arms transfers to israel even though a humanitarian situation remains dire in gaza. let's bring in matt for the latest. morning, matt. >> reporter: huckabee's intended nomination comes at a critical moment for the region. negotiations between israel and hamas have come to a standstill after qatar suspended its efforts as mediator between the two. the former arkansas governor is a staunch supporter of israel. also a longtime ally of the president-elect. the announcement has been celebrated by top israeli officials overnight and it's not hard to see why. huckabee has views on the conflict that are known. in 2016, during his own presidential run, he rejected the concept of a, quote, occupied west bank. he said, referring to the area as judea and samaria, these are ancient terms used by the israeli right-wing. israel's foreign minister wrote on x that huckabee is a, quote,

long-standing friend of israel. trump, during his first term, formally recognized jerusalem as the capital of israel and moved to the u.s. embassy from tel aviv to the city. in his upcoming second term trump has promised to stop the conflict and bring peace to the region. this all comes as the humanitarian situation in gaza continues to spiral. yesterday actually marked a deadline set by the u.s. for israel to meet a number of requirements all aimed at boosting aid into gaza. the state department said it will not be changing his policy on arms transfers to israel at this time, claiming that the israelis have taken a number of steps. according to the british red cross, however, gaza is currently only receiving around 6% of the daily humanitarian aid that it needs. that's about 30 trucks a day, down from 500, before the start of the conflict last year. francis? >> matt, thank you. new this morning, a former massachusetts national guard member will spend 16 years

behind bars for sharing military secrets online. a federal judge sentenced jack for illegally collecting and leaking highly classified military documents about the war in ukraine on discord. the 22-year-old pleaded guilty to six federal charges. the faa is banning flights for the next 30 days in and out of the haitian capital after three u.s. planes were met with gunfire in tour de france. american airlines, now the third airline to report their plane was shot after departing the city. no injuries were reported. a spirit flight had to do favor to the dominican republic after multiple bullet struck the plane and injured the flight attendant. and a jet blue flight also found gunfire damage on the exterior after arriving safely in new york. u.s. embassy saying it is, quote, aware of gang led efforts to block travel to and from port-au-prince, which may include armed violence and disruptions to roads, ports and

the airport. two people are dead after an explosion injured several others in louisville, kentucky. the blast happened at a food coloring factory prompting a shelter in place order for nearby residents. nbc has the latest details. >> reporter: a commercial plant in louisville, kentucky tore apart after a massive explosion. >> there's a large explosion that occurred. we have smoke showing. >> reporter: the blast, seen from the sky camera walks away, happened just after 3:00 p.m. >> i live about a mile away from here and i was just inside my house and heard a huge room and the whole house shook. the power went off for a couple of seconds. >> reporter: at least 11 people rushed to the hospital, two in critical condition. >> we were able to get them out and rescue them. as well as 50 . others and evacuation. >> reporter: the explosion blowing out windows. residents within a mile of the building temporarily ordered to shelter in place as louisville emergency services initially

called it a hazardous materials incident. multiple patients are in decontamination. >> we started air monitoring and daily. it's ongoing. rest assured, nothing at this point has ever shown any type of chemical in the air in this entire region. >> reporter: a prior explosion at the same plant kelly worker in 2003, according to a federal government report. the investigation concludes the incident was preventable. officials praising the emergency action plan that they say helps first responders on the ground. >> just another show of heroism today in louisville. >> reporter: nbc news. kansas city area homes belonging to chiefs quarterback patrick mahomes and tight end travis kelsey were broken into just hours apart last month according to police reports. officers were dispatched to the home in missouri just after midnight october 6th. the report does not say whether anything was taken. the next day police responded to the other homework a police report indicated $20,000 in cash was stolen. it's not clear whether
