taps robert f kennedy jr to serve as the secretary of health and human services. we're live in dc with reaction from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. plus an rv crackdown. the all new measures san jose is now taking aiming to reduce environmental and safety hazards. also, the season of giving. we're kicking off our nourishing neighbors campaign this weekend. kris sanchez joining us live this morning with more on how you can help local families make it in the bay. this is today in the bay. and a good friday morning to you. thanks so much for allowing us to be a part of your morning. i'm marcus washington. and i'm laura garcia. let's start out with a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. a very cold morning out there, and we are seeing the rain clearing out, so we're going to take a break from any spotty activity that we've seen over the past couple of days as the rain chances stay mostly off the coast and we're getting some light sierra snow
5:02 am
as we take a look at the north bay. the temperatures this morning start out in the mid 30s in calistoga, upper 30s for nap. it's 37 in danville and 35 it rose peak. we are seeing some of those very chilly temperatures settling in. and as we go throughout the day, it will be a touch cooler than it was yesterday with the high of 60 in san jose, 62 in concord, as well as 62 in napa. and it will be a very chilly weekend for the bay. so we'll talk more about that coming up. mike, you're saying too slow for the cone zone? yeah, you got to remember that because right now we still have folks who are working outside here. golden gate bridge crew looks like they're getting those cones picked up heading up for the morning commute. there will be some slowing on the span while this work goes on. you see those little slower sensor reads there? same thing for up here. highway 37. the overnight work may have traffic control remaining just just east of sears point. so do watch that over on approaching 121. that should be cleared up in the next few minutes. the rest of the bay
5:03 am
a light volume of traffic back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, on capitol hill, there's mixed reactions to president elect donald trump's cabinet selections. embattled u.s. house representative matt gaetz has resigned from congress. this follows him being selected for u.s. attorney general in trump's administration. and it comes amid a halted house ethics investigation into gaetz. meantime, one time presidential candidate robert f kennedy jr is trump's pick for the secretary of health and human services. today in the bay brie jackson live for us in washington this morning and brie on capitol hill. of course, weighing whether both men really can serve in the senate. actually, the confirmation process is what people are thinking about right now, right? right. that's good. good morning. marcus. that's right. so there's a lot to unravel. let's start with matt gaetz. sources tell nbc news that he has been calling senate republicans, asking them about his chances to be confirmed. and this comes as president elect trump unveiled another cabinet
5:04 am
pick that is facing a lot of backlash. you welcome the president of the united states, president elect trump, announcing more picks for his administration, choosing north dakota governor doug burgum to head the department of interior. we're going to do things with energy and with land interior that is going to be incredible. trump also selecting robert f kennedy jr to be his next secretary of health and human services. if you like health and if you like people that live a long time, it's the most important position. rfk jr. bobby. while the 70 year old has been a vocal critic of covid vaccines and childhood immunizations, he told nbc news last week that he would not block any vaccines. are there specific vaccines that you would seek to take off the market? oh, i'm not going to i'm not going to take away anybody's vaccines. and i've never been anti vaccine. some lawmakers are skeptical. i'd like to see more of his opinions, more of his
5:05 am
more of his thoughts on different matters. but the anti-vaccine mantra scares me a lot. there are also concerns about the president elect's choice for attorney general matt gaetz. he resigned from congress this week, bringing an end to the house ethics committee's investigation into sexual misconduct, illicit drug use and other allegations. gaetz has denied any wrongdoing. amid growing calls for the ethics report to be released. well, my guess is at some point it gets out there. some senators want details from the ethics committee now to see if there is any damaging information. others say let the confirmation process play out and the full house ethics committee was expected to meet today to discuss, among other things, whether to release the report of a years long investigation into matt gaetz. but that meeting has been canceled. marcus. all right. brie jackson in washington for us this morning. brie. thank you. some local health leaders are raising major concerns about
5:06 am
trump appointing robert f kennedy jr to lead the health and human services department, as brie mentioned in her story. ucsf infectious disease specialist doctor peter chin-hong is among them. he cites rfk jr. s extensive criticism of vaccines, including covid injections and child immunizations, which he fears may make it harder to bridge america's growing mistrust in vaccine messaging, not to mention the potential added health risks. secondly, by controlling the fda and the nih and specifically that oversees a lot of research that continues to go on. so if you're going to cut research on vaccines, for example, i'm very, very worried about the next pandemic. if we're going to see one. leaders in san francisco's gop, meantime, support this election. party chair john dennis says he's excited to see the old systems in washington be disrupted. new for you this morning, the city of san jose
5:07 am
taking an aggressive new step in cracking down on rv dwellers. just this week, the city launched a new pilot program to count and monitor the location of inhabited, inhibited oversize vehicles. it results are posted on a real time map. now, the city cites environmental and safety hazards for the latest crackdown, with the goal of using real time data to help identify areas that the highest concern and establishing towaway zones in the most impacted neighborhoods. leaders also say that the city is boosting its push to offer more safe parking sites to take those vehicles off city streets. new this morning, new life for an old fleet of caltrain cars. with the agency launching its new electric fleet, some of the older model cars and locomotives are starting a second act on social media. caltrain confirms 20 old double decker cars are now being donated to peru for metro service in and around the capital of lima. caltrain launched its new electric fleet

in september, so put to good use. there you go. stepping outside this morning. full moon is so beautiful and bright. yeah, it's so nice. but that's also what's bringing in those big tides and the king tides along the coastline. and this time of year, we do get a clear view. if the clouds aren't in the way. so as we take a live look outside in walnut creek, we can see that it is all clear and very chilly with our temperatures this morning. starting out in the low to mid 40s. we may cool down another couple of degrees before sunrise, but it will be sunny all throughout the day as our temperatures head for the upper 50s at noon and then up to about 60 in san jose. all of these numbers are well below what's normal, even for this time of year, so we're going to only make it up to 62 in oakland, 61 in walnut creek, and some upper 50s for daly city and half moon bay in san francisco, 58 degrees for ingleside district and the outer sunset in the upper 50s and 61 in sonoma today. we'll
5:09 am
look ahead to the weekend. we'll talk about some more rain chances coming our way. that's coming up. mike has a look at some of the lower priced gas stations around the bay as we approach the weekend. we still have livermore leading the list. it's been there all week at the best price in the bay again. we'll call out the second best price in the state. 341 a gallon at dimond gas and mart on south front road. the next up is the north bay. your getaway there is a fill a getaway fill up. there is a low in solano county. fairfield got 369 at bond fair market. the one on walters road and in san jose. we've got the good deal of 381 at great gas on stevens creek boulevard. take a look at your prices in your are. gasbuddy.com onto the roadways. it's friday. lighter volume right now. early start. we're looking really good for those travel times and those speeds a smooth flow of traffic. but watch 680 northbound green sensors as you're heading past stoneridge here. but the northbound side may see some slowing as crews start to move from their overnight work. give you a look over here toward
5:10 am
fremont, 880 southbound, where you see these headlights right here, just a bit to the north around automall parkway. there's a vehicle on the shoulder. looks like there was an earlier crash, but no slowing past the scene. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. nbc, bay area and telemundo 48. partnering with safeway stores for our nourishing neighbors food drive just ahead on today in the bay. we're live from one local safeway with more on how you can help give back this holiday season in ai. stepping into the world of tourism, the new chatbot travel influencer one country is now launching. but first, let's check in with our investigative reporter candice nguyen. a half billion dollar project to modernize california's 911 system, resulting in reports of misrouted calls and delays. we speak with a project insider where he believes the state went wrong. watch that report right now on
5:13 am
where we try to help our local food banks fill up with little help from you at your safeway register. and today, in the bay's kris sanchez joining us live this morning over at fremont. and kris getting things kicked off this year. yes. and you heard the music a little bit earlier. it is such a festive time for us because we know that we are helping our viewers, help our neighbors, and we have
5:14 am
reggie young here from the alameda community food bank here. and this is a really busy time of year for you guys. it's absolutely a big time for us right now. about 1 in 4 people are struggling with some form of food insecurity here in alameda county. so it's a big challenge for us right now. we've actually been distributing about a million nutritious meals each week to try to meet that need. however, the challenge is that we're seeing a lot less resources, so it's critical for us to get the resources necessary to meet the needs for people throughout the holidays. and beyond. and i was talking with someone from another one of our community food banks, and they were saying that there are just fewer resources coming in right now. absolutely. so, right now, as of november, we are seeing about $1.8 million less than we saw last year at this time. and so it's a critical issue for us because we're seeing rising need. however, a lot less resources and for us food insecurity is an issue that should not exist. and so we have to make sure that our community steps up to be able to give the
5:15 am
food resources necessary in our community. and who are your clients? these are these are people who are working. these are people who are, you know, contributing, doing the best that they can to. i'd like to say food has no face, right. because the reality is that we're seeing families. we're seeing seniors. a lot of the people that we're serving are actually children as well. so there are a variety of people that are needing food. resources is varied. and in fact, it's probably your neighbor. okay. so i love that you guys do magic. you take a dollar and you multiply it more than i could. i buy one pack of pasta for a dollar, but you can buy so much more than that. yes. so every dollar leaves about two meals within our community. so we absolutely try to be very adequate with the resources that we have. and the great thing about partnerships like this with safeway is that they make it so easy for people to give, so we can magnify the number of dollars that we get in order to provide more meals in our community. so we like the psychological act of putting something in a barrel or in a basket. but really, the best thing is to give you the money so that you can multiple dollars go a long way for us in our
5:16 am
community. and in fact, with safeway, you know, while you're shopping over the course of the weekend, they make it so easy for us to give. so we love those types of partnerships. yes they do. every time i check out at the register, they're like, would you like to make a donation? of course i say yes. i try to say yes every single time. it's hard, right? but no, it's so it's so great that you all do this and it's unfortunate that there is such a great need, but if we pull together, i think we can make it happen. right? we absolutely will. and our community has shown that we step up when we need to. and this is absolutely a time every viewer, all of our community members, need to step up to ensure that everybody in our county is nourished. all right. so all you have to do is go up to the register at your local safeway. there are these little tear sheets and they just scan it right there for $10. you can do do the math for me, reggie. that's 20 meals, right? they take $1, turn it into two meals. so $10. and here's the best part. you don't even have to decide what that meal is going to be, which is the struggle of every parent, every single night. so it's a gift that you
5:17 am
give to yourself. all right. back to you guys. so that was a great event. it really is. yes. that's true. all right. and look, chris is working double duty. kris will be over at the rivermark safeway tomorrow morning along with me. yes, chris and i will be there, and we're taking part and talking more about our nourishing neighbors event. you can also see us there with today on today in the bastard. say tomorrow morning with kira klapper. and don't forget our nourishing neighbors food drive runs through christmas day. you can participate at your local safeway store. you can also go to nbcbayarea.com. that way you can learn more about where your donations are going. well, trending this morning a biopic and documentary about boys to men is now in the works. oh yes, to the end of the road. still, i can't let you go. so, according to variety, the group has partnered with compelling pictures and primary wave to develop the film. the documentary will focus on the
5:18 am
group's rise and impact throughout the 90s and early 2000, and how their success continues today. all three of the current members of that group will serve as executive producers. pretty cool. still an ensemble? yeah, i actually saw them a couple of years ago in san jose. still good. they didn't pull you up on stage. they wanted to. i was like, oh, you're like trying to enjoy it tonight. look, i already do too much. you always need it so hard when it gets pulled up on stage all the time. i said, i've come to the end of the road for you before. all right. end of the road of the week. here. yes. looking forward to the weekend. it's going to be a nice but cool weekend. even though we are going to have cooler than normal temperatures. just bundle up. enjoy the sunshine in santa rosa. we're starting out with upper 30s this morning. yes, it is a very chilly start here and gets even colder over the next couple of mornings. and so as we go through our temperature trend by late morning, we're at 50 degrees at 10:00. at noon it's 57. and we are also going to see
5:19 am
those temperatures gradually warming up. but we're watching out for king tides coming back today. and it will continue through monday. so we have the low lying areas, the parts of the bay where we see those trails and the areas where we do typically see the flooding that comes up late morning between nine and noon. and then at the same time, we have this system that's winding down for the bay area, pushing to the south with the rain, and then we still have these high waves near the coastline. so we are also dealing with some dangerous waves, dangerous conditions out there until 11:00 tomorrow morning. so basically all day today and into tomorrow morning, there could be some waves breaking over 15ft in some spots, and we're seeing it at 16 foot waves right now off the coast of santa cruz. and also the risk of some rip currents. so be careful out there. and then our temperatures today on the cool side, we're only going to make it up to 62 in san
5:20 am
francisco, oakland as well as concord and in los gatos. we are going to see a high of 64 today into tomorrow. it's really not much warmer, even though it will be mostly sunny, but we do start to work our way towards some more comfortable afternoon temperatures on sunday, continuing into next week. so we are going to see a very quick moving cold front moving through on monday. it only brings some of us some rain and then the rain just kind of holds up just to our north. all throughout much of next week until friday. so we'll be watching the end of next week to see if this storm system can roll on through and bring us a decent shot of rain, but our rain chances over the next few days are very slight on late sunday into early monday, and then more clouds on tuesday. not expecting much rain there. and in san francisco, temperatures are also about the same near the coast and some of our areas where we are dealing with the king tides. and into the weekend we're going to see
5:21 am
some cool temperatures remain. and mike, you've been watching our friday light commute and it continues to be light except for one spot. there's some changes in the north bay. we do see a little slowing typically on a friday, even on a friday at this point around mare island. notice the slowing extends. there was overnight road work with one way traffic control closer to 121. so i think that's clearing as the volume is building. so watch for a little extra slowing. vallejo heading over toward novato. no other surprises through the area. there's a crash, but it's eastbound 580 coming through castro valley. we'll track for some slowing, but i didn't hear about any lanes blocked. we're looking at the tri-valley. the altamont pass, a lighter build coming out. but things are starting to build up through the area. and as we look at the travel times, we're showing you, vasco road coming out of contra costa county, heading down to 580. it's just 17 minutes. so it's one of your minimums for the day. you're at speed all the way down to 580, which again moves smoothly outside of the altamont. scott. well, mike, it's a very happy friday, but it looks like we're going to have our first losing week on wall

the bay. good friday morning to you. thanks for starting your day with us at 530 right now. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. let's get a look at that forecast for us today. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. stepping outside. it was cold. it's going to be even colder these next few days. we have a cold front actually moving through as we speak, but the rain is already clearing out, so we don't have to worry about that today. the chance of those spotty showers really decreasing over the next few hours. it's just going to be breezy and cool. mostly sunny today and we are going to continue to see those king tides for some of those low lying areas along the bay and the coast for the next several mornings, and then for the north bay. a freeze warning going up as we go into tomorrow. but we're very close this morning. we're in the mid to upper 30s for much of the north bay. it is 40 in fremont and 50 in san francisco. this chilly morning leads us into a cool day, but at least it will be nice and sunny for those outdoor activities. just be sure to layer up. mike

gives us a look at i-5 evy. yeah, this is over here. don't worry about these lights. they're just getting off the freeway. but look how loosely packed this is for dublin area. we're looking at five eight as well. starting back at the altamont pass. that's where there's anything but the speed limit. and it's light volume of traffic from the top of the screen. vasco also at speed. good stuff in your westbound commute. your eastbound opposite your commute coming through castro valley. there is still a crash right around eden canyon. so watch for that activity. i believe it's one of the middle lanes that presents the problem for folks who have to get around it. again, eastbound 580 just off of the castro valley, y slowing everything else around the bay is friday light. back to you. thank you very much, mike. it is 531 right now. this morning, the controversy over a trans athlete on the women's volleyball team at san jose state is heading to court today in the bay's bob redell joining us live on campus. okay, so, bob, the lawsuit, it's already been filed, right? correct. good morning to marcus and laura, a

you're out late, just take a little time and look up. you may see a few meteor streaking across the sky. we are going to see the peak of the leonid leonids meteor shower as we go between now and the next couple of weeks, and actually peaking here soon. and then we're going to wrap up the weekend with our 49ers. it's going to be nice out there on sunday. just cool weather with our high temperatures in the low 60s and partly cloudy skies out at levi's stadium. maybe you're going to sonoma valley this weekend. it's going to be 60 degrees today in the low 60s throughout the weekend. but look at those overnight lows in the upper 30s. so just as fast as it warms up, it cools down. keep the long sleeves, the sweaters and all the layers on this weekend. and if you do go to the beach, it's going to be sunny, but very cool. enjoy that time out there. you might have might have the beach mostly to yourself. and now mike, you have a crash in castro valley, i do, we don't have this to ourselves.

folks are gathering eastbound coming off the castro valley y and going opposite your main commute. it's grove way. that's a better assessment. it's just the other side of the freeway from crow canyon road. that's where the crash may have your left two lanes blocked. the right lanes are open now. traffic is building, though through the entire area. that portion of the east bay watch east 580 getting over to dublin out of castro valley. south bay shows a little typical slowing. friday shows northbound 101 right on schedule there. we'll talk about what's coming up over the weekend, starting tonight. in fact, we have another full weekend with restrictions between palo alto and san mateo on highway 101. they continue this weekend and next weekend, scheduled to finish up that center divide area for the express lane. so prepare for that little delays through that portion all weekend, and a major delay if you typically use the rio vista bridge. this tonight, they're closing that bridge just like they have in the last couple of weekends over the last couple of months. it's a long workaround. instead of that bridge, you have to go around and along the delta. so do plan

our temperatures only make it briefly into the low 60s, mostly in the 50s throughout the afternoon and in a breeze, and it will probably feel a little bit cooler. so i'm tracking this and looking ahead to our weekend. more on that coming up in a few minutes. and coming up right now at the bay bridge toll plaza, we do see some folks pausing to get through the toll plaza here over off to the lanes on the right, the far right top of the screen. we see a little more traffic flow and a little more volume there. we'll track the build as it kicks in, even on friday. thanks so much, kari and mike. it is 543 right now. some in washington were already reeling from president elect trump's choice of matt gaetz as attorney general. and then there's a new announcement scott mcgrew trump would like to see robert f kennedy jr to run health and human services. right. so he would be in charge of the centers for disease control, the food and drug administration. rfk jr has claimed that vaccines cause autism. that is not true. he has suggested 5g telephones are a form of mind control that covid
5:45 am
was designed to spare jewish people, and questioned whether hiv causes aids. kennedy was at that big america first party at mar a lago last night. president elect called him out from the podium, warned kennedy, don't get too famous. there's only room for one guy at the top. and i just looked at the news reports. people like you, bobby, don't get too popular. bobby, you know you've reached about the level now. we want you to come up with things and ideas and what you've been talking about for a long time. and i think you're going to do some unbelievable things. nobody nobody's going to be able to do it like you. now, there have been a string of controversial picks. the top, of course, matt gaetz to be top cop, attorney general. more about gaetz in a minute. tulsi gabbard is top spivey, though her critics worry she's been influenced by russia. pete hegseth as defense secretary, now rfk jr to supervise the nation's health.
5:46 am
many in washington on both sides wondering will the senate confirm these candidates, especially gaetz, who is under investigation by the house ethics committee on accusations of improper relations with a minor, drug use and other issues that report was supposed to be issued today, but might not be because he resigned suddenly or is this some kind of strategy? nominate someone you know won't be confirmed so you can slip someone you really want into the job. here's former speaker and maybe gates's arch enemy, california's kevin mccarthy. the choices are very good, except one. look, gates won't get confirmed. everybody knows that. you say gates will not be confirmed. why bother with the nomination, then? well, you could talk to the president, but it's a good. it's a good it's a good deflection from others, but it also gives. i'll let it stand with that. elections have consequences. he chose matt gaetz matt will come before the committee and he will be asked
5:47 am
hard questions. and we'll see how he does. what do you make of the pick? i voted for a lot of people. i didn't like gates when he was a congressman, left, led the fight to block kevin mccarthy from becoming speaker, causing the republicans to call vote after vote. though gates had no alternatives to offer. and of course, mccarthy became speaker, at least for a while. less controversial picks trump has named his own defense lawyer as the next deputy attorney general, and north dakota governor doug burgum, who ran against him in the primaries as secretary of the interior, and elon musk, who is in charge of the so-called department of government efficiency, has put out a call for what he wants super high iq government revolutionaries to work 80 hours a week on cost cutting. marcus. all right. scott mcgrew for us now. thanks, scott. i'll take it from here. happening today, san francisco will celebrate its first official diwali celebration. mayor london breed will kick off the event tonight at the bhangra and beats night
5:48 am
market city hall will also be lit in pink and yellow to celebrate diwali. the night market will transform three blocks between battery and clay streets in a celebration featuring live music vendors and food. that event starts at 5:00. how does a trip to the 80s sound? complete with a visit to happy hollow? we're not talking about san jose zoo here, but an irreverent series now streaming on peacock that may even make you think a little funnier. things you guys heard about rhyne, right? yeah, well, him being missing for one day has gotten more attention than me being present. my entire life. so you're jealous of a missing person? the show is called hysteria. maybe you've heard about it. tells a satirical story about a teenager caught up in a satanic panic circa the mid 80s. horror movie veteran bruce campbell plays chief dandrige. he's investigating a high school quarterback's disappearance in the fictional town of happy hollow, michigan. our mike inouye recently asked him what
5:49 am
first intrigued him about the show. writing gets me these days, and that's what appealed to me because someone says, hey, bruce, it's a horror tv show. i'm like, yeah, whatever. and so the words got me. 80s, small town michigan. that's what. that's where you want to put a satanic panic. you don't want to put it in a big city. they'll never notice. we should probably also mention heavy metal music playing a pivotal role. you can binge hysteria now on peacock. the series is also airing on us. well, this morning we are kicking off our nourishing neighbors program thanks to the magic of bay area food banks, $1 donated can actually turn into two full meals. and we know there are a lot of hungry people out there, but it would never be possible without your help. today in the bay's kris sanchez is live this morning. she's at a fremont safeway, which is really helping us kick off the campaign in a fun way. and musical way.
5:50 am
oh, absolutely. can we get a little round of applause for the relax crew back there? they have really been setting the tone, and the student volunteers from saint edward school in newark. this is just part of the donation squad. the volunteer squad that helps make this nourishing neighbors campaign a success. we spread out through all of your local safeways where you can just pay right at the register to make a donation. we make it so easy. we have wendy gutshall here from safeway this morning and you know, this is this is a big undertaking for your store. i mean, we come in, we take over. why is it worth it for you guys? you know, it's really important to us to reduce food insecurities in the communities we serve. and our associates. look forward to this campaign every year. it's a great collaborative effort with bay area food banks to help nourish our neighbors this holiday season. now, you guys could just make a big corporate donation and be done with it. i mean, why why do all of this? well, this really helps put food on the table to those most in need. the need for food
5:51 am
assistance continues to grow, and this is a great way that we can give back as an organization to our local communities. well, we are thankful that you don't just write a check. you know, we know that there has been a lot of food insecurity. we've been talking with, you know, reggie from the alameda county community food bank about a million meals, a million people. right, right. the need is continues to grow. and last year we raised $4.3 million, which equated to 8.6 million meals. so for every dollar donated, our food bank partners can provide two meals. so $10 donation equals 20 meals. and you guys do make it really easy. you know, used to that we would put things in barrels and stuff like that. but now you just go up to the register. there's a little tear sheet. the cashier will scan it. and then you have now bought $10 worth of food, which is actually 20 meals in all. so there's no grabbing things off the shelves. and having to do that same way. right? you just look for the term sheet, the register, let your cashier know, and make that
5:52 am
$10 donation to support our six bay area food banks. excellent. so six. so six bay area food banks spread all around the bay area. so your safeways are everywhere participating. yeah, there's 167 locations across 11 counties. so you can donate at your local store now through december 25th. okay, so we will be at the safeway store in santa clara. marcus and i will be at the rivermark safeway. it's always nice to see people coming by. we have the volunteers coming in, pitching in, and one of my favorite things is that a lot of times we see the same families over and over again. you know, one year it's like, look, i lost my tooth. and then the next year they're volunteering as middle schoolers or high schoolers. so it's just a really fantastic program and a really easy way for you to help nourish our neighbors. our food banks are really feeling the pressure because there is such a great need, but there's also fewer dollars coming in from the private sector. so if we can maybe pinch a little pennies in our budget and pitch in, i think
5:53 am
it would be a great help. yeah, and the great thing about it too, is it's a $10 donation with that little card. but you can get more than that if you like and you can. so it's nice. some of our viewers are so generous and we're very appreciative. it's very nice. and like you say, they come out year after year. you see them like this, and now they're like, you remember me from two years ago. it's really sweet. i take a picture with this little girl every year. it's really, really nice. so thanks for being out there too. good stuff, i know. so and the thing about it is it's cold outside, but you go inside, it's kind of warm and you can donate. yeah. you don't have to worry about the temperatures. we're going to hold off the rain. we're seeing that clearing out as we speak. so it's going to be a nice and sunny weekend. take a look at all the rain that's off the coast and a little bit of some light sierra snow coming down. but i wanted to also show you the drought conditions that are happening across much of the country right now. and we are seeing the drought expanding all across, not only the west, but the east as well as they've been dealing with those wildfires on
5:54 am
the east coast. but here, a little bit closer to home, we're abnormally dry. these yellow shadings indicate that we are not yet in a drought, but approaching that as we go deeper into our rainy season and not seeing a lot of big storms. and then we're seeing some of the more extreme drought from arizona expanding into southern california. so we'll be watching that as we go into the weekend. once again, we're expecting it to be dry, so it will still be very dry out there for at least the next week. and then looking at our temperatures, actually cooler than normal, we're heading down to 60 or headed up to 60 degrees for a high today and looking at some upper 50s low 60s for much of the east bay as well as the coast in daly city, 59 degrees in san francisco, upper 50s here as well 62 downtown and for the north bay 62 in napa. what you'll notice will be the cold overnight temperatures in santa rosa tomorrow morning. as you
5:55 am
wake up, it will be 1 degrees above freezing. clear lake may get below freezing tomorrow and we're still going to see a lot of 30s here for the east bay, as well as even into the south bay. sunday is not much warmer in the morning. we're still in the upper 30s and low 40s, and when we get these cold nights, we start to see the fall colors really starting to peak. if you have warmer nights, there's more of a dull color in those fall leaves, but those colder nights enhance the color, so this may be a good weekend to head out and take pictures with those bright fall colors that are starting to really pop around the bay. as far as rain, there will be a quick shot of showers moving through on sunday, and it doesn't look like a whole lot for most of us. the rain hold off for most of next week, except for the north bay, and then we may see that rain sweeping through the rest of the bay area next friday. so it looks like until then, we're not going to see a significant chance of rain here and our temperatures starting out cold
5:56 am
in the upper 30s. low 40s headed up to about 60 degrees and about the same in san francisco over the next few days. mike, it's friday light, but there's still a wait somewhere. yeah, bay bridge would be the prime candidate. and there you go. the last ten minutes has seen these middle lanes flood out toward the edge lanes. so there you go. a pattern typical for a friday at the bay bridge. overall, alameda county is looking pretty good as you approach. no major problems. little bits of brake tapping along the area. through richmond, there was a roadside fire, but no effect on the freeway and in fact no effect on houses either. highway 37 standard build there and standard slowing for highway four just kicking into concord out of pittsburgh and bay point, as we do look over here toward the east bay. we still have eastbound 580. a lot of slowing. two lanes are still blocked at grove way, an overnight crash, minor injuries reported. but this is unexpectedly slow. back to you. thanks, mike. well, happening now. as expected, california's coastal commission is approving the plan to build a massive seawall along san
