the next few. steal that disabled vehicle eastbound 24 just around old tunnel road. no major issues, but again, several vehicles are on the right shoulder in the city. a smooth drive right now into the area. i did have this sign up here yesterday. game 7 p.m. chase center. same thing
5:44 am
tonight. same opponent, hopefully same result at the very end of the game. we like that final score for the warriors. meanwhile, the rest of the bay shows a nice smooth drive in the south bay. northbound 101 does show your typical slowing, and we do have a ten minute delay for the sf line of bart. but again, we continue with this look ahead as well. if you're heading to the airport, allow an extra 20 minutes for your shuttle. it's running at half time or half speed. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. you got football on the mind, mike. 543 right now. still ahead on today in the bay. the way one east bay health center is helping to break down language barriers while trying to build up patients voices. it's a little sort of daily dose of relationship skills and practice at a time when loneliness is considered a public health crisis, the san francisco based therapist created an app to help people with their relationships, even if they can't get the therapy in person. plus, have it your way. the all new project burger king is serving up just in time for

have some rain coming in. we'll talk about when, where and how much to expect coming up. and while the bay bridge toll plaza is nearly full, this burst of traffic southbound on the golden gate bridge caught my attention. looks like things are moving smoothly on the sensors approaching out of marin county. we'll track for any unusual changes coming up. thanks so much, kari and mike. 547 right now, while the election might be the next big thing on the calendar, retailers are already looking ahead to the holiday shopping season. in san francisco, for some outdoor shopping areas, that means a focus on safety. today in the bay's kris sanchez has more on what you might see when you go shopping. right, kris? right. so the plan is to take on safety from a few different angles, things that you may not notice as you are shopping at union square in particular, and things that you will. let's start there. these planters, you see here, they are about more than beautifying the sidewalk. they are meant to make it harder for smash and grab robbers, to use cars to crash into businesses. the planters, along with the bollards or those short little
5:49 am
poles in the ground, will encroach on the sidewalk and thus will require a city permit. mayor london breed announced the plan in front of this. louis vuitton store, which was rammed on monday, saying that she will push for a streamlined permit process. let's talk about the things that you may not notice right off the bat. san francisco police will patrol 24/7. there will also be undercover officers among the shoppers, and the sfpd will use license plate readers and even drones to maximize their law enforcement reach. merchants and shoppers told us they're on board. downtown union square in particular, is extraordinarily important to the overall health and well-being of our community and our city as a whole. if union square is doing well, the rest of our city is doing well. it's unfortunate that we have to go to those extremes in san francisco to be able to shop, but the impact on the crime is, is, is, is destroying the downtown of san francisco. all right. so just two weeks ago, california
5:50 am
attorney general rob bonta sent a bulletin to law enforcement across the state reminding them of ten new retail crime laws aimed at cracking down on smash and grab robberies, making it easier to charge. repeat shoplifters and punish the people who are reselling those stolen goods. nine of the ten go into effect in january. that is, of course, after the holiday rush. so what's happening before the shopping season starts is election day. california voters will decide proposition 36, and the measure on your ballot would allow felony charges for some thefts under $950, and could increase sentences for some theft and drug crimes. opponents say this will divert funding from treatment into prisons, so california will vote and decide that issue come election day next week. but of course, we all know that something's got to give. yeah. all right. thanks, chris. well, asian health services has been serving over 50,000 clients from its oakland base for half a century. but as

a trusted health care center, they've also become a reliable source of other important information for the community. today, nearly 400 are set to attend their general patient meeting in oakland. featured prominently on the agenda is the current election. what's really special about this general meeting is that we are having patients represented from 11 asian languages, and it is a nod to the diversity within our community. and for them to think about what is it that makes their environment and their local community a place that they want to live, and that's going to promote their health and well-being? the asian health services we've been now in the community. this is our 50th year of service and advocacy. and so, you know, we have built those relationships of trust. you know, they do feel comfortable to share. you know, what are you know, those critical kind of needs and issues and we're also teaching them and, you know, really sort of paving the way so that they feel that they are empowered to have a voice
5:52 am
because that is so important. ceo liao also notes part of the mission is to amplify and elevate their patients voices and make translations accessible. today's meeting will be from nine this morning until noon at the oakland asian cultural center. well, we all know it's talked about so much. loneliness is a public health crisis. according to the u.s. surgeon general. but sometimes those challenges we face in connection are common and fixable. a san francisco therapist co-founded an app. this is to help guide people through rough spots. it's called relatable. it's a collection of 120 audio sessions between five and seven minutes long, developed and delivered by one of two certified therapists. so after the session, they advise how to put it into practice in real life. while it's not full fledged therapy, the cofounder says that it addresses things like listening, navigating conflicts and daily interactions. it's people that care about their relationships. they know they need to pay attention to them. they want to,
5:53 am
but they may not have the time that it's, you know, they don't have time to listen to all the podcasts or to read all the books, or even to go to therapy for more intensive help. but they could do this and still get something from it. relatable app is about $10 a month or $90 for the year. it is available through the apple store or google play. well, trending this morning, you can now add vent your way with a help from burger king. the fast food chain is releasing its own limited edition advent calendar ahead of the holidays, so the calendar has dozens of drawers that have burger king related items that are worth more than $100 combined. burger king is actually keeping the full list of items a surprise, so shh. don't tell anyone. it will be available starting november 22nd for just under $20. open a little box, get a little whoppe, junior. it's been in there for like, if that's 23rd day for a while. yeah, it must be something different than that. hopefully. okay. all right. well, my daughter would say slow

the bus on the holidays. she wants to enjoy fall. let's enjoy halloween fall, thanksgiving, all of that stuff. because it definitely feels like it outside. and we're going to see the cool weather continue. every now and then. we have some rain coming our way, which is much needed at this point. let's get a look at these current temperatures. it is very chilly in the north bay. it's in the upper 30s right now. napa 42, and it's 52 in concord and 44 in fremont and pleasanton. so really we're starting out with temperatures anywhere from 38 degrees to low 50s. so as we get started, cool. pretty much all across the bay area. but then the temperatures even out for the afternoon, headed for the mid to upper 60s. east san jose up to 69 degrees and 66. in cupertino. and for the east bay, we're going to see a high of 68 in concord and walnut creek, very much like yesterday. and in hayward. expect a high of 64 and it will be 61. in half moon bay, a mix of sun and clouds and a
5:55 am
light wind and san francisco a little bit more breezy, up to 64. in the mission district and for the north bay, 66 in sonoma. and tonight we have some rain coming in. so this look at the timeline. 2:00 tomorrow morning we're going to see a quick round of rain sweeping through the bay area. it does clear out for tomorrow. late morning into the afternoon. and then we have another round of rain coming in between friday night and early saturday morning. so all of the wet weather much needed. but it's not a big soaker that we're talking about here. light amounts of rainfall that will total about a 10th of an inch in much of the north bay and san francisco, and a few hundredths of an inch of rain for parts of the east bay peninsula and south bay. this is the weekend we'll remind you to set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on saturday night, and we will see temperatures starting to warm up after that. we're headed for the low 70s early next week after spending pretty much this entire week in the 60s
5:56 am
that 70s, it's going to feel pretty nice out there. and for looking at san francisco's forecast, expect that chance of rain that's going to be early tomorrow morning. and mike, we usually see more slowing into the east bay right about. yeah. and no time change right here. right now. we're looking at that typical backup for wednesday at the bay bridge. and we see that volume build in other key spots. you see those cues the slower drive down the east shore freeway pinole down into richmond, el cerrito and getting down toward the merge off of the bridge from san rafael. the smooth drive at the toll plaza. the backup we just showed you filled in the toll plaza itself and highway 4 shows the build. there's one more complication out of antioch right around somersville reports of a crash. nothing major, but there was at least a distraction and more slowing. and then a little bit of a break as it builds again around railroad avenue. a smooth drive out of the altamont pass. we have the build toward the dublin interchange, but not enough to cause that sensor, slowing the south bay has your typical slowing northbound 101.
5:57 am
as you're heading through san jose and up toward the airport as well. that's the first burst that's been going on for about 15 minutes. it'll clear and then build again about an hour and a half, about 45 minutes from now. back to you. thanks, mike. happening now. opponents of one san francisco ballot measure are planning a morning rally. proposition k would permanently close a two mile stretch of upper great highway to traffic and turn it into an oceanfront park. rally organizers argue that that stretch is stretch is essential, and that the measure does not consider the needs of the community. prop k supporters are actually hoping to preserve that coastline. the rally starts at 10:00 this morning. an alert from police in the south bay over public restrooms. ahead, at 6:00, the search underway for a man caught filming women. the locations he targeted and the final days in the race for the white house are on. we're live in washington breaking down harris's final push to americans and trump's push to recover after that controversial rally
