us, the nation, who have always been the heart and soul of this really great movement. we've been through so much together, and today you showed up in record numbers to deliver a victory right now on today in the bay. donald trump is america's 47th president elect, claiming victory even before securing it overnight. we have republican reaction to this historic outcome, a different scene in washington, where the celebration never arrived for kamala harris. she chose not to speak to supporters at her watch party while here at home. i absolutely do believe that my administration has done what we can receiving and inheriting all
6:01 am
of these issues. oakland's mayor, involved in one of two high profile east bay, recalls the other targets alameda county's district attorney. we are closely monitoring what may turn into a shakeup in leadership and what would then come next. across the bay, the race for san francisco mayor is extremely tight and way too early to call the impressive voter support so far for philanthropist daniel lurie. and statewide, from minimum wage to cracking down on crime where the proposition races stand, this morning, we are moving you forward with all your election results. this is today in the bay. good wednesday morning. thanks for making us a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. after a grueling race, donald trump makes history as he wins the race for the white house for a second time. we have a look at where things stand. currently, trump has 276 electoral votes. that's compared to vice president harris's 223.
6:02 am
now, let's take a live look over at the white house this morning. will trump will return in 75 days. the key battleground state of pennsylvania was critical in shoring up his victory today in the bay's. jay gray is in philadelphia this morning with which kicks off our team coverage. hey there. good morning. and nbc news now projecting that former president donald trump is the winner of the 2024 presidential election, the former president now the future president, according to nbc news wisconsin being called for the former president. and that pushes him over the 270 electoral votes needed to retake the white house. we heard from the former president earlier this morning greeting supporters at his rally in west palm beach, declaring victory before nbc news. and frankly, several other news organizations had and saying that this win was a, quote, huge win for democracy. let's hear some more from what
6:03 am
the president said to those supporters. i want to thank the american people for the extraordinary honor of being elected. your 47th president and your 45th president. and to every citizen, i will fight for you, for your family and your future. every single day i will be fighting for you. and with every breath in my body, i will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous america that our children deserve and that you deserve. the former president there, on stage with his family, with key staff members along with his running mate, of course, jd vance. we heard from the president talking and saw as the results began to come in overnight, him build an early lead and start to move states over to his side of the ledger. and then it was early this morning when the swing states of
6:04 am
georgia and north carolina went the former president's way, and then here in pennsylvania, he won. that just moments later. according to nbc news. and both campaigns have said, we have to win pennsylvania to get a clear path to the white house. it appears now that that is the case again, nbc news has projected that donald trump will be the 47th president of the united states. that's the latest right now from here in philadelphia. i'm jay gray. back to you now. all right jay, thank you. now we're still waiting to hear the first reaction from kamala harris to her election day defeat, her campaign now promising an address to the nation later today at a watch party last night at howard university, her alma mater, in washington, she chose not to speak. by the time she left, there was still no projected winner. our damian trujillo is in washington. he'll have complete coverage in our nbc bay area newscast later today. well, back here in the bay area, specifically in the east bay, voters appear to have been
6:05 am
overwhelming in their decision to oust the mayor of oakland and the alameda county district attorney. today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from outside the east county hall of justice in dublin. he's got the latest results. bob, good morning to you, laura. voters here in alameda county appear to be ready to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price, who has an office behind me here in the east county hall of justice in dublin, where we're at, you can see the latest numbers. this is according to the associated press, with 39% of the vote being reported. the ap reports that voters are recommending her recall from office by a margin of 65 to 35%. this is how voters reacted last night to those first batch of results. you can see there was a lot of cheering the group save alameda for everyone, expressed their excitement last night over
6:06 am
the early returns, showing the yes on the recall with a sizable lead. you know, we want to thank all of the citizens of alameda county as a whole that understood what we were talking about, that understood that people were being hurt and they went out and they voted. and it's not done. but we see victory, and we are so glad that we have made the step to making alameda county a safer place for everybody. if the district attorney is recalled, county supervisors will elect an interim da to serve until the next scheduled election in 2026. here are the latest numbers in the recall effort of oakland mayor sheng thao. with 36% of precincts reporting, the mayor is losing by 65% of voters wanting her out, compared to 35% who want her to stay. earlier last night, the mayor spoke to
6:07 am
nbc bay area's velena jones. the mayor says in spite of those early results, she is optimistic she can keep her job. i absolutely do believe that my administration has done what we can receiving and inheriting all of these issues right. let's be reminded that under the previous administration, we lost the warriors. we lost the raiders. you know, when i came in the a's were already out, you know, leaving the city of oakland. there wasn't much that i could have done about that. but at the end of the day, i don't know. and i can't remember the last time we had zero homicides in the city of oakland and so i'm really proud of the work that we are doing. we know that it works again. i've been in office for less than two years, and we are already turning the city around. supporters for mayor chao have called the efforts to recall her undemocratic and they argue big money interests are funding the efforts. those in favor of the recall blame mayor chao for higher crime rates, businesses leaving and the firing of former police chief leronne armstrong.
6:08 am
they also hold her responsible for a huge budget deficit that could lead to cuts in public safety. reporting live here in dublin, bob redell today in the bay. all right. very eventful wrap up there. thank you very much, bob. well, certainly one of the most closely watched bay area races, the one to replace house lawmaker anna eshoo. this is district 16. and here's where things stand right now. former san jose mayor sam liccardo appears to have a comfortable lead, but there is still a lot of votes to be counted. last night at his election night event, liccardo did not declare victory. but he did talk to our crew about what he would do if he were to win the seat as the mayor of the first city in the country to file a lawsuit against trump to protect daca dreamers. we fought for many, many fronts, and we're necessary to protect our community. i'm going to fight and protect our democratic institutions, and we're going to fight where we have an opportunity to actually work together on something i'll find that way. evan low, meanwhile, attended a watch
6:09 am
party in mountain view packed with supporters as the night ended. he still had not conceded defeat, but despite a wide gap in those results, low told the crowd that he has been here before. during the march primary, he finished neck and neck with joe simitian for second place, winning that recount. that's why i'm advocating on these key issues, supporting that of the middle class and workers. you mentioned also other communities like half moon bay, and we realized that there are many undocumented farm workers who are working hard but putting food on the table, and it's imperative that we as members of congress and our public officials, advocate for the safety net that is so important for everyday residents in this district. and no matter the winner, this will mark a big change for the 16th district. retiring congresswoman anna eshoo held the seat for more than three decades. we are following developing news this morning. several bay area communities are in the dark. customers in lake sonoma, napa and solano counties have had
6:10 am
their power turned off due to high winds. in fact, let's take a look at the map right now. you can see in the purple those are all the customers affected by the power safety shut off. meteorologist kari hall of course monitoring the strong winds out there. and have we seen some really strong gusts? oh, yeah. definitely in the hills. and the mountains. a lot of us in the valleys are not feeling it as much. we're like, okay, it's breezy, but it's not what we are seeing in some of the higher elevations. so here's a look at the map where pg&e issued that psps warning. and once again you want to make sure you're signed up for those alerts. so that you can get that information before the power goes off. now we're still seeing those high mountain wind gusts over 60mph. and the potential of downed trees will continue. low humidity elevates the fire danger. and the red flag warning continues through tomorrow morning for all of the bay area as we continue to see those high winds taking a look at where we are right now, 71 mile per hour winds in mount saint helena.
6:11 am
that's not the peak though. we had 81 mile per hour winds in the last hour. mount diablo at 39. while san jose is currently seeing those winds gusting at 17mph. so we'll continue to watch this. mike's been watching where we can fill up for a little bit less. yeah, and concord is still king of contra costa counties list, with the best being 369 at bond fair market on willow pass road in the middle price. here we have marin county. the low is 381 in mill valley at arco. that's on redwood highway. and then at the bottom the low is up a few cents in the south bay. cupertino leads with 393 today. great vargas on north deanza boulevard. make sure you check gasbuddy.com. things are changing a few cents a day, up or down. as we look at the roadways. we still have the alert on the peninsula highway 92 between upper and lower 35. that box truck fire still being dealt with, giving one way traffic control delaying you between 280 and half moon bay. that is your connector there. we're watching that on the
6:12 am
peninsula side. the east bay shows a pretty typical pattern. after an earlier incident was cleared from the bay bridge toll plaza. not a lot of additional slowing there, but we are still watching this 880 northbound. a new crash at the top of the screen at high street north. 880 at high street. we may have two lanes blocked. back to you. thanks so much, mike. 611 right now. our election coverage continues throughout the morning, including propositions aiming to help you make it in the bay. just ahead at 625, the latest results on rent control, affordable housing and a minimum wage increase. and coming up, we'll take a look at the financial impacts of a new trump presidency. you want to see some bonkers futures. let's go out to the futures. take a look at that number. now this is not necessarily because of trump. this is because we know who's going to be the 47th president. and as we head to break here's a look at more local race results.
6:13 am
6:14 am
6:16 am
weather alert. and it's a breezy morning in santa rosa, now at 60 degrees. the wind coming in from the north at 14mph, and there will be a gradual warm up as the gusty winds continue at least for a little while, and the high fire danger continues for all of the bay area. so i'll be monitoring that, and we'll talk about when the wind calms down, the temperatures also going down, coming up in a few minutes. and look at this. continued problems for oakland. northbound 880 is jammed up. a crash just past the top of the screen. just past high street. leave your two left lanes blocked. fire departments on scene may be letting some medical assistance. not a lot of detail on that, but the airbags have been deployed. can be a little while until they can clear these vehicles. two of them involved. this jams up 880. we'll check out 580. your alternate coming up. well, good morning. very happy day after election day to you. now
6:17 am
normally the fact that nvidia just became the world's most valuable company would take up a bit of my time, but that's a sideshow today. dow futures. you saw them up better than 1200 points. not necessarily because trump won, but because we know with certainty who won. there's no fight coming. the business world hates uncertainty. okay. a lot to talk about. the yield on the ten year treasury jumped again as investors expect that trump's proposed tax cuts will add to the deficit. remember, economists warned for months trump's plan to cut taxes on overtime tips. social security will add far more to the american deficit than kamala harris's plan. government debt one of those factors that pushes inflation higher. the other is it tariffs inflationary. so the yield on the ten year moves higher. so do mortgage rates. even despite the fed's recent rate cuts on the federal funds rate and an expected rate cut
6:18 am
coming later this week. meantime, elon musk becomes one of the most powerful people in the world if he takes the job as the head of the yet to be invented department of government efficiency. musk has said he will cut $2 trillion in spending, which is most of our discretionary spending. here's the tesla ceo saying just that. at that madison square garden rally. how much do you think we can rip out of this wasted $6.5 trillion? harris. biden budget? well, i think we can do at least 2 trillion. yeah. yes. 2 trillion. i mean, at the end of the members, 6.5 trillion. but then two point some is discretionary, 6.5 is medicare, medicaid defense. then there's the question of mass deportation. trump has promised to round up millions of undocumented workers. he's used numbers all over the place from 5 million to 30 million, which
6:19 am
will drive labor costs up as fewer people compete for presumably the same number of jobs, including jobs americans don't like to do, and will want to be paid much more for. now, some of what we just talked about is conflicting, right? bond yields are up. wall street is worried about deficits, but they're talking about cutting trillions from the budget. and that's the problem. whether you support the next president or not, what he says and what ends up actually being policy are often not just different, but opposites. we have four years of experience with that. so we'll do it for another four years and be the be there for you. we'll see where we go from here. yeah. thanks, scott. well, new for you this morning. trending. it's never too old to have your say in this case. i'm talking about the ballot box. i want you to meet a very special person for you. yeah. this is margaret canett. she is 103 years old. and guess what she did yesterday? well, she cast her
6:20 am
ballot and she says she does this every election. this is over in eau claire, wisconsin. miss margaret was born in 1921. and this year she says that happened like one year after the women won the right to vote. and she said this time around, she supported kamala harris. but no matter the election, she says she's never passed up the chance to be heard. i like how you called her miss margaret. yeah, i kind of i know your roots came back to you right there because i was like, i can't call to margaret, but yeah, miss margaret. maggie, no, no. she earned. she's earned. miss margaret southern roots. that's impressive though. that's great. see? yeah. still casting that vote? absolutely. all right, well, look, we're casting our vote for calmer winds, but not so much for us. well, the fire danger is the main problem. i mean, i think for the most part, we don't mind a little breeze, but when the humidity drops and the winds pick up, that causes issues with the potential of fires that if they do start, can spread very quickly. and it's
6:21 am
been whipping in the upper elevations. take a look at the last 12 hours and the highest wind gusts we've seen up to 81mph in the north bay, and even in the east bay, we have a 65 mile per hour gust measured at mount diablo and through the delta. 50 mile per hour winds. we're seeing a lot of those garbage cans get blown over those signs kind of blowing around, but it's not as windy as we take a live look outside in oakland. maybe you need to get out the door now. we'll check in with mike in a little bit, but we are starting out with temperatures in the upper 50s here and we will see a gradual warm up going into late morning into the afternoon as our highs head for the low 70s here. most of us will be in the low 70s for today, with the more of a breezy wind continuing and then tomorrow the winds are expected to calm down as temperatures remain more of the same. so let's go hour by hour with our wind gusts forecast, that's still going to be quite high for elevations above 1000ft. and in
6:22 am
napa, we're still looking at the potential of 51 mile per hour wind gusts in the next hour. and then it's more like 30 to 40 going toward late morning while in san francisco, we're still going to see winds coming in from the north at about 26. and then into the evening. it's breezy, but notice how overnight the wind just calms down and we're looking at a light breeze in most spots. so we are seeing this pressure gradient across the region, high and low pressure close together. and then we're going to transition toward some low pressure across the region for the weekend. it will be slightly cooler and a quick shot of rain on monday, as our highs only make it into the mid 60s. but we are in for some dry weather. gusty winds at least through the weekend. next week is when we see the changes that will be very brief and highs reaching into the upper 60s and low 70s. it will be cooler ahead, the fire danger lingering through early tomorrow. the weekend looking nice. a mix of sun and clouds and a slight dip in temperatures
6:23 am
will also see the fog returning in san francisco. mike, you're starting with that jam we saw in oakland. you showed folks we clearly see which direction is jammed northbound. this one heading up to just past high street. reports of a crash blocking your left two lanes, jamming them all up instead of northbound 880. look at the timing. take westbound 580, a much easier drive from estudillo avenue all the way in san leandro, all the way up to the bay bridge toll plaza. so watch that as you're coming through downtown. big delays for northbound 880. westbound 580 is a better route. you see how it takes you past highway 13 and then back over to the maze. back to you. always keeping us up to date. what would we do without you, mike? thanks. raising california's minimum wage. up next, we continue our election coverage with an update on the state proposition and multiple others aimed at helping you make it in the bay.
6:25 am
jen b asks, "how can i get fast download speeds while out and about?” jen, we've engineered xfinity mobile with wifi speeds up to a gig, so you can download and do much more all at once. it's an idea that's quite attractive. or... another word... fashionable? i was gonna say- “popular! you're gonna be pop-uuuu-larrr!” can you do defying gravity?! yeah, get my harness. buy one line of unlimited, get one free for a year with xfinity mobile. and see wicked, only in theaters november 22nd.
6:26 am
coverage continues this morning and we are following those results of local races, which will impact people trying to make it in the bay today in the bay's kira klapper is here to break down the results of some of these propositions for us. good morning. kira. hey, laura and marcus, good morning to you. many of the races are still too close to call early this morning, but we do have a few updates. a look at the current returns for you. proposition five, which would allow local bonds for affordable housing and public infrastructure to close
6:27 am
to call just yet. just 51% of precincts reporting. but it is leaning towards failing. that's because californians don't want borrowed money to be repaid with higher property taxes. prop 55. prop five. pardon me, does need 55% of voter approval to pass. and it's currently at 44%. california voters, meanwhile, are rejecting proposition 33, which would have allowed cities and counties to control rents on any type of housing that includes apartments, condos, single family homes. right now, san francisco and los angeles are under rent control, but there are limitations because of the costa hawkins act. under that act, rent control cannot be applied to homes nor apartments built after 1995, and most people are voting no on that one. and another proposition too close to call prop 32, which would increase california's minimum wage. if passed, it would go up from 16 to $17 immediately. january 1st. for
6:28 am
larger companies, it would go up to $18 an hour, and then the following year, 2026, it would go up for smaller companies. opponents argue that raising minimum wage would pass price hikes onto consumers, and that companies would be forced to lay off employees in order to save money. 55% of precincts are reporting and prop 32 appears to be failing, which means minimum wage will not be raised again. only about half of those precincts have returned so far. many statewide propositions are still too soon to call, but we can see which way they all appear to be leaning. we will continue to follow every proposition and race, both on air and on nbc bay area, until they are all called. back to you to following it to the end. thanks, kara. and of course, our election coverage continues ahead at 630, starting with president trump's big win overnight. it is now clear that we've achieved the most incredible political thing. look, what happened is this crazy scott mcgrew. tracking the
6:29 am
6:31 am
6:32 am
on the presidential election. no more decision. it has been decided donald j. trump will be the next president of the united states. scott mcgrew only the second person in history actually served eight nonconsecutive terms. right. kind of a jeopardy question now, right? the other is grover cleveland, the 22nd, 24th president of the united states back in the 1880s and 1890s. trump will be 4547. most news agencies, including nbc, came to the conclusion that trump won around 3 a.m. our time. trump came to that conclusion earlier in the night. this was a movement like nobody's ever seen before, and frankly, this was, i believe, the greatest political movement of all time. there's never been anything like this in this country. and maybe beyond. and now it's going to reach a new level of importance, because we're going to help our country heal. we're going to help our
6:33 am
country heal. we have a country that needs help. help our country heal is far kinder, gentler language than he was using even a couple of days ago. now, most campaigns are tough with reconciliation, or at least the talk about it after the candidate wins. but as with many things, trump, this one was one of the toughest, making his new language that much more remarkable. and every citizen i will fight for you, for your family and your future. every single day. i will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body, i will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous america that our children deserve and that you deserve. now, vice president harris has not spoken yet. we do expect that later today. again, it wasn't until a few hours ago pennsylvania was declared for trump, and that effectively ended the race. a look at some of the messages coming in on
6:34 am
social media from world leaders congratulating trump. you can see various european leaders, including emmanuel macron, writing in french, viktor orban, that's an interesting one, he is one of the trump's biggest fans and trump likes him, too. out of hungary, looks as if the republicans have been able to flip the senate. the gop will be back in charge there. unclear what's happening in the house and who will be in charge in the house. one of the most common questions i'm getting this morning is what happens now to trump's various criminal cases. to remind you, there are two federal cases brought by special counsel jack smith. two state cases. federal cases are easy. trump's going to be in charge of the person who's in charge of the justice department. he can say, just end those cases. the case brought in the state of georgia over election interference. now that one's a little fuzzy. there is a federal standard that criminal cases can't be pursued against sitting
6:35 am
presidents, but there's no established law preventing fani willis from pursuing a state case. but a separate court has yet to decide whether she can serve as the prosecutor. and we don't expect that answer until next year. and then, of course, there's the new york fraud case and this one. trump's already been convicted but not sentenced. the judge delayed the sentencing. once it seems impossible, he would sentence an incoming president to jail. and so the sentencing will likely be delayed again. laura. we'll just we'll just have to see. there are a lot of things we'll have to see. thank you very much, scott. we are tracking all the local races as well. stick around. at 645 this morning. we'll have an update on the san francisco mayoral race. and for updates on races that matter to you, download our free nbc bay area app. it's available for smartphones. you can find it at your app store. 635 right now in the san jose city councilman is behind bars this morning. it's unclear on what grounds, but we do know that omar torres has been under investigation for allegedly having a sexual
6:36 am
relationship with a minor. today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us live from san jose police headquarters, where we expect an update from them later today. chris. good morning to you, marcus. san jose police say that they will give us more specifics about what led to the arrest of omar torres and why now? we did reach out to omar torres attorney, and he said that he has not yet seen the charges. what we know right now is that omar torres spent the night in the santa clara county jail and could face a judge as early as today for an arraignment. he is being held without bail on a felony complaint. torres has been under investigation for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a man that investigators say started when that man was a minor. san jose police found out about that relationship when torres himself reached out to police for help, saying that the man was blackmailing him over the release of graphic photos. we talked with san jose mayor matt mahan after we learned of torres arrest. he's entitled to due process, but these arrests
6:37 am
are extremely serious, extremely disturbing, and the community deserves to know the truth. the mayor and the city council have been calling for torres's resignation, and yesterday it appears that they got it. according to the san jose city clerk, torri tapper torres did submit a letter of resignation. tapper is expected to release that letter to the public today. torres continues to maintain his innocence. now we are working on a number of fronts on this story, but of course, more immediately we are trying to figure out when torres is going to be in court so that we can also be there. and we are working to find out when the san jose police are going to give us more details about his arrest in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay. all right, chris, we will continue to follow that. thank you. it is 637. more than 2000 north bay pg&e customers are waking up in the dark this morning due to safety related power shut offs. it's all due to those high winds and red flag
6:38 am
conditions leading to elevated fire risk. the outages cover parts of six bay area counties, highlighted by the purple that you see on this map. the threat of shutoffs is expected to continue through tomorrow. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the conditions for us. when are we going to see any improvement? well, the red flag warning continues through tomorrow morning, but the highest wind gusts are hitting us right now and will gradually begin to relax as we go into the afternoon, into the evening. but all of these counties shaded in purple are under that psps warning with a possibility of more power outages than we're seeing right now. and we're still seeing those high winds for most of the upper elevations in mount diablo. you can see the wind is at 42mph. right now. it's at 75 in the north bay and mount saint helena and it's at 18mph for brentwood and vacaville. napa now at 22mph in redwood city. the wind a lot calmer. we're not feeling that as much in a lot of our valleys, and it's in the upper 50s and
6:39 am
all clear with the gradual warm up as we go throughout the day. it will be a nice one for most of us. not as windy in spots like san jose, with a high of 73 degrees, 71 in san francisco with high winds continuing throughout the afternoon and in santa rosa. expect it to be breezy with a high of 75. mike, you've been tracking an alert for highway 92. yes. i'm sorry. it's right behind you, folks. look over here as we make this full to screen. the area i've circled is highway 92 between upper and lower 35. if you know where that is, you travel between half moon bay and 280. that earlier truck fire still has activity and one way traffic control jamming traffic up. if you're heading to or from the coast off of 280, that's on the peninsula side. everything else is pretty much as you would expect between san francisco and the south bay on that side of the bay. east bay on the right side, heading to the top. that's northbound 880. much better traffic flow over the last five minutes. i believe they've cleared two crashes north of here, one at high street that was in your left lanes and the
6:40 am
other at 29th, and also had a one lane blocked. 580 was a much better alternate, but now speeds are improving as you saw from that live camera just off 580. this is in castro valley. we still have fire activity reported on eaton eaton canyon road just north of 580. so watch traffic flow on the surface street. but the freeway past the area is moving just fine through the area there. we're looking at south 680 and towards sunol. you don't see it on this map, but there is still slowing. it looks like a crash at bernal, still blocking one lane. back to you. thanks, mike. 6.39 california voters overwhelmingly approved sweeping changes to get tough on crime. ahead in our decision 2024 coverage, the latest results overnight on that and some other closely watched measures. plus, i'm ginger conejero saab. we're live in san francisco this morning with the latest numbers coming out of the race for san francisco mayor. before we head to break, here's a look at more of the results in key local races. don't forget, you can get all the information

a higher wind. gusts are happening in the hills. it is 54 degrees and all clear and sunshine throughout the day as we warm back up into the low 70s. for this afternoon, we will talk about the wind calming down and better weather ahead for the weekend. coming up in a few minutes. in the hills outside san mateo. it's not the wind, it's the fire. the earlier truck fire leaves traffic control on highway 92 between upper and lower 35. big delays for folks between 280 and half moon bay. other side of the bay. a big delay for south 680 as there's a crash right around bernal, tying up at least one lane. slow off the dublin interchange. thanks so much, kari and mike. it is 644 right now. san francisco voters seem to be signaling a need for change in leadership. we have a live look this morning where a winner in the race for
6:45 am
mayor has still not been called, but one of the key contenders is already conceding defeat. today in the bay ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco this morning. and ginger, we also know that a political outsider now leading the pack. that is true. good morning, marcus and laura. we've been watching this close the campaign and the race for san francisco mayor. pretty closely here in san francisco down to the last minute push from candidates yesterday. it seems to be paying off for daniel lurie this morning. daniel lurie, the political outsider that you just mentioned, marcus is leading the race for mayor after 14 rounds of ranked choice voting. lurie holds 56% of the vote. he's garnered over 108,000 votes. he's followed by incumbent mayor london breed, who holds 43.6 or 44% of that vote. she has close to 84,000 votes. now. mark farrell bowed out of the race late last night. his concession

came as a surprise to many people standing with his wife at his election party, farrell told supporters that voting results do not show a possible path to victory for him. he thanked those who supported him and asked them to stand behind the person who wins. now we don't know officially who that is quite yet, but there was a victorious energy and optimism at danielle lurie's rally in the mission last night after initial results started coming in. here is lurie addressing last night's crowd. the moment that we are in calls for a new era of leadership in city hall, one rooted in accountability, service and change. yes. let me be very clear. this election was never about me. it was always about you. well, optimism still

alive at another party in town that was at mayor. london breed election night party. mayor breed currently in second place, hopeful that the results will swing more in her favor. we got to just kind of take it back, because i don't know if you remember what happened in 2018. i mean, there were several days, even the night of election night, where i was definitely not in the lead. and you see me standing here right now as the mayor of san francisco. now, there are still some other close races in san francisco. the race for different district supervisors, specifically in district one between connie chan and john philhower. there's also another close race in san francisco's district five between nadine preston and bilal mahmood. we can follow that closely on nbcbayarea.com. and as san francisco has ranked choice voting, we still have to wait a little bit longer to get the official results, guys. but those are the latest coming in

in from san francisco the morning after the election. always really gives us all these results as they trickle in. thank you ginger. a windy one. yes you can tell. go bundle up. well, we know voters across california are deciding a total of ten propositions. and today in the bay kohler kira klapper is here as well. she's breaking down some of those results for us, kyra. how's it looking? wel, laura, people likely have heard a lot of chatter about proposition 36. it would increase penalties for drugs and theft. and so far it is passing overwhelmingly. prop 36 will increase sentences for repeat shoplifters, drug dealers in under it. judges also can mandate drug treatment. supporters include small business owners who have been victims of repeated burglaries and smash and grabs. major retailers like walmart, target, home depot also supported prop 36, and it's being projected that proposition three will pass. it would enshrine marriage
6:49 am
equality in the california state constitution. basically, prop three repeals prop eight, which you likely recall was passed by voters back in 2008. it defined marriage as being between a man and a woman back then, but prop three now changes the language in the state constitution, and it reaffirms the right of same sex couples to marry, which, by the way, has been legal in california since 2013. and more locally, we're going to go from state to local for a moment here in san francisco, that fight over the fate of the great highway is being decided by voters through measure k, k would permanently close two miles of the city's great highway to cars from lincoln, which is the street that borders the southern edge of golden gate park all the way down the great highway to sloat, which is where the san francisco zoo is right now. the race is close, but approval is winning. supporters of k say the city needs more parks. they want the great
6:50 am
highway to stay open for pedestrians and bikers, and they want to help preserve the coastline. meanwhile, groups that oppose measure k say it doesn't consider the needs of those who need to drive on that stretch of roadway every day. so again, a lot of things still too close to call. but we know the way many of them are leaning this morning. laura, back to you. all right. a lot to cover there. thanks so much, kyra. it is 649 right now. taking a live look outside across the bay area this morning. we do have that increased risk of fire due to those strong winds and dry conditions, especially in the higher elevations. that is leading to this red flag warning. and it's sticking around. yeah, we'll see that continue through tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. some of the highest wind gusts are happening right now. and a lot of us are not feeling it as much in the valleys. and some of the low lying areas, but that's very typical with some of these wind events that we get this time of year. it is a little bit of a breeze happening in walnut creek, 17 mile per hour winds, 12 mile per hour winds in san jose. and we're at 21 in san

francisco. while our temperatures are in the upper 50s and low 60s. to start, here's a look across the bay area and here's a sampling of how high those winds are gusting. look at this. it just increased to 88 mile per hour gusts. now in mount saint helena. i mean that is really roaring up there. and we're seeing those high wind gusts for parts of the east bay at 49 mile per hour winds in mount diablo, and also for the santa cruz mountains. so it's those higher elevations that are dealing with the very low humidity, the gusty winds. right now in fremont, there is a breeze. it's in the upper 50s and expect a gradual warm up in our temperatures throughout the morning into the afternoon as we head toward the low 70s here, temperature wise, it's going to be really nice and comfortable, but at times i think the high winds will make it feel a little bit cooler. and tomorrow we're looking at much more of the same. although the wind will be calming down, we're still keeping those same highs into the low 70s mid 70s for santa rosa, as well as in parts

of the north bay into friday. looks great leading into the weekend, but we're still in with the high winds for the next several hours. here we are at 11:00 in napa, nearly 40 mile per hour winds there, and about the same for half moon bay. and then later this evening we can see those winds coming in from the north and northeast up to about 14mph near the coast, and then down to about 5 or 6 overnight into early tomorrow. so this pressure gradient increased by high and low pressure really close together. but as high pressure breaks down, we will make way for a couple of those storm systems that have been to the north to move in and a slight chance of rain early next week. so take a look at santa rosa. we're going from highs in the 70s for the next several days to 60s for the weekend, and then more 60s in the forecast for next week, so it will turn cooler mainly after that. rain comes in on monday and our overnight lows will drop down to the low 40s here and in

san francisco. look for a high of 71 today and 60s and more clouds for the weekend. mike, you're saying the wind may have complicated this peninsula fire? that's right. the truck fire. then? it took a long time. we thought they were going to clear it earlier. turns out there was a vegetation fire that was probably sparked by that truck fire on highway 92. i've seen these sensors start to clear at the scene. they're slowing approaching the area, indicating they probably moving that equipment right now, which is what they had told us would be the case. plan on delays through 715 through that area. meanwhile, the other side of the bay, we're looking at a smoother build. 680 still jammed in towards sunol though. back to you. thank you so much, mike. it is 652 and happening now. parents and teachers planning to sound off in response to the closure plan announced this week for san jose's alum rock schools. board members released a list of seven closures and two consolidations next fall as a way to try to cut down on the district's $20 million budget deficit. final approval is still pending. opponents this afternoon plan to march and rally outside one school now
