we begin on this halloween morning with a decisive matchup that saw the west coast emerge as the best coast for baseball. >> start the party, los angeles! your dodgers have won the world series! >> the los angeles dodgers took home their eighth world series title and second in five seasons in that epic game five comeback versus the new york yankees. after getting out to a 5-0 lead, the yanks suffered a massive collapse in the fifth inning with three errors leading to l.a. scoring five of their own to tie it up. they added on two in the eighth to take the lead before walker buehler ended the yankees' season for good. and then there's freddie freeman who didn't continue his historic home run streak, and he was unsurprisingly, though, named world series mvp thanks to his four homers, including game one's walk-off grand slam. and the celebrations began

immediately in l.a. the dodgers faithful also get the parade they missed out on with their 2021 win, due to the pandemic. president biden is facing more backlash after appearing to call trump supporters garbage. he said he was referring to the rhetoric of a specific supporter. but donald trump is using the rhetoric to ramp up the base. he climbed into a garbage truck where he tried to tie comments to vice president harris, but she's pushing back. >> crooked joe biden finally said what he and kamala really think of our supporters. he called them garbage. no way. no way. you can't lead america if you don't love americans. that's true. >> i strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for. i incontinued totend to be presl

and infrastructure security, cisa says the nation's shields are up. >> what we are seeing are russia, iran, china conducting influence operations, disinformation operations focussed on two goals, to undermine american confidence and the legitimacy of our elections, and to stoke partisan discord. >> reporter: last week, pennsylvania election officials quickly labeled this video a fake, which depicted somebody allegedly ripping up ballots for donald trump. >> fbi, the intelligence community and cisa came out affirming that it was a fake russian video. look, we are going to see more of this. >> reporter: ahead of the elections, cisa has now role played 200 response scenarios with all 50 states, from ransomware attacks to deep fake videos to bombings. there's a lot to keep track of. nationwide, 132,000 polling places, 775,000 poll workers. it's here that they watch for

any signs of cyber or physical interference. do you see any sign of a successful foreign attempt to hack into any bit of the election mechanics in the country? >> no, and in my view, that would not be possible. >> reporter: not possible, because every state runs their own elections. there is no single point of vulnerability. voting machines are not connected to the internet. 97% use paper ballots, and every say t state has added layers of security since 2020. >> i think the greatest threat is this fire hose of disinformation. it's closeorrosive to our democ, and by the way, it's creating very real physical threats to election workers and election officials and their families. >> reporter: foreign and domestic disinformation turning americans against each other. tom costello, nbc news, washington. in spain, flash flooding has killed at least 95 people in the

country's worst national disaster in decades. dozens more are missing. it happened in the country's east, mostly in the valencia region which saw a year's worth of rain in just it's hours. for the latest, let's turn to matt bodner. what do we know about the search and rescue efforts? >> reporter: frances, good morning. search and rescue efforts are ongoing, and the spanish government has deployed more than 1,000 soldiers to help scores of people who are still stranded in inaccessible areas. many homes are in ruin, and it is still unclear just how many people are missing. one spanish official has called this the storm of the century. the spanish king is speaking of quote, enormous destruction. and that is clear from the videos out of valencia hitting social media. piles of cars are being thrown around the city streets. one dramatic video of a rescue showed a helicopter airlifting a woman and her pets from this home amid high winds and raging floods below them. another showed the rescue of a child. valencia has been devastated, but it's not the only area hit by the floods.

the nearby town of chiva saw an incredible 19 inches of rain in those eight hours and regional officials have declared a red-level emergency. though the rains have subsided later wednesday morning, more storms are forecast to hit today. and to put this in perspective, this is the worst natural disaster to hit europe in decades. if we look at just spain, nothing like this has happened since 1996, when 87 people were killed by floods. weather events like this, stastadly are becoming more common. the scientific community says they are most likely a product of the climate crisis. back to you, frances. >> that is a dread it will happen again. thank you, matt. on wednesday, rain helped crews, fire crews, battling two bru brush fires in massachusetts. it improved air quality in the area. officials are hopeful today's halloween festivities will go

the fed meets next week. they are predicting that it grew 2.8% mg grew. now this comes after third quarter u.s. gdp came in on wednesday showing the economy grew at 2.8% on the year. that's slightly below expectations of 3.1%. and this would all feed into how americans are feeling about the state of the economy. one of the key issues as we march towards voting day for the u.s. presidential election next week. but maybe some positive news for coffee drinkers. starbucks has said it will no longer charge extra for non-dairy milk all terternative.
