5:02 am
throughout the day, we are going to see those temperatures go from upper 40s to upper 50s. at 10:00, and then a gradual warm up heading into the afternoon, where temperatures are back to what we yesterday with upper 60s. it will be 66 in novato and 68 degrees in concord. and livermore, 66 degrees. then tomorrow we're seeing more of the same weather. after starting out with some clouds and the showers clearing, we are going to have a very nice saturday afternoon. we'll talk about what's ahead with that rain coming in tonight in just a few minutes, but mike, starting with the wrong-way driver on 101. ye, chp has been very busy overnight. we're looking at. actually, they just cleared this scene south 101 for 90 minutes. we had 101 fully or partially closed. as you travel south through windsor. just reopened all lanes. the traffic flows very nicely. there's a little fog in the area, so watch in patches. but that's pretty far north for most of our viewers. looking at the rest of the bay, what we're looking over here toward northbound 880 right around maori. we do have a cras.

the bay area public health department and alameda contra costa, santa clara, san mateo and napa counties have all issued similar orders for hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other places that provide health care. this is all to prevent the spread of covid during the cold and flu season. i spoke with ucsf infectious disease specialist dr. peter chin-hong. he points out that many doctors and nurses already wear masks. they might be some people who worry that it's taking away their agency. but again, the focus is not on the person you know, your average person in the community. the focus is really on protecting people who are vulnerable. the mask mandate goes into effect today and will continue through the end of march or april of next year. a south bay cemetery this year is taking extra steps for dia de los muertos. after a tense clash with families last year. police ended up getting involved when dozens of families
5:09 am
were locked out of oak hill cemetery in west san jose. it all started when guards had to intervene in the property, closed early for security reasons. fast forward to this year, families and local activists are working with the cemetery to extend the hours with extra security. the oak hill cemetery did agree, which is great. we really appreciate it and we just hope to continue this without any issues moving forward, which i believe that, you know, as a community that that and, you know, a relationship with the cemetery and maintaining that communication, we can make that happen. the cemetery this year is allowing families to stay on the property until 8 p.m. halloween. now in the books. but the holiday brought out more than just trick or treaters. want to show you the scene for nightmare on front street celebration in san francisco last night. the block party packed the city's financial district. 2024 marked the first halloween event in the city's

entertainment zone. businesses were hoping for a boom in sales heading into last night. the co-owner of one restaurant says the party was, quote, a game changer in downtown san francisco. we don't have quite the people in the offices like we used to. so parties like this, where people want to come downtown and bring people downtown and we can make sales because everybody wants to drink outside on this beautiful night for halloween is awesome. after oktoberfest in september, some bars in san francisco reported sales were up 1,500%. wow. that's huge. that's a lot of people post online. they were there last night. yeah, over the same weekend in 2023. they had that much growth that. look at that. fun times there. all right. let's take a live look for a lot of those folks are probably asleep right now as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge from our sutro tower camera. meteorologist kari hall monitoring that. okay, kari, i'm looking at your monitor there. do i see some rain coming our way? yes. we are going to see another wave of showers coming in, arriving late tonight as this next storm system quickly moves through. so as we take a
5:11 am
look at the wide view, there is a very active storm pattern out there in the pacific. and as we go into the next few days, we will see at least a couple more rounds of rain for tonight. it arrives in the north bay starting at about 630 7:00, right around dinnertime, and then shortly after dinner into late this evening. if you're heading out around san francisco, parts of the east bay, we will see that wave of rain coming in. still, some lingering showers into early tomorrow morning. but then clearing out for tomorrow and shaping up to be a very nice weekend. temperature wise, we're a little bit lower than what's normal for november 1st. up to 64. in fremont, 66 in martinez and a lot of mid 60s for much of the north bay. so we'll get a look at what's ahead coming up in a few minutes. mike, if you do have to fill up the gas tank, where are the prices? a little bit lower. pick some key spots here. concord is still king with the best price in the bay. top number here is the lowest. we have 369 at bond fair market on
5:12 am
willow pass road. it's a new name we add to that 369 list. saratoga has won in the best for the south bay surprise. 395 at fuel stop on saratoga. sunnyvale road in the middle here, and then in the north bay for your north bay getaway. your lowest fill up is 399 in vallejo at sinclair on fairgrounds drive. you can check those prices. you can check your locations gasbuddy.com. let's check those roads. we still have the south bay activity. i told you, southbound 280. there is a traffic break. as folks were heading south down in toward meridian that never showed any more slowing. after the initial traffic break. north 101 at old bay shore. let's show you that on the map with an arrow, and that will have a crash on the shoulder. but there's a live wire reported on the scene. i'm tracking that pg&e may have to arrive. there may be a lane closed when they do. there's only one lane open as folks are traveling north on 880 right by maori. a crash there must be some debris. i don't have a lot of detail, but you see, the slowing back to you. all right. thanks, mike. now, new warning

about it. check, check and check. this morning da krasner was here to testify. elon musk didn't show. elon musk did not show up to a court ordered appearance in philadelphia yesterday, but the judge found in his favor anyway. the philly prosecutor had moved to stop musk from giving away $1 million a day to voters in pennsylvania for signing a petition saying that violated state law. the judge said he would allow musk to continue with the checks while the system decided whether the question should be in state or federal court. so this will all be irrelevant come tuesday. so musk really wins this one. remember this guy? this is brad ratzenberger, secretary of state of georgia. he's in charge of elections. there he is once again, warning about fake claims of cheating, particularly fake videos of actors pretending to be haitians voting in the election. all fake, obviously fake. says ratzenberger. but promoted on x, the old twitter.
5:19 am
the fake video retweeted and promoted with an official by the with the national committee, the republican national committee, asking, have you all seen this? and then the secretary of state's office saying, no reasonable person would retweet this ridiculously obvious lie. so again, social media is full of these sorts of things, and they're trying to stamp it as fast as they can. but it's just going so fast. going so fast, right? yeah. which would be interesting as ai progresses as well. how real everything starts to look. all right. thanks, scott. you bet. well, striking workers at boeing will vote monday on a new contract offer. the deal includes a 38% pay hike over four years and a larger signing bonus. the latest offer is being endorsed by union leaders, who told members they've extracted all they could from the company. the group, made up of more than 33,000 factory workers, rejected two previous officers offers. it comes at a critical time for boeing, which announced this week it plans to raise up to $24

billion to try to shore up its finances. well, trending this morning, let's get ready to rumble. tickets on sale for wrestlemania 41 in las vegas. you can get them right now. so look, we actually caught up with bianca belair. she is really hoping that she, as well as her wrestling partner, can defend their women's tag team title. belair, a former college track star, says that the wwe really is perfect match for her competitive and creative nature. i love stepping into the ring and knowing that what i have on i've made or customized. when i watch, when i see myself in a video game, when i see my action figure, that's gear that i made with my own hands. and so i like to. i take a lot of pride in that. when you look at her, you don't think she's just going to body slam you, right? it looks so nice. wrestlemania 41 isn't until next april over at allegiant stadium in las vegas, but tickets do go on sale today on ticketmaster.com. but brace yourself, presale tickets ringside are thousands of

dollars each. whoa! wow. maybe we should register. we could do, like, maybe a coed team. you know, or. i mean, i'm happy to stand on the side and report how scary we to tag me and tag me. i'm going. you know, these days, my knee hurts. i'm just like, i heard it pop before. yeah. not doing all that. yeah. we'll sit way up on top. we'll yell really loud for you. yeah. all right. today, december 1st. you guys all right? we're starting out a new month and same weather. it's cool again as you're heading out dublin now. 42 degrees. it's 48, in palo alto and 49 in san jose. a cool start. more clouds coming in and the next round of rain with another cold front is making its way across the state. so as we get a look at the wide view, what's happening out there in the pacific, we have the area of low pressure out there in the gulf of alaska that's starting
5:22 am
to swoop on down with some rain across the pacific northwest. here at home, we're going to see a mix of sun and clouds. temperatures today back into the mid to upper 60s. and we're also looking at a lot of upper seconds in much of the east bay. antioch today, 68 degrees and also 68 in hayward. it will be partly to mostly cloudy for the coast into the peninsula. redwood city 67 for the high today and 66 in the mission district. the outer sunset today 61 degrees and upper 60s for the north bay from napa to santa rosa 66 degrees. and then the rain coming in late tonight. we're right at around dinner time or a late dinner for calistoga, santa rosa. you're going to see that rain arriving with some breezy winds, and it's later on tonight for the east bay. with that rain hitting the roof as you're trying to wind down from the workweek. we are going to see, though, clearing out for saturday. so whatever plans you have out there, it's looking great for that. and during that quick wave of rain we will see coming in this
5:23 am
evening, we're looking at about a quarter to closer to a half inch of rain in some spots. so that's a pretty good soaking, especially with the system moving through so fast. and then on sunday we fall back. setting our clock back one hour in the morning gives us an extra hour of sleep, but also extra nice weather to enjoy throughout the day. and we'll see that weather continue through next week with highs in the mid 70s. mike, you're seeing those chp reports getting very active. yeah, they were busy overnight. and this morning i think a lot of folks might have stayed up a little late. and so there's a lot of more cars. i saw more cars on the roadway anyway. i don't know about what you saw, folks, but we do see this slowing right here. northbound 880. only the slow lane remains open at mallory. there was an earlier crash then not a lot of detail, but must have been some debris and must still be some activity. again, only the slow lane is open, so activity in the shoulder and the center divide and those left lanes. once you pass north of there, there's another crash approach 92, but no slowing approaches there. we do see those sensors with highway 37 friday has a lighter

san francisco is in crisis and we need real experienced leadership.

we need mark farrell. our interim mayor who got things done. who showed we can clear tent encampments, fight crime, and address the drug crisis. who will make the tough choices for our city's future. unsafe right now at 530. a terrifying encounter for a united airlines passenger after he was attacked as he slept. the reason people on the plane say they felt unsafe in the way the airlines handled the situation well, we can now measure it in hours, for days, 96 hours until the presidential election. hillary really needs reasons to come together that unite the entire community. a festival celebrating today's day of the dead holiday, helping the south bay community heal from loss. we'll show you how la ofrenda is offering more than just hope. this is today in the bay. here we go friday morning. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. let's get you started the day with that forecast. a friday forecast is always a nice one, no matter how
5:32 am
you look at it. kari. yeah, we're just trying to get on through this day so we can get some rest. it's going to be the weekend where we do get an extra hour of sleep with the time change, and we're also going to see some changes in our weather. so we're starting out cool this morning, most of us in the 40s and low 50s. we are down to now 40 in sonoma and santa rosa. we may dip into the upper 30s there. it's 41 in danville and it's in the upper 40s for san jose. fremont 49 as you're heading out. partly to mostly cloudy, and we'll see those temperatures gradually warming up as we head for mid 60s. and it's going to be just as nice tomorrow with a little rain in between. so i'll have more on that. mike, you were warning us about traffic in fremont and it's actually getting worse because there's more volume coming into just one lane. open north 880 at mallory avenue. an earlier crash just has a little detail in the chp report saying only the slow lane is open and maybe some debris in the area. clearly, there's still something going on in lanes north. 880 is jammed up. if you're coming over from 680, it's a little bit

longer, though. if you take mission to that major surface street, be very careful as you hit the surface streets instead of the freeways there. we're looking over at the rest of the bay and no unusual sensors, but a lot of activity. back to you. thanks, mike. well, a really shocking and violent attack on a cross country flight from sfo. a passenger was attacked as he slept. it happened earlier this week on a united flight to washington dulles. today in the bay ginger conejero saab is live for us over at sfo this morning. and ginger days later. and it's still really unclear why this even happened. that's right. unfortunately. so marcus and laura, a witness on the flight, another passenger says she is still in the dark as to why the suspect in this attack targeted the other passenger. she says, according to texts from the victim, he had never seen or even met his attacker prior to that flight. the united flight left san francisco international. it was headed to dulles airport on monday when a couple of hours in a violent and
5:34 am
unprovoked attack unexpectedly unfolded. he was just violently attacking with his fists. the passenger that was directly in the seat in front of me. according to an fbi affidavit, passenger everett nelson had just left the lavatory when he physically attacked a sleeping male passenger, punching him repeatedly in the face and head until blood was drawn. the witness that is speaking out about what she saw. sandhya gupta says another passenger restrained the attacker while she and another woman went to help the victim, who is deaf and nonverbal. the victim had gashes on his face. he had black eyes. he had bruises all over his face. there was blood spatter. the normal protocol is to find an airport as quickly as you can to get on the ground. as i said, first, for first aid for the victim, and second, to get the other person in custody. but the

witness says instead of restraining the attacker, the flight crew took him to the front of the plane, where a crew member watched over him. she says passengers, including the victim, were on edge as they flew for another three hours, headed to dulles now. in a statement, united says thanks to the quick action of our crew and customers, one passenger was restrained after becoming physically aggressive toward another customer. the flight landed safely and was met by paramedics and local law enforcement, and as of now, we know that the faa is looking into this flight as well as the that fbi affidavit that details what happened on that flight. really shocking and unprovoked attack here. marcus and laura. yeah. so disturbing. exactly. out of nowhere. thank you very much, ginger, for the latest. it is 535 right now. and new overnight uc berkeley police investigating a reported sexual battery on campus. investigators say the incident took place

actually created a situation in america where now 1 in 3 women lives in a trump abortion banned state and has legal restrictions on the right, she rightly should have to make decisions about her own body. polling shows men likely favor trump while doubting harris. women much less likely to favor trump supporting harris. trump pushing back after harris supporter mark cuban said on the tv show the view that trump is never around strong, intelligent women. cuban later said of his statement, quote, it didn't get out exactly the way i thought it did, so i apologize to anyone who felt slighted. trump once again sat down with former fox news anchor tucker carlson, this time in arizona, where he suggested that liz cheney should have to go fight a war, face rifles. he said, because she supported sending in american troops to harm's way. and the trump campaign filed a lawsuit against cbs for its interview with kamala harris on

morning, overlooking walnut creek in the east bay. this morning. okay, first friday in november. friday after halloween. it's always kind of a tiresome one. yeah, we're going to go home, take a nap, and then we can head out to oakland first fridays, where we will have to watch out for some rain. and as that gets started, people are out and about. you'll want to make sure you have an umbrella or they may be packing up to leave because we are going to see that rain coming in around 7 to 8:00 and getting heavier by 9:00 later tonight. and we also have diwali by the bay that will be happening tomorrow. now, if you're in tiburon, it's going to be a nice event. the weather is clearing out and temperatures will be in the mid 60s with a mix of sun and clouds, a little bit cool there. and then tomorrow night we've got the sharks game and it starts out with some mid 50s and there will be a mostly clear sky and we'll have to wear the jacket, but at least we can leave the umbrella at home. and then in redwood city on sunday there's the dia

de los muertos happening later in the evening. so it starts out with some gusty winds and temperatures in the low 70s, and will drop it down to the mid 60s at 7:00 and lower 60s by 9 to 10:00. and then looking at oakland's dia de los muertos, that will be happening there. it will be in the upper 50s at 10 a.m. and going in throughout the afternoon. lots of sunshine. but once again, it will be breezy as our highs head for the low 70s. 70s will be what we'll see for most of the bay area by the end of the weekend. so for sonoma valley, if you're going there this evening, once again, heads up that the rain will be coming in right at about dinner time. and then by tomorrow it's in the upper 60s and mostly sunny and breezy, but slightly warmer on sunday. going to lake tahoe this weekend. make sure you pack extra layers. look at how cold it will be in the mornings from upper 20s for tomorrow morning to seeing even some teens, but at least those highs will recover nicely. reaching into

the 40s. and mike, you're still watching closely those speed sensors. yeah, watching for any sign of some issues through fremont. there's a little bit of a improvement for those sensors and chp did say one of their cruisers cleared from northbound 880 approaching mallory avenue. the latest update still says only the slow lane is open, but that might mean some improvement over the next few minutes. we'll track that. that's unusually slow out of the south bay, heading up toward the dumbarton bridge. outside of that, no other slow sensors. there are a lot of active incidents still going on around the bay, so do be careful, but give me a chance to tell you what's going on over the weekend. starting tonight, partial closure for 101 between san mateo and palo alto. this stretch. you know, they have those weekend work going on in the express lane area. that will happen again this weekend. and a big project you've probably seen commercials for that over our air. this is the rio vista bridge they're talking about when that's closed. that's the only way for highway 12 to either side through rio vista. if that is where you travel, know that you're going to have that big, long alternate route which takes you over here across the benecia bridge and around
5:43 am
through the county. but if you don't travel through vista, you're fine. highway 37 as your typical later start for a friday. that's the only slowing we see. oh, there we go. the crew is heading toward that bridge from san rafael in toward richmond, back to you. thank you mike. 542 this morning, a clash over popular south bay park. ahead for you this morning on today in the bay. the nonprofit at risk of eviction. and the reason the city is taking actio. and today is november 1st. dia de los muertos, day of the dead. we'll take a look at the tradition that looks back on our loved one's past, and we'll show you how you can celebrate their lives around the bay area. but first, another edition of our school shoutout series. hello, bay area, this is mrs. mahesh, our third grade stratford pleasanton lions have a message for you. good morning, bay area. yay! look at those shiny little faces. and don't forget, you can

chilly morning. mostly clear, but we will see a few more clouds coming in as we go throughout the day and look for a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures headed for the upper 60s here, and we'll have
5:47 am
some rain coming in later on tonight, so we'll time it out for all of our microclimates coming up. and here's fremont. the live look shows those taillights moving very smoothly just heading north of tesla. but as you approach mallory, there's a lot of slowing. only one lane open still report chp has an earlier crash leaves activity there. we'll talk about the progress as i see it coming up. state wildlife leaders are monitoring an invasive mussel just located in northern california. for the first time. they discovered what is known as freshwater golden mussels at the port of stockton last month. now, they also recently found this in merced county, but they're native to rivers in asia. the mussels can alter water quality through aggressive filter feeding. they also can threaten native species, and they are competing. they are competing for those essential nutrients there. so state officials, they are really trying to mitigate any potential spread. one of san jose's most popular parks is at the center
5:48 am
of a spat this morning. emma prusch farm park, run by the city of san jose, a community garden is run by its namesake foundation. a viral social media post claimed that organization was being evicted. the city now says the park itself is not in any danger. however, it is confirming problems with the nonprofit. the city says it hasn't had a formal agreement with them in years. san jose finally ended negotiations with them over unresolved issues. no word on what it means for the garden. well, it sounds like buster posey has found his second in command. usa today reports that the giants today will announce a new general manager, and they are apparently hiring from within. usa today reports that zach minasian will take over after previously serving as the giants vp of professional scouting. his appointment will also make history. his brother perry serves as the anaheim angels general manager, and brothers have never been baseball gm's at
5:49 am
the same time. so pretty cool there, right? the giants job opened recently. this is after posey was hired as president of operations in late september. well, you can't blame giants fans if they decide today to avoid following most of baseball's programing and news sites. that's because the dodgers world series victory parade will likely dominate the coverage starting at 11:00 this morning. people already waiting, those fans lining up along the parade route. this is the dodgers second world series win in five seasons after beating the yankees four games to one. the last time they won back in 2020. you'll recall the pandemic was in full swing. well, today is the dia de los muertos, a day of the dead latin american holiday celebration celebrating loved ones who have passed. it celebrated on november 1st and second. while some of the imagery includes skulls and skeletons, it's far from a different version of halloween. today in the bay's kris sanchez
5:50 am
joining us live this morning. she has a closer look at this celebration. kris. well hi there marcus. and laura. so dia de los muertos has really grown in popularity beyond our latin american community. so chances are you have seen an altar like this one here. this one celebrates the loved ones of our colleagues here at nbc bay area and telemundo 48, who have passed before. according to the tradition, the gates of heaven on this day open up so that spirits can come back and celebrate with their families. earthside once again. now there has been a celebration going on in gilroy, and that is where we are going to take you now. it's lofgren. it's a relatively new festival that celebrates dia de los muertos and also helps to fill a void the community's felt since the mass shooting at the gilroy garlic festival in 2019, when three people were killed. the festival also focuses on the living, though gathering 60 community partners for wellness fair in order to help the
5:51 am
community continue to heal. just learning to embrace life after garlic festival. i feel like that's part of what gilroy is doing. looking for reasons to come together as a community, and the festival has really helped to fill that void. now, in its first year, la ofrenda also helped with gilroy's economic recovery, drawing 8000 attendees and delivering a $315,000 economic impact. this year, they say they are expecting as many as 12,000 people. redwood city will also be celebrating dia de los muertos big with altars and performances at courthouse square, and there will also be catrina face painting. you've probably seen it. the colorful and detailed makeup, which presents these represents the celebration of death, but also the beauty of life. so lofgren the festival in gilroy is tomorrow, saturday, november 2nd
5:52 am
in san francisco. you can celebrate in the outer sunset today with ballet folklorico and ofrenda, making san francisco also hosting the festival of altars at potrero del sol park and that's tomorrow from eight in the morning all the way to 10:00 at night. and the redwood city celebration is at courthouse square. that is on sunday afternoon and evening. and while this holiday goes back with the cempasuchil, the marigold and the sugar skulls, it goes back 3000 years. the holiday has really grown in popularity here in the u.s. and during the chicano movement of the 70s and 80s in san jose, kris sanchez, nbc, bay area news. i agree, i feel like it's so much more prevalent or people understand, right? people making an effort to understand each other's cultures. exactly. and it's nice how we can always look back for all these cultures, look back at how we got here, and then take those memories moving forward. yeah, a lot of a lot of celebrations over the
5:53 am
three days, all halloween, all halloween, all hallow's eve, which is halloween today is all saints day and tomorrow's all souls day. there you have it. and we have diwali kicking off this weekend. celebration of light over darkness. a lot going on. yeah. celebrate each other's cultures, isn't it? yeah. it's great. all right, so we're going to be celebrating this weekend. also the nice weather. and if you're going to the lofgren tomorrow in gilroy, the rain is in and out of here. so we are starting out with temperatures in the low 60s. it's going to be a nice cool day with sunshine. really perfect weather conditions. as we take a look at today's highs, it's about the same mostly upper 60s what we've seen throughout the week in east san jose. look for a high of 68 degrees and 67 in cupertino for the east bay. we're up to 68 and 66 in pleasanton and in fremont, 64 degrees in hayward. today, 68 now near the coast. it's in the lower 60s. breezy and mostly cloudy and in palo alto, 68 for that high today. and ingleside
5:54 am
district will be in the low 60s for today. and mid 60s for the north bay. now tomorrow we will have this system once again clearing the bay area. but we are seeing that rain approaching and moving through the pacific northwest as we speak. so let's time it out in the north bay. ukiah sees that rain moving into calistoga right around dinner time and approaching san rafael at seven. this evening, into san francisco by 9 to 10:00, and then into the east bay and moving into san jose by 10 to 11:00. tonight, as we wake up tomorrow morning, the sky is already clear and we will have a nice sunny day and more of the same temperatures like what we're seeing for this afternoon. and rainfall totals may reach about a quarter inch for many spots. for oakland, it's about 3/10 of an inch of rain expected, possibly a half inch of rain in fremont and about a 10th of an inch of rain possible in san jose. and for the cierra, if you're going there this weekend, we already have a
5:55 am
winter weather advisory in effect with about 1 to 4in of snow. we're expecting this weekend, most of that coming overnight. and then on sunday morning we will be falling back, setting our clocks back one hour, getting that extra hour of sleep which will be much needed after staying up so late last night. and we're going to see temperatures warming up into the low 70s, and next week, it's going to be nice. a lot of sunshine, cool mornings, and mild afternoons. san francisco will see that rain. also coming in late this evening, but the rest of the weekend is looking dry and temperatures warming up with highs in the low 70s. and we're also looking forward to nice and mild start to november. no big storms on the horizon. and mike, how's this friday after halloween shaping up for traffic? you know we have the metering lights on, but this is the traffic flow still moving very nicely and our visible traffic approaching the toll plaza. so no backup yet on this side of the toll plaza itself. that means lighter volume and maybe a halloween hangover for some of those folks who are
5:56 am
heading out. but there was and has been still a lot of activity on the chp report. so we'll track a number of incidents, but we're only going to talk about the slower sensors where they're showing up for highway 37, highway four behind me. look at that. just one little bit of brake tapping, barely any slowing, nothing to concern yourself with. out of concord and in toward walnut creek, the incline shows the bill, but again, the backup. we didn't see any visible, even though the metering lights are on. this is the area that's been showing a lot of slowing over the morning. the last five minutes has seen a lot of improvement. i think despite the chp report, they have actually cleared from the area north. 880 at maori we had reports of only one lane open for all since early this morning. for a couple of hours. things have really improved over the last few minutes, traveling north and toward the dumbarton bridge out of the south bay south 280. we had a disabled vehicle reported at meridian. then there was an early traffic wreck about 5:00, but it's still on the report that there may be activity on the shoulder. you see no slowing counter commute northbound for your commute through san jose. lighter for this friday, in fact, even
5:57 am
lighter than a typical friday. but right around oakland road, there's right around old bay shore. there's still activity with live wires there waiting for pg&e to take care of that from an earlier crash. back to you. thanks, mike. well, happening now. today is a landmark day for daca recipients. for the first time, they're able to sign up for health coverage under the affordable care act. the change coincides with the first day of this year's open enrollment. more than half a million so-called dreamers will now be eligible for coverage. the pandemic may be over, but mask mandates are returning. ahead at 6:00, the bay area county bringing back the requirement and where you'll be expected to wear them for weeks to come. plus, locked out on the day of the dead after a tense clash last year, the way a south bay cemetery is responding this weekend to ensure families get to spend time with their loved ones. and don't forget nbc bay area streams 24/7. you can watch us whenever you'd like on roku or other streaming platforms. a lot more news ahead on this friday morning. first day of november. you're watching today
