harris's message to supporters after she conceded the race. plus, legal battle heating up. live report is opening. arguments are set to begin in a case involving oakland. changing the name of its international airport. the reason san francisco officials are putting up a fight. also here is a live look outside for you this morning. we are still under that red flag warning due to the strong winds and fire danger. the preventative steps pg&e is taking this morning and the impact on thousands of customer. this is today in the bay. good thursday morning. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. we'll check in with mike a little later in the newscast. but first let's talk about the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. it has been windy for a lot of those upper elevations, and the fire danger continues for two more hours. and then we'll see the expiration of the red flag warning. and then we will have still some dry and windy conditions at times with
5:02 am
the elevated fire danger, until we get those rain chances coming in ahead. so we're looking at highs today. headed for the low to mid 70s. 73 in novato and napa. 75 in santa rosa and san francisco today headed for the low 70s. it will be in the low 70s as well for the tri-valley and up to 77 today in gilroy. so we are going to see more changes ahead going into the weekend. we'll talk about rain chances moving in before the end of the weekend. that's coming up in the full microclimate forecast. back to you. all right. thanks, kari. well, we are now 74 days away until the inauguration of president elect donald trump. and we are getting a better picture at what his second term in office would look like. now, the president elect is promisino proposing the elimination of the department of education and imposing tariffs on imports. today, president biden is scheduled to address the nation
5:03 am
from the white house for the first time since trump became president elect. in a concession speech, vice president harris urged supporters to stay the course and find common ground. today in the bay's damian trujillo is in washington, d.c, with more on her message. today, the nation awaits a smooth transition of power. and that's exactly what vice president kamala harris promised the country today. rhyne howard. harris was met with thunderous applause at her alma mater, howard university. once a large crowd saw the vice president step on the stage, they burst into cheers. many thanked the vice president for her resiliency and hard work, and it was an emotional occasion for many other supporters who showed up to see her speak. harris said she was conceding the race yesterday but she was not conceding the fight. harris said there has to be loyalty to the constitution, and she leaned on the younger generation to keep the fight alive. on the campaign. i would often say when we fight, we win. but here's the
5:04 am
thing, here's the thing. sometimes the fight takes a while. that doesn't mean we won't win. that doesn't mean we won't win. today, president elect donald trump is undoubtedly making phone calls, looking to see who will be a part of his cabinet. in january, he will become the 47th president of the united states. and this morning, this nation still awaits that smooth transition of power in washington, dc. i'm damian trujillo today in the bay. thank you. damien. well, san francisco election workers will arrive at city hall in just a few hours at 7:00 this morning. they are counting ballots that will eventually decide who will lead the city next. and there's an update later today at the moment, daniel lowery is ahead of incumbent mayor london breed in. i was going to read the numbers to you. 56%. this is in the ranked choice voting race. election officials say workers
5:05 am
have counted more than a third of the total ballots that have been cast so far. we are expecting the first batch of results around four in the afternoon today. that will give us a clearer idea of the standings. political. political experts say it is the insider versus the outsider, with breed finishing out her first full term and lowery, a nonprofit founder, spending $8 million of his own money to finance his campaign. we caught up with him walking through chinatown, thanking supporters. feeling great, feeling great. but more votes to be counted. brie thanked her supporters in an email promising to uplift the city they love, but didn't address the results so far. lowery and mayor breed are expected to address supporters after the new report is posted. well, now to the two major recalls in the east bay. oakland mayor sheng thao could be out of a job right now more than 65% are in favor of recalling the mayor. organizers of the recall blamed how for oakland's ongoing
5:06 am
crime issues and believe that she has made bad business deals, putting the city in financial jeopardy. mayor thao says that she inherited most of those problems, and her administration has made significant progress towards a safer oakland. mayor thao isn't the only elected official in jeopardy of losing her job. alameda county district attorney pamela price might be removed as well. right now, there is a 65% yes vote. price remains optimistic, saying that thousands of ballots still need to be counted. recall supporters accuse price of being too lenient on criminals. now we are tracking many more local races. you can get those updates on our website, as well as downloading our free nbc bay area app. 505 right now, in just a few hours, the fight over the naming of oakland international goes to court today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from the airport this morning. so let's talk a little bit about what's at stake at today's hearing. bo. good morning to you, laura. later this afternoon at 1:00, the city of san francisco will ask a federal judge in san

francisco to force oakland international to stop using the word san francisco bay in its name. you might recall earlier this year that the city and port of oakland, both entities, they changed the name of oakland international behind me to san francisco bay. oakland international airport. now, the city of san francisco has filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to get oakland to stop using again san francisco bay. san francisco city attorney david chu says the name confuses travelers and infringes on the trademark of the city's airport. san francisco international chu's office says it. since the name change in may, people have booked flights to sfo. san francisco international. while intending to travel to the airport formerly known just as oakland international. while others have been directed to the wrong airport by digital assistants or ride hailing services. and its rebuttal to this motion for the injunction, oakland international says san francisco is manipulating results to make it look like
5:08 am
travelers have booked the wrong airport. back in april, san francisco sued oakland ahead of the vote to change the name and oakland filed a countersuit. this, excuse me, denying any trademark violations, saying that this name change was intended to provide the accurate geographic location for the airport, which is along the san francisco bay behind our camera position. as i stand here and looking at it, today's hearing gets underway at 1 p.m. we will be following this story and bring you updates throughout the day. reporting live here at oakland international. bob redell today in the bay. all right, bob, thanks. all right. well, let's take a live look for you. this morning. this is over at key west, florida. tourists and residents there facing the tropical storm conditions as hurricane rafael moves through the gulf. now, rafael made landfall as a category three hurricane yesterday in cuba. powerful winds there knocking out the country's power grid, leaving millions of people in the dark and that storm also causing some flash flooding.
5:09 am
now, this is the latest in a12 punch for cuba. just two weeks ago, hurricane oscar left eight people dead, sadly there. meteorologist kari hall joins us now. she's been tracking the path of this storm. yeah. so as of now, we don't quite know where this storm is going, so it's just going to slowly meander out there in the gulf as we watch this storm. that's been at times picking up some intensity. and so we take a look at the satellite imagery. you can see just how much of that rain is falling over the gulf. it has moved away from cuba, but still some of the rain bands affecting the island there. so as we look at what to expect over the next few days, it is a now category two hurricane that is moving very slowly. and here is a look at the track as once again, it's expected to weaken. and then just kind of wander out there in the gulf for a little while before we get a better idea of exactly where this hurricane may go as it weakens to a tropical storm into the weekend. so we'll continue to monitor that here at home. we
5:10 am
are seeing the high pressure starting to fade, and that will allow for a few storm systems to come in to the bay area going into next week, along with some cooler temperatures and a little bit more rain coming into that forecast. starting up on monday. so i'll be tracking that for you. we'll talk about the timeline coming up. mike has a look at where we may be able to find some lower gas prices. yeah. kari. hey, look, we'll start in vallejo in solano county. a new low price for the bay area. 3.59 in vallejo at national petroleum on springs road. look at that. the best in the east bay. still livermore holding at 3.67. the middle number at springtown gas on bluebell drive at the bottom. here the low has lowered a few cents in the south bay. it's now 3.89 at dimond gas and market on south winchester boulevard. we'll take what we can get. find out what you can get around your gasbuddy.com on the roadways. we're looking at pretty much green sensors around the bay. we'll take you to the north bay. a crash has been cleared. it was actually a car fire south 101 at

but we should be seeing this red flag warning expiring at 7:00. the rest of the day, a lighter wind and temperatures headed for the upper 60s by noon, eventually hitting 71 degrees. we are going to see mild conditions, at least for the next few days. a nice weekend ahead. we'll talk about it coming up and look at this view. we have from emeryville. there's the bay bridge span. i want to point out this set of flashing lights. it's slowly very slowly started moving westbound. no incidents on the chp report, but
5:15 am
the live cameras don't lie. we'll track what delays you might get coming up on the bay bridge. well good morning. very happy thursday to you. it's fed day. look at these numbers. huge rally on the dow. the nasdaq as well. setting all kinds of new records as investors look ahead to a trump white house with less regulation and just really the general relief there will be no court battles, no violence, a peaceful transition of power. now, we've put the ten year back on the board because yields keep rising. and this is because of worries the trump administration will grow. the deficit faster than a harris administration would have. mortgage rates are closely tied to treasury bonds, so we're seeing mortgage rates tick higher even as the fed lowers its interest rates. mortgage rates are related to the fed, but they're more closely related to bonds. the fed, in fact, will announce a

rate decision today, likely lowering them as inflation continues to ease. very close to the fed's target of 2%. if we ignore last week's jobs report, which was skewed by weather and strikes, the economic numbers continue to be very strong. donald trump and his campaign called the american economy a nightmare, said it would get so much better if he were elected. but take a look at what he's inheriting. unemployment near historic lows, inflation almost where we want it within a fraction of a percent. the gdp fastest growing in the western world. gas prices three year low and a record stock market. even before yesterday's rally. now, president elect trump says there's room to grow here, and it would appear investors agree with him. though the national retailers federation again today warned for the second time this week, prices in the stores will rise after the new administration puts those massive tariffs in place. they're already accounting for them. the nrf says as an

example, it expects clothing prices to rise 20%. other news, canada has told tiktok it has to shut down its offices there, send the people home, turn off the lights. the app can still operate for now. america and canada worry the app is a security risk. the idea to shut it down here originated with the first trump administration, but he's since changed his mind. there's a new thing floating around social media about president biden in the election that people google searched him after returning home from the polling place. the google search did biden drop out peaked on election day, with minnesota. of all states leading the search. and yes, by the way, he did. wow, that's so interesting. now, to be fair, google doesn't give us the raw numbers, only that it peaked right. you know, so we don't know how many people were maybe not paying that much attention to what was happening. yes, it could have been just a few. i mean, i know we're in the thick of the news right now, everything going on all the time, but that was kind of a

valuing the slippers at $3.5 million and there are only four other pairs. i know you're thinking about the fbi looking for slippers. that's kind of interesting. all right. 518 to you this morning. and you know what? this weekend there is one post show election which will surely make america laugh. hey, bill. hey what's up man? good to see you, man. yeah. i'm so excited you're hosting election week. this is big. yeah, i know, i cannot believe that. one yeah i know right. dude. never in a million years. in a million years did i ever think that. i mean, and it was late to unbelievable. i like what they did that. okay. so that was bill burr. he's sharing a not so private moment in the first promo for this weekend's snl comedian will host the post-election episode along with musical guest mc g. and you can imagine the post-election content they're going to have. oh my gosh, i can only imagine that they're writing and rehearsing right now. just trying to get those laughs so we

can just, you know, our stomachs will be hurting later, i'm sure. all right. so look, you can catch saturday night live right here on nbc bay area. it's at 830. you can also catch that encore after nbc bay area news at 11. don't forget, this is on saturday. yeah. yeah, exactly. it's perfect because you can start watching at 830. and if you happen to fall asleep, you can wake up. and i like that catch up again. not that that happens at all on a weekend. never. the rangers we have. all right. let's get a look at the forecast that red flag warning is lifting this morning. yes. so great news. the wind is starting to calm a bit this morning. still breezy on some of our mountains. i was just checking in the north bay. it's still at about 35 mile per hour. winds up there. and the red flag warning we can see that there's more of an outline here. it's not just blanketing the entire bay area, but we are seeing some of our higher elevations near the coast. some of the hills will be still included until 7:00, as that's where we're still seeing those wind gusts and low humidity. a look at our
5:21 am
temperatures for today. we're headed back to some of the same numbers we've seen throughout the week. it's been pretty nice. despite the breezy winds, and we will see a high of 71 in oakland today, 73 in novato and in half moon bay, 68 degrees. now going into the day tomorrow. still not much of a change here. upper 60s, low 70s and on saturday is looking just as nice, but maybe a touch cooler as we will see a few more clouds coming in, but we'll also see the approach of some more rain moving into the bay area, possibly late saturday night into sunday. that's not expected to amount to much and probably won't affect any of your weekend plans, but then we have a more widespread swath of rain coming in with a cold front arriving right on veteran's day, and that's going to bring in some more measurable rain. but then there's another system behind that that will drop in some more rain toward the end of next week. so it looks like we're going to enter into a more active storm pattern here by monday into tuesday, we're
5:22 am
looking at parts of the north bay measuring possibly about three quarters of an inch of rain to an inch of rain near the coastline and much of the rest of the bay area. about a quarter inch of rain or less for the cierra this weekend, starting late on saturday night into sunday and then tapering off on monday, we could see anywhere from four to possibly eight inches of snow for the sierra. we were looking forward to seeing also more snow getting going for the month of november, and here in the bay area, we're going to see temperatures in the low 70s extend into the weekend for some of our warmer inland spots, like brentwood, and then a little bit cooler next week. and if you are making weekend plans, you might want to try to get them in this weekend, because next weekend it's going to be much cooler. and we're looking at a breezy wind to start out today. calmer winds through the afternoon and cooler temperatures going into the weekend. while san francisco will be in the low 70s, today will be in the mid 60s for the weekend. mike, you're tracking
5:23 am
something on the bay bridge. yeah. now, the only thing we had mentioned in the chp report was a wind advisory. as you've been talking about, kari, the mateo bridge, dumbarton bridge is all mentioned. no issue that would require flashing lights. as kerry was giving her report, the flashing lights appear to have cleared right here from the bend and the tower getting westbound. it may be going through the tunnel right now. i'm watching with a steady flow of traffic that continues. there may be a little slowing that continues for a few minutes right here on those sensors, some sort of disabled vehicles. what i'm imagining taking care of by the bridge crew. no alerts. we have west 37 showing a little slowdown on highway four, and those are pretty typical for this time. on a thursday. again, the bay bridge should have an incident clearing from the span itself anywhere south of there, green sensors throughout the east bay, south bay, and of course the peninsula. back to you. thanks so much, mike. six oh no, that's wishful thinking. it is. 523 just so you know, but can you stick around because we're going to help our climate in crisis. we're going to tell you about the new way san francisco leaders, they're

5:32 am
wind gusts. so the red flag warning will be only highlighting some of those higher elevations. and near the coast where we still have that high fire danger, low relative humidity and wind gusts this morning. so as we take a look at napa, here's what to expect. a very chilly morning with 40s to start at noon. it's already in the upper 60s and we're headed for the low 70s for today. a really nice afternoon with a calmer wind and more sunshine. we can enjoy it without the worry of seeing those high wind gusts that may spread any fires quickly. so we'll continue to monitor those conditions. mike, we had some early slowing on the bay bridge. yeah, there was something going on from about start to finish. it was about 15 minutes heading in toward the treasure island tunnel. i believe a bridge crew was able to take it without a chp incident. although look, see there some flashing lights heading westbound. i'll continue to follow this. things are smoothing out on the sensors, although there's the build at the same time at the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights are not turned on early, but we do see a backup a little earlier than we usually do. so we'll track again the activity flashing lights on the westbound

bay bridge. you do see the slower sensors, which are moving. there's a typical build for the north bay and the east bay. over in contra costa county highway four. nothing outside of those areas as far as any commute build just yet. back to you. thanks, mike. it is 5.32 this morning. we're getting word that president biden will speak about the election results just a few hours from now. 8:00 our time. scott mcgrew with us this morning. okay. scott, we also expect him to speak about the transition between the administration and the upcoming trump administration. so important, these transitions, right? not just the peaceful transfer of power, but down to the nuts and bolts, like, here are the keys to the supply closet level. this stuff is important. it's amazing. it happens at all. on january 20th, one person is in charge of the most powerful country in the world at breakfast, and a totally different person, often with completely different ideas, is in charge by lunchtime. and then there's the important private meeting between the outgoing and the incoming president. this is the most recent example we have. trump
5:34 am
coming in, obama going out because trump did not do the same for joe biden. a break in tradition that dates back to herbert hoover. biden is already invited trump to the white house for that meeting. we won't know the specifics of what is said. it is secret. but we do know the last time trump was given the briefing, a lot of it was concern over north korea. now, in her concession speech yesterday, vice president harris also touched on how important it is to get this transition right. here she is speaking to the crowd in washington. now, i know folks are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now. i get it, but we must accept the results of this election. earlier today, i spoke with president elect trump and congratulated him on his victory. i also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition, and that we
5:35 am
will engage in a peaceful transfer of power. this is, by the way, the first time a presidential candidate has made a concession speech in eight years, the last by hillary clinton. harris also encouraged her supporters to continue their causes. the important thing is don't ever give up. don't ever give up. don't ever stop trying to make the world a better place. you have power. you have power. and don't you ever listen when anyone tells you something is impossible because it has never been done before. bloomberg. the first to report jack smith is winding down his criminal cases against president elect trump. justice department policy says you can't prosecute a sitting president, so there's no point. smith investigating trump's interference in the 2020 election and the theft and mishandling of classified

were going to do that. that we know. all right. thanks, uc bery students held a demonstration last night in opposition of president elect donald trump. and one of their biggest concerns is trump. not coming up with a solution to end the ongoing war in gaza. that demonstration, taking place on the steps of sproul plaza. this is in uc berkeley and including a brief appearance from students supporting trump. some cal students have expressed frustration with the current biden administration over their handling of the current war with gaza. when it comes with palestinians. i don't think that he will be able to provide a prominent resolution to the situation going on between israel and in gaza. trump is probably going to be better for the area. just historically, if you look at the four years of his term versus the four years of biden's term, and that's that's where i stand. i think trump's going to stand by israel. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is calling trump's election win history's greatest comeback. one israeli official telling nbc news that they think netanyahu might try

5:39 am
average is 456. alameda county 464 481. in san francisco. these are all higher than the state average of 425, and way higher than the national average of $3.11 per gallon. now, members of the california air resources board are preparing to vote tomorrow on an update to the state's clean air rules, specifically, the low carbon fuel standard. here's the issue hitting the goal of cutting emissions to nearly half of what we were at in the 1990s. by 2030, could mean higher gas prices. now, while the air resources board hasn't issued an updated cost estimate for the consumer, their last one was $0.47 per gallon. by next year. the state's nonpartisan legislative analyst's office, the lao, has said it could be up to $0.20 a gallon. now, when asked about whether high gas prices are the strategy to force more of us to use less gas, she

explained, the chairperson explained that it's to push lower carbon choices because fossil fuels have a higher carbon intensity. the fossil fuel producers need to take steps to comply with the regulation and those steps result in increased variety of fuels available and overall lower. the carbon emitted throughout our transportation sector. now, obviously, the california air resources board is under a lot of pressure, not just from the governor, but from other lawmakers and from consumers as well. that vote was delayed. back in march, but now it is set to happen tomorrow. and that's happening in riverside in campbell. kris sanchez today in the bay. looks like we're going to have to be efficient when it comes to running those errands. thanks, chris. happening today. parents in san jose plan to hit the streets to rally against planned school closures. parents planning to gather outside of the berryessa union school district offices at 4:00 this

southern california, as we're still getting those high wind gusts there. as we take a closer look at the hour by hour wind gusts forecast in that area of that fire, we're still looking at some of the mountain wind gusts at 30 to 40mph into the next few hours, but this afternoon it is expected to calm down, which will be great news for trying to help contain the fire. but we're all very critically dry and looking at this time of year when the vegetation is as dry as it can get, we're still going to have a breezy wind to start out this morning in san jose. we're in the low 50s and then headed for the low 70s. overall, though, it will be a very pleasant afternoon with sunshine and most of our temperatures reaching into the 70s for today and the next few days, we'll talk about when the rain finally comes back in a few minutes and mike, you're seeing an early backup for the bay bridge. yeah, thursday is at 542. we shouldn't see the full toll plaza, but it is full because the metering lights were activated about 8 or 9 minutes earlier. there were incidents on the span. now the
5:43 am
span itself, we can see it moving smoothly from our live camera from emeryville. there are some flashing lights and something hanging folks up right here for a bit of time to get over to the treasure island area, we saw two more sets of flashing lights. no incident reported by chp, and now traffic is starting to move more smoothly. there may be activity at the base of the off ramp there at treasure island, if that's where they removed the vehicle. still watching. the early backup is at the toll plaza. the span itself will catch up with your time. a smooth drive here for highway 37 and also highway four, but both are showing the build up for the typical thursday morning commute. we're looking south of there and no major alerts. the tri-valley still moves at speed. it's 880 coming off the castro valley. y southbound slows out of san leandro down through fremont, through hayward, and in toward fremont. pretty typical. the south bay's first slowing north 101 kicks in right on schedule as you're traveling north toward oakland road tonight. no, you may slow down a bit for sharks fans heading over to shark tank. the game's at 730. again, always looking for a victory. mclain i think is back in the lineup. we're over here.
5:44 am
and this is also in the lineup all week. daytime closures between sanborn and redwood gulch. that's for highway nine. back to you. thanks so much, mike. a mountain rescue caught on camera head this morning on today in the bay. the new video showing the moments local crews helped rescue an injured hiker. i'm ginger conejero saab in san francisco, where a holiday tradition returns to the city just less than 50 days before christmas. up ahead, we'll tell you what officials are doing to reaffirm the sense of public safety. stay with us. you're watching today in the bay, but also coming up a shocking announcement from the australian olympic breakdancer who went viral over the summer. keep it here. you're watching today in the
5:47 am
for another hour and 15 minutes until this red flag warning expires. it starts out chilly and the wind is definitely calmer in berkeley this morning compared to yesterday. and as we go throughout the late morning into the afternoon, a nice warm up with lots of sunshine. we'll take a look ahead to the weekend forecast and a more active storm pattern coming up. and getting more active here to oakland. 880 southbound with those headlights in toward hayward and slowing on the nimitz. but northbound, those taillights, an early backup, formed at the bay bridge after a couple of sets of flashing lights. no problems on
5:48 am
the span knibb, but that backup did fill in the toll plaza. just allow a couple extra minutes. thanks so much, kari and mike. it is 547 right now. new video shows the chp making an emergency rescue by air on the peninsula. it happened yesterday on montara mountain in pacifica. the chp says they stepped in after a person got hurt. helicopter managed to hoist the individual to safety and eventually to an ambulance. no word on their condition this morning. thursday night football returns tonight. and the today show is getting us ready for the action ahead. this morning on today's nfl series inside the game. kaylee hartung is actually taking us on a journey. she's taking a look at the broadcast boot camp for nfl players. she's showing us how some of those players make that jump from the field to the broadcast booth. she's actually speaking with philadelphia eagles star defensive end brandon graham, who's actually interested in exploring a second career beyond the field. does this feel in
5:49 am
some ways like starting all over again? oh, yeah. like like a rookie all over again. you ain going to get it all. you know, right in the beginning. but just take it one day at a time and enjoy the whole process. practice makes better. look, this is the first time the nfl has let tv cameras inside these rooms. and it's all coming up for you. this morning on today at 7:00, right after us here on today in the bay. so look out for him. but don't expect to see one of breakdancing's breakouts at future olympic games or any breaking competitions for that matter. just enjoy this video right now. you may remember 37 year old rachel gunn, the australian break dancer who made headlines during the paris game. well, she's retiring. she initially planned to keep on competing, but she said it was just too upsetting after she was ridiculed on social media for her olympic performance. she says the level of scrutiny was just too much. she also defended her performance, saying she's thankful for the support that
5:50 am
she's received from others in the sport. well, she can say what many of us can say. she's an olympian. exactly. there you have it. take that. all right, well, maybe we have a shot here. many olympics. anyway, tis the season for family fun. returning to san francisco over at union square ice rink. it is now open. you know, it's one thing. you think you look great, but maybe not. so we need some practice. but we've got some time. let's check in with today in the bay. ginger conejero saab live this morning on. they're really stepping up security as well. they want to make sure that people feel safe when they head out there. that's right. laura and marcus. and you talked about those olympic dreams. i think mine on the ice skating rink have all been long gone. they kept me away from that this year. but there was a good turnout for the opening of the holiday ice rink at union square. it's a holiday tradition that many are familiar with, but one of the focuses also this year is on public safety. i'm going to go back to last night's turnout here at union square for
5:51 am
the beginning of the holiday season. whether you are someone who makes skating a holiday tradition or not. now, the hope, however, goes beyond the fun. safety is a key concern during the holidays. the most recent high profile crime came last month, when would be robbers attempted to crash their car through the front door of louis vuitton, which is just literally across the street from union square. there they did so with police stationed literally a block away, so officers responded quickly and scared off the attempted robbers who drove off. nothing was stolen. yeah, there's been some news as of late. that's okay, because the safest place in san francisco is union square, and that ice rink right now is one of the safest ice rinks around. and that sense of safety was important to emphasize. police officers were on the ice last night in skates, reinforcing their presence days after that car crash into louis
5:52 am
vuitton, mayor london breed announced additional crime fighting policies. now, public safety is a top issue, has been a top issue for san franciscans, especially when they went to the polls just to another update on that, i know we're still keeping an eye on the numbers from the election. there are still 157,000 ballots that need to be counted. the department of elections here in san francisco says that there will be an update later this afternoon at 4 p.m. so far, we have two contenders still left in that race. daniel leary with 56% of the vote and incumbent mayor london breed with 44%. we're going to be watching out for that update at four later on this afternoon. we're live in san francisco. ginger conejero saab today in the bay. all right. crammed a lot of information in that last ice skating safety and the mayor's race. thank you. all things san francisco, ginger. we appreciate it. that was great. and a lot of folks probably want to get out there on the rink this weekend. yeah, it's going to be a nice
5:53 am
one. cool temperatures. and it kind of feels like ice skating weather. at least it will as we go into the next few days and high temperatures there in the upper 60s, a lot of sunshine and then cooling down quickly this evening, heading down to the upper 50s by 7:00. if you're in san jose, want to go to the sharks game? it's going to be in the upper seconds to start out later this evening, and then lower 50s as you're heading out of the sap center. so maybe layer up. we also have restaurant week starting tomorrow in san francisco. it's going to be in the upper seconds and sunny a few more clouds coming in on saturday, but still pretty nice. and sunday 66 for that high temperature. and then we have veterans day. the parade on monday will have to closely watch the forecast because we will have a chance of rain coming in as it starts at noon. there may be some showers, so we'll of course keep you updated throughout the weekend. today we're looking at highs in the low to mid 70s and this is the kind of weather we'll see continue for the next few days. not much of a change with low
5:54 am
70s in the inland valleys. and then we'll see that high pressure breaking down, finally allowing for some more active storm patterns to come into the west coast. for the bay area, there will be a slight chance of rain early on sunday. doesn't look like a lot of rain there. and then another wave of some more widespread, more measurable rain on monday. and once again, that's veteran's day, so we'll have to watch out for the outdoor activities. and then on thursday, another storm system coming in. so looking at what to expect over the next few days, these may be the warmest days. we see in quite a while, with a high today of about 75 for some of the inland areas, the wind calming down, the sunshine continues, but it will be cooler for the weekend, with upper 60s and low 70s and rain coming in with much lower temperatures on monday. mike, you're starting out with a look at the drive through richmond. yeah, but i want to follow up with that cold weather you're talking about late next week. i'm watching friday because we're opening the ice skating rink at bishop ranc, so we'll watch that closely. carry over here, richmond bridge
5:55 am
shows more volume coming in through the area. no surprises, but we look for any shift when things back up early at the bay bridge, as they did earlier incidents did clear the span. it's looking pretty normal now for the drive across the span itself. the backup standard would have filled in the toll plaza by now, and it has one more note getting over toward that richmond bridge where we started with that live shot. there is a report of a car fire over there. as you're approaching. so watch the area coming off the east shore freeway heading toward the toll plaza shouldn't be a problem. no slowing shows up and no injuries reported. there's a typical build in toward richmond for west 80, of course. highway 37 holding steady just the build out of vallejo and into concord, out of pittsburgh and bay point. steady slowing continues. now you see 242 with the slower drive, all this traffic heading down through smoothly at the walnut creek interchange, we're looking toward the 680 corridor, which moves very smoothly down, including sunol and down toward the south bay. the buildup is over here. castro valley y continued slowing for southbound 880 down into hayward. and now a little blip here and there
5:56 am
across the san mateo bridge. that would be the typical pattern east bay funneling across to the peninsula with no delays over here for 101. in the south bay, we had that continued build for 101 northbound vasco road looking great and easy drive out of contra costa county via that route. back to you. thanks, mike. well, happening now, the high profile murder trial for nima momeni will get underway later this morning in san francisco. he's accused of killing cash app co-founder bob lee. yesterday, jurors heard from a san francisco police sergeant questioning by his defense team, focusing on details surrounding warrant's cell phone exchanges and interviews. prosecutors believe that he fatally stabbed lee over a dispute surrounding his sister. the defense claims that their client killed the tech executive in self-defense. the trump transition is now underway. ahead at 6:00. take you live to washington, d.c. this morning, breaking down the process with just 74 days to go until trump returns to the white house. plus, the legal battle between sfo and the oakland airport over a name change where
