san rafael camera that we showed. and we are seeing some light showers moving into the north bay, but the heavier rain still well to the north of us. and we're going to see that rolling in by late morning into the early afternoon. so as we take a look live right now in san jose, showers coming in today as well as some very snowy cierra cierra travel snow levels coming down to about 6000ft, and the rain chances will continue midweek into the end of the week. so right now we're starting out cool temperatures headed for the low 60s in dublin 62 today, 64 novato. and for tomorrow it's going to be just a touch warmer in some spots as we are going to see some highs in the mid 60s. so i'll be tracking that rain. we'll go with our hour by hour forecast coming up in a few minutes. mike, you've got a already. a couple of crashes out there. yeah. traffic is very light right now. but the crashes there are a couple. this one i just learned is only allowing one lane through. it's counter commute. in fact, both crashes are counter commute in the east bay eastbound 24. as

you're just passing wilder road. you see folks slowing on the approach to this crash. i'm just told only one lane is open. as you're traveling east toward the caldecott tunnel, we'll follow this. hopefully, that quick traffic break will clear shortly. we're looking over here toward eastbound highway four as well, coming over towards somersville. another crash reported there. car went off the shoulder into onto the edge of the roadway and onto the dirt. so do be careful as you pass by. there will be a crew there. here are the conditions out here. approaching the bay bridge. there's the berkeley curve water on the lens. definitely water on the roadway as well. use caution folks, back to you. thanks a lot, mike. caught in the act, a fed up south bay homeowner takes action. this is after being repeatedly targeted by mail thieves. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us in our newsroom with the story. you'll only see on nbc bay area. and kris, this is really interesting. the victim here provided some critical evidence. if an arrest can be made. oh for sure. so that sunnyvale homeowner tells us that his mail was stolen twice in two days last week. and

swirling over what the future may hold, especially when it comes to his response to the investigation surrounding his first term and the future of the u.s. supreme court. today in the bay's chris pallone has more from washington, where reeling democrats are bracing for trump's next moves. there ain't no doubt president elect trump completing a sweep of all the battleground states in this election, winning arizona this weekend and touting his success on social media, writing thank you god. one all swing states and the popular vote by almost 7 million voters with just over two months before inauguration day, mr. trump is filling out his cabinet naming former immigration and customs enforcement director tom homan to be the, quote, border czar, putting him in charge of deporting immigrants who crossed the border illegally. there's no price tag on protecting the safety and security of our country and our citizens. president trump is going to enforce the law, and we haven't had that over the last four years. as the department of justice winds down, investigations into the president elect's first term,

in. and we're going to once again see some of the heavier rain reserve for the next 2 to 3 hours. first starting in the north bay and then continuing to sweep its way across much of the rest of the bay area as we go toward 10 to 11:00, some pretty widespread rain, and then by noon, it's starting to taper off for the north bay while still raining from san francisco to the east bay on southward. and we are going to gradually start to see this rain moving out for the afternoon into the evening. and we're looking at some clearing skies later on tonight, so i'll continue to track this. we'll talk more about how much rain you can expect as we go through the forecast. that's coming up in just a few minutes. mike has been tracking where we can find some lower gas prices. yeah, we have good news at the gas pump. at least at one station. we're going to start the week with the best. one of the best in the state. now, livermore has made the chart. it's got the outlier there at 355 at springtown gas on bluebell drive. same station we talked about last week. much better price. we're looking at
5:11 am
the solano county next. fairfield has the best price with 385 at bond fair market on walters road. and then the same lows in the south bay. 385 at cupertino, car wash in cupertino on north deanza boulevard. remember you can check gasbuddy.com. there have been some changes over the weekend. we're going to look at the roadways where traffic flows very smoothly. now it's a holiday, a federal holiday, so a lot less of a commute right now. but eastbound 24 things were very slow. word is that they have all traffic stopped temporarily. as you're traveling eastbound toward the caldecott tunnel, you can get off the freeway at wilder, which is the exit just prior to the crash. but that will take you to some surface streets, and it's a windy roadway. you may want to just stick it out. i think they should clear that in the next few. we'll continue to track that, but your commute direction coming in toward the bay bridge is clear. the skies above the bay bridge, though, they're making things a little damp. so be careful out there. back to you. good advice. thanks, mike. it is 510 right now. on this veterans day, we shine the spotlight on successfully transitioning away from the military service. ahead, the

5:34 am
the intersection here. one arguably 20ft away from the intersection, the other looking definitely like it's not within 20ft of that unmarked intersection. now, some of these spaces are painted red, some are not. the law is designed to improve pedestrian visibility, specifically at busy intersections like the one that we are at where a parked car may make it more difficult to see a small child or an elderly adult. now, san francisco, as many of us know, has limited parking. this will cut down on that even more. sfmta estimates that about 5% of the city's 275,000 parking spaces on the street will be impacted. drivers will start getting warnings for violations, as i mentioned. penalties will begin next year. now, in neighborhoods close to stores, restaurants and other commercial areas like the one that we are in, the loss of parking could make it difficult for convenient spaces, though those rules do not affect outdoor dining areas. i know that is another concern,

there's some slowing around the treasure island tunnel. reports of a crash there. again, can't tell you if it's in the tunnel or if it's just before, but judging by that slowing, there may be some activity just before folks get into the tunnel near the off ramp. but we're watching a little bit of a build. again, this is a holiday is a lighter volume of traffic around the bay. we have eastbound 24 with a crash still on the grid, but traffic is flowing seemingly smoothly past wilder and toward the caldecott. there's a crash around mare island, but traffic is still going westbound in your commute direction. typical bit of slowing early in the commute, but it hasn't gotten any worse over the last 20 minutes. that's a smooth drive for highway four and an easy flow, but watch those conditions. as we talked about throughout the area. a nice drive out of the altamont pass with just a minor break, taps barely any slowing there, again indicating the lighter traffic flow. south bay doesn't show that first burst just yet, and i don't think we're going to see it really this morning. the second one might kick in, of course, at 640. remember downtown at noon? we have that veterans day parade. i've posted information to the parade site on my social media. you can get information about parking

downtown as well. keep that in mind. and look, there's barely any slowing coming out of san martin, indicating lighter traffic. back to you. thank you. mike. 541 for you, this morning, sharing her emotions for the first time since the pair's olympic games coming up this morning, jordan chiles in an exclusive interview and her feelings on being stripped of the bronze medal and president elect trump starts naming some names, including the person who will be in charge of the huge roundup of people living in america. plus, we offer a way for service members to video record themselves reading stories to the family members that they have left behind. helping military families through deployment one book at a time. unique event for veterans. bringing joy to local school children as well. you're watcnghi

live. look outside in walnut creek, where it may be sprinkling, but we are going to stay cloudy and the heavier rain making it to the east bay. at this point at about 9:00 and getting heavier at 10:00. we're still going to see some lingering showers around noon, but clearing up this evening. early morning rain for parts of the north bay already coming down. so we'll be tracking this for all of our microclimates coming up. yeah. stick with kari for the timeline because look over here. palo alto has been untouched by this rain. smooth drive, easy light traffic flow as we expect this federal holiday. but over here in

oakland, again, lighter traffic, but the rain. definitely having an impact on the pavement. there may be some slicker roadways, so be prepared just because you can drive faster doesn't mean you should. 5:45. right now, the washington post reports president elect donald trump and russian president vladimir putin has spoken by phone. scott mcgrew with us this morning here. and, scott. under normal circumstances, this would be just a routine phone call. yeah, it happens all the time. a call between two leaders, right? one leader calling to congratulate another leader. except in this case, the kremlin is denying this happened at all. the post reports the two did talk and that trump warned putin not to escalate the war in ukraine. this, the post says, is, according to several people familiar with the call. nbc is working on matching that, reporting the escalation could come any time the general in charge of ukrainian forces says the russians and north koreans have massed 50,000 soldiers preparing for a strike. that

5:48 am
illegally. now, border czar is not an official title. it's not exactly clear what title homan would hold. it's a media created term for people placed in charge of something like the border or war on drugs. trump kept claiming kamala harris was biden's border czar. she never was. we also learned over the weekend that former trump officials nikki haley and mike pompeo will not be invited to serve in a new administration. trump making that announcement on social media. haley, you remember, ran against trump for the republican nomination for president and criticized trump for mocking members of the u.s. military, including her own husband. we can't have someone who sits there and mocks our men and women who are trying to protect america. it's a pattern. it's a pattern of chaos. it's a pattern of irresponsibility. it's a pattern of just saying things that are that are not helpful in strengthening americ. nbc reports the justice department will pivot to concentrate on prosecuting the most serious offenders of the

for them to have that deployed or away service. member available on demand. any time somebody in the family is missing them, missing that connection, they can just pull up those videos and see them and hear their voice. what a treat to hear their voice. well, not only that, but to honor veterans day. this week, more than 100 california schools will get their own story time with a service member. for more information on either program, head to united through reading.org. love it. all right. and if you're looking for a way to honor veterans, today, san jose will host its 106th annual veterans day parade. it is considered the largest veterans day parade in northern california. this is video from previous parade and today's pre ceremony starts at 11 a.m. over at the plaza de cesar chavez. the parade through downtown begins one hour later. all right. it's a nice celebration. they have there. maybe bring your umbrella, though. absolutely. and we are going to see some off and on showers. not a really big downpour enough to keep you from going, but we are going to have to watch out for
5:54 am
that wet weather. and it does start at about 11:00 and then starts to lighten up. hopefully it will clear as the parade goes on. at 1:00 we are going to see a mix of sun and clouds, but it will be chilly out there as this cold front comes in and will continue to sweep across the bay area going into later this morning. we're already seeing that rain approaching 680 right now in the east bay from danville all the way down to past dublin and sunol. we are also seeing some light to moderate rain over the santa cruz mountains and moving closer to los gatos. as we go through our hour by hour forecast. the north bay seeing some of the rain moving through by 830 to 9:00, and then it continues to move into san francisco. parts of the east bay and approaching san jose at 11:00. and then by early in the afternoon, we're seeing it clearing in the north bay, but it will still be raining in the east bay to the peninsula, and then eventually clearing out later this evening. and then by tonight, the temperatures will be dropping as
5:55 am
that cold front moves in. as far as how much rain we could see, it could be a pretty good soaking here with about a half inch of rain possible from oakland to mill valley. and then for san francisco, about 3/10 of an inch of rainfall and a quarter inch for much of the rest of the east bay, as well as the south bay. so for morgan hill timing, it out for you, it's 48 degrees right now. it will be mostly cloudy. the rain starts at 10:00 and gets heavier by noon and continuing into the early afternoon, with our high only up to about 62 degrees. so a lot of these numbers well below what's normal for this time of year. it's going to be a cool start to the weekend. even though it's dry tomorrow. it's only slightly warmer in santa rosa. we're looking at a high tomorrow afternoon of 66 and 64 in oakland, going through the rest of the forecast. more rain coming our way. so tuesday is dry, but the next system arrives on wednesday and may bring in some lingering showers on thursday as well as friday, the weekend we do get a break from
5:56 am
the wet weather, but there will be more coming next week, possibly a more significant storm system moving in next monday. so we're starting out our week and our veterans day with some light showers getting heavier by late morning clearing out this evening. tuesday is looking good and it will be a touch warmer on wednesday. that's as more rain will be moving in during the afternoon. mike, how are the conditions at the golden gate bridge? kari even though you showed that weather moving over in towards 680, we're showing still slicker conditions because the rain has fallen on the golden gate bridge. you see that water kicking up, but that means less traction there. those tires are doing their work. we see some rain at richmond bridge and some slowing highway 37. this crash is counter commute heading away from mare island toward vallejo, but still, we're watching these smaller crashes around the bay. i did just hear about one on highway 13 around park. sounds like a solo spin out again. watch those slick roadways, but traffic volume is light around the bay, keeping these sensors green. back to you. thanks, mike. well, happening now. police in fairfield cracking
