12:02 pm
six days to go until election day. >> we'll start with vice president kamala harris, the vice president campaigned in battleground state of north carolina today, she had rallies later today in two other swing states, pennsylvania, and wisconsin. >> harris is coming off what her campaign called her closing argument speech in the nation's capital last night. estimates of 75,000 people watched her speak, promising to be a president for all americans. >> unlike donald trump, i don't believe people who disagree me are the enemy. he wants to put them in jail. i'll give them a seat at the table. >> the harris campaign is dealing with fallout from comments made by president biden during a campaign call with latino voters. reacting to a comedian who called puerto rico quote a floating island of garbage.
12:03 pm
here's part of what the president said. >> they're good, decent honorable people. the only garbage i see out there is his supporters. it's un-american. >> both president biden and the white house have tried to clarify those comments. the president was specifically returning to the hateful rhetoric at the madison square rally. >> shaquille brewster is in madison, wisconsin, shaq, good to see you, vice president harris addressed president biden's comments before she hit the campaign trail earlier today, what did she have to say? >> reporter: before hitting the plane and going to north carolina, she walked straight overto reporters and while she first tried to talk about her speech she knew she was going to be asked about the president's comments. this was her response. >> first of all, he clarified his comment. but let me be clear, i strongly
12:04 pm
disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for. >> reporter: later in that answer she went back to focusing on her speech and drawing that contrast with former president donald trump, saying that she wants to. a president for all americans even those who don't support her or plan to vote for her in this election and using that phrase it's time to turn that page on divi divisive. >> shaq, there's a brand new poll out today from marquette university law school, it shows the presidential race there neck and neck. vice president harris ahead of former president 50% to 49%. among likely wisconsin voters. that's well within the margin of error. what's the harris campaign saying about the importance of tonight's rally in madison?
12:05 pm
>> reporter: yes, another poll that shows it's going to be a tight race in wisconsin. that's exactly what people are expecting the result to be. why you're having an event like theone the harris campaign is having. this is very much a concert and a rally for the vice president. there will be some big bands coming through, we're talking about gracy abrams, mumford and sons. they're trying to not only mobilize young voters but what they call nontraditional voters especially in this key area of this battleground state, a place where you have a large college campus, lot of young voters a place if that turnout is high that usually means good things for democrats. let's go to the trump campaign now the former president and his allies are definitely seizing on that comment from president biden.
12:06 pm
>> former president trump responded while rallying supporters earlier today in north carolina a state that's criticalfor his path to victory. here's what he had to say. >> my response to joe and kamala is very simple -- you can't lead america if you don't love americans. and you can't be president if you hate the american people. we know it's what they believe because look how they've treated you. they've treated you like garbage. >> dasha burns is in north carolina where the former president spoke earlier today, this is a 180 from yesterday when the trump campaign was on the defensive over the new york rally, so what's their messaging right now on this biden comment? >> reporter: the crowd has just cleared out from behind him, the

trump campaign was in full cleanup mode for about 48 hours after those racest comments made by the comic at msg, they were in middle of an event in allentown, pennsylvania, where they brought in speakers from puerto rico, puerto rican supporters, trying to rally the latino vote, in the middle of that event, the former president was given the news of president biden's comments, he jumped on them right away making the connections to hillary clinton's basket of deplorables comment in 2016. this is what the trump campaign was looking for to pivot the conversation from those comments. but the fallout for the former president isn't necessarily over, guys, just a couple of hours ago, a massive puerto rico musical artist rescinded his endorsement of the former president.
