might have a major shakeup in the east bay with the recall of oakland mayor sheng thao. the current numbers are still too close to call, but 65% of voters are supporting the removal of tao from office, 35% are in opposition, and in alameda county, voters are deciding whether to recall district attorney pamela price. that race is still too close to be called, but voters as well seem to be leaning toward removing her from office. at 459, we are moving you forward as these results come in for the very latest numbers 24/7, head to nbcbayarea.com and stay tuned for today in the bay, which begins right now. we hope you have a great wednesday.
5:01 am
across the nation who have always been the heart and soul of this really great movement. we've been through so much together, and today you showed up in record numbers to deliver a victory right now on today in the bay. donald trump is america's 47th president elect, claiming victory even before securing it overnight. we have republican reaction to this historic outcome. a different scene in washington where the celebration never arrived for kamala harris. she chose not to speak to supporters at her watch party while here at home. i absolutely do believe that my administration has done what we can, receiving and inheriting all of these issues. oakland's mayor, involved in one of two high profile east bay, recalls the other targets alameda county's district attorney. we are closely monitoring what may turn into a shakeup in leadership and what would then come next. across the bay, the race for san francisco mayor is extremely tight and way too early to call the impressive
5:02 am
voter support so far for philanthropist daniel lurie and statewide, from minimum wage to cracking down on crime, where the proposition races stand this morning, we are moving you forward with all your election results. this is today in the bay. good wednesday morning i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. well, after a grueling race, donald trump makes history as he wins the race for the white house. for a second time. here is a look at where things stand. this morning. as of right now, donald trump has 276 electoral votes, making him the winner. key wins for the president elect where three battleground states georgia, north carolina and pennsylvania. the early victories put him within striking distance throughout the night, prompting him to declare victory late last night in west palm beach, florida. this was a movement like nobody's ever seen
5:03 am
before, and frankly, this was i believe, the greatest political movement of all time. there's never been anything like this in this country. and maybe beyond. and now it's going to reach a new level of importance because we're going to help our country heal. we're going to help our country heal. we have a country that needs help and every citizen, i will fight for you, for your family and your future. every single day. i will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body. well, back here in the bay area, republicans spent the night tracking the results at the gop watch party in san francisco's north beach neighborhood. cheers. of course, ringing out each time a state was called for. the former president. now, voters here say that they favor
5:04 am
trump's approach to the economy, immigration and crime. republicans only make up about 7% of registered voters in san francisco. but people at the event say that they are gaining more traction in local races and see this as a step in building up a more competitive republican party here in california. now, who we did not hear from was vice president kamala harris. last night, we saw this with hillary clinton in 2016, and harris followed suit by calling off her watch party. as we look live at the white house, we're now learning the vice president is expected to address the nation later today. today, in the bay's damian trujillo is in washington, d.c, following the latest developments. well, staffers told us to return today here to howard university. and so here we are. it's unclear what time kamala harris will address the nation. that's the words of the campaign staffer who came out and said that she would be addressing the nation today. so we are back here to await that speech by kamala harris. but it was quite bizarre
5:05 am
yesterday, last night at about, actually this morning at around 1 a.m, when a staffer came out and said that the vice president, kamala harris, would not be speaking here tonight at 1 a.m. eastern time. that is that would be 10:10 p.m. your time on the west coast. the staffer came out and said that harris would not be speaking. they began to leave in droves, thousands of them. and they were understandably quite disappointed. the only sighting of the vice president yesterday was in the afternoon, when she made a surprise visit to the dnc headquarters, where volunteers were phone banking. but this morning a lot of deflated supporters here at howard university, as the announcement was made that she would not be speaking. we still have votes to count. we still have states that have not been called yet. we will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has
5:06 am
spoken so you won't hear from the vice president tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow. she will be back here tomorrow to address not only the eshoo family, not only to address our supporters, but to address the nation. so we are here this morning awaiting to see what the vice president, kamala harris, will say, presumably at the same spot where she was supposed to give her speech last night. instead, she's going to address the nation today. that's the latest from washington, d.c. i'm damian trujillo today in the bay. thank you very much, damian. 505 right now in the east bay, voters appear to have been overwhelming in their decision to oust the mayor of oakland and the alameda county district attorney today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from outside the east county hall of justice in dublin with the latest results there. good morning. bob. good morning to you, laura. voters here in the east bay appear to be ready to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price, who has
5:07 am
an office behind me here at the east county hall of justice in dublin. as you can see on your screen, with 39% of the vote being reported, the ap reports that voters are recommending her recall from office by a margin of 65 to 35%. this is how voters reacted last night to that first batch of results. you can hear there was a lot of cheering and support of the recall. the group save save alameda for everyone expressed their excitement last night over the early returns, showing the yes on the recall with a sizable lead. you know, we want to thank all of the citizens of alameda county as a whole that understood what we were talking about, that understood that people were being hurt and they went out and
5:08 am
they voted. and it's not done. but we see victory, and we are so glad that we have made the step to making alameda county a safer place for everybody. if the da is recalled, the county supervisors will select an interim da to serve until the scheduled election in 2026. and here are the latest numbers in the recall effort of oakland mayor sheng thao. with 36% of precincts reporting, the mayor is losing by 65% of voters wanting her out, compared to 35% who want her to stay. earlier last night, the mayor spoke to nbc bay area's velena jones. the mayor said in spite of those early results, she's optimistic she can still keep her job. i absolutely do believe that my administration has done what we can receiving and inheriting all of these issues, right. let's be reminded that under the previous
5:09 am
administration, we lost the warriors. we lost the raiders. you know, when i came in the a's were already out, you know, leaving the city of oakland. there wasn't much that i could have done about that. but at the end of the day, i don't know. and i can't remember the last time we had zero homicides in the city of oakland and so i'm really proud of the work that we are doing. we know that it works again. i've been in office for less than two years, and we are already turning this city aroun. supporters for mayor schor have called the efforts to recall her undemocratic, and they argue big money interest is funding those efforts. those in favor of the recall blame mayor schor for high crime rates, businesses leaving and the firing of former police chief leronne armstrong. they also hold her responsible for a huge budget deficit that could lead to cuts to public safety. reporting live here in dublin, bob redell today in the bay. the wrap up of everything in the east bay. thank you bob. we are following developing news
5:10 am
this morning. several bay area communities are in the dark. customers in lake sonoma, napa and solano counties had their power turned off because of high winds. i want to take a look at this map for you this morning. you can see all of the purple there. those are all of the customers affected by the power safety. shut off. meteorologist kari hall, of course, tracking those strong winds. how are we now, kari? yeah, a lot of us in the valleys are not feeling as much of a high wind that we're seeing in some of the upper elevations. so psp s has now gone into effect, and there is a warning for all of these counties. and the red flag warning continues until 7:00 tomorrow morning. so we're still in with the fire danger, the low humidity and the gusty winds. we take a look at what we're feeling right now. san francisco at a 25 mile per hour wind gust. but look at mount diablo. it's at 42 right now, and even stronger from mount saint helena at 78mph. so these winds are roaring in the upper elevations, while a lot of the valleys are
5:11 am
just getting a light breeze. and those kind of conditions will be what we'll see over the next several hours. looking at our temperatures for today, we're headed back to the low 60s, upper 60s, low 70s. i should say, as our high in martinez will top out at 71 degrees 75 in santa rosa. and mike, you've been watching the roads this morning. any issues popping up this early? you know, there's it's cooler now. and we hear about warming fires. it did have what i think is probably a warming fire over in the east bay. look at the speed sensors. and these will light back up as the crews clear from niles canyon. it's just a little north of there at 580, just at eden canyon road. reports of a fire on the surface street area. no structures involved, but it might affect the off ramp. a little slowing was seen on the sensors a short time ago. meanwhile, the rest of the bay moves pretty smoothly. we do have eastbound, the lower deck of the bay bridge. reports of a disabled vehicle, which i believe just cleared as you leave san francisco back to you.
5:12 am
5:15 am
the microclimate weather alert as we deal with the high wind in oakland. it's a breezy start. 14mph right now, it's all clear and temperatures are in the low 60s. to start with a gradual warm up. today we're headed for the low seconds. it will be very windy in some of our hills and mountains, so we'll check on those wind speeds and what's ahead in our microclimate forecast. and as you would expect, a nice calm day over on the peninsula side here, 101 through palo alto. those taillights heading north past some construction without problems up into san francisco, without delay. we'll track the east bay where there may be some changes coming right now. i'll check the sensors coming up. well, good morning, and very happy day after election day to you. normally, the fact that
5:16 am
nvidia just became the world's most valuable company in the world would take up a bit of my time, but that's a sideshow today. dow futures up better than 1200 points. not necessarily because trump won, but because we know with certainty who won. there's no fight coming. the business world hates uncertainty. all right. a lot to talk about the yield on the ten year treasury jumped again as investors expect that trump's proposed tax cuts will add to the deficit. remember, economists warned us for months trump's plan to cut taxes on overtime tips and social security would add far more to the american deficit than kamala harris's plan. government debt. one of the factors that pushes inflation higher as well. the other is tariffs. inflationary. so the yield on the ten year moves higher. so to do mortgage rates even despite the fed's
5:17 am
recent rate cuts on the federal funds rate and there's an expected rate cut coming later this week. meantime elon musk becomes one of the most powerful people in the world. if he takes that job as the yet to be invented department of government efficiency. musk has said he will cut $2 trillion in government spending, which is most of the government's discretionary spending. here's the tesla ceo saying just that at the madison square garden rally. how much do you think we can rip out of this wasted $6.5 trillion? harris, biden budget? well, i think we can do at least 2 trillion. yeah. yes. 2 trillion. and then there's the question of mass deportations. trump has promised to round up millions of undocumented workers. he's used numbers all over the place from 5 million to 30 million, which should drive labor costs up as fewer people
5:18 am
compete for presumably the same number of jobs, including jobs americans don't like to do and will want to be paid much more for. so these are some of the conflicting things that we're dealing with. bond yields up because wall street is worried about the deficit. trump administration talking about cutting spending. the problem is whether you support the next president or not. you're never quite sure what it is. the difference between what he says and what we're actually going to do is often very different. we have four years experience with that. we'll see. and so it'll keep us all busy. we'll be past too. so that's. yes. all right. all right. thanks, scott. it is 517 right now. and trending this morning. you're never too old to have your say. in this case, we mean at the ballot box. i want you to meet margaret netter. she's 103 years old. and yesterday she cast her ballot. she does each election. this is in eau claire, wisconsin. margaret was born in 1921. that's one year after women first won the right to vote. she
5:19 am
did say that this time around she supported kamala harris. but no matter the election, she never passes up a chance to be heard. that's great. 103 and able to walk on walk on her own. right. strolling in there, please. i vote for that. yeah. margaret. right. all right, so a look at what's going on weather wise here. we're still dealing with those winds. yeah. i mean, the winds are really howling up there in the mountains. and we see that there are a lot of power outages. so let's check out some of the peak winds. just measured 81 mile per hour wind gusts at mount saint helena. and in mount diablo, the peak wind was at 65mph. pittsburgh 50 mile per hour winds coming through the delta and mount aluminum is at 47, while mount tam in the north bay has had a 43 mile per hour wind gusts. so we're going to continue to see these gusts over 60mph bringing down trees. and also we're already seeing
5:20 am
that now impacts to power and very low humidity elevates our fire danger. so we do have to still be very careful here as the red flag warning continues through 7:00 tomorrow morning. our temperatures today headed for the low 70s for concord. novato, 73 degrees and 71. in san francisco, also 71 for a high today in palo alto and then checking out the forecast for tomorrow. slightly lower in some spots with upper 60s and fremont. but mostly low to mid 70s elsewhere. and we're looking at friday's high temperatures in the low 70s as well. check out our hour by hour wind forecast. so we're starting out with those high winds now that will continue through at least 10:00, 43 mile per hour winds in napa and about 18 mile per hour winds in sunnyvale. so we're still looking at even some breezy winds in the valleys that will gradually start to come down to calm by tomorrow morning. so we're looking at still a high fire danger going into the rest
5:21 am
of the forecast. slightly cooler temperatures once the winds relax and we're going to see a chance of rain in monday's forecast. looking at that possibility with cooler temperatures coming in and checking out san francisco with low 70s today will be in the 60s throughout the weekend. and more clouds most likely the fog, will return once we deal with the wind calming down. mike, you have a couple of notes now for the north bay. yeah, one is the expected slowdown we see on the sensors out of vallejo. for west 37. that's the morning commute kicking in a bit. the other is that there's a wind advisory. chp just gave a note about the crossing. the carquinez bridge. so cross crossing. i'm sorry. the benicia bridge. so do watch 680. nothing major. just a note from them. but then do look at our road weather index in that area through this portion of fairfield in toward rio vista. that light light yellow means that there's gusty winds. highway 12 may be a factor. there are wires reported down over here near branscombe. as you're coming through the area off of highway 12, this slowing
5:22 am
is typical overnight roadwork going through vacaville. we know that for both directions of i-80. but again, gusty winds kari been talking about watch that rio vista bridge as you cross that delta as well. south of there everything is moving very nicely. we have no problems out of the altamont pass, a smooth drive, the tri-valley interchange, as well as as you come down. 880 a smooth flow of traffic. there may be a new incident off of 680. i believe everything is off to the shoulder, but i'll get more detail once chp gets on scene. the south bay itself moves very nicely though, and as we look at the richmond bridge, we have a light build for the volume of traffic coming out from richmond over toward the north bay without any problem for either. back to you. good to know. all right. thanks, mike. our election news coverage continues next on today in the bay. we're tracking where key state propositions stand this morning from housing to minimum wage. the results still coming in.

the results of local races which impact people trying to make it in the bay. today in the bay is kira klapper is here this morning breaking down those results of the propositions. a lot of them for us. kira a lot of them. hi, marcus and laura. good to be with you. many of the races are still too close to call early this morning, but i have a look at some of the current returns. proposition five. let's start there. it would allow local bonds for affordable housing and public infrastructure. too close to
5:26 am
call just 51% of precincts reporting. right now, but it is leaning towards failing what it would have done was borrowed money and then repaid it with higher property taxes. prop five needs 55% voter approval to pass. meanwhile, california voters also rejecting proposition 33 so far. it would allow cities and counties to control rents on any type of housing, including apartments, condos and single family homes. right now, san francisco and los angeles have rent control, but there are limitations because of the costa-hawkins act. under that, rent control cannot be applied to homes or apartments built after 1995. and another proposition too close to call prop 32, which would increase california's minimum wage if passed. minimum wage would go up immediately from $16 to 17. on january 1st. it would go up to $18 an hour for larger companies. for smaller companies, it would go up the following year, 2026. opponents argue that raising minimum wage
5:27 am
would pass price hikes on to consumers, and that companies would be forced to lay off employees in order to save money. with 55% of precincts reporting, prop 32 is leaning towards failing. again, only about half of precincts have returned so far. many statewide propositions are still too soon to call. we will continue to follow every proposition and race for you, both on air and on nbcbayarea.com. marcus and laura, back to you. a lot to cover on this post-election wednesday. thank you. kira. all right. it is 526 right now. next, the top stories we're following, including meteorologist kari hall. she is tracking the strong winds and that fire danger. also, the area is being impacted by power outages. plus, we're all talking about this historic election. scott mcgrew breaking down the international and national reaction as donald trump becomes america's 45th president elect overnight. also, he's tracking the race for the house, which is up in the airt this a

on this wednesday. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we certainly have a lot to get to this morning, including special coverage of this historic election as former president donald trump, as our nation's 47th president elect. scott mcgrew has reaction just ahead. and we have a look at all the results in key local races. but first, let's begin with another top story for you this
5:31 am
morning. that red flag warning. now in effect. meteorologist kari hall tracking the strong winds and that fire danger for us. kari. yeah. the red flag warning continues for the bay area. we're also going to see the high winds and low humidity continue in the forecast. but we're feeling some of the strongest wind gusts as we speak. and some of the hills and mountains, meanwhile, in the valleys and in san jose, it's about a 16 mile per hour wind right now. so it's not really strong, but there is definitely a breeze happening out there. and temperatures in the low 60s as we go throughout the day, it's going to gradually start to calm down with those higher wind gusts, and our temperatures will warm up into the low 70s all across the bay area. now we're looking at also some high winds early tomorrow, but then as we go into the afternoon, we're going back to those highs in the 70s. and it may be a touch warmer in spots like santa rosa, headed for a high of 75 degrees. so we'll continue to monitor for any of the impacts from the gusty winds and also the high fire danger. and i'll have
5:32 am
another update coming up in a few minutes. back to you. thanks, gary. well, no more decision. it has been decided. donald j. trump will be the next president of the united states. and scott mcgrew only the second person in history to serve nonconsecutive terms, grover cleveland. i know that came top to mind. right. grover cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president of the united states back in the 1880s and 1890s. trump will be 45 and 47. most news agencies, including nbc, came to the conclusion that trump won around 3 a.m. our time. trump came to that conclusion earlier in the night. this was a movement like nobody's ever seen before, and frankly, this was, i believe, the greatest political movement of all time. there's never been anything like this in this country. and maybe beyond. and now it's going to reach a new level of importance because we're going to help our country
5:33 am
heal. we're going to help our country heal. we have a country that needs help. help our country heal is far kinder and gentler language than he was using even a few days ago. now, most campaigns are tough with reconciliation, or at least the promise of it after the candidate wins. but as with many things, trump, this was one of the toughest. making his new language that much more remarkable. and every citizen, i will fight for you, for your family and your future every single day i will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body, i will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous america that our children deserve and that you deserve. vice president harris has not spoken yet. we do expect that later this morning. again, it wasn't until a few hours ago pennsylvania was declared for trump, effectively ending the race. as of right
5:34 am
this moment, we do not have results from michigan, nevada, arizona. but that is not going to change anything. it looks as if the republicans have been able to flip the senate as well. the gop will be back in charge there. unclear what's happening in the house. who will be in charge there if republicans land the house, the senate and the white house, they'll have total control over the government. you'd think that would mean they'd get a tremendous amount done. but the gop was in that position the first time trump won the white house. and yes, they passed that huge tax cut they're celebrating here and some key judicial appointments. they were not able to keep their promise to appeal the affordable care act or build trump's wall. a number of firebrands will stay in congress. lauren boebert won her election in colorado. democratic senator elizabeth warren of massachusetts and republican senator ted cruz in texas. when i returned to the senate, i carry with me not just
5:35 am
a victory, but a mandate, a mandate from the people of texa. and let me be crystal clear about what that mandate means. first, we must secure the border not with empty promises, but with concrete and steel and law and order, and with the unshakable resolve from knowing we are protecting those we love. look at some of the messages coming in on public social media from world leaders congratulating trump. you see, emmanuel macron there and the israeli leader as well, viktor orban, the biggest comeback in u.s. political history. the next big question will be exploring through the next days is the and the months and the years coming up is trump's relationship with putin? you may recall this moment where trump said he took putin at his word. when asked if
5:36 am
he trusted american agencies or the russians more over the question of russian interference. both state officials and fbi say those bomb threats to polling places in largely black neighborhoods. yesterday, marcus had russian origins. yeah. all right. scott mcgrew for us this morning. scott. thank you. 535 right now and san jose city councilman behind bars this morning, it's unclear on what grounds, but we do know that omar torres has been under investigation for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a minor. today in the bay's kris sanchez is live for us from san jose police headquarters, where we expect an update later today. chris. good morning to you, marcus. san jose police say that they'll give us a little more detail about what led to the arrest of councilman omar torres today. we reached out to his attorney, and his attorney says he has not seen the exact charges yet either. what we can tell you is that omar torres has been under investigation for about a month
5:37 am
or so, and that he spent the night in the santa clara county jail, and today could face a judge. as early as this morning. he is being held without bail on a felony complaint. that's what we know. torres has been under investigation for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a man that investigators say began when that man was a minor. san jose police found out about that relationship when torres reached out to investigators for help, saying that that man was blackmailing him over the release of graphic photos. we talked with san jose mayor matt mahan after we learned of torres arrest. he's entitled to due process, but these arrests are extremely serious, extremely disturbing, and the community deserves to know the truth. the mayor and the city council had been calling for torres resignation for weeks now. yesterday they got it. according to the san jose city clerk, a torri says ta
5:38 am
letter of yesterday. it is a letter that she is going to release to the public later on today. he continues to maintain his innocence, usually in cases like this, we see once somebody is resigning, the council does have to vote to accept it. we are working on several things this morning related to this story. of course, we are trying to find out when san jose pd is going to give us information about details about the arrest. also trying to figure out when he is going to be in court so that we can be there as well for his arraignment in san jose, kris sanchez today in the bay disturbing, but we will continue to follow kris. thank you. time to take a live look outside on this wednesday morning. halfway through our workweek. you can even tell in chris sanchez's live shot there, hearing some of the winds in our microphone. carey has been watching them for us, a concern. yeah, absolutely, because the humidity is very lo. and we're also going to see the high fire danger continue today.
5:39 am
red flag warning is the reason why we are under this microclimate weather alert. it is now 62 degrees in san jose. so our temperatures a little bit warmer as a result of all of friction that those winds create. and we are seeing some really high wind gusts and some of the hills and mountains in napa. we're right now measuring a current wind gust at 26mph. just updated and 35 in mount diablo, and it's 78 mile per hour. wind gusts were measuring now and in the north bay, so we're seeing some of those upper elevations, seeing the wind just roaring up there. and then for the valleys there is a breeze, but it's not that windy. and that's the reason why we do have the concern of the red flag, warning that it continues even through ten, 11:00 and throughout the afternoon. we're still going to see the gusty winds. but notice how it calms down overnight into the day tomorrow. our temperatures today are headed for the upper 60s and low 70s. we should see a high of 71 in palo alto and in napa and 73 in san jose. so we'll talk
5:40 am
more about the changes ahead coming up in a few minutes. mike, this is concerning. you have two fires to report. yeah. so anytime we mentioned fire, there's of course a chance that a spark will get blown around and cause another secondary issue. but this first one is on the roadways. we're talking about a car fire 92 between upper and lower 35. so somewhere in this stretch right here we see no slowing on the sensors. fire crews were on scene for a few minutes before i even got the report. they may have been able to clear lanes. i'll track that. but again, fire is the note that we're looking for. no major problems over there between highway two, interstate 280, and highway one over on the other side of the bay. this is the one we've been tracking on eden canyon road, just north of 580. there's a fire in the center divide area, and that may affect both directions approaching and leaving the freeway. the freeway itself is clear. eden canyon road. watch for that. if you do have to head to or from the freeway over the next few minutes, fire crews are on scene. outside of that, we have your little build for highway four typical here. no
5:41 am
major surprises. highway 37 as well. the bay bridge toll plaza. the slowing starts for the incline. no major issues. that's a pretty typical morning commute right now. and then this evening. this is not the map from yesterday where it is. the map from yesterday. but there's still another concert for 17. repeat performance. same time, same place. watch for traffic after work as you pass by the arena. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. south bay school leaders may consider taking the next step in a controversy over funding. just ahead on today in the bay. the key meeting set to get underway in just a matter of hours. but first, as we head to break, here's a look at more election results in those key races. always remember you can get the latest results at nbcbayarea.com. also download our free nbc bay area app.

clear. we're in for a lot of sunshine for today. as our temperatures head for low 70s here. eventually, the wind will relax. we'll talk about that and what's ahead for the weekend coming up. and it looks like the camera has a little blur in their eyes as well. this is northbound 101. picking up the volume. so starting to slow down for the first verse we talk about in san jose. we'll see how things are shaping up. i'm still tracking that vehicle fire over in the san mateo hills. thanks, mike and kari. san francisco voters seem to be signaling a change in leadership, but determining a winner in the race for mayor is still far from certain. this morning, we do know one key contender is already conceding today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco and ginger, we also know a political outsider currently in the lead. that's correct. good morning marcus and laura. we've been following the race for san francisco mayor pretty closely, even up until yesterday when candidates were campaigning down to the wire. and it seems to
5:46 am
have paid off at this point for daniel lowery. he is currently holding the lead in this race with 28%. he's followed by incumbent mayor london breed, who holds 25% of the vote at this point. the third spot belongs to board of president. board of supervisors president, i should say aaron peskin. and that's followed by mark farrell and ahsha safai. now, mark farrell bowed out of the race around 10:00 last night. his concession came as a surprise to many people standing with his wife at his election party. farrell told supporters that voting results do not show a possible path to victory for him. he thanked those who supported him and asked them to stand behind the person who wins. now we don't know officially who that is as of yet. san francisco does have ranked choice voting, so it may still take a while, but there was a victorious energy and an optimism at danielle lowery's
5:47 am
rally in the mission last night. after initial results started coming in. here's lowery addressing the crowd. the moment that we are in calls for a new era of leadership in city hall, one rooted in accountability, service and change. yes. let me be very clear. this election was never about me. it was always about you. now optimism is still alive at another party in the city that was at mayor london breed election night party. mayor breed, currently in second place, hopeful that the results will swing more in her favor. we got to just kind of take it back, because i don't know if you remember what happened in 2018. i mean, there were several days, even the night of election night where i was definitely not in the lead. and you see me standing here right now as the mayor of san francisco. now,

there are some other notable races here in the city, including the race for different districts. district one remains really close. that is, between connie chan, who now holds a slight lead over maher john philhower. another close race in san francisco's district six between dean preston and bilal mahmood. san francisco does have ranked choice voting, as i mentioned, and so we are not we don't know the official results just yet. it may still take a while, marcus and laura, but you can continue to follow the latest of those numbers at nbcbayarea.com in san francisco, ginger conejero saab. today in the bay. all right ginger, thank you. and voters across california deciding on ten propositions on this year's ballot today in the bay's kira klapper is here to break down some of those results for us. kira. hey, marcus and laura, you likely have heard a lot of chatter about proposition 36, which would increase penalties for drugs and theft. so far, prop 36 is passing
5:49 am
overwhelmingly. it will increase those sentences for repeat shoplifters and drug dealers. under prop 36, judges can also mandate drug treatment. supporters include small business owners who have been victims of repeated burglaries and smash and grabs. major retailers like walmart, target and home depot also support prop 36. too soon to call? just 52% of the precincts reporting, but it is leaning towards passing. and it's being projected that proposition three will pass. it would enshrine marriage equality in the california state constitution. basically, prop three is a repeal of prop eight, which you likely recall was passed by voters back in 2008. it defined marriage as being between a man and a woman, while prop three changes the language in the california state constitution and it reaffirms the right of same sex couples to marry, which, by the way, has been legal in california since

june of 2013. from state to local. now i want to take you to san francisco and the fight over the fate of the great highway. it is being decided by voters through measure k. k would permanently close two miles of the city's great highway to cars and instead turn that stretch into an oceanfront park. it's right along ocean beach. right now, the race is too close to call as well, but approval is narrowly winning. you can see that 53% to 47% supporters of prop k say san francisco needs more parks, and they want to help preserve the coastline. meanwhile, opponents of measure k say the measure does not consider the needs of the community that drives on that roadway. every day. as mentioned, a lot of those returns still only at 50% right now. we will continue to follow all of these races statewide and local until we have those final results. back to you guys. all right. thank you. well, now to our other top stories this morning with those headlines. santa clara county education leaders are scheduled to meet today. and it is believed that

environmental services department. now, here's what they say. if you have a yard sign, disassemble the metal, then recycle both the voter information packets that you actually got from the register of voters is recyclable, along with the leaflets and postcards, candidates sent through the mai. your i voted sticker can be recycled as well. so if you're not keeping it for the just a monumental reason or whatever, put it in the trash. yep, you can't recycle it. but maybe it's a memento. yeah. there you go. when your kids are all voting, you're going to have so much literature. yeah, it was good. i took my daughter to the polls yesterday and they gave her a sticker, even though she didn't vote. but she got to really see the process, which is cool. that is good to see. i remember doing that as a kid. yeah. it's important to teach our kids. absolutely. they are our future. yeah. your vote is your voice. so. okay. well, planning for today? certainly. windy out there. i noticed it this morning. very early. those signs are blowing around out there. so if you cycle them. yeah. not blowing down the street. make

5:54 am
and 68 in vacaville. while in santa rosa it will be in the mid 70s. expect more of the same tomorrow and maybe even a touch warmer in some spots, but looks pretty good temperature wise and going into the end of the week into the weekend. not much of a change as far as our highs, but as high pressure moves farther to the south, it's going to eventually make way for a couple of storm systems that will be moving in for the weekend into early next week, but the rain chances are very slight, but we will have some cooler air coming in on monday, so take a look at san jose and what to expect over the next ten days. very nice and mild, but still pretty breezy through tomorrow and then the weekend is looking nice with low 70s only mid 60s on monday as we get some rain chances and we're watching out for that quick shot that doesn't look to bring us a lot of rain, but will hopefully help with the very dry situation that we have and the fire danger continues as our gusty winds will linger through early

tomorrow. and then for a san francisco to be in the mid 60s and mostly cloudy for the weekend. mike, now you have an alert for the car fire on the peninsula. that's right. the chp has issued an alert because there's officially traffic control reports of a box truck fully involved, engulfed in flames. and so that's quite the spectacle. for safety, they're going to let folks through when they're able to. fire crews are on scene. traffic is going back and forth. but you'll have to wait again until you get permission and chp waves you through. that's between 280 and skyline. you know that section of 92 around upper and lower 35. we continue to track that again, still access, but allow extra time. the east bay does show the build highway 4 building up here. upper east shore freeway 37 holding with the most slowing. the bay bridge itself does have slowing approaching san francisco and the backup filled in the toll plaza right on schedule. typical pattern there. atypical. this is on eden canyon road. this is the second fire we're tracking that's going across the roadway. just the cruiser there. i don't know the cause of it, but it is affecting
