right now at six, the north bay, battered by heavy downpours and it's triggering extended flood advisories. we're tracking the weekend outlook for this atmospheric river. with the rain comes snow in the sierra. ski resorts already benefiting the latest on conditions there and more resorts opening just in time for the weekend. it's just setting in that wow, there actually really are staying forever. also a life changing moment for 19 children in the south bay. one family shows us a huge rewards from national adoption day. this is today in
6:01 am
the bay a. special day for a lot of families. right. we need some happy news to start our friday that we do. well, let's talk about that big story for us today. good morning. on this friday. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. yep. you can see the radar behind us. now everybody is talking about this storm that's just deciding to sit over the bay area. kari has been monitoring things, and it's been just sitting over the north bay, especially where we've seen the heavy rain. it continues this morning as we take a live look outside in san rafael. and it's also been raining off and on for san francisco. and we have our storm ranger mobile doppler radar parked on san bruno mountain. you can see the showers that are coming down as this is scanning around the bay area. so here's what to expect. that storm moving into much more of the bay area with times of showers. this weekend. there will be some breaks as well, and the cierra will have a winter storm warning in effect. as we are seeing this very powerful storm system and the center of the low here, we're seeing
6:02 am
another one developing right behind that. that's going to continue to strengthen and then basically kick everything into gear and push that into the areas farther south that haven't yet measured a lot of rain. so we'll talk about that timeline and how it may impact your weekend plans coming up. all right, kerry, thank you. well, the north bay getting pummeled by this atmospheric river and with more rain on tap, there are fears the worst is yet to come. the heavy downpours just last night led to more flooding, including one suv becoming stuck in rohnert park. now the tow truck later helped get it out back onto the road. today in the bay ginger conejero saab. she is in the north bay for us this morning. this is where the flood advisory is still in effect. she's going to have a live report for us coming up in the next half hour. and in the east bay, people are preparing for more rain. this is video of a sandbag station in martinez last night, one of several open right now throughout the east bay in oakland. public works crews are doing their part. they spent hours inspecting sewer pipes for any issues for when the runoff rolls in. but there's an even bigger concern for some people
6:03 am
who live in the oakland hills impacted by the recent kelter fire. we talked to one woman whose home is being repaired. as a result, she's put a tarp over her roof to keep the rain from coming in. there's just so much to mitigate around mold and, you know, just so many more problem. she says she's also keeping a close eye on possible landslides, causing further damage to her home. all weekend long, you can keep track of the rain with our nbc bay area app. make sure to download it to see when the storm will be moving into your neighborhood. just scan the qr code on your screen to get your local weather your way from the people you know and trust. turning now to mike inouye, he's tracking the morning commute. that's right. and that will be impacted by the rain, morning and evening commutes, as kerry has been talking about. right now, though relatively dry in the south bay, but north 87, we have this crash. a persistent issue here north at taylor blocking at least your right lane as you travel north and through downtown there slowing that shows up as the volume builds a
6:04 am
tad bit. so a little bit of early slowing for our first burst, but it only lasted about five minutes, indicating that lighter volume of traffic we expect for friday, especially a pre thanksgiving week holiday friday. we're looking over here toward the wetter roadways throughout the east bay, and look at all that road weather index. throughout the north bay. there is a crash 101 south getting onto eastbound 80 in san francisco. that's an alert. we'll talk about that. more coming up. back to you. thanks, mike. all right. well, you know, this morning we are moving you forward. this is on national adoption day, which is officially celebrated tomorrow. but today in santa clara county, ten families. they're going to grow as they welcome 19 children into their homes forever. i love this. been looking forward to this story today in the bay's kris sanchez joins us with a powerful story of one family adopting a son and a daughter. good morning to you, laura and marcus. so today, those two little children will be formally adopted into the only family they have known for the last three years. three years ago, leilani and gabriel were taken from their birth parents after
6:05 am
gabriel, at just four weeks, was admitted to the hospital, bleeding in eight different places in his brain. these are injuries that were deemed non-accidental, so social workers were trying to place gabriel and lani into a safe home. and that's when they called on their cousin, sandra gardner. today, she and her husband will become their forever family. you kind of have mixed emotions. it's unfortunate for the parents, but it's also an exciting moment, you know, for us, because we have grown to love them and have had them for three years. so we are excited that they will be a part of our family forever. gabriel and leilani are getting a mom and a dad and three siblings. two of them are grown with children of their own. so it's auntie leilani and uncle gabriel already. sandra says starting over with little kids is a lot, but she would encourage anyone with space in their homes and hearts to consider it. i think it's well worth it to provide that safe space for these children in the transition,
6:06 am
whether they're going to be reunited or whether they end up needing forever homes and long term homes. they need that safe space, that safe space, that safe landing, and in an area where they can grow. this is the 25th annual national adoption day celebration, where courts open their doors the saturday before thanksgiving to create these families. in 25 years, 85,000 children have been adopted out of foster care. it is estimated that there are 108,000 children in foster care awaiting a forever family. so santa clara county's adoption ceremony is coming up at 8:00 this morning, and i'm super excited to go. i'm going to check it out and maybe meet gabriel and i love that. that's great. that's beautiful. it just some stories just touch you, right? yeah, completely. you know, giving kids homes. it's such a wonderful thing. absolutely. okay. that's good. we'll bring you the story at 11. all right? and bring me some
6:07 am
kids, too. i know right. what's a few more? i know, all right. thank you chris. it is 606 right now. turning back to our storm coverage, here's a live look at palisades tahoe, which becomes one of the latest ski resorts to open later today, along with sugar bowl and boreal. for people who've already made it to tahoe, there's now several skiing options to choose from. skiers and snowboarders absolutely stoked for northstar to open yesterday. one day earlier than originally planned. thanks to this week's snow, visitors say the season is getting off to a great start. i was at heavenly yesterday for the opening day and then stayed in south lake and then now i'm here. i've actually never gotten a chance to do opening day yet, so i'm improving as a skier. so to be out here is a big deal on opening day. and of course, with all the awesome snow that we have, looks good. if you plan to drive to the cierra today or tomorrow, make sure you bring your chains, especially if you're going by way of interstate 80 or highway 50. no, meteorologist kari hall, of course, you've been working overdrive, keeping us up to
6:08 am
date. what's going on here? how are things looking in that area as of now, things are looking good. the roads are open. what we've seen has been coming down in the form of rain, as temperatures have been a little warm, but we are going to see a winter storm warning going up starting at 10 a.m. and mainly areas to the north of tahoe. but as we go throughout the day, your window of getting there without having to deal with some very hazardous travel conditions will be closing. so we are going to see some heavy snow coming down as those temperatures drop, and we're looking at about 1 to 2ft of snow above 7000ft. but the other factor are those high winds. we've already seen gusts over 55mph, but possibly some of those ridges could reach 125 mile per hour. wind gusts as of now, looks fairly calm as we take a look at palisades, with some rain coming down today. highs in the upper 40s. but then tonight, as temperatures drop, it will change over to snow and we'll see upper seconds. we're looking at this weekend the possibility of getting about 17in of snow for south lake
6:09 am
tahoe and tahoe city, up to 18in kirkwood, 29 in kingvale. looking at snow totals this weekend of 32in, that looks like a great start to the ski season. mike. if we're traveling around the bay area, have an alert for us. yeah, this is a little tough spot, but it's not as frequently used as as heavily used as other parts of the approaches toward the bay bridge. that's coming down 101 in through the city, venice, octavia getting over into the area and then transitioning on to eastbound 80. specifically, that connector is blocked right now by a crash that happened a little while ago. so chp called the alert because that connector is blocked. you can get on to city streets as brandon watched the area, and that should be okay for you to get through the city and back onto the lower deck of the bay bridge. getting over to the bay bridge westbound, we have a crash approaching the toll plaza. no major issue, and there's a little slowing that builds up for 37 580 across the richmond bridge. rest of the bay shows a smooth drive, but still 87 at taylor. another crash in the south bay. back to you. all

right. thanks, mike. hey, iphone user, you ready for a new and improved siri? yeah. okay. well, coming up on today in the bay, the first details on apple's expected update for its digital assistant. maybe she'll finally play the music i'm asking for. plus, the government says you need to ditch a certain kind of doorbell. let's go out to the futures as well. this morning. looks like it's going to be a mixed and slow open. and now let's check in with investigative reporter candice nguyen from our investigative unit. the state has suspended all deployment of its new 911 network. the result of our investigations uncovering serious safety concerns. it wasn't just one state. 911 official who was blindsided by our findings. it was the entire board. now, action is being taken in sacramento to figure out where they kept in the dark. watch that report right now on

ranger as we are under a microclimate weather alert. the rain continues in the north bay. that is starting to move down into san francisco and the peninsula, as well as parts of the east bay. the wind will also be an issue with a wind advisory in effect for the coastline. in the hills until 10 p.m. so i'm tracking all of the impacts of this atmospheric river. more details coming up. and we're looking at 580 right here. dublin. everything is fine in this particular traffic shot. but i do have a chain advisory

about this shift. worker sunday is happening on sunday before cyber between black friday and cyber monday. and here's what it is. on that sunday, when all of us are shopping and getting excited about holidays, it is the hourly workers. it is the shift workers that are helping us. they work in retail, they work in hospitality and we want on that shift worker sunday to celebrate them. sylvia, be on our next episode of press here this coming sunday. so a week from shift worker sunday. that's later 9 a.m. nbc bay area right after meet the press. we're also going to look into whatever happened to vr. you remember facebook changed their name to meta? yes. yeah. i mean, it's like getting a tattoo of a girlfriend who then breaks up with you, right? it's just embarrassing. no, no regrets. you're not going to show us later? he made me. i thought i would know he turned it into a flower. i do not have any

6:19 am
i've never been, but i've always been curious to check that out. me too. maybe we'll have to get dressed up. maybe we could get in themed. yes. outstanding. or we could dress like elphaba and glinda, and then everybody would be confused and really stand out. okay. a lot going on, that's for sure. at least that's inside, because, you know, we're looking for things to do that it's kind of getting out of the rain that we're seeing right now as we take a look at this beautiful view from san jose as the sun is coming up and we can see the sun shining under the clouds. at least we can see the sunrise here. and for other areas. we've seen the heavy rain coming down. let's go over some of these rainfall totals that we had in valadao. wow. northern sonoma county checking in over 19in of rainfall in two days. i mean, these numbers are pretty wild in calistoga. it's been over 13in of rainfall. windsor also in sonoma county, over 12in. point reyes had over eight inches of rainfall and san rafael nearing seven inches. but we've also seen these pretty
6:20 am
high rainfall totals all across the north bay. yountville over eight inches of rainfall. boulder creek in the santa cruz mountains, also three quarters of an inch of rainfall. san jose zero. but this is what we're seeing in a warming world with climate change. as we are seeing these atmospheric rivers also changing now, we know that our atmospheric rivers help recharge our water supply. it helps fill the reservoirs, but can also cause flooding and other hazards when we get too much all at one time. and it can also bring more rain happening faster. and that's definitely what we're seeing with this storm system. could see 50% more runoff from flood risk and all of this heavy rain coming so fast all at one time. we're seeing this storm system that's continuing to spin across the pacific northwest. but notice this other little feature behind that. that's another area of low pressure. and so these two are going to kind of spin around each other. this is going to become the
6:21 am
dominant low and really kick things into gear and push this system farther to the south. and much more of the bay area is going to start to see that wet weather starting later this morning. we're still right now focused on the north bay, with the heaviest rain that's coming down from storm ranger, but also looking at san francisco with the steady rain and more of this activity across the tri-valley, the south bay, as well as the peninsula, we could see another 1 to 2in of rainfall between now and the weekend. and then there's going to be a bit of a break in the activity for saturday into sunday, and then early next week, another quick moving system will be passing that could affect some holiday travel, so you'll want to keep checking in on those updates. but the good news is that it looks like it clears out just in time for thanksgiving. mike. and you mentioned a chatain advisory, but it's not for i-80. i know i'm showing i-80, but the cierra is okay for 80 and 50 right now. without change. that's going to change as the weather we see pushes over in toward the sierra. right now, the weather you see here, just some moisture, some damp

roadways and a bill. but the metering lights were activated. a half hour later than we usually see them. that's because of lighter traffic through the area. so we're watching these conditions with a mild build for 37. the chain advisory is for 580. i'm giving that as your approach. vasco. reports of a pile of chains in the roadway in the middle of the freeway. there may be a quick traffic break, but light traffic should make you all right as you're traveling through livermore and getting over here to the east bay and south bay. look at that. no slowing shows up right now. back to you. thanks so much, mike. well, next here on today in the bay nbc bay area response. two different viewers are fighting for $500 refunds. one case is up in the air and the other is struggling to get on the road. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura, nbc bay area responds and telemundo 48 respond next

we know for sure there are at least two viewers who are rolling into the weekend with some big smiles. and that's because consumer investigator chris karma and his team put some money back in their pockets. happy friday! those smiles are on the faces of one north bay. nbc bay area viewer and one east bay telemundo 48 fan. let's start with crispin in richmond. he contacted telemundo 48 day consumer investigator arlen fernandez. crispin says he paid a car dealer 500 bucks to fix his truck. well, the manufacturer then issued a recall for the same problem.
6:26 am
crispin asked the dealer to refund his 500 bucks, but no. so arlen's team stepped in and crispin got his 500 bucks back. okay, now let's go on to kendall in penngrove up in the north bay. nbc bay area team was happy to take kendall's complaint. she had bought a $1,016 round trip ticket to fly her daughter home from college on the east coast. well, the airline canceled the flight home, but kept the flight back. well, kendall expected a 50% refund since her daughter could only use one of the two flights. but no, kendall says they only offered 100 bucks for a $1,000 ticket, so she asked us for help. the airline then refunded her $585. and that's a little more than half. hey, side note new federal rules require the airlines to refund you when they cancel your flight, and you refuse whatever alternative they're offering, like 2 or 3 days later. if that doesn't happen or you're dealing with

6:31 am
laura garcia. and i'm marcus washington. we do have team coverage this morning on the microclimate alert. ginger conejero saab live for us in the north bay. but i want to start with meteorologist kari hall because she has been monitoring this atmospheric river. okay. so, kari. what are we looking at at this point? it's still over the north bay. that's where we've seen the biggest impact with this system creating all of that heavy rain. it's been blasting the north bay while in san jose we're like, i'm still waiting on some rainfall. so we are going to eventually see that coming in today as this system is still continuing to bring heavy rain across the north bay, but it will eventually start to push its way farther south. our storm ranger is on it. it is scanning the storm, and we've seen the heavy pockets of rain now moving through marin county and northern sonoma county. as we get a closer look, the rain is still pouring on that already saturated ground. after getting lots of rainfall over the past 24 hours, we're seeing some light rain for parts of the peninsula and the flood watches that have been in effect, now upgraded to a flood warning for
6:32 am
the russian river at guerneville. as we are seeing those water levels quickly rise. laura marcus. thanks so much, kari. well, now to the north bay, where some neighborhoods have seen more than a foot of rain over the past two days. and as kari was saying, there's more in store today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live for us in santa rosa. and ginger, i know the city now under a flood advisory. that's right. good morning, marcus and laura, the city of santa rosa. still getting some of that rain. as kari just mentioned, it's really still coming down in the north bay here. it does have a flash flood advisory that is in effect until 4:00. this afternoon. santa rosa, easily surpassing the forecast, getting ten in some cases, even 11in of rain in the past two days. there's also a flood advisory in the north bay that will stay in effect until 315 tomorrow morning. now, i want to show you an area here in santa rosa that was flooded yesterday, because flooding remains a concern for drivers here in the city. police are
6:33 am
saying avoid unnecessary travel and follow road closures. now this is a parking lot at hampton inn and suites and sutter medical center. you can see some of the ponding there in the lot, but it looks much different than it did yesterday when the whole parking lot was flooded. take a look at what it looked like yesterday. a stream nearby overflowed into the parking lot about 150 people in the hospital eventually got out. okay, but you can see there were a number of cars that were stuck in the flooded lot. the same problem. another suv got stuck in flooded waters over in rohnert park yesterday. fortunately, the people in the car got out. they called 911 and a tow truck was able to get that car back on the road. now, the latest update from santa rosa police at midnight lists a number of road closures here in santa rosa. they include san fernando at occidental, piner west of fulto, o'hare court at dutton. there are also some areas that are
6:34 am
still of concern for flooding, like brookwood and bennett valley, and some homes on francisco way. now they say that home on francisco way that's included on that list. we drove by it this morning. there are still signs indicating caution for flooding, but the water appeared to have receded a bit. police, however, warn that conditions may change through saturday and water may recede, but be weary because levels can quickly rise with a heavy downpour, so crews are keeping close. watch on streams that might overflow. so when it enters that action in that monitor stage, that that particular river or that stream gets some extra special attention. let's move over to some school closures. now in sonoma county, we've seen this list grow in past days. they now include forestville union, northwest prep charter school, olivet west, sonoma county union high school district, and cinnabar elementary, which had a burst pipe. now, those are added to the list of school closures. earlier in the week that
6:35 am
included fort ross, guerneville, horicon, keisha montgomery and monte rio. a few moments ago, guerneville unified was also added to that list. now, sonoma county emergency crews, they've actually left some cars that have been stuck in waters or submerged in some water. they've actually left them on the road to serve as a warning. we saw that yesterday over by river road when there was a car that got stuck in standing water. they hope that that is another reminder, another clear message sent to drivers to not to not try their chances on driving through a flooded waters. we're live in santa rosa, ginger conejero saab today in the bay. all good advice out there, ginger. thank you. and don't forget you can take the forecast on the go. just download our nbc bay area app. nbc bay area streams 24/7. it's free and available for all smart devices. 6.35 right now and disgraced former city council member omar torres from san jose is set to appear in court. this is a san jose court today for a plea

heading somewhere else. we are seeing those temperatures. these are the highs in the upper seconds for minneapolis. we are seeing some low 50s for atlanta, new york city today. the high will be 40. and we're getting some rain and snow coming down across the region and across the pacific northwest. it's definitely cooler than the bay area as that rain continues. this is what you'll see as you're traveling at least across northern california. and it is also going to be raining this evening as we open up and chant for some of those pictures this evening, you may need umbrellas and some rain gear. highs in the low 60s and does look like it's clearing in time for the big game tomorrow against stanford and cal, where we are going to see the highs in the low 60s and eventually in the mid 50s. but the rain taking a break. mike, you're seeing the changes now at the bay bridge. yeah, both in the conditions and in the volume of traffic. the backup finally filling in late here at the toll plaza. lighter volume of traffic but superior conditions now much more mist. drizzle the wind seen on the trees here. so that's
6:40 am
what's showing you at the toll plaza. slowing gentle down the east shore freeway and across that bridge from richmond to san rafael. highway 37 shows the build. no flooding reported there and some slowing for highway four. we have a concert over in oakland tonight, so keep that in mind. folks might have rain in the area and there may be some slowing as you approach those exits. the rest of the bay moves very smoothly right now. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. 639 right now. new life for a story that first captured headlines decades ago, the menendez brothers seeking their release from prison 35 years after they shot and killed their parents in southern california. coming up on today in the bay, the upcoming court hearings that may make or break their bid for freedom and try number two. donald trump has a second choice for his attorney general. we'll have all that. but first, another edition of our school shot and what's billed as the world's largest christmas light maze. enchant christmas back here in san jose. we'll take you here live coming up. and also

6:44 am
good friday morning. we are under a microclimate weather alert. a storm ranger continues to track this storm, still affecting mostly the north bay. download the nbc bay area app as we are going to see this rain moving into the tri-valley and dublin beginning around 9:00 and continuing throughout the day as temperatures hold steady. we'll get a look at what to expect as we make weekend plans coming up in a few minutes. as kerry says, most of the bay is ready for the rain. the north bay has had the rain, the south bay. we're looking at a crash, though. northbound 17. one crash involved a spinout and some cones scattered across the roadway. there may be a second. they're both on the northbound side, right around the santa cruz summit. we'll track the build throughout the east bay. coming up. eric and lyle menendez will make a virtual court appearance on monday. this is the first time much of the public could actually get a glimpse of the convicted
6:45 am
murderers in decades. the pair have spent 35 years in prison. this for killing their parents. they were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole back in 1996. monday's hearing is the first of several, as the pair pursue a legal path towards getting released. one of the court proceedings will focus on new evidence in that case, including a letter from erik menendez to his cousin alluding to sexual abuse. he claims he suffered at the hands of his father. ongoing la district attorney george gascon is pushing for the brothers to be resentenced. well, there's a new name for attorney general pam bondi. scott mcgrew joins us now. this comes after matt gaetz suddenly withdrew. yeah, just surprised everybody. rai caught all of washington off guard. it came just shortly after gaetz and vice president elect jd vance made the rounds of the senate office building at the capitol, lobbying republican senators for their yes vote in the upcoming confirmation
6:46 am
hearings. gaetz said he had become a distraction to the incoming trump administration, decided to withdraw his name for attorney general. trump quickly put forth a new name, pam bondi. she worked as a defense attorney in trump's first impeachment trial. that's the one where he was accused of withholding weapons from ukraine. she's also a former attorney general for the state of florida and a longtime trump supporter. bondi will likely face an easier time getting senate approval. gaetz hegseth, kennedy, mcmahon. all face or faced various accusations of sexual misconduct. she does not. bondi, the first woman elected to the ag position in florida, spent her time fighting the opioid crisis and fighting both human trafficking and the affordable care act. okay, so what happens to gates? this is a good question. he resigned his seat in congress after accepting trump's nomination for top cop. he didn't have to. but resigning the seat meant that the house ethics committee dropped its
6:47 am
investigation into various alleged sex crimes and other accusations. you can't un resign from congress under current rules, but were he to return, he'd risk allowing that report into those allegations to be released. second question what about pete hegseth? can we think that maybe gates's departure emboldens some republicans to oppose hegseth as defense secretary because of allegations into him? well, we'll see. here's hegseth on the hill yesterday. i think it's very simple. the matter was fully investigated and i was completely cleared. and that's why i'm a leader. thank you very much. now, one clarification. he wasn't cleared. he wasn't charged. there's a subtle difference there. monterey police never gave a reason for dropping the case, nor are they required to. well, believe it or not, decision 2024 continues to drag on. there are still uncounted votes in california and in pennsylvania. they finally counted enough votes for the democratic candidate for senate to concede to the
6:48 am
republican. i just called dave mccormick to congratulate him on his election to represent pennsylvania in the united states senate as the first count of ballots is completed. pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last. a bit of normalcy in an otherwise abnormal time in washington, president biden welcomed the boston celtics to the white house on thursday. the celtics defeated the dallas mavericks in a five game victory back in june, making it a record 18th nba title for that team. the president and first lady will host a dinner tonight at the white house to thank their supporters over the years. this of course, laura, as part of their last months in the white house. wrapping it up there. all right. thank you very much. wel, christmas right around the corner and happening tonight. the world's largest christmas light maze returns to the bay area, and you can expect an all new theme this year as you make your way through those holiday lights. yeah. today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from
6:49 am

6:50 am
borrow the reindeers bells, which are magical and they decided to not give them back. so it's up to you to come through the maze and find the missing forest animals with the bells and save christmas. and how long does it take for people to get through this maze? i mean, you could spend as much time as you want, but if you, you know, want to get the best experience, but not be here all day, i would say about a half an hour. about a half an hour. yeah. yeah. and we're at the centerpiece, 100 foot tall christmas tree. and we were just talking before we went on air. the sky just popped with this beautiful sunrise, and it's almost just like a great accent. you can still see the light. so this is just kind of a weird thing. we're thinking it's kind of like a i don't know, christmas gift to us, but you've got this as the centerpiece. what what kind of response do you get from people when they come to this? oh, people are just in awe of all the beautiful lights. i mean, how can you not be? it's this beautiful winter wonderland. and so much magic in
6:51 am
the air. it's just something everybody should come and experience. and you mentioned you do have themed nights, briefly free photos when you come here with your kids for this particular weekend. starting tonight through sunday, we've partnered with cashman photography and they'll set up these various areas throughout enchant where you can stand in line and get your photo taken, and then you can download that photo for free and use it for your christmas card. tiffany, thank you very much again, as you heard tiffany mentioning, this opens tonight, runs through december 29th. you can go to enchant christmas.com for more information here in san jose. bob redell back to you marcus. very very cool assignment this morning. bob. yeah. and you know, there was one light you missed. i saw it behind you. i was going to say you saw it too. i saw it too. i saw it, yeah. good eyes. very cool. you probably want a non-rainy night to go there. yeah, and it's going to be raining this evening, especially in the south bay, where we've been waiting on
6:52 am
all of the rainfall that's been falling over the north bay for the past two days. let's check in on those rainfall totals. this storm has been overperforming. we are seeing in parts of the coastal areas in the north bay occidental, checking in at over 18.5in of rainfall. that's even hard to imagine. lake sonoma had over 13in and sonoma county airport is nearing 12in of rainfall. yountville over eight inches of rainfall, and boulder creek in the santa cruz mountains, even getting some rain at about three quarters of an inch. while we are still waiting on at least a couple of drops in san jose. here's a live look at palisades tahoe. it's also a beautiful sunrise there, and as of now, we're seeing the activity taking a break. but we will see some rain coming down. if you are traveling to the sierra, make sure you take the tire chains with you because as temperatures drop, it's all going to change over to snow. and we're going to see that at least through early tomorrow. and we are looking at the possibility this weekend of
6:53 am
about 17 to 34in of snow as this storm system really starts to kick farther to the south. that's been affecting much of the north bay. but then we're also going to see storm ranger indicating that the rain is moving out of the north bay into much of the rest of the bay are. as we go into this afternoon, into the evening, and then moving over the south bay as we go toward this later tonight. but then a bit of a break for tomorrow into early sunday, and then rain comes back late sunday night with more scattered showers in the forecast for at least the start of next week. but temperatures will be much cooler. mike, you are tracking the commute along with the rain. yeah. so those conditions over here seen at the richmond side of the bridge to san rafael, still soupy here, active rain falling, a little farther south. we see much more moisture in the air, but not a lot of rainfall. still damp and some windy conditions and a lot more traffic over the last ten minutes. nothing dramatic. it's friday actually a pre-thanksgiving friday, so much lighter traffic flow there and we're watching that rain coming
6:54 am
down as the commute builds throughout the day. back to you. thank you very much, mike. well, happening now, five pro-palestinian protesters who shut down the golden gate bridge are expected in court later this morning for a preliminary hearing. you may recall they brought traffic to a standstill back in april while protesting the war in gaza during the hours-long standstill, commuters missed work, school flights and critical surgeries. a total of 26 demonstrators face charges last month, the judge denied a request to recuse district attorney brooke jenkins from the case over an alleged pro-israel bias. and we're back in just minutes with a look at our top stories this morning, including battering with the heavy downpour in the north bay. it's triggering extended flooding advisories, and we are tracking the weekend outlook for this atmospheric river stick around. much more ahead. you'reatching today in w t
