"early today" starts right now. good morning, glad you're up early with me. i'm frances rivera. election day has arrived. voters will make their voices heard in this historic election. as the returns come in, former president trump will be at a watch party in florida, while vice president harris will hold an event at her alma mater, howard university. the tiny town of dixville notch carried on their tradition of voting at midnight. the results were tied, 3-3. in their final messages to voters, the candidates stressed how choice t how close this race could be. >> the race ain't over yet, and we must finish strong. and this could be, this could be one of the closest races in history. >> i can't tell you yet, but i mean, we're certainly on the two or three yard line.

news. security is ramping up today in washington, d.c. for the election. the secret service telling us fencing and other security measures were installed around the white house, the vice president's home and the palm beach convention center where trump will host his watch party today. even businesses in downtown d.c. have boarded up their windows ahead of today. >> i do feel a little bit of unease, just in general. i think everybody's just a little bit on edge regardless of where you fall politically. and i think people are just gogo are in a wait and see kind of mode. >> the police chief says this is a full activation week, meaning all workers will be working 12 hours. a pennsylvania judge has ruled in favor of elon musk's $1 million a day voter sweepstakes saying it can continue until today's election. a democratingc d.a. had asked f the sweepstakes to be shut down, calling it a scam. the judge made the ruling after

musk's lawyers said the winners are paid spokes people and not selected by chance. he had earlier said the winners were chosen randomly. western intelligence agency the believe russia is behind two recent attempts to smuggle explosives onto cargo planes and may be targeting planes bound for the u.s. according to a western security official, in july, russia sent two incendiary devices to dhl logistics hubs in germany and the uk in a sabotage plan to possibly start fires aboard planes headed to north mercury. polish authorities have arrested four people and are searching for two more in connection with the case. all with ties to russia. russia has rejected allegations that it is orchestrating any sabotage campaign in europe. federal agents have arrested a tennessee man with ties to white nationalist groups who they say had plans to attack a national power grid.

32,000 boeing machinists are get back to work. their union signed off on a new contract late last night, ending their seven-week strike. for details on the agreement, let's get straight to cnbc's karen gilchrist. good morning, karen. >> good morning, frances. you asked yesterday whether we could expect to see a conclusion to this long, drawn-out strike, the costliest in the u.s. for 25 years. and now we have it. unionized boeing workers voted in favor on monday of a new contract. and this brings to a close more than seven weeks of strikes. so members voted 59% in favor of this new deal, which will grant them a 38% pay raise over the next four years as well as a $12,000 bonus and new pension benefits. now it is the third deal that they've voted on after rejecting the first two. and it's slightly shy of the 40% pay raise that unions have

trickle in. our richard lui is here in the studio with us. good morning. what states should we be watching here on election night? >> nerves is the word. but hopefully with this plan in front of us, it will be a little less nervous on this. that's the way we want to present that to you. watch these seven core battleground states. these are the ones, where they go, so goes the election. our political unit is saying. first up to watch is georgia. georgia closes its polls at 7:00 p.m. eastern. networks might have some early data from there. and five other states. next, watch 7:30 p.m. that's when north carolina closes its polls. we could get some early indications here of how the south is leaning that may come from that state and georgia as well. up next for you, 8:00 p.m. eastern, pennsylvania closes. we've been talking about pennsylvania for months. that is the first state to give us a hint of the midwestern wave, if there is going to be

one. and georgia expects to have, at that time, 8:00 p.m., 75% of its vote counted at that time. so they say. okay. we're halfway there. let's take you to 9:00 p.m. polls close in arizona. as well as wisconsin and michigan. what we expect here at this time, we'll see a good number of votes coming from what is the midwest wall. and which way it's leaning. finally for you, we'll look at nevada. it closes at 10:00 p.m. eastern time. it could take days, though, here, before that state is called, because mail-in ballots are, that are postmarked by election day are also included in the count. almost half of the ballots in the last election were mail-in so all in all, this year could be on the faster side. many states, by the way, upgrading their voting processes and technology for early and election day voting, so many people are hoping on that. that is what steve kornacki was actually telling us, that
