bit easier. jordan mason entered as the fourth leading rusher in the nfl. he had one carry for five yards. isaac guerendo one carry, zero yards. puzzling, puzzling a little bit to me because i thought they would mix in mason a little bit more. there was an injury situation, but that was not mentioned by kyle shanahan in the postgame press conference. so it was just, hey, we got christian mccaffrey back. we're going to use him. and to kyle shanahan's defense, i think he needs me to do it. he did say over the course of the week that they were not going to, in essence, baby christian mccaffrey or kind of ease him back into the mix. he's fully healthy. they were going to use him as they normally did and they did. so that's when you have christian mccaffrey. he's that much better. he makes you that much better. use him when you have the ability. time for our zenni must see moment. it is brought to you by zenni. it is the official eyewear of the san francisco 49ers. fourth quarter niners trailing 1713. brock purdy, you heard rod mention
9:01 pm
what a game he had. now rod already outlined how great this play was by kittle. how great was this play by purdy i mean that's about a nine second hold the ball and scramble right there. it's just it's an amazing play again by two of the niners star players. that's what you have them for. that's what you need them for those types of situations. purdy 25 of 36 353 yards two touchdowns no ints. and kittle. the three receptions for 57 yards. all right. rod and i will take a break when we come back. you do not like to see this on the sideline. these are two guys that are on the same team. one is taking a swing at another. that should not happen. why it went down and does it really mean anything? rod and i continue in a m jen b asks, "how can i get fast download speeds while out and about?” jen, we've engineered xfinity mobile with wifi speeds up to a gig, so you can download and do much more all at once. it's an idea that's quite attractive.

between san francisco and tampa bay, special teams and red zone. the issue for san francisco, otherwise they they really dominated it. and it brings us to our red zone drive of the game, which is presented by toyota. and it was jake moody with a little taste of redemption, 44 yards. he's got to kick a game winning field goal or else it's going to be an abysmal day. it was an abysmal day anyway, until this went through a late comeback. and they defeat the bucs 2323 of six. a field goal kicker. that's not a very good stat. in fact, special team woes have been an issue for the 49ers. a miss 49 yard field goal attempt, a missed 50, a missed 44, a muffed punt in the third quarter. rod, i'm going to give you some time with this. how big a concern is special teams maybe specifically kicking. then you can address the muffed punt. and what do the niners do about it. it's a it's
9:05 pm
a massive concern. their special teams to put it mildly, is unreliable. and it's not just today and it's not just the missed field goals by jake moody. although that is the main problem because you're costing yourself points. but at times over the course of the season and we're just now past the halfway point, the niners have had a kick punt return, a kickoff return for a touchdown. they've had punts blocked cut, punt coverage and kick coverage has been abysmal all season long. so i don't know what the threshold is for the niners to where they have to say, we need to do something about these special teams. we need to fix it. how long do they think they can go with unreliable, special teams across the board? ultimately, jake moody got the job done. that's the most important thing. but he has proven to be not just in this game, not just in this season, but since they drafted him, he's proven to be unreliable. i don't know if the niners are good enough to deal with and thrive with having an unreliable kicker and unreliable special teams,
9:06 pm
but what is the fix? i which problem do you fix first? well, do you fix the kicking? do you fix the coverage? do you fix the mental mistakes? probably the kicking because the niners are in so many close games this year, they're not blowing teams out. that's what i'm saying. in the past. you're right. so the difference between three points or one point or whatever is going to be a factor for the 49ers probably for the rest of this season. yeah. so i would think kicking has to be number one. it's okay. so now do you go and get yourself another kicker. they've done that before you know mainly due to injury and oh yeah by the way why did jake moody and another kicker get injured? because they were trying to tackle. because the kick coverage and the punt coverage has been so bad. right. so fix the problem. fix the problems. plural. now. okay. that one problem leads to another. you don't want altercations on your sideline. you certainly don't want players pushing or shoving. and deebo samuel doing that to the face of another. now here's what we think probably went down right.
9:07 pm
and you and i weren't there, but deebo probably went up to moody and said, you know what? look, man, whatever. but make your kicks right. and the long snapper peppers said no. and here's what they all said after. and then rod will give me his thoughts. normally i don't even get like that. but just like frustrated in the heat of battle, you know, with a close game. and you know, i kind of got out of character a little bit. but, you know, i'll talk to moody and, you know, we'll get past it. yeah. it's you know, it's an emotional game and stuff like that happens all the time. and, you know, you just move past it. we won. so that's that's all that matters. the guy that should have the issue is not moody. it's pepper. it's pepper. right. because peppers long snaps were fine. and he's the one that got shoved. ultimately, this is nothing. it's not a good look, but i don't believe that this is anything that's going to fracture the team. this team is far too together. as far too many leaders. and it's far too
9:08 pm
good to allow something like this to happen. and this is a part of football. there are disagreements on the sidelines that we don't see. so i don't believe that this is a big deal. however, keep your hands to yourself. that's the ultimate thing. keep it. it's just it's not a good look, but it's not something that's going to be an issue for this team. you can say what you want. these are football players. absolutely. and guys say a lot of things. no problem. keep your hands to yourself. it's an emotional game. and don't and don't go at the long snapper who was snapping the ball. fine. right. i get it. he was sticking up for the kicker, which he should have done. all right, when we come back, rattle. tell me if seattle is going to be a problem at all. they weren't much of a problem when they played in week six. will they be when they continue? rod and i'll put a bow on sports sunday, presented by xfinity. but first a preview of the news which is next. here's gio. hey, dave. coming up in just minutes. we're tracking rain. headed our way. the updated hour by hour timeline on when you could see showers in your neighborhood, and only on nbc bay area.

for the seahawks. 49ers talk thursday 49ers now game plan on friday and rod and carlos and dante 49ers pregame live at 12 on sunday and postgame immediately following the game. rod, we mentioned week six. they beat seattle 3624. there any concerns about them here? i'm not concerned about seattle. my only concern it's the niners because it's going to be hard to win football games with unreliable special teams. as we talked about, i'd like to see better tackling out of the niners. they got loose with that today in tampa after being much better tackling against the cowboys. but ultimately this is a seattle team that is going to be without dk metcalf because
9:12 pm
he's hurt and geno smith, he will throw touchdowns. he will also throw interceptions. that's in the niners favor. yeah. and if he's stiff arms you nick bosa. just throw him to the ground. don't let the guy ride your stiff arm because you could have snapped his arm like a twig. the news is coming up next with jason terry for
