one includes farhad shakeri believed to be at large in iran and two men in new york now in custody. according to court documents, shakeri was asked by iranian officials to surveil president trump and come up with a plan for assassination. shakeri lived in the u.s. for years and spoke multiple times to federal agents over the last few weeks. the charges announced just days after mr. trump's election win as the president-elect and his transition team are busy working on appointments and democrats, of course, are trying to regroup. former house speaker nancy pelosi reflected on the loss in the new york times interview blaming president biden for dropping out of the race too late and the open primary. now, republicans are looking to fill mr. trump's cabinet with a lot of attention surrounding the roles focused on the nation's security and intelligence, and, a lot of speculation around the influence and potential role of

elon musk who is in the room with president-elect trump on election night and speaking on the phone with ukrainian president zelenskyy during a congratulatory turn. laura. >> and now the election interference case in washington. >> reporter: we just heard about this yesterday, laura. the office of special counsel jack smith saying they are hitting pause to figure this out. saying they will decide by december 2nd on the federal charge. the doj has a long standing policy of not following up with a sitting president. the case in new york where mr. trump was convicted back in may, but not yet sentenced.

ultimately, laura, all four of the cases will go away by the time president-elect trump takes office again in january. laura. >> that sentencing set for november 26th. the real question mark. marissa, thank you. we turn to the balance of power in congress will the snoet will have a republican majority, the house is still undecided. we have julie tsirkin with more in washington. >> reporter: good morning, peter. this morning, more than a dozen races are still under called. why? votes are still being counted. republicans will control the senate with the biggest margin in years, we don't have an answer on the house. before the election, republicans held a narrow majority and both parties flipped seats on tuesday. no matter who gets control, it will continue to be a very slim majority. those uncalled races in the house are considered battleground states with deep blue california. these purple districts could help shape president-elect's

second term. he is promising a big agenda, trump, that is. he will need a house including transforming the tax code and securing the southern border and federal regulations. in the senate, republicans will have 52 seats and possibly up to 54 once all races are called and giving trump more power than during his first term. >> julie, walk us through this. there are decisions that need to be made in terms of who will be the new majority leader. how is donald trump playing a role in making that pick? >> reporter: that's a great question. some republican senators are asking trump to stay out of it. including senator john thune, who is the frontrunner. he urged the president-elect not to weigh in. of the three who want the top job, thune gets along with trump the least. john cornwyn has broken with him

in the past. the most loyal is rick scott who just won election in florida. he tried for this job before challenging mcconnell two years ago and losing. whoever it is, they just have to be loyal to trump. senators meet on wednesday to vote by secret ballot as they do after every election. that means president trump won't actually know who voted for whom. peter. >> we will wait and see what happens. julie tsirkin in washington. thank you. let's turn overseas for the horrific attack on israeli soccer fans in amsterdam. the local mayor saying they were targeted because they were jewish. we have meagan fitzgerald with more. meagan, what more do we know? >> reporter: guys, good morning to you. we know fans are back home in israel following the emergency flights taking them from amsterdam back home following officials calling anti-semitic events that we saw fill the streets here in amsterdam over

the last several days. it all came to a violent outburst thursday night after a soccer match with a local dutch team. video shows fans of the attack after the game. fireworks launched. people on scooters attacks fans running away. the police chief says tensions were running high before the game on thursday. social media footage shows businesses and attacking a local taxi and tearing down a palestinian flag and chanting, death to arabs and the reference to the year-long war in gaza. tensions in the war are fuelling the attacks we are seeing in the streets. many israelis we have been speaking to here on the ground say they left them fearful. this is reminding them of the past of jews in europe on the anniversary of the weekend kristallnacht. we have been seeing, you know,

lack of rain in spots is fueling the fire conditions you heard us talking about. across the nation, nearly 90% of the lower 48 in drought conditions. it is not the intensity of the drought that is impressive, it is the fact it is widespread. specifically across the northeast, we have seen that extreme portion of the drought expand into new jersey. we have a 57% range of moderate drought. in desperate need of some of this rain. unfortunately, we don't have a lot in sight. the red flag warnings from boston to new york and hartford included as well. we have the strong wind gusts. 30 to 35-mile-an-hour winds possible across the region today. not hard for any of t

a november 9th. i'm kira klapper for the first time in history, oakland residents have voted out their mayor, and late yesterday, mayor sheng thao seemed to accept the results of her recall. the latest round of results was released late yesterday, showing 64% of oakland residents want her out, 36% saying they want her to stay. in a statement, the mayor said, quote, i am deeply proud of the progress we created together and i'm committed to ensuring we stay on track by supporting a smooth transition. it isn't about me. it never has been. it has always been about oakland and the changes we have enacted in these two short years will be felt for generations to come. torri is the first hmong american woman to become the mayor of a major american city, and says it has been the honor

that benefitted higher income americans. do we expect this to be extended? >> it has been impacting a lot of people when you look at what the lower rates noent people, particularly higher income people seeing the rate drop interest 39.6 to 37. higher standard deduction and higher tax credit. all of those things important to people. some people concerned about the cap on the state and local property taxes of $10,000. that is something he will rethink that. many provisions he wants to extend. that's going to take approval from congress and we still have uncertainty with the house whether that will happen. the thing that may trip it up is the federal deficit. we don't want to make that higher. that's a lot to consider even though trump certainly wants to extend the 2017 tax cuts and he talked about no tax on tips and no tax on social security benefits. again, congress has to weigh in. >> trump campaigned on tariffs. he says foreign countries will

foot the bill. this is a tax on u.s. consumers, basically. what is the impact? >> it is a tax on imported products. the idea is this is going to bring for u.s. industries, those products here. not undercut american companies. a lot of ceos will go to other countries to do this even though the universal tariff could be 60% from china. it could raise prices for consumers and the tax foundation says it could be as much as $1,200 on a household and a 20% tariff could mean as much as $2,000 in taxes for a household. that is something to consider. >> sharon, taxes, tariffs, we can't control that. >> no. >> talk to us about some practical things that people can do right now that they do have

this year's tree was planted eight years after that and planted by the very family that's donating the tree today. a gift to all of us that has a lot of meaning for them. the berkshires in western massachusetts, are a sprawling outdoor art gallery and this is the masterpiece deeply rooted in the albert family yard. >> how does it feel to be picked? >> i consider it to be one of the great of the honors. >> earl and his wife were newlyweds in 1966. they added the tree a year later. in 1967, it was about waist high. now 57 years late are and the norway spruce is 74-feet tall. >> we used to decorate it.

last night, the california air resources board approved new clean air standards that will impact you at the gas pump. the proposal faced fierce criticism from lawmakers because of the board's lack of transparency on how the cost would be passed on to consumers. the board approved new clean air standards for cutting carbon emissions, so that means gas prices are going to go up. the estimates vary from a few cents a gallon to as much as $0.85 a gallon. the vote capped a 12 hour long meeting. the goal of the program update is to continue reducing fossil fuels, pushing california towards a clean air future. here's a look at gas prices right now for california drivers. according to triple a. the national average is 3.9.
