states, trump attempting to seize the moment and harris focuses on undecided voters. we want everyone to run through the finish line to hit the tape at the finish line. but we're feeling very good about where we stand right now here in the bay area. democrats and republicans trying to get people out to vote. the push they're making before election day. plus, the l.a. dodgers win the world series. the moment they took home that title, the big celebrations, some of which took a little while turn overnight. this is today in the bay. 5:00 on your thursday morning. happy halloween to you. as well. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. mike has a look at that spooky commute this morning. not too bad for you, but that forecast for us, the trick or treating forecast. it looks great for trick or treating. i know it's a little iffy right now with some off and on rain that's been moving through during the overnight hours, and you're heading off to
5:02 am
work with some damp streets and maybe even the need for windshield wipers. but most of the rain heading through the south bay and continues to clear out. we will continue to see the wet weather moving on on towards the south county, and then eventually clearing the bay area heading into the main commute hours. but this move through overnight brought us enough rain to at least wet the streets and everything. and then there is another one that's going to be coming in for the weekend. so our hour by our outlook shows that first wave of rain arrivin, and then we will see some clearing for the afternoon. but looking at what we're going to see late tomorrow night, another round of rain. so as that rain moves in, you can track it with our newly updated nbc bay area app. you can scan the qr code right there on your screen and that will take you to our app. it's the only way to get your local weather from the people you know like me. all right, let's head over to mike. you're tracking a freeway closure on the peninsula. yeah, from

traffic from me. you know me over here on the peninsula. we know the san mateo bridge. and actually, until just a few minutes ago, we had eastbound 92 closed off at for a period of time, a truck fire blocked all access to the san mateo bridge. but it's been traveling smoothly past the scene. folks have been getting off and then back on the freeway minutes ago. got the all clear. that incident was cleared from the chp report, but the entire time i've been here at the station this morning, i've been seeing traffic come across into the east bay commute direction westbound, very light. back to you. thank you. mike. well, election day almost here with five days to go. the campaign spirit is reaching top speed. former president trump and vice president harris in the southwest. today. political stars and celebrities will be joining them in their final push to get you out to vote today in the bay's alice barr joins us live from washington. and alice, this all comes as continued fallout over president biden's comments when it comes to trump supporters calling them garbage. laura and marcus and president

biden has clarified that he was talking about specifically this comedian at the madison square garden rally. but former president trump is leaning in hard to this vice president harris stepping back. it's sort of the swirling controversy that's both a sideshow but also representative of a lot that's happening here that as today, former president trump and vice president harris are campaigning in arizona and nevada. former president trump also adding a new mexico stop stamina or that special the presidential nominees making a battleground blitz across the southwest today after both holding big events in wisconsin. we're going to bring back our country. are we ready to win in this final stretch? vice president harris centering reproductive rights as part of a larger fight for freedoms. the government shouldn't be telling her what to do with her body, not the government. as former president trump again said, he wants to protect american women, noting that's despite advice from his advisers. well, i'm

5:06 am
words with five days to go. members of the harris campaign seized on former president trump's phrase that he'll protect women, whether they like it or not. they're arguing he thinks he knows better than the women of america. while a trump campaign spokesperson said vice president harris has put policies in place that have left women far less safe, and this is significant in the context of this election's deep gender divide. marcus final stretch here. but the fight is still as strong. alice barr for us this morning. alice, thank you. well, here in the bay area, republicans and democrats are on overdrive trying to drive people to the ballot box. san francisco democratic party volunteers are calling registered voters from across the country. they're focusing their efforts in california and critical swing states needed for vice president harris to pull off a win. the organization has even extended its hours at its san francisco market street headquarters, leading up to election day, and are continuing to ask for support. it's not over until november fifth, and i think that

going to see the rain clearing out. it's looking really nice for the parade. if you're going, you may have some showers. if you're driving down today. and then we're headed for the low 70s. they're really going to have some nice conditions all throughout the weekend with sunshine and highs headed for the lower 70s. we're seeing a mixed bag of weather here, but it will overall start to clear out and shape up to be a nice one for our halloween. with highs in the upper 60s for parts of the north bay. novato 68 degrees and 66, in palo alto. and we'll also see some mid 60s in the peninsula as well as the south bay tomorrow. there's not really much of a change. and then we'll start to see showers coming in by late tomorrow night. so i'll be tracking all of that for you. we'll talk about the weekend coming up. mike has a look at where we can fill up for just a little bit less. yeah, we'll start in alameda county this morning. best price there is 3.79 at livermore's diamond gas and mart on south front road in marin county. we have the middle price here. that's 3.89 at hq fuels on

are a political football. they shouldn't be, but they are. you see, these stickers that people put on my gas pumps when they want to blame the president for high gas prices. i remind you, presidents have essentially no control over gas prices up or down. biden, trump. they can't take the credit. they can't really get the blame either. presidents just cannot control gas prices. but oftentimes when it's good, we do see them kind of like oh, absolutely. they will talk about it, you know, and then they point the fingers at the other guy. yep. but their three year low. yeah they haven't. all right. thanks guy. you bet. 516 right now. new details are emerging about san francisco mayor london breeds plan to bring pandas to the city. zoo officials say they're close to reaching that money needed to make it a reality. according to the chronicle, the san francisco zoological society has raised $20 million so far, but the plan may come in under budget. the group says chinese wildlife officials seem to be favoring remodeling an older habitat to house the pandas.

originally, mayor breed sought $25 million from private donors to build the new enclosure. the mayor's office confirms to the paper no one has donated yet. 20 for you this morning. expect sha'carri to have some company tonight over at sap center, at least when it comes to costumes. it should be fun. that's because the sharks are rolling out a festive theme for tonight's game against the blackhawks. they're hosting an event. the team calls colleen to celebrate, not only halloween, but dia de los muertos and day of the dead events starting tomorrow. sharks players will wear some special jerseys, and fans are encouraged to dress up. the arena will also be decked out to honor the bay area's rich mexican culture. there will be an ofrenda staged on the north concourse. it's the first time we're going to have an sap center to honor deceased loved ones of the team, community, so fans can stop by. we have these butterflies that they can write the names of their deceased loved ones on, or
5:19 am
write messages to them and stick them to the ofrenda. so a quick note about costumes. sap will not allow swords, light sabers, gun blasters, or other props. masks and headgear are both okay. tickets are still available and the puck drops tonight at 730. should be a fun game. yeah, it's always cool to see people dressed up. i don't know if you all saw over there at the warriors game last night. a lot of folks were dressed up as well. so did they ride bart with the costume and then get their anime and their boba tea? oh, you know, i forgot about that. maybe they did. i feel like halloween kind of lasts the whole week. yeah, it starts last week. especially when it's, like in the middle of the week. yeah. so if it's on a thursday, i think we'll continue the celebration this weekend. we'll be tired tomorrow. i'll tell you that right now. and the weather is pretty nice. even though we had some overnight rain, we're still headed back to the mid to upper 60s for today. and these are some of the same temperatures we've been seeing all throughout much of the week, with a high of 68 degrees expected today in walnut creek will be up to 66 in oakland and
5:20 am
62 in half moon bay. also looking at some 60s and san francisco. the outer sunset up to 60 degrees today and 66 in santa rosa. so pretty. nice weather, slightly cooler than normal. the front is continuing to pull away from the bay area, taking with it all of the rain. so still some spotty showers left in the south county and give it another 15 to 20 minutes before it's out of here. and then we'll have a couple of days of at least a one day, one full day of some dry weather before this next system comes in, which is set to arrive late tomorrow night. so let's time that out for you as it moves into the north bay. it's going to be basically very early on saturday morning, so we're not expecting this to also affect any of your weekend plans. so with the rain coming through in the overnight, we're going to see it in the north bay right around 11 to 12:00 in the morning on saturday. and then we're going to see it clearing out as we head throughout the saturday afternoon. rainfall totals could be fairly decent here over the next couple of days, with a
5:21 am
possibility of another quarter inch of rain for some of the north bay, as well as the east bay, even down to san jose. so we're going to see just some hit or miss showers as that moves in with some of the higher rainfall totals in some of the inland areas. and then we're making weekend plans. there's the lofgren festival in downtown gilroy on saturday. it's going to be very nice there, kind of on the cool side, but our high temperature is headed for the upper 60s with a mix of sun and clouds. then on sunday morning, we get up and we have to look around the house at the clock to make sure we set some of them back. it will be in the low 70s for the afternoon and temperatures are trending warmer for next week with mid 70s, which is actually about normal for early november. so we're going to see a mix of sun and clouds in our forecast today for san francisco. showers early on saturday, but looking good for your saturday afternoon plans. and mike, you're looking at a crash now in the south bay. a couple of crashes. kari. we have
5:22 am
north 85. not a lot of detail, but as you're approaching almaden boulevard, we do have a crash in the center divide. no injuries and no other detail there. now, these two for southbound 17. i think they're duplicate reports of a crash is reported right around the cats. both report vehicles either spun out or in the wrong direction on the shoulder. the note there is the fact that they talk about a spin out, and we do see some of the highlighting from time to time in that area from overnight mist, drizzle, rain that's happened. so watch the traction. watch those speeds this morning. nothing major going on for the rest of the bay. there's a little flooding report likely a blocked drain or some issue of some runoff on the roadway. we'll check in and let you know if there's anything major going on, but it's usually the off ramps at the base over here. highway 37 does show you a typical slowing out of vallejo as it starts for the morning commute. back to you. thanks, mike. 522 right now. coming up next on today in the bay, nbc bay area response. some criminals soul scam is draining gift cards. so you've got to protect that plastic. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. we'll show you how next.

plus, one of the most anticipated days of the year. finally here. halloween on today. and you can see the tricks. the today show team has actually upped its sleeves as the tightly guarded secret of their costume theme is finally revealed. that's all coming up for you this morning, 7:00, right after us here on today in the
5:26 am
kris karma shows us how to protect ourselves. protecting a gift card starts at the rack in the store, because that's where many criminals start. before you buy a card, look for tampering. some scammers mess with the barcode. you can feel the sticker. it has a little bit of a ridge on it. former police officer michelle loss spotted a tampered card and made a viral video on tiktok. here's the scam. that barcode sticker is for a different gift card that the thief has so any money you load onto that card would actually land on the thief's card. so look for a sticker. take that extra 20s and just kind of feel it. look at it, visually inspect it. you can choose a gift card with extra security. some of them let you set up a pin, especially those used anywhere kind. that might make it tougher for the bad guys to drain your balance. after you
5:27 am
get a gift card, use it asap because other criminals are simply hacking to try to drain your balance. there are groups out there that this is all they do, so use your gift card as soon as possible. here's another idea try to cash out your gift card in california. if your gift card has less than $10 on it. state law says the store has to give you cash or a check for the balance. if you have more than $10 on a card, you know you're not going to use, consider selling it on a third party exchange. they might not give you face value for it, but it's more than zero, which is exactly what the thieves will leave you. thanks so much, chris. well, next, here are the top stories we're following today, including. the rain is here. meteorologist kari hall tracking just how long it will last. and if it will be clear this evening in time for the trick or treating. and there's all kinds of trick or treating and festivities happening even before nightfall. but of course, we have to go with the reminders

can't even answer the question because i never expressed a political view. no. now i'm asking you about the political views. i know you're asking, do you support genocide heated confrontation in the east bay. one man knocked out of a cop kicked out, i should say, of a coffee shop. this is over the hat he was wearing. the tense exchange. police are now investigating this is today in the bay. good morning to you on this thursday. happy halloween. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. let's start out with a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. this morning. lots of more changes that's coming our way as we go into the next couple of days. so we've seen some rain early this morning, and then it's going to be clearing out as we go throughout the day. i know that was the important question for the trick or treaters. it's going to be cloudy, chilly temperatures in the 40s and 50s later on this evening for the weekend. a stronger storm will be coming our way, bringing just slightly more rainfall and the
5:32 am
rain that we had this morning is already rolling out of here. still some light showers around san martin and gilroy and the rest of us are seeing a lot of lingering clouds and cool temperatures, and it will be a gradual warm up as we head throughout the day and partly cloudy, and we'll see that next system dropping in early on saturday morning. so i'll talk more about that. mike, you have that damp pavement out there. yeah. so that note, even if it rained a little while ago, there's still damp roadways and it hasn't had good rain for a while. and so that may be an issue. just note the grease and the oil can make things a little more slippery. haven't heard any major issues, but a couple of spinouts around the bay. we have a new crash on the east shore freeway. we'll get notes from chp in just the next few minutes. meanwhile, top of the screen shows a typical slowing for westbound 37, and westbound highway four now shows a little bit of break tapper through bay point, heading toward concord. this had cleared from the chp report. they put it back on again overnight. we had a truck fire eastbound at 92. you have to get off the freeway and then back on at foster city boulevard. you can access the
5:33 am
san mateo bridge, though without any major delays. back to you. thanks, mike. two decision 2020 for donald trump is making sure you remember the word garbage. scott mcgrew garbage has been the word of the week. the word of the week. maybe the word of the month because donald trump remember, actually called america a garbage can in speeches in both michigan and arizona earlier this month. then you had the garbage island comment from that comedian at the trump rally, and then biden appeared to call trump supporters garbage as well. how do you like my garbage truck? this truck is in honor of kamala and joe biden. so trump got his own garbage truck to drive him around in circles at the airport in green bay and wore a hi viz sanitation workers vest to his rally there. joe biden's comments were the direct result of kamala's decision to portray everyone who isn't voting for her, which is a lot of people, as evil and subhuman. and we
5:34 am
know it's really what they believe because look at how they've treated you. they treat you like garbage. they treat our whole country like garbage with open borders, with all of the horrible things they've done to hurt our country. inflation. that should have never happened. allowing russia to go into ukraine october 7th in israel. all of these things would have never happened if you had a different president. now, quick fact check russia was in ukraine when trump was president. it had already invaded crimea. as for the garbage, republicans have dismissed their comedian's comment about puerto rico at the trump rally as a joke. jd vance saying people should get over it, but absolutely. capitalizing on biden's comment, biden has clarified he did not mean voters were garbage, but it's caused a headache for the harris campaign. trump also making claims about voting fraud in pennsylvania, leading some analysts to guest his internal polling shows he's going to lose that state. they're testing machines in wisconsin. officials
5:35 am
say they're ready to go there. the secretary of state in michigan, meantime, warned there's a specific problem with voting machines designed to be used by handicapped voters. if you mark the straight ticket box saying you want to vote for all republicans on the ballot or all democrats, and then go in and vote for a candidate of the opposite party, you will get an error message. it's fixable. but officials warn it will slow down voting. officials in portland, meantime, briefed citizens there about their plans to keep the election safe. a ballot collection box there was burned in florida. an 18 year old was arrested for threatening elderly poll workers with a machete. he was part of a roving band of young men trying to intimidate voters. now, while trump was in green bay, vice president harris went to wisconsin's capital, madison, warning trump would further restrict abortion. before that, she was in north carolina. we have an opportunity
5:36 am
in this election to turn the page on a decade of donald trump, who has been trying to keep us divided and afraid of each other. we know that is who he is. but north carolina, that is not who we are. this is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance, and out for unchecked power. in less than 90 days, either he or i will be in the oval office. a reminder as we get close to election night, it's likely we will not know by tuesday night who won, and states like pennsylvania will be close and again walk in votes, which lean republican will be counted faster than mail in votes, which lean democratic. so one candidate may seem ahead
5:37 am
only to have the other catch up, or possibly laura not. we'll be here wednesday morning for all your election coverage. in other news, oakland police are investigating after a man says he was kicked out of a coffee shop for wearing a star of david hat. hold on please. this gentleman asked me to leave because of my hat. you're being a this is a violent hat, and you need to leave. jonathan hirsch says he was playing chess with his five year old son over the weekend. that's when he says the owner of the jerusalem coffee house asked him to leave. hirsch says he went back and forth with the owner. he claims several people in the coffee shop called police. when officers arrived, hirsch felt they didn't do much to de-escalate the situation. we then stepped further down the street. he followed us and continued berating us. we moved further down the street to the property next door. he followed us and kept going, and the cops just kept acting the whole time, as though there was some mutual disagreement here. he says the sergeant eventually arrived on scene to settle things down. opd

confirms officers were called to the coffee shop on saturday and is looking into whether what transpired is a hate incident. nbc bay area went to the coffee shop last night to ask the owner to share his side of the story. he declined to speak. 537 right now and today is the day all ghosts and goblins have been waiting for. no matter how you're going to spend halloween trick or treating or going to a party, you should be extra watchful for those pedestrians out there. this is for anyone in any moving vehicle today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us live this morning. and kris, you're over at one of the hotspots in san jose. yes i'm in san jose's willow glen neighborhood. and the downtown lincoln avenue area will be packed with kids during the midday hour. the little ones and then after school, when the school age kids showed up. because it's a tradition for the businesses here to hand out candy and participate in book giveaways as well. so this is a known spot. another known spot is san jose santana row, where families were out and about and
5:39 am
you expect to see little ghosts and goblins and little folks in costumes everywhere. but of course, kids of all ages are expected to be out in neighborhoods across the bay area, and some of them will be in those costumes that make it so much harder to see them out on the roadways, especially because it's so dark around trick or treating hours, and especially if they're not using crosswalks. children are 3.5 times more likely to be hit and killed by a car on halloween than any other day. throughout the year. so it's really important that we're hyper vigilant, not only as drivers, but as we're taking our kids out into the community just to make sure we're extra aware. kids get excited. they may dart out, and we just want to make sure we're keeping everybody safe. san jose police and i'm sure other police departments around the bay area remind us to watch for trip hazards, especially at the bottom of those costumes. so kids don't fall. also, use flashlights and reflective tape
5:40 am
to make sure your trick or treater is more visible. use the crosswalks and make eye contact with drivers so that they know that you see them and they see you. and as for the grown ups, it goes without saying folks, please do not drink and drive. now, as for all that candy that the kids are out collecting tonight, the folks at poison control say to make sure you check all of that candy before they eat it. maybe keep some candy in your pocket from home if they want a snack along the way, throw away any candy without wrappers, labeling or which you don't recognize. avoid the homemade treats unless you know the person who made them, and check for choking hazards for the little ones. make sure your medicine is out of reach, because some of it can look like candy. if you're a kid and you really want that candy. and when in doubt, you can always call poison control 24/7. that's the number there on your screen. we will put it up on our social pages as well, just to make sure that you have it. if you need i. so we expect a lot of trick or
5:41 am
treaters, whether you're going to those parties, whether you are going to be out trick or treating, make sure that you are very careful and make sure the kids are nice to the teachers tomorrow, too, because the kids are probably going to be out late and then they're going to school tomorrow. yeah. no kidding. tough times. marcus and laura, we should do it right. a fact check to see how many substitutes there are right? thanks, chris. all right. we do have an entire list of halloween events happening across the bay area. just head over to our website, nbcbayarea.com, and click on the halloween in the trending bar. that's right. keep it safe and keep it fun. here's a live look outside in another part of san jose, close to downtown this morning, seeing wet roadways as you walk out the door this morning. some overnight light rain. will it continue tonight for trick or treaters? meteorologist kari hall is keeping track of the forecast. the rain is clearing out and just in time for trick or treating, the weather is looking perfect. take a look at the forecast for san francisco.

it will be partly cloudy throughout the day and our highs stay only in the 50s through much of the city, and we're going to see a mix of sun and clouds for the bay. it's going to be just a touch warmer with highs in the mid 60s, but really cooling off quickly in time for those trick or treaters to hit the streets. it will be partly cloudy and about 59 degrees and then checking out our inland forecast here we're going to see highs in the middle of the day headed for the upper 60s. partly cloudy with a breezy wind, and at 7:00 it will be 60 degrees. it's also a great day to check out some of the pumpkin patches. how about going to half moon bay where we are going to see those highs in the mid 50s and it's going to be chilly there, but perfect for those costumes taking pictures and enjoying all of the vivid colors of fall. and we'll be watching the forecast for the rest of the weekend. into the bay area. for now, let's head over to mike with a

look at traffic kari just that note. on that note, watch those local roadways trick or treaters start sometimes before the sun goes down. that transition time makes it tougher to see as you're getting home from work right now. getting to work 101 just shows that typical little bit of slowing starting here. north 101 around oakland road. if you go into areas like san jose's japantown, i know they closed off the entire street for trick or treaters, so that's some great local festivities as well. keep those in mind as options right now. still an option. eastbound 92 is accessible. that's the san mateo bridge, but since last night, they've had a closure of 92 at foster city boulevard. you get off and then back on the freeway. that will delay you a bit. should be about a little after seven when they can reopen that fully from the overnight truck fire. the rest of the bay. pretty standard pattern, including the east bay and the bill that the bay bridge back to you. all right. thanks, mike. 543 right now, a world without hiv and aids researchers say it's possible. ahead on today in the bay, we'll take a look at the big picture and what it would take to end the epidemic.

center. it will be in the upper 50s and about the same conditions as we go into late tonight. and dropping down to the low 50s with a mix of sun and clouds. as you can see, the rain is out of here. but we'll talk about the next storm system headed our way, coming up in a few minutes and you can see that the rain was here at the bay bridge toll plaza. some damp pavement. no big concern. the build is on as well with those metering lights and the slowing keeping the span moving smoothl. we'll talk about a crash that found in the south bay coming u. thanks, kari and mike. it is 546. the first reported case of hiv in this country was 43 years ago. and today it's not the death sentence it once was. currently, there are about 1.2 million people living with hiv in the united states. about 7000 in san francisco. and there are about 32,000 new cases a year across the country. but according to one hiv clinician, ending the epidemic is possible if you test positive and you're living with hiv, you can go on treatment. treatments are
5:48 am
extremely effective. you can live a long, healthy life as long as individuals who don't have hiv and people who are living with hiv and on treatment and suppress their virus don't transmit to their sexual partner. something we call you equals you or undetectable equals untransmittable. physicians say testing is the key and that once a month, antivirals provide significant protection. protection rather over daily antiviral pills. and now some insurers will cover the cost of the prep or pre-exposure prophylaxis. well, we have been saying all morning it is halloween and tonight you can actually dress up like a ghost or possibly have an encounter with one. we spoke with san francisco native mike rollins, and he is taking guests on a guided walking ghost tour of union square and nob hill tonight. those stops are going to include the fairmont hotel and flood mansion, both places with reported spiritual sightings. rollins says that he's encountered the

unexplainable a number of times during these walks. one of the guests on the tour took a photo and when she looked at that photo, there was an array of lights behind me in the camera that made the shape of a heart, and she told me that she took that photo. as i was telling the story about the security guard. the security guard died of a heart attack and him dying of a heart attack. and somehow this array of lights that shaped like a heart appeared behind me in the photo. yeah, i saw it there. did you see it? okay, so if you're interested, the tour kicks off tonight at eight. as of this morning, there were only 12 tickets available. if you want to claim a spot, you can visit sf ghosts .com, or just head over to walking tours. it's going to take about an hour and a half if you're interested. okay, well, here's something else for you fright. fairer house haunt is here. oh, yeah,
5:50 am
and today in the bay ginger conejero saab live for us in livermore. this is where the halloween spirit awaits. and ginger, this is something that started way before october even began. way before in the summer months. i mean, it's really a passion project that continues on. good morning to you guys. you know, this is not my favorite time of year. i am easily spooked, but i can appreciate the effort that it takes to create something like this, to create something like frightmare house haunt, because it is scary walking through. we're going to learn more about it from the owner of this house. we've got steve profumo here to tell us about his passion. hey, steve. oh. i'm sorry. okay. all right. that was a bad joke on halloween, steve. that's me trying to work off my nervous energy because it's halloween and we are in the den, and there are plenty of scary things here. talk to us about how you put this together and about the whole haunted house. so this is one of our popular rooms. we
5:51 am
haven't done it in five years, so we brought it back this year. so and we added a lot of detail to the fireplace. and actually people will be going into the fireplace to go to the next room. so i mean, talk about the detail in that, right? you've literally built this haunted house and you said that it started in august, but really, even planning for it began before planning starts the day after halloween for next year. so yeah, like i think about it all year long, we worked on a project from for like 4 or 5 months that was out front that we built. and so yeah, it's year round, so. well, we're going to show a little bit more of the details around here because you talk about just like how incredible this all can be. i mean this is this must cost. i know you don't want to divulge the exact numbers there, but talk to me about how it's grown and what you've invested in it. well, just add more every year. you know, different halloween props or build things and all the different items to build it and all that. so scary. yeah.
5:52 am
sorry. that is so that is so very scary there. what happened to him i don't know you know. so and the great thing is your kids aren't scared. you have actors that are part of this haunted house. it is not, you know, like this. we're not going to give it all away because people are going to come through. but talk to us that this is also a family affair. so yeah, my son and daughter scare and they my son's been scaring probably for like four years. he's 13 and my, my daughter is 11 and this is her second year scaring so and she's pretty good. she one saturday for the most scariest because we do a vote at the end for that. so but we'll have 10 to 15 actors throughout like scaring. so it's pretty big. so it's a big deal. but the best news is that it is free. admission is free for those that want to come through and enjoy halloween the frightmare way. but there is a suggested donation. talk to us. this is not all about scaring people. yeah, we do collect canned food for tri-valley food pantry. we've been doing that from the first year and so we collect food. we'll take some
5:53 am
donations up front too. so yeah, we're we're collecting now. so we've been doing it since kind of the decorations went up. so that's great. steve, i know we've got a lot more to explore in frightmare house haunt, but i'm doing so with a bated breath here. all right, steve, we'll see you in the next. see you in the next hour. you're giving back, but also taking away, taking away people's spirits. all right. we'll see you guys in the next hour. back to you. i like my spirit where it is. thank you. yeah, i do too. i do too. you better say some prayers or something. holy water on that girl. we'll see if anyone's there when we check it out. right. all right. everybody is in the halloween spirit. and the weather is going to cooperate. at least for tonight, right? yeah. and it was great to get some rain in parts of the bay area. let's talk about how much that we measured during the overnight hours. and there were spots in the santa cruz mountains that had almost a half inch of rainfall, as well as in parts of marin county. berkeley, you had 3/10 of an inch of rainfall. and in the north bay,
5:54 am
about a quarter inch, and mount saint helena and in boulder creek in the santa cruz mountains, about a quarter inch of rain there. and we are also looking at some other of the rainfall totals that we had measured. up to about a 10th of an inch is what we saw in san francisco and oakland. almost a quarter inch of rainfall there, but in spots in the tri-valley, it was not a whole lot. but the roads may still be wet as the system continues to push to the south and east. the rain is clearing the south bay as well as you're heading out. this morning. once again, the roads may still be a little damp, so just allow some extra time to get to work. it will be clearing out, drying out as we go throughout the day. sunshine and our highs headed for the upper 60s and much of the north bay. napa will hit a high of 66 degrees today. 64 in fremont and 66 in san jose going into tomorrow. there is not much of a change temperature wise, and we'll see that continue into saturday as well. a little bit on the cool side with another front moving in, and that's going to bring us another wave
5:55 am
of rain once again. late night early in the morning. first starting in the north bay by about 9 to 10:00. we're seeing it in santa rosa, moving into san rafael. and then right around midnight, san francisco, parts of the east bay and approaching the south bay. waking up on saturday morning looks like it's already in and out of here, and we will have a really nice saturday afternoon. after some of us measure another quarter inch of rainfall, it could be higher for parts of the east bay, with oakland about 3/10 of an inch of rain expected, and san jose could see another quarter inch of rainfall so we can leave the sprinklers off. we don't need those anymore as we get this rain. another wave coming in early saturday morning, and then we are headed for a warm up next week as we look forward to our election day. it's going to be in the mid 70s and sunshine and in san francisco it's going to be in the 60s with those showers on saturday morning. and mike, you're seeing the crowd growing at the bay bridge. yeah, really kicking in now sometimes on halloween we see folks heading
5:56 am
to the office a little earlier so that later morning commute might be more crowded as folks get into the office and try to get out a little closer toward trick or treating time. we'll follow the patterns right now. nothing unusual. we do have a spin out reported right around el portal at the onramp. so the freeway itself traditional slowing through richmond, bills for 37 and highway four here in toward 242, heading down toward pleasant hill and walnut creek. the bay bridge does have the backup, and we have slowing on the incline as well. a little slowing bills for hayward. no surprise for 880 and san jose north 101, easing off from the first burst of traffic. a note for highway 17. there was a spinout reported around the cats that clear from southbound 17. the slowing we see now as you head past redwood estates. it's probably due to the crash on the northbound side in the same are, there is a vehicle, a box truck that went over off the roadway and onto its side. so that's distraction, which is probably enough to slow folks as they head through the santa cruz mountains and do note there's been overnight rain, so there will be slicker roadways, especially in this area. back to
5:57 am
you. all right. thanks, mike. well, happening now, two of the bay area's leading lawmakers are celebrating a major makeover of the east bay. 680 traffic corridor. congressman mark desaulnier recently won $166 million in federal funding. that's to cover the cost of the high tech ramp renovation. this is between highway 24 and highway 242. later today, he and fellow house lawmaker nancy pelosi will hold a virtual event to lay out the revamping plans. 556 right now, san francisco's forced out of their home overnight ahead at 6:00. new details on an overnight fire which ripped through their building. plus, chaos in la after the dodgers win the world series. the insane celebrations going on into the early morning hours, you have to see to believe. and don't forget nbc bay area streams 24/7. you can watch us whenever you like on roku or other streaming platforms. a lot more news ahead on t
