5:00 am
and flooding wreaking havoc. we've got your updated timeline for the atmospheric river parked
5:01 am
over the north bay, and the weekend outlook for the rest of the bay area. let it snow. the sierra is getting hit with an early taste of winter as the rain moves east from the bay area. we're tracking conditions there and the latest ski resort openings in time for the weekend. it's just setting in that wow, there actually really are staying forever. also, a life changing moment for 19 children in the south bay. one family shows us the huge rewards from national adoption day. this is today in the bay. good friday morning to you. 5:00 right now. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. you know, it's been a stormy couple of days, especially in the north bay. want to get a check with how conditions are shaping up for us this morning? meteorologist kari hall has a look at that. we're seeing a wide range in our microclimates and the kind of weather that we're experiencing right now. we
5:02 am
are seeing temperatures a little bit milder to start in the low 60s. walnut creek, now at 62 degrees 61 and raining in san francisco. but this very powerful storm continues to bring all of this heavy rain across the region. and eventually it's going to start to push farther to the south as some cold air swings down and kind of kicks it into gear, and we'll see much more of the bay area experiencing the wet weather that the north bay is seeing for now, a couple of days, and it's still coming down as our storm ranger tracks all of the pockets of heavier rain now moving through marin county, southern sonoma county, and up toward northern napa county into solano county. so we are seeing some of the lighter showers in san francisco over toward parts of the east bay and down the peninsula. but once again, the trend for today will be for parts of the tri-valley as well as the south bay, to finally see some more measurable rain. but it will be raining throughout the afternoon and most likely into the evening as well. so i'll track this and we'll talk
5:03 am
about what's ahead as you make weekend plans. that's coming up in the full microclimate forecast. all right kerry, thank you. well, in the north bay it continues to get pummeled by the atmospheric river with a lot more rain on tap. and we possibly haven't seen the worst. a woman in her mother's suv became stuck in a ditch in rohnert park. they actually got out. they were able to call 911. a tow truck helped them get back onto the road and crews say that some of the waterways in the north bay could reach minor flood stage today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is in the north bay tracking that damage for us. she'll have more for us coming up in the next 30 minutes. meantime, in the east bay, people are preparing for more rain. we have video of a sandbag station in martinez last night. one of several right now open through the east bay in oakland. public works crews are doing their part. they spent hours inspecting sewer pipes for any issues when the runoff rolls in, but there's an even bigger concern for some people who live in the oakland hills impacted by the recent kelter fire. we spoke to one woman whose home is being
5:04 am
repaired. as a result, she's put a tarp over her roof to keep the rain from coming in. there's just so much to mitigate around mold and, you know, just so many more problems. she says she's also keeping a close eye on possible landslides, causing further damage to her home. all weekend long, you can keep track of the rain with our nbc bay area app. be sure to download it to see when the storm will be moving into your neighborhood. just scan the qr code on your screen to get your local weather your way from the people you know. turning now to mike inouye, who's tracking that morning commute? yeah, i'm using that app. but also i'm over next to cinthia and kari. so i have a little advantage. and also we have live cameras showing you that richmond bridge, we have the active rain, falling wet roadways out here. let's show you the road weather index. you will see it travel around the highlighted green and then you'll see more blue. actually, as we move north of here, there's novato and san rafael. slick conditions going to continue this morning and throughout the day. morning and evening commutes likely impacted
5:05 am
south as kari is talking about. but to the north, we've had this all day yesterday as well. so lots of minor flooding throughout the area. watch those surface streets again. if you come across standing water, don't go through it because you don't know how deep it is anywhere south of the golden gate bridge. things are very calm right now. a lighter volume of traffic. so we'll track this. just a little bit of slowing out of the altamont pass. barely any tapping back to you. thank you. mike. well, this morning we are moving the bay area forward on national adoption day, which is officially celebrated tomorrow. but today in santa clara county, ten families will grow as they become 19 children into their homes. welcome those 19 children the home forever. what a beautiful story. today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us with a powerful story of a family adopting a son and a daughter. well, so today, these two little children will be formally adopted into the only family that they have known for the last three years. it was three years ago that leilani and gabriel were taken from their birth parents, after gabriel, at just four weeks, was admitted to the hospital, bleeding in eight
5:06 am
different places in his tiny brain. injuries that were deemed non-accidental. as social workers looked to place gabriel, they called on their cousin sandra gardner, and today she and her husband will become their forever family. you kind of have mixed emotions. it's unfortunate for the parents, but it's also an exciting moment, you know, for us, because we have grown to love them and have had them for three years. so we are excited that they will be a part of our family forever. gabriel and leilani are getting a mom and a dad and three siblings, two of whom are grown with children of their own. so they're actually auntie leilani and uncle gabriel already. sandra says starting over with little kids is a lot, but she would encourage anyone with space in their homes and their hearts to consider it. i think it's well worth it to provide that safe space for these children in the transition, whether they're going to be reunited or whether they end up
5:07 am
needing forever homes and long term homes. they need that safe space, that safe space, that safe landing, and in an area where they can grow. so this adoption event in santa clara county is part of the 25th annual national adoption day celebration, where courts open up their doors this saturday before thanksgiving to create these families. in 25 years, 85,000 children have been adopted out of foster care into permanent homes. it is estimated that there are 108,000 children awaiting their forever families. santa clara county's adoption event is at 8:00 this morning, so i'm going to skip out because i want to see this in person. what a sweet family. i want to go with you. and it was great. it really i could, i should, i probably can, but what a beautiful story it is. thank you. okay, well, turning back to our storm coverage now, here's a live look at palisades tahoe, which becomes one of the latest ski resorts to open later today, along with sugar bowl and boreal. for people who've
5:08 am
already made it to tahoe, there's now several skiing options to choose from. skiers and snowboarders were absolutely stoked for northstar northstar north star to open yesterday. one day earlier than originally planned thanks to this week's snow. visitors say the season is getting off to a great start. i was at heavenly yesterday for the opening day and then stayed in south lake and then now i'm here. i've actually never gotten a chance to do opening day yet, so i'm improving as a skier. so to be out here is a big deal. on opening day. and of course, with all the awesome snow that we have, good for you. lucky if you plan to drive to the cierra today or tomorrow, make sure to bring your snow chains, especially if you're going by way of interstate 80 or highway 50. you better time it right though too. yeah, and right now we still have warm temperatures. so what we're seeing in a lot of spots coming down is rain. you may have a little bit of a window to go, and it hasn't yet reached the cierra, but there will be a new winter storm warning going up as we go into
5:09 am
this afternoon. and it continues into saturday evening, and we're still looking at another 2 to 6in of snow below 7000ft, and there will be about 1 to 2ft of snow above 7000ft. now, one other factor here are the high winds, gusty winds topping 55mph. some of those ridges have already had those wind gusts up to 125mph. so that creates some very dangerous conditions. and you want to make sure you're planning ahead. as of right now, looking at palisades, it is fairly quiet. we are expecting it to come down as rain for most of the day and then transition to snow as temperatures drop later tonight and into early tomorrow. as that winter storm warning continues overall across the sierra, we're going to see this weekend about 17in of snow for south lake tahoe. kingvale one of the higher snowfall totals on the map here. 32in of snow expected, which is a great start to the ski season. we'll
5:10 am
just have to see how those conditions are for the skiers hitting the slopes. and mike, now you have a crash you're tracking in san jose. it just popped up on the grid and it looks like there are no injuries. and it may quickly get off to the shoulder. may be there now. no slowing. north 87 passing taylor. that is the scene of the crash. but again, we're looking at a smooth flow of the south bay and right now the roadways are pretty smooth and no real wet roadways coming in in the next few hours. as kari is talking about, we'll see that come down and we'll watch those sensors change. that will be a factor. also note in the south bay, i did hear about someone going through the area with what looks suspiciously like a law enforcement vehicle, but then it turned out not to be. so make sure if you're not sure about who's pulling you over, you can call that in to chp. they will help you out and they'll confirm. so do operate safely. folks out here. the roadways are moving nicely, but we do see the wet roadways registering over here through the east bay and diablo range, as well as through the north bay. lots of smaller spots for standing water. so do be careful out there. the golden gate

we are under a microclimate weather alert in san jose. we are still dry, but finally we're going to get some rain today. our temperatures start out with low 60s, and at 8:00 we may start to see some spotty sprinkles, but it will be steady throughout the day and continuing into this evening, we'll talk about how much we're expecting here and across the rest of the bay area. coming up.
5:15 am
and from downtown san jose, we're going to now go and look at downtown san francisco. the bay bridge is what i'm focused on in the middle. and the glowing lights. a lot of moisture in the air. definitely changes coming in the north bay has been hammered yesterday. continuing through today. we'll watch the effect of the slick roadways. we'll talk about what's popping up on these maps as we speak. well good morning and very happy friday to you. may squeak by with a win for the week on wall street. bitcoin continues to rise. look at this. almost near $100,000 a coin. mostly on hopes the incoming trump administration will ease rules around crypto coins. treasury yields are falling. that's good news. the big climate conference in azerbaijan comes to an end today. in fact, considering azerbaijan is 12 hours ahead of us, it's all but over and it was perhaps not as effective as the climate conference we needed it to be. they're still debating how much rich countries should give to poor countries to help fund their clean power and other

most. we'll talk about that as well. all right. all right. look forward to it. yeah. all right. well, let's talk about something else. a lot of people have been talking about this holiday. so you're thinking about gifts and everything. maybe you can be cozy and elegant. well, today's show lifestyle contributor is betting her brand on it. that's right. you may know jill martin from her steals and deals segment, or perhaps from her breast cancer journey, which she shared with today show viewers. while she was fighting and then recovering, she launched her own line of items that she describes as cozy, elegance. and how's this for validation? her two foot animal buddies were just named to the list of oprah's favorite things. we asked jill for her best advice for someone looking to start or grow their own business. i think always in life, and i felt this out of my breast cancer journey, going like narrow and tight and giving 100% to one thing and then branching out from there will always win. aside, like doing
5:19 am
100 things at once. it all. jill focused on just four items, including hoodies and lounges. and while she was convalescing and couldn't be out and about, she actually spent her time securing licensing agreements with the nba. so you can be cozy and golden, like the warriors. you can see more of these items on jill martin, dot com. good for her. yeah. wow. she has a good platform on the today show to promote it a little bit. all right. let's talk about a platform. the one about whether we've been talking about it a lot. yeah. this has been pretty wild. a crazy storm that's been blasting the north bay. and let's talk about some of the rainfall that we've measured in northern sonoma county. over 19in of rain fell in two days in calistoga. it was over 13in of rainfall. and windsor had 12in and a quarter. and point reyes over 8.5in. and mount tam measuring seven inches of
5:20 am
rainfall. and what we are seeing and what we're experiencing with climate change in these warmer temperatures. well, atmospheric rivers basically recharge our water supplies, but can also cause flooding and other hazards. when we do get too much all at one time. but it can also bring more rain faster as it definitely moves through a warmer atmosphere that could cause a 50% more runoff and flood risks. as we deal with these atmospheric rivers in a warming climate. well, we're tracking it with our storm ranger mobile doppler radar and today the storm will cover much more of the bay area, and scattered showers continue throughout the weekend, but there will be some breaks. and for the cierra, we talked about that winter storm warning as we are now seeing some warm temperatures. but now cold air is going to kick this storm farther south and we're going to start to see this system changing and where it's been affecting parts of the bay. it's going to continue to push farther to the south. as we take
5:21 am
a look at what storm rangers picking up on still the rain in the north bay, but we are getting a wave that's approaching the coast for the peninsula and moving also into parts of the east bay. so off and on rain that will begin to make a move over the next few hours is what we're showing on our hour by hour outlook. at 8:00 we are going to see much more of the rain moving through the east bay into the tri-valley, and then eventually making it into the south bay before noon and then we're also seeing the north bay starting to catch a break later this evening. in terms of the heaviest rainfall, while it's shifting farther south of san francisco and into the south bay, all the way up through tonight. and then it does show there is a brief break before the rain returns to the north bay, and then clears out for tomorrow afternoon. so there's going to be weather changing minute by minute, but additional rainfall that we could see throughout the weekend could be another 1 to 2in for the north bay and up to another two inches for san francisco and san jose. finally, measuring, some rain could see over an inch of
5:22 am
rainfall. there will be a brief break with a new storm system moving in early next week, but it does look like it's clearing out just in time for you to travel and hit the road for thanksgiving. we are looking at some cooler air, but finally it's going to be dry. and mike, you're seeing the chp report now relatively calm. yeah, it's friday morning. it's early, but we have that rain coming in so it will be a lighter commute but tougher conditions. use caution folks right now. scattered incidents all on the shoulders. no major injuries over here. we're showing the north bay and the east bay with that road weather index showing green just at the very top of the screen. 121 at eighth. that's in schellville. there's some flooding reported. so do use caution out there showing you the live camera in san rafael southbound heading down toward the golden gate bridge. you see how sloppy it is even without the active rain going right now. back to you. yeah, maybe people can work from home. thanks, mike. i'm leaving. no, i'm just kidding. hey, hey. coming up next on today in the bay, nbc bay area response. two different viewers are fighting for $500 refunds. one case is up in the

nbc bay area viewer and one east bay. telemundo 48 fan. let's start with crispin in richmond. he contacted telemundo 48. respond. consumer investigator arlen fernandez. crispin says he paid a car dealer 500 bucks to
5:26 am
fix his truck. well, the manufacturer then issued a recall for the same problem. crispin asked the dealer to refund his 500 bucks, but no. so arlans team stepped in and crispin got his 500 bucks back. okay, now let's go on to kendall in penngrove up in the north bay nbc bay area team was happy to take kendall's complaint. she had bought a $1,016 round trip ticket to fly her daughter home from college on the east coast. well, the airline canceled the flight home, but kept the flight back. well, kendall expected a 50% refund since her daughter could only use one of the two flights. but no. kendall says they only offered 100 bucks for a $1,000 ticket, so she asked us for help. the airline then refunded her $585, and that's a little more than half. hey, side note new federal rules require the airlines to refund you when they cancel your flight, and you

5:31 am
bay area. meteorologist kari hall has this update for us. yes. so we're starting out with this morning. still, the north bay getting inundated with all of that heavy rainfall, while the rest of the bay area is still awaiting any wet weather as we take a wide view of this atmospheric river. still affecting all of the pacific northwest down to marin county. and then that's where we've seen a lot of the activity stopping. it's been fairly light for san francisco, but we'll be picking up as we go throughout the day. and our storm ranger, the same tool that you have on the nbc bay area app, is giving us the best view of all of the rain that continues with some pockets of heavy rain affecting 101 coming through san rafael, as well as santa rosa and moving over toward fairfield. but we are also getting a steady downpour happening in pacifica. while it has been lightning up for san mateo, so as we take a look at san rafael this morning, it is 57 degrees. temperatures hold steady, but we are going to see that rain continue their at least for the next several
5:32 am
hours. but what will be different today? the rain moving into danville, livermore, fremont, san jose, those areas that have really not picked up on much on the in the rainfall for the past couple of days. it will be with us throughout most of today, so i'll be tracking that. we'll talk about more changes in our weekend forecast coming up. all right kerry, thank you. i want to go now to the north bay. this is where some of those neighborhoods have seen nearly one foot of rain over the past two days. and as kari was just saying, look, there's more to come today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live in santa rosa this morning. and ginger, the city i understand now under a flood advisory. that's right. good morning, marcus and laura. and i just want to add to that, even in the time that we have been standing here, it seemed like the rain let up for a little bit. and now it's starting to come down once again. the city is still under a flood advisory until 4:00 this afternoon, and the entire north bay under a flood advisory until 3.15 tomorrow morning. i want to give you a look at an area that was
5:33 am
flooded yesterday. we are by the hampton inn and suites here in santa rosa. that parking lot was flooded. now it seems like the water has subsided there. flooded roads are much of a concern for drivers here in santa rosa. police say avoid unnecessary travel and follow lieu road closures because the water can quickly. those levels can quickly rise once again. now here are some road closures in santa rosa as of midnight. you can see some of those on your screen. they include san fernando at occidental, piner, west of fulton and o'hare court at dunton. now there are also areas that continue to experience some flooding, and you can see that as well, including brookwood and bennett valley. now, police warn conditions may change through saturday. water may recede, but be weary as levels can quickly rise with a heavy downpour once again. now police are heeding these warnings, or else you may run into something like what this woman experienced in rohnert park yesterday. their suv was stuck. the people in the
5:34 am
car got out. they called 911 and a tow truck eventually was able to get that car back on the road. crews are also keeping track of rivers and streams. there's a stream here in santa rosa, close to sutter medical center that overflowed into the parking lot, and about 150 people in the hospital eventually got out. okay, but parts of the north bay do continue to get drenched this morning. santa rosa easily surpassing those rain forecasts with ten, in some cases 11in of rain in just two days. so when it enters that action in that monitor stage, that that particular river or that stream gets some extra special attention. let's talk about school closures here in sonoma county. we have seen this list grow in past days. it now includes forestville, union north press, northwest prep charter school, olivet, west sonoma county union high school district, and cinnabar
5:35 am
elementary, which had a burst pipe. now those add to a list of schools that were closed earlier in the week. fort ross, guerneville, horicon, kasha, montgomery, and monte rio. sonoma county emergency crews have at times left submerged cars on the roads. we saw that a little bit when we were on river road yesterday here in santa rosa. there was a car that was in in standing water that actually they actually left the water there to serve as a warning to other drivers to say, don't drive into standing water. we'll continue to be out here for you guys and bring you more in the next hour. for now, we're live in santa rosa, ginger conejero saab. today in the bay. a lot to deal with there. all right, ginger, thank you. well, several bay area counties are providing sandbags for people in need. we've posted a list of locations on our website. just head to nbcbayarea.com. the link is right up on our trending bar. and don't forget, you can take

5:37 am
alas is working with san mateo county, california life sciences and several companies to provide vision and blood pressure screenings, dental and vaccine clinics and other health services to farmworkers and essential workers for free. we asked if they fear some farmworkers might stay away because of the changing political climate. the program director for alas says they've earned the community's trust. we have a very close relationship with our community and have built that trust over a long time, and we're been really focusing on our outreach to be able to explain to our community that this event is for them, that this event is for their health, and, you know, it's only going to benefit themselves. and you know, their families. the farmworker health and community event is tomorrow. it's from ten in the morning to three in the afternoon at the i.d.s hall in downtown half moon for bay more information, head to alice dreams.com/events. now to a live
5:38 am
look over right now at san jose mineta international airport. well, today marks one of the peak days for holiday travel over the next ten days. other peak days are going to include next tuesday and wednesday and sunday after thanksgiving. and of course, all three bay area airports will be extremely busy through the end of november. oakland airport expects about 350,000 passengers during the entire travel period. sfo, expecting about 160,000 passengers through today alone. and due to the weather, of course, we are seeing those delays both at sjc and sfo this morning. meteorologist kari hall, of course, monitoring all of this. hopefully the weather conditions will cooperate so folks can get in and out quickly. yeah, we know that san jose is usually the best bet for the bay area in terms of having to avoid any of those delays due to weather, but it looks like as of right now, everything is on track. even looking out east with the storm system that they've been seeing, we're not reporting any delays, and we're also not seeing any here close
5:39 am
to home if you will be catching a flight. but of course, you do want to make sure that you are checking and calling ahead. now this is a look at our national map and some of the temperatures that you may encounter as you're traveling outside of the bay area. we are seeing temperatures, the high temperatures in the 30s in minneapolis. and for chicago, 45 degrees. we're watching that snow yesterday during the football game, and we are seeing that snow now pushing off across the northeast. so cleveland and new york city is going to see that chance of some rain and snow for today. definitely cooler temperatures for a lot of the states off towards the east. while we're getting all of this rain, colder air will eventually push down into the bay area. if you're traveling farther north, you're going to continue to be in with that wet weather all the way up to the pacific northwest, as well as right here in the bay area in chant opens tonight, and we're going to see some rain. at times it may be quite heavy as our temperatures hold steady in the low 60s, and we also have the stanford cal game. it is

looking great for that. we're going to see a break in the rain activity, and our temperatures will be on the cool side with low 60s dropping back to the mid 50s, but at least we're not expecting all of this heavy rain that we're seeing right now to continue. we're looking at those wet roads in san rafael. and mike, you're updating that crash in san jose? yeah, we had one on highway 87 northbound approaching taylor. there was quite a bit of slowing and i saw some flashing lights. someone who passed by the scene sent me a very quick video, just giving me an idea of what was going on there. the right lanes look like they were blocked to traffic through downtown, so still minor slowing there. no major injuries, but it really damaged pickup truck in the area, so that might take a little while to clear. we are looking at northbound 101 with your typical little slowdown starting just about 5.40 right now. and we also have a disabled vehicle just north of there near the airport. but overall, a pretty calm drive. the weather hasn't yet reached the south to bay really significantly affect the drive over here, giving you a look ahead toward oakland arena. there is a concert tonight at 8
5:41 am
p.m. they have some crowds now. if it's raining during this period of the evening commute prior to the 8:00 conference concert, there may be an issue with folks who are unfamiliar with the area. finding those exits. so do use patience and just note that what's going on over there on the east bay right now in the east bay, though, we see the road weather index showing you where there's going to be wet pavement throughout the area. walnut creek over there in contra costa county, a smoother drive, still slow through richmond, and having touched the north bay and been there for quite some time, lots of reports of surface street flooding, at least some intersections and watch the edges of the roadway. do use caution when you see that as kari showed you through san rafael, there's active rain happening right now. back to you. thanks, mike. 540 for you this morning, one of the bay area's tightest races finally called. still ahead for you this morning. the next mayor elect for the city of berkeley. and then on to the next name. president elect trump chooses a second candidate for attorney general. and what's billed as the world's largest christmas

as we take a look at what to expect in mountain view today, we are going to be under this microclimate weather alert and the rain starting to move in around 8:00 and continuing throughout the day. at times it may be a bit heavy and going into the weekend we are seeing some breaks in the activity, so we'll help you make some weekend plans coming up and a live look at oakland over by the coliseum and by the bart station. the note for bart riders remember during wet weather like this, they slow those trains down just a tad. for safety's sake, make sure they have smooth braking. right now, the earlier issues we had will delay out of antioch is clearing up. thanks so much kari mike. 5:45 right now. well, the results took more than two weeks, but berkeley finally has a new mayor. adina ishii has been declared the winner by a

narrow margin over councilmember sophie hahn. hahn conceded defeat late wednesday. this will be ishii's first time holding an elected office. well, there's a new name for attorney general pam bondi and scott mcgrew. this comes after matt gaetz just withdrew his name. yeah, and very suddenly he caught all of us off guard. right. caught all of washington off guard. came just shortly after gaetz and vice president elect jd vance made the rounds of the senate office building at the capitol. they were lobbying republican senators for their yes vote in the upcoming confirmation hearings. gates said he had become such a distraction to the incoming trump administration, he decided to withdraw his name from attorney general. trump quickly put out a new name, pam bondi. she worked as defense attorney in trump's first impeachment trial, the one where he was accused of withholding weapons from ukraine. she's also a former attorney general for the state of florida, a longtime trump supporter. bondi will

likely face an easier time getting senate approval. gates. hegseth. kennedy mcmahon all face or faced various accusations of sexual misconduct. she does not. she was the first woman elected to the ag position in florida, spent her term fighting the opioid crisis, and fighting both human trafficking and the affordable care act. all right, well, what happens to gates? good question. he resigned his seat in congress after accepting trump's nomination for top cop. he didn't have to. but resigning the seat meant that the house ethics committee dropped its investigation into various alleged sex crimes and other accusations. you can't resign from congress under current rules, but were he to return, he'd risk allowing the report into those allegations to be released. okay, second question what about pete hegseth? does gates's departure embolden some republicans to oppose hegseth as defense secretary because of allegations into him? we will see. here's hegseth on the hill

yesterday. i'll keep this very simple. the matter was fully investigated, and i was completely cleared. and that's why i'm relieved. thank you very much. well, one clarification. he was not cleared. he was not charged. there's a subtle difference there. monterey police never gave a reason for dropping the case, nor are they required to. well, as laura points out, a decision 2024 just keeps dragging on. there are still uncounted votes in california. in pennsylvania, they finally counted enough votes for the democratic candidate of the senate to concede to the republican. i just called dave mccormick to congratulate him on his election to represent pennsylvania in the united states senate as the first count of ballots is completed. pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last. and in a bit of normalcy in an otherwise abnormal time in washington, president biden welcomed the boston celtics to the white house on thursday. the celtics defeated the mavericks

in a five game victory back in june, making it a record 18th nba title for that team. president first lady are going to host a dinner tonight at the white house to thank their supporters. over the years, as part of, of course, marcus. their last months in the white house. all right. thanks, scott. well, how much is that doggie in the window? well, happening today, the san francisco spca and macy's union square unveiling their annual holiday windows. now this is going to feature the puppies and the kittens available for adoption this holiday season. shoppers. of course, you will be able to see through the window until the end of the year. the unveiling of that event will be at noon at the macy's in union square. so cute. well, happening tonight, the world's largest christmas maze returns to the bay area, and you can expect an all new theme this year as you make your way through the holiday lights today in the bay's bob redell. joining us live from over at paypal park in san jose. this is with a look at enchant
5:50 am
christmas. bob, you got the best assignment of the day. i have to say i, i agree and i can't believe enchant christmas back for the third year and this is the first time i've seen it. when i drove up to paypal park this morning, i was kind of like, wow, this is billed as the world's largest christmas light maze. tiffany hirahara marino is with the event. hey, good morning to you. happy thanksgiving. merry christmas. how many lights. i think that's the question everyone's asking. well i think if we had a number, there wouldn't be quite enough. but i would have to say over 4 million to estimate. well, let's take a walk. we're only seeing a portion of this is ten acres of lights. it's a christmas maze. we're going to go over it this way. and the idea is you bring your kids here and it takes, what, about 30 minutes to get through all this? i would say 30 or 45, depending on how often you stop. and if you would like to have a drink and a bite to eat, you can do that here in the maze as well. and what's the theme? the theme is called reindeer games, so it's all
5:51 am
about finding the missing forest animals and the reindeers bells that are magical and santa needs those in order to fly the sleigh to save christmas. i love it. and then, of course, you get to the centerpiece here and we're looking at this christmas tree. it's 100ft tall. and you said it took some time to design, is that correct? yes. i would say on average about 18 months. there's a lot of work and thought and creativity that goes into creating our sculptures, and this tree is no exception. it is a gorgeous pine, and it takes about 50 to 100 people to set this up, along with the other larger than life sculptures that we here have. and enchant. i'm not technical. i know you're not technical. i do do christmas lights at home, and i know how frustrating it is when one light goes out and the whole strand goes out. do you get a sense, though, from your technical people about how difficult it is to put this on and not have that one bulb go out or, you know, have some sort of shortage? well, of course, from time to time we have some lights off, but those get fixed very quickly and it takes so
5:52 am
many folks here, so many electricians that we have on staff to put this together. and it is truly a labor of love. and i noticed these are led lights. i still have incandescents at home, and you can feel the heat from an incandescent. i think what makes this nice is you can do a lot more with the led, with the led technology, and i will say it's definitely a big wow factor when you come in here. what what kind of response do you get from families moms and dads when they bring their kids here? oh, they're in complete awe. it is such a magical place, a winter wonderland with so many lights and so many activities here. it's not just the maze, but we also have ice skating. we have visits with santa, story time with mrs. claus. so it is just truly a one of a kind experience. tiffany, thank you very much. i know the mayor is going to be here tonight to kick off enchant christmas. it runs through december 29th. we've put this up on your screen and the website is you're not going to believe this. enchant christmas.com. who came up with that? i got that right. right.
5:53 am
you got that right i did okay here in san jose. bob redell back to you. hey bob, are you going to ask to. yeah. is it a rain or shine? gosh. get out of my head, marcus. it is. it is rain or shine. yes, yes, it is. rain or shine. and i, i mean, i'm looking around. everything looks pretty protected from the water, right? okay. so you're not going to have, like, a shor, but you want to see what happens when you pull out this bulb right here. yeah. let me go for it. let's see. they're never going to let you back in. no, you could do it once. you got to do it once. and then don't trip on your one big cord. remember that year bob went to enchant? oh, yeah. the last time. yes. thank you so much, bob. that looks really, really beautiful. yeah, i've been there before. it was just so nice, you know, ice skating and taking pictures. it's really about the pictures. so if you get the whole family together, you can take some amazing pictures out there. and i don't know how to look in the rain because we've had a lot of it. let's get a look at some of
5:54 am
the totals that we had in the north bay in northern sonoma county and bernardo, we had over 19in of rain just in two days. calistoga has had nearly 13.5in of rainfall. windsor coming in at over 12in, point reyes over eight inches of rainfall and in san rafael over 6.5in of rainfall. now, looking at some of those higher totals as well, across much of the north bay, we're anywhere from santa rosa, 10in to 18in in occidental. and for napa over 4.5in of rainfall. while san francisco had three quarters of an inch of rainfall. san jose nothing yet, but all of this rainfall has caused the flash flood watches. a flash flood warning for the russian river at guerneville, as well as in hopland. and so we're seeing all of this causing flooding. the water just running off and the storm system still pounding the region. as we are looking at all of the rain coming in, it
5:55 am
will begin to eventually work its way farther south. but it's still over some of the same areas that we've seen from the past couple of days as we track it with storm ranger. it's a light to moderate steady rainfall coming down, and once again, it's falling on the ground that's already saturated with rising water into san francisco. we're seeing that rain moving into pacifica that continues, and eventually it will work its way towards san mateo and then into the late morning hours. there will be some pockets of heavier rain coming in this with a cold front that's going to kind of kick the system into gear and push it farther to the south. so pretty much all day long we're going to see that rain coming down and eventually tapering off around midnight for much of the bay area, and then coming right back in for the north bay early tomorrow morning. but that will be the last wave of rain coming through. and it looks like it will be clearing out for tomorrow afternoon. so our additional expected rainfall is anywhere from two inches in san francisco to close to an inch and a half for san jose, and
5:56 am
about an inch and a quarter for the areas farther to the north. our 7-day forecast shows some clearing this weekend, but then we will see a new storm system moving in on monday and continuing through wednesday. mike, how are those conditions at the bay bridge toll plaza? we're tracking them. we do. you can almost see that moisture in the air right here, the glowing lights. and look at the trees. lots of wind. so the conditions are still ripe for the rain to come in. we have damp pavement. the volume is relatively light. we're looking at the road weather index, the green highlighting where there will be some slick pavement. watch for that to keep moving down. but there's a lighter volume for this friday night. suddenly, in the last few minutes i've seen a number of disabled vehicles reported in the south bay. i'll check on each one of those and let you know if there are any major problems. don't see any major slowing, though. back to you. all right. thanks so much, mike. well, happening now. five pro-palestinian protesters who shut down the golden gate bridge are expected in court later this morning. this is for a preliminary hearing. you may remember they brought traffic to a standstill. this was back in april while protesting the war

right now at six, the north bay, battered by heavy downpours and it's triggering extended flood advisories. we're tracking the weekend outlook for this atmospheric river. with the rain comes snow in the sierra. ski resorts already benefiting the latest on conditions there and more resorts opening just in time for the weekend. it's just setting in that wow, there actually really are staying forever. also a life changing moment for 19 children in the south bay. one family shows us a huge rewards from national adoption day. t
